Shark attack
It was a beautiful autumn day, and a wonderful time for drawing. Jake Morris liked to draw. He always had. He could barely remember a day where he hadn't done at least a little bit of it. He had a big imagination, and drawing was his way to take what was inside of his head and bring it to life on paper. It didn't matter whether it was wonderful things or scary ones, somehow even when Jake was afraid, drawing somehow seemed to calm him. When he had many thoughts running through his head, or when things were hard like now...alone and homesick at a new school...drawing was a relief and an escape from the things that plagued him when night came.September 7
Luckily, Hogwarts had a lot of things that were worth drawing. Sure there were a lot of things to be afraid of, but there were many wonders too. The outside of the castle was absolutely beautiful, the lake was humongous, and Jake had found himself a favorite tree that gave him a great view of all of it, with a great bit of shade to block out the bright sun. He had spent some late-afternoons there already, when he wasn't in class, just sitting under the tree with one of his schoolbooks or with his colored pencils and his sketchbook. Then, for once, Jake felt just a little bit at home.
Today he was trying his best to draw his surroundings, and it was for a very important reason. He wanted his parents to see exactly what Hogwarts looked like. Sure, he couldn't give it to them now...they were very, very far away and the day when he would see them again was painfully far away too. Drawing what he saw made it seem less far away though. When he had gone to camp he hadn't thought to draw them a perfect picture, and they'd just had to take his word for it. Now he was determined to do just that and illustrate all the amaing things that he'd told them. That meant that he had to capture it all perfectly, and so the boy concentrated, patiently and meticulously getting it all down to the last blade of grass.
He was in such concentration that he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, or whether or not there was anybody nearby. Jake had been frightened when he'd got to school that people were going to seek him out and pick on him. Jake was very small for his age, and that had always made him a target at the playground. So far, he'd gotten lucky, and nobody had paid him much mind. He hoped to keep it that way, but since he had never been approached under this tree before, it didn't occur to him that today might be different.
Unfortunately, Jake was wrong.

Shark attack
Kyle stepped off his broom and he let out a chuckle as he caught his breath and ran the back of his gloved hand across his forehead to wipe up some sweat and in the process pushed his shaggy hair out of his face. He had gotten up early to practice his beater game and after a couple hours of flying around, dodging and hitting bludgers he was sufficiently wore out and ready for a break. To make sure he was practicing the best he could Kyle was wearing his Quidditch robes and had his beater armor strapped on. It was a little cumbersome and not the most comfortable outfit he could have on but Kyle was determined to get so comfortable in this gear that it was like a second skin.
It took a couple minutes to wrangle the bludgers and get them locked away in the box once again, but once he had done that he took the box to the supply shed and tucked it away before he closed everything up and began to make his way off of the pitch. He was going to head to the Lake to relax, and to make sure nobody could see what he was about to do. Read. As much as Kyle disliked books he needed to read up on beater tactics, game strategies, and different teams and how they played through the year. Being a good athlete would only get him so far, he needed to be knowledgeable too.
When he finally got to the Lake and made his way towards the tree he usually sat under he saw someone else was there. When he saw they were drawing in a notebook kyle first thought this was the same hufflepuff he threw into the lake the previous year, but upon closer inspection he realized that not only was it not the girl from before but it had to have been someones little brother. how on earth did they sneak onto school grounds?
Kyle made his way up to the boy and crossed his arms and looked down at him. "Are you supposed to be here?"Kyle was tall for his age, filling out with muscle from his beater training and his Boxing training, his steel blue eyes had a sharpness to them and the deep scar on the left on his face from his cheekbone down to his jaw line all painted a pretty intimidating picture, even when he wasn't exactly trying to be.

The sun was strong today...and Jake knew that his picture wouldn't be complete without one. You couldn't look at the sun of course, but you didn't need to if you just wanted to draw it. Yes...the sun would make his picture complete. Jake put his golden pencil to the paper.
And then suddenly the sun was blocked out entirely.
The shadow on the page heralded this newcomer's arrival before Jake heard him speak. Jake raised his head slowly, laying eyes on the boy that was now staring down at him. This was a much bigger boy, clad in some sort of armor, making him an even more imposing figure in the sunlight. From the ground, he seemed giant. Jake felt his heart begin to beat more quickly. The hulking form, the line that crossed his face...all of it was frightening....but it was his eyes - piercing blue eyes that seemed to stare right into Jake's soul - that Jake couldn't stop looking at. Jake felt the strong urge to leave, whether he was allowed or he wasn't. He bit his lip.
"U-um...I...I dunno..." Jake mumbled. He wracked his brain trying to think of all the rules that he knew...Had he broken one without knowing it? Did he do something wrong...? Was he in trouble? "I-Is...I-Is this um...i-is this tree not allowed...?" he asked, looking up at it, and back at the boy who had arrived, feeling suddenly very small. He pulled his knees towards his chest.

