An Unexpected Letter
Piérre plopped down unnoticed by his fellow peers at the Gryffindor table, having just woken up five minutes ago. His hair was a state of chaos, his outfit rumpled and uneven, yet his bright, bold green eyes shown with a mischievous and playful nature, unwilling to die or be tarnished by waking. As if to compliment, he beamed pearly white teeth, mussing his hair again in an attempt to wake himself up a little more. Romeo had just disbanded the main hall, as Piérre had passed him just as he himself went in. No doubt his twin would be trying to get some extra credit before classes began for the day.
Looking brightly about him and stifling a yawn, Piérre picked at the collar of his outfit, a black formal outfit with puffed black sleeves. Over the top of the shirt, he had elected to wear a highlighter yellow vest suit reminiscent of Hufflepuff’s house colors. The vest was harlequinned with yellow and black diamonds which boldly contrasted Piérre’s garish green eyes, yet complimented the sea of scarlet all about him.
The chatter of the hall made it near impossible to listen for anything other than noise. Girls chattered like starlings and like a chorus of many loud crickets, while the boys guffawed and chuckled amongst themselves, the more rambunctious of them in fact arm wrestling as they ate.
Piérre was swiftly distracted by the platters of food which were conjured before him. Pancakes of all kinds; chocolate, blueberry, apple, and several other rare and exquisite types, crowded several plates, all steaming and drizzled with mouthwatering syrup, freshly tapped and aged to be sweet and rich. Eggs, serves scrambles, overeasy, medium, hard, and benedicted, found themselves on a different platter, alongside hickory smoked bacons and sausages, crunchy hashbrowns, and freshly baked bread, toasted and browned in front of the consumer. Nearby, there was a five tiered plate which had five different kinds of fruit on it, oranges on the bottom, strawberries second, blueberries third, ripened blackberries fourth, and luscious red raspberries on top. All of these, whenever taken, would automatically refill themselves when their silver plates were completely emptied by greedy and hungry hands.
Piérre glanced around the table, noting that the drinks seems to all be coming from several pitchers around the hall, which, when a drink was instructed of them by a pupil, would shake violently before summoning a chalice and filling it to the brim with the demanded drink for the eager child.
Yawning again, Piérre put his head on the table, closing his eyes briefly. He wasn’t used to getting up early. Truth be told, it was really wearing him down, despite how energetic he usually was. His skin was pallid, and even though his eyes sparkled, they were still a bit dim, almost like polished jade as opposed to glittering emerald, even his crazy hair seemed to act a little more orderly than it usually did. As it was, Piérre had not received raccoon eyes yet, but if things kept up the way they were, he knew it was only going to be a matter of time at this point.
Finally bringing himself to lift his head with cut-off snore, Piérre focused on the scents and sights of the meal. He finally decided upon eggs Benedict drizzled in rich hollandaise sauce, a couple links of sausage, a handful of blackberries and raspberries, and an orange.
The food was remarkable, indescribable, even. The tastes exploded with earthy flavors, and even though magic had a large hand in summoning this food, it did a really good job of pretending that it didn’t.
Piérre swiftly dug into the plate like a wild hippogriff.
Taking a large draught out of a chalice of dairy milk, Piérre admired his milk mustache in the reflective bronze surface. This was turning out to be a great day already. He mentally checked off the first trick from his list. He had sent a toilet seat, as promised to Maddie- now he had to find this Peeves, the poltergeist who was responsible for causing many pranks and mischief. Piérre had a slinking suspicion that he and the poltergeist would either hit it off right away, or would become bloody rivals for the best prankster and mischief-maker.
Even as the thoughts were going though his head, Piérre caught a glimpse of movement out of the corner of the reflected bronze chalice, and a second later, shouts and yelps of surprise came from the students all around him as a screeching owl crashed into the fruit plate. She was brilliantly white, and had wise black markings around her eyes and the plate of her barn owl face.
”Zelda!?” Piérre shouted in surprise, dropping the cup and accidentally letting its contents splash on the stone floor. The brass chalice rang into silence as Piérre observed the breathtakingly beautiful barn owl, whose eyes were creased in almost human anger or disappointment.
In her beak was a vermillion letter, sealed with a gold emblem of the Ministry.
Piérre froze, kicking himself. He knew this kind of letter far too well.
It was a Howler. So, Maddie had not been happy about the toilet seat he had sent along last night.
Hands shaking, and listening to the giggles around him, Piérre took the letter form the owl’s beak. It was already beginning to smoke, and it shook violently as soon as Piérre touched it.
Piérre sighed, smiling pleasantly. This was a new record! Fastest he had received a Howler since he performed an act of mischief. It hadn’t even been 12 hours!
With a strong hand, Piérre brushed his plate aside, placed the Howler on the table, flicked the emblem open and then swiftly covered his ears, grinning like a madman.
