Opal strolled into the library, glad she could finally relax after her first day at Hogwarts. She gasped at the vast amount of books, all stacked upon the various towering shelves. There were small tables lining the empty floor that wasn't filled with bookshelves. Opal grinned and set her bag down onto a table and skipped away to the books.
She went to a shelf labeled 'Charms'. Opal looked through them and picked a book titled Charms for the Young Witch. After that, she grabbed Quidditch Through The Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp. Opal kept picking up more and more books until she felt she had enough. She didn't actually feel that way, she just didn't want to seem weird, because there was two Gryffindor first-years who were gawking at Opal. She went and sat down at the table to begin her reading. She grabbed a dry quill from her bag and twirled it through her fingers to keep herself from being bored. An hour passes, and Opal finds herself chewing on her dry quill. She quickly sets the quill down and takes to drumming her fingers on the table. Opal read for another twenty minutes, then looked up to see somebody looking at her.

Nox wasn't surprised to find himself at the library, after all his favourite activity was reading. Back at home, his parents would often find him asleep with a book on his face. Staring at the isles of books, Nox couldn't restrain the smile curling up the side of his mouth. Looking at the different sections in the library, he wondered where he would start his reading from. His eyes landed on a section labelled 'Dragons'.
He strolled over to that section of the library and once he was there he began walking through an isle within that section, brushing his hand over the books he passed. He stopped in his track having been drawn to one book in particular. It had a green background and silver and gold lines intertwining at the spin. He took the book out and read the title 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' Newt Scamander.
"You're it!" Nox smiled to himself. Now that he's found a book to read, he wants to find a desk to sit at and read it. However, all the desks seem to be occupied by senior students who were studying. Then, his eyes landed on a table with only one girl sitting at it. She looked not much older than himself, so he decides to approach her.
"Could I share this desk with you?" He asked, offering her a friendly smile.

Opal gave a small smile and gestured to the seat across from her. "Sure!" She set aside her DADA homework. As the boy sat down, she noticed he was a Ravenclaw, like her. He was carrying the novel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander. Opal smiled. "I love Newt's books! Plus, they taught me all I know about Care of Magical Creatures, and we don't take that class for two years!"
Her eyes widened as if she forgot something big. "Oh! How could I forget, we don't even know each other's names yet!" Opal laughed, blushing a bit. "I'm Opal, Opal Ivory. What's yours?" He's seems nice... I wonder why I haven't seen him in the common room before? she thought. "I don't think I've ever seen you in the common room before!" Opal looked at him curiously, waiting patiently for a response. Her reddish-violet contact lenses seemed to glimmer in the library's candlelight. Opal glanced at the clock and noticed that is was half past 4. She looked back at the boy and noticed how he was holding his book. The boy had a certain grip on it, the same way Opal held her books. Having contact lenses, it was natural for Opal to notice these sorts of things. When she looked back to the boy, Opal realized her observation must not have been very private: He was staring at her.

Nox took the seat opposite the girl at the desk. Just as he was about to start reading his book he was bombarded by the girls comments on the book he was holding and a question. He eyed her for a few seconds wondering how to avoid a conversation, because he really just wanted to read.
"My name is Nox Diskin." He answers in the end, before lowering his gaze to the first page of his book as he begins to read. He held the book by the side upright so that half his face was covered by it, and the only thing visible was the bridge of his nose and his eyes. He breezed through the first chapter which was just an overview about the author Newt Scamander himself. The second chapter was also a breeze for him, his eyes moved along the page with ease. The same goes for the third and fourth chapter of the novel. He was at the beginning of the fifth chapter when he felt a pair of eyes on him. He looks up from his book, his blue eyes sparkling under the light and he sees the girl in front of him inspecting him, like he was some sort of strange creature.

Crap, crap crap crap, I'm LATE. I'm going to get in so much trouble for this, Gem's mind raced, speeding down the isles of books like he was being chased by a deatheater for what seemed like... no reason. Perhaps he was a bit of an idiot, but in order to hurry up and find books to read, he'd pretend like he had to grab one in a rush.
Clearly, he got very in character.
This was an alternative to his usual thing, where he'd shut his eyes and tap on the spines of books until he counted to 6, and whichever book that was, he'd read it. This, of course, was not the case. He swept past another bookshelf, and with a messy, outstretched hand, snagged a book from the shelf.
He stopped right before he was about to crash into someone, apologizing sheepishly when they glared daggers at him. He held the book in front of his face, hardly grazing the cover; it was about plants.
He shrugged, ignoring the mild disappointment he felt that he didn't get something a little more... exciting. Who cares? Maybe he'd learn how to create a new potion or something.
He pulled himself to the more common area of the library, where kids bustled around and sat quietly-- most of the tables were taken, so he sniffed around until he could find a table with... at least some of his own housemates sitting at it. He was right to look around, because praise be, there it was! A girl with dark, braided hair and a boy with... slightly darker hair and blue eyes, it looked like. He zipped over, glancing between the two with a polite sort of smile.
"Aye, wos wonderin' if you lot would mind if I--" He stopped, taking another moment to look between them, just staring at each other like it was a contest or something. Weird. "Ehm, I'm not interrupting sumfin', am I?" His eyes bugged out a bit, his smile less polite and more nervous now. They looked like they were either about to snog or give each other a good punch in the nose. He didn't know which one would've been worse.
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Opal looked up at the boy, her normal, timid smile upon her face. "Of course!", Opal'd say as the boy sat down. "I'm Opal, Opal Ivory." She'd be a bit red in the face, as though embarrassed of her acting odd. "And, no, you aren't." Opal would get up for a moment, and explained, "I'm going to grab a book. Be right back!" She'd walk to the shelves, admiring the intellectual maze that was spread out in front of her. Opal's eyes would land on a particular aisle: Hexes, Jinxes, and Everything in Between. She walked into the aisle, staring at the dark-spined books. Of course, Opal had never been into this aisle, seeing as she'd never taken the time to look. Plus, it was normally Slytherins who looked in this aisle. She noticed a pale, dusty book on the bottom shelf. Opal curiously picked it up, examining it. There was no physical cover, but Opal shrugged anyways, and put the book back, leaving the aisle. She next wandered to the aisle labeled "Dragons". There, she found many of fascinating (and humongous, easily some of the biggest books in the Library itself.) novels about dragon care, keeping, and everything and anything in between. At one point, Opal could barely see over her stack of books. When this happened, she called it a win and returned to the table.