Kyle cocked an eyebrow as he looked down at the younger boy. he was muttering and stammering and slowly curling up into a ball. He wasn't entirely sure if it was because the boy was upset that he had been caught or what. Then it began to slowly dawn on Kyle. This kid wasn't someones little brother were they? he was an actual student here. he was wearing the school robes...and what color was he sporting? Yellow. The kid was a hufflesnuff! oh man thats perfect, the hat sure did know how to sort them didnt it?
Kyle scoffed and let out a chuckle "Man you can get really compact when you shrink up like that. Wonder how far I could toss you?" he looked up and away for a moment as if doing some sort of math in his head "You would absolutely fit through one of the Quidditch goal posts. I think I could catch you before you hit the ground...maybe" he shrugged and turned his attention back to Jake and offered a cocky smile as he crouched down to get closer to his level and looked into the kids eyes "What do you say little badger. Want to help me practice my throwing arm? or do you want to be out from under the tree?"

Jake hadn't meant to do anything wrong, he had only been minding his own business...but he soon realized why the other boy was here. The chuckle brought back memories in a flash to the playground...He had met boys like this one before - and he knew what they might do to boys like Jake if he didn't listen. Only this time it was worse...because this time they were at Hogwarts. Jake's eyes drifted up to the Quidditch goal posts...the Quidditch goal posts that were high, high, high above the ground. He gulped.
Jake turned back to Kyle...but as he did, Kyle lowered himself down to Jake, a smile plastered on his face as their eyes met. His face was a shark's face...and Jake felt suddenly very small. He stared into the older boy's eyes, feeling himself beginning to tremble. "N-no...I...Th-that..." he stammered, unable to form a sentence. If the other boy saw he was scared it might get worse...but he couldn't help it. For a few moments he was frozen, unable to breathe.
He still didn't know what he'd done wrong...but it didn't matter. All that mattered was that whatever it was he set it right.
"S-sorry..." he mumbled. And finally the little Hufflepuff moved, scurrying out from under the comfortable tree and getting up, but not before bending over to smooth out the grass he'd been sitting on to make it as comfortable a seat as possible for the older boy, in case he wanted to sit down. Maybe that was why he was asking. He then backed up quickly. "Th-there..." the small boy said, motioning. "I moved...see?"
He had to get away fast...He squirmed where he stood, wanting to run, but afraid to. "Um...C-Can I go...?" he squeaked hopefully.

As Kyle looked into the boys eyes he not only saw fear, he not only noticed the fearful tremblings. he could almost swear he could smell...something wafting from the hufflepuff. Something that he had never smelt before but it had an interesting effect on him. it made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up, he could almost feel his blood begin to pump faster as something primal deep inside him grew excited. As the boy talked Kyle didn't hear a word of it, he just heard his own heart beating in his ears, watching with a deep intensity for sudden movements, almost wishing that his prey...prey? no, the other student. Hoping the other student would turn tail and run. After all, who doesn't love a good hunt?
Kyle swallowed hard as he realized the boy stopped talking and he rolled his neck, resisting the urge to just grab the kid drive him into the dirt. He couldn't do that...not without chasing him first. Kyle stood back to his full height and kept his eyes locked on the Hufflepuff's "No, you cant go. Not yet. This was your seat right? I'm the one intruding here. So here" he motioned for the boy to return to where his was sitting previously. "Or, you can turn and you can run. if you are fast enough you might get back inside before I change my mind about letting you run free. Whats it gonna be HuffleSnuff. clocks ticking"

Jake's eyes remained trapped in Kyle's, unable to look away or blink. The bigger boy motioned back towards the tree...the one he had just told Jake to move from. Jake didn't understand. He had told him to get up...but now he wanted him to sit back down? Why...? Something was wrong...Jake didn't know for sure if he was lying or WHY he was saying the things that he was saying but he knew that sometimes bullies told you something to do so they could do something awful to you when you did it.
But there was another choice. Run away. Run away before the big kid changed his mind about letting Jake go. His words on that were clear. Get out of here, and fast. If Jake didn't wanna get used for Quidditch practice, did he have another choice? "O-o-okay...." Jake stammered, still shaking with his drawing clutched to his chest. He nodded his head. He didn't know WHAT Kyle was going to do to him if he changed his mind, but he didn't want to wait for him to find out. He didn't react to being called 'HuffleSnuff'. Jake had been called a lot worse things than that before. He was more concerned that Kyle had said the clock was ticking and that meant Jake had to decide fast and any second he spent here was a second he had wasted on the clock, wasn't it?
"Th-th-thank you," the Hufflepuff mumbled, before turning and running as fast as his little legs could carry him towards the school, not needing to be told twice.

