Swallowing, Maisie blinked before looking at the crowd for Avis' reassurance. This was not the way this was supposed to go: a single lone first year. Mylo had never mentioned how to defend yourself when you were the last one standing, except—what was that phrase they had used?—oh, yeah, run away.

Her eyes narrowed.

If there was one thing Maisie was not going to do, it was run away. She'd do the exact opposite of what Mylo would do. The three Hufflepuff girls were not as threatening as they thought they were, even as one of them started cheering as Tracey fell unconscious. It hadn't even been that girl's spell that had sundered her teammate. Her eyebrows raised as she watched the expression take hold in the girl's demeanor. "Oh, get over yourself," Maisie addressed Minnie with an eye roll.

Keeping her wand pointed straight ahead, Maisie returned Emily's nod while trying to take up Mylo's recommended dueling stance. Feet planted. Knees bent. Eyes alert.

For now, she'd keep up the good fight.

Costanza's lips twitched into something that might have been a smirk, but it didn't reach her eyes. At Maisie's jab, satisfaction flooded her bones, but the feeling was quickly replaced by discomfort.

Did Maisie really have to respond so rudely? The thought surprised Costanza as she relied on her own lack of manners to get through the school year. But surely, this wasn't the place for it. The Hufflepuffs were winning, and they deserved to savor the feeling. If the roles were reversed, Costanza was sure that there would have been elation from the Ravenclaws.

Though, the honey badger had never been in Maisie's situation before. In her last duel, she was with Minnie when they lost, not on her own. The realization that she was standing alone against a full team must have fried Maisie's brain, so Costanza decided she wouldn't put much stock into the bird's reaction.

"Ignore her," she assured Minnie, placing a hand on the badger's shoulder. The sentiment would have usually been followed up with a snide remark towards Maisie, but Costanza didn't want to add insult to injury. Oh lord, was she having mushy feelings now? The thought of that being true was alarming. To distract herself, she raised her wand, readying to strike.

When you’re the only one left in the game, it’d be best to brace yourself for a whole lot of pain unless you are confident enough to avoid at least one or two of those spells. With three people still on the Hufflepuff side, that’ll be three spells to look out for. A hard feat to achieve but not impossible if you’re lucky enough. If not, then just be sure you can keep standing to withstand them all. Still, even if Maisie managed to stay conscious this time, this was already a losing battle.

Won’t it be the best to just give up?

Raizel thought as she watched the spells fly. Emily sent out an Obscuro just as Costanza and Minnie unleashed their Flipendos and then Maisie casted Fumos. A cover to try and protect herself, her fighting spirit still burning bright despite the odds against her. Blindfolded and then pain probably coursing through her with those Flipendos still managing to hit her. She heard the impact and one of those was a lot more powerful than the other, enough to send he down to the ground. If she doesn't get up from that, she wouldn't blame her either. It was for the best for her to stay down and save herself from the pain.

In restless dreams, I walked alone.

The slits of the blindfold covered her fully this time, obscuring her vision. Then, two Flipendos lunged right at her chest, but one was stronger than the other. It was stronger than just about any spell she'd ever encountered—and with a thud it sent her straight to the ground, clutching her stomach.

Thankfully, Maisie had managed to get off one spell in the seconds before—one spell to give herself some time just as it had done in the forest, giving her and Avis time to escape the red caps in the Potions Championship. One spell to surprise them all. One spell to throw everyone in that darkness.

Emily winced as Maisie got sent back with not one but two Flipendos delivered by her teammates. The guilt gnawing at her didn't ease when she successfully blinded the birdie with her own spell. She felt like one of the Gryffindors that she had to take on in her last match although she couldn't say for sure if any of them felt this guilty about borderline bullying their lone opponent like this back then.

But as Maisie met the full force of the unified badgers, a thick smoke engulfed the piste. She had casted Fumos. Fair play to her.

Emily squinted. She had to be careful she didn't get tackled while she couldn't see two feet in front of her, let alone anyone else. At the same time, she had to be careful not to target her teammates.

She didn't want to have to take down Maisie in the circumstances they were all in. Ah well... The end of the line was coming soon. Once the fog would clear, no doubt the duel would reach its climax.

Things honestly couldn't have gone better for the badgers. Well, maybe if Maisie had failed at casting her smokescreen, then that would have been the ideal situation. But Costanza caught sight of the Ravenclaw knocked to the floor and blindfolded just before the dark smoke hid her vision. At her sides, she could barely make out the silhouettes of her teammates and she could see even less of Maisie.

12:30-13:30 on Sunday, 9th of February, 2025...

Maisie was… in bad… no, a horrifying situation if Raizel says so herself. Blinded, on the ground. An easy prey for the hunters which are the Hufflepuffs. When you thought the Badgers were all sunshines and rainbows, then you are wrong because these Hufflepuffs were out for blood… Maisie’s blood in this case. Their wands, all of them were aimed at the lone Raven who was trying to get back up on her feet. There were no other targets besides her so where else would they aim their attack on? The moderator? It could happen, accidentally. No, it could also be deliberately if one wanted to do so.

But sometimes, miracles happen like this one. One out of three Flipendos from the Hufflepuff side hit and the rest were history, vanishing into thin air once they hit nothing. Raizel’s eyes were on the remaining Ravenclaw duellist, thinking that it was over. It wasn’t. “Will you look at that?” Scenes like this truly catches the Gryffindor's attention mostly due to that unwavering never giving up vibe that people show when put in situations where everything is over. It just puts that grin on her face but at the same time, she does feel bad watching her take a beating. She needed to mentally remind herself this is a duel. She can’t help even if she wants, she can’t end it until a side gives up or is out of commission. Surely that doesn’t count as being biased because she’ll feel the same way when it was one of the Hufflepuffs that were put in situations like this.

In any case, the duel is not over but she is sure the next one will be the last. Whether Maisie remain standing or not, that’ll depend.