Nox glances over at the boy who seemed to have just come out of a marathon with a dragon and looked about ready to kill himself right then and there. After the girl left the table and the boy sat down, he decides to introduce himself to the new comer,
"I'm Nox Diskin by the way." He offered the boy a friendly smile.
He notices the book the boy was holding. He tilts his head slightly and asks,
"Do you like learning about plants?"
He never really took much interest for plants. His mother attempted to make him learn and be interested in mandrakes whenever they visited the magical world pre coming to Hogwarts but Nox's interested always lied somewhere else. Although he did manage to grasp some skills that might prove themselves worthy in the years to come. At least, that's what he likes to tell himself.
He marked the page he was up to in the novel he was reading with a bookmark. Surprisingly he hadn't gotten very far into the book due to all the interruptions but he guessed that making friends was also very important, reading can wait till a little bit later, perhaps when he returns back to his dorm.

Gem hadn't had a chance to introduce himself before the girl skidded off, left there on his own with the other boy seated quite comfortably at the table. He blinked blankly, as if his brain had just been erased of all the information he'd had since he was born. That was a bit weird, but he figured he could get on with these people.
Right then.
"I'm Nox Diskin by the way."
His eyes lightened up, quickly shuffling himself into a seat across Nox, attempting not to appear thrilled that his new friend didn't seem as much of a looney as he looked like staring at the other girl. Not that he looked entirely wacked out, it was just... a bit awkward.
He figured it'd be best not to ask.
In a hurried motion, he jutted an open hand out and grinned politely, bowing his head a bit.
"Gem Stuart, pleasure's all mine!"
He'd gotten to cracking the spine open with both his hands, holding either side of the thick front cover under his hands, scanning the pages. He wasn't so interested in what he was learning, and while it was stacked with knowledge, the writing... it just wasn't his thing. This would be a good book to set on fire, though, because of how nice and thin the pages were, and the large quantity of them. It was easy to say he was beyond relieved when Nox spoke up again, inquiring about plants.
"Ehm, no, actually, not a big fan." He exhaled, turning the book over so he could get another once-over at the front cover. "I just chose wotever I grabbed when I was..." Running across the bookshelves like an idiot, "...walking across the bookshelves. I like ta just choose wotever I can find, makes things easier fer me. I'm not really that decisive about me books, ha."
He craned his neck to get a look at what Nox was reading, suddenly appearing excited at his particular choice of book.
"Newt Scamander wos a bloody genius, y'know?" He nodded his chin at the book, "Joost a great lad. Never met him, obviously, but I've seen some stoof about him, and he's just... he's very inspirin' ta me." He began to speak with his hands a bit, only shrinking back when he felt a very sudden slam against the table. His brows knitted, glaring at Opal, who had a hefty amount of books being carried in her arms.
"Christ, O', it's a bloody library! You'll be fed to a Death Eater if they catch ya bein' that loud! Shh!" He was only half-joking, he had no idea what happened to bad students here. He'd also never met the librarian, and he had a feeling that, whoever it was, could probably kill about 10 kids just by looking at them.

Nox took Gem's hand and shook it. He watched as the kid opened the thick book about plants and pretended he was reading it with all the interest he had.
"You alright Gem? You seem to be very exhausted." Nox commented seeing how exhausted the boy was.
By the look on the boy's face Nox could tell that he wasn't interested in the book by any means. Being completely honest Nox wouldn't read a book about pants in much of a hurry like Gem was unless it was required by the class teacher.
When Gem commented on the author of the book he was holding, Nox shrugged and replied,
"I've heard great things about this author too. "
Nox could've sworn felt himself lift off his chair when Opal came back and dropping the heavy pile of books on the table. He looked from her to the books and back to her slightly startled yet questioningly. What was this girl getting at? Why has she collected so many books from the shelves. Was she trying to show off her intellectual abilities? These thoughts came to Nox's mind but being the person he was he didn't hesitate to get an answer.

Opal'd snort sarcastically. "Reading, what else?" She sat down at the third chair at the table. "I grabbed a few for my weekly readings. I already finished last week's. But, the rest is for studying!" She noticed Gem's glare and blushed shyly. "Sorry. I'm a bloody Ravenclaw! It's what I do! Wait-" Opal scooted in her chair to allow a Gryffindor first-year to pass by. "You haven't told me your name." She inquired, pulling out a quill and an ink bottle, along with some parchment. Opal flipped open the first book on the pile and wrote:
She yawned and set down her quill. She closed the ink bottle and shuffled her things into her bag. Then, she opened Great Wizards of the Twentieth Century, and started to read. She did this until she eventually finished the book after a half hour. Opal mumbled something that sounded like, "Onceawood, allawood." She got out her parchment, quill, and ink again and worked a bit more on her essay. Opal finished and signed her name at the bottom with a flourish. Then, she pulled a new book off of her pile and read once more. She appeared to be a bit more distant from the boys than she had when they first arrived. This was just her way of showing she was comfortable around them: By ignoring them.Opal Ivory, Ravenclaw - D.A.D.A. Essay: Dragons And How To Get Rid Of Them