Kyle never took his eyes off the smaller boy as he stood before. The boy was shaking, holding his notebook tight to his chest and just reeking of fear and desperation. Kyle couldn't explain it but the longer he was around the terrified boy the more adrenaline pumped through his veins, Kyle was getting antsy and on edge but he was frozen in place as the rest of the world almost seemed to dull and his perspective zoomed in and he could almost swear he saw Jake more clearly. the folds in his cloths, the sweat on his brow, the light twitch of his jugular with each heartbeat. he had never been as focused on anything as he was right now.
It was at that moment that Jake made the biggest mistake of his life. He turned tail, and he ran. without thinking or processing it every fiber of Kyle's being commanded him to give chase and he obliged. Kyle tore off after Jake, his longer legs giving him an advantage. As Kyle got closer he could hear the panicked breaths as Jake had to have heard the bully getting closer and closer. Finally Kyle tense and threw himself forward in a diving tackle and crashed into Jake and drove him down into the Grass and dirt.
Kyle couldn't help let out an elated cheer and laugh at catching his prey. He grabbed the back of Jakes neck and kept one knee pressed against his lower back to keep him pinned to the ground. "Good try little Rabbit, but you gotta be quicker" he clicked his Tongue in a 'tsk tsk tsk' noise.

Shark attack
Jake ran, making a beeline for the relative safety of the school. There he could run all the way to Hufflepuff common room and dive into his bed...hide there where nobody but Hufflepuffs could find him.
But with a sickening feeling, Jake realized that his own footsteps weren't the only ones that he heard. He didn't look behind him - he couldn't! - but he heard it...he was being chased! Desperately, Jake ran faster, faster - as fast as he could - panting, but the footsteps got closer...closer...closer! Terror filled him. He had to run even FASTER.
Suddenly, something heavy collided with him and Jake dropped his notebook and was tackled face first onto the ground. The boy hit hard, tummy-first, the wind driving out of him. Before he could move an inch he felt a strong weight bearing down on his back.
Gasping for breath, the tiny boy squirmed wildly, but the heavy knee on his back pinned him down. He struggled, but it didn't even budge. He was trapped, and his back hurt. As he felt a hand upon his neck, the Hufflepuff whimpered, tears filling his eyes. Unable to help it, he heard himself cry out for his mum...but his mother was far away. There was nobody here but him and the bigger boy.
"Owww..." Jake whined. "You're hurting me...!" Struggling wasn't going to work, but it didn't matter because at the sound of the bully's voice he was far too frightened to struggle any longer. Jake's eyes squeezed shut as he went still under Kyle's knee, frozen except for his shaking. He couldn't escape. Trying was gonna make it worse. The awful certainty was coming to him. He was going to get beat up. He didn't know why or what he'd done wrong. But he was going to get beat up, Jake could tell. And it was gonna hurt.
"P-p-please..." the boy begged softly, the grass brushing tears off of his cheeks that he couldn't hold back.

Shark attack
As Kyle had Jake pinned to the ground his elation hit a an absolute peak. This was what a succesful hunt must feel like. Capturing your prey before you devour it. Being the mighty beast Staring down at your helpless meal right before you...before...
As Jake begged a chilling hand from the grave closed itself around his heart and Kyle was back in the woods of Cork. Stalking forward towards his childhood best friend as he scooted away. Pleading to Kyle to snap out of it. To wake up and not do this.
"p-p-please..."
the word echoed through his mind, bouncing off the sides of his skull as the icy grip that held his heart squeezed tighter and tighter. His mouth felt sticky a sickening taste of Iron flooded his senses. he could almost hear the sounds of bones snapping and muscles tearing and he felt like he was going to be sick, but he was completely and utterly paralyzed.
Suddenly Kyle shook his head and looked down at Jake horrified and he sharply let go and retreated backwards, tripping over his own feet and scrambled to get back to his feet once more. A cold sweat clung to his body as he hyperventilated, his eyes darting around wildly before they looked at his hands just to confirm they were not infact dark paws dripping with rubies. Kyle rubbed his face with shaky hands
"FUCK!" he yelled suddenly. making sure the boy was unable to meet his eyes Kyle pointed to the castle. "Just get the hell out of here!" and he turned away, hands gripping handfuls of hair on the side of his head.