Swiftly, the letter unfolded itself and then in a fluid origami, folded into the shape of a fanged mouth. A voice louder than a supersonic air jet boomed in the air, the voice of elderly Mathilda Wendigo. It was a voice Piérre had heard often, especially when she was chastising him. It was the voice Mathilda had mastered what she had served as an Auror and before she acted as guardian for Piérre and Romeo.
”PIÉRRE LUIGI MARCHONNÉ, WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH YOUR HEAD?!?! ARE YOU TRYING TO GET YOURSELF EXPELLED?!?! YOU HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FOR ME FOR FOUR YEARS, FOUR YEARS, MIND YOU, AND NOW YOU DO THIS?!?! YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO ME AND THE MINISTRY!!! DO YOU KNOW HOW THE MINISTER REACTED WHEN THE BLOODY OWL FLEW THROUGH HIS WINDOW DURING A MEETING WITH A TOILET SEAT AROUND ITS NECK AND LANDED ON HIS DESK, SCATTERING FEATHERS LIKE A BLOODY CHICKEN?!?! DO YOU?!?!”
Piérre was counting himself lucky he was covering his ears. Many of his peers watched with awe and started snickering amongst themselves as the Howler kept raving, spattering dark black ink blotches across the immaculate white tablecloth. Its voice took on the tone of almost having a bitter sob in it.
”WHY CAN’T YOU JUST BEHAVE FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE?!?! WHY CAN’T YOU BE LIKE YOUR BROTHER?!?! ALL YOUR MISCHIEF WILL CATCH UP WITH YOU IN THE END, MARK MY WORDS PIÉRRE!!! UPON MY LIFE, I WILL SEE TO IT THAT YOU ARE PULLED FROM HOGWARTS IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS EVER HAPPENS AGAIN!!!”
With a small gasp, the letter took a few shaky breaths before smiling kindly.
”Oh, and Piérre, remind Romeo that his potion components are in the top portion of his suitcase. He was trying to brew an environmental potion, but couldn’t find the correct herbs.”
Still smiling, Piérre nodded cheekily, pleased that he had been able to stick out though the Howler’s rant long enough.
The Howler scowled and got up in Piérre’s face, staring him in his green eyes before sticking out its tongue and blowing a raspberry which sprinkled fine ink droplets across Piérre’s cheeks. When satisfied, the Howler promptly burst into flames.
Piérre slowly lowered his hands. The silence in the room echoed all around him. Finally, he laughed sharply and loudly enough so that the whole hall could hear him and she shook his head, shrugging as he focused on his plate again. ”Uno sciocco è solo uno sciocco se vuole essere! I am not a fool, therefore, I am a genius!” So saying with eccentric passion, he threw his arms out as if to encircle the whole hall. “Am I right?” He shouted to all.

An Unexpected Letter
"No time.. No time!
That was all that could be heard mumbling from the girls mouth this wretched morning. Brielle had woken up an hour late. An hour! She usually had a very precise morning routine, but no, not this morning. This morning she had to wake up, throw on her robes and run upstairs to the Great Hall. Left with a few minute before she had to trot out the door, she applied a dab of makeup and went on her way. Now I wouldn't call Brielle full of herself, but she did tend to get caught up in herself in the mirror. Sure, there were plenty of beautiful girls at Hogwarts, Brielle just considered herself one of them. Well now I take it back, she is kind of full of herself.
Not in a bad way though! She defiantly is one of the nicest people you will meet, she just sometimes has those moments. Now enough of that, back to the story. Where were we? Ah yes, running out the door. She turned the corner quickly, her heels skidding the waxed floor. There weren't many students out on her way there, only those who dont attend meals.
Once she got to the Great Hall, she quietly tiptoed her way to the proud table of Slytherins and sat down, flicking her long black hair behind her shoulder. As she giggled with her friends about her being late, they all became quiet at the sound of a chalice clanging against the floor.
She cocked an eyebrow as she looked at the source of the noise. It seemed to be all the way across the room. Gryffindors.. She mumbled, rolling her eyes as she turned back to her table. Though a blonde haired boy shook her shoulder, pointing back at the Gryffindors table, indicating for her to watch. Annoyed, she glanced over and saw an owl. What was so special about an owl? It had been holding a note, it seemed normal, maybe just a family letter from home.
Brielle peered closer and noticed it was different though. A howler, to be exact. Her eyes lit up, ready to see the embarrassment in whosever cheeks the letter belonged to.
This howler had been LOUD, the woman's screech rang all throughout the hall. Large giggling commenced, but the student who in which the letter belonged to didnt seem to be phased. That annoyed Brielle slightly, but she shrugged and payed close attention to what he did next. As she got a better look of him, she noticed the student had actually been Piérre. She knew who this was because she had seen him in the halls quite often. The howler made sense now, because she knew he had been quite a troublemaker around school.
”Uno sciocco è solo uno sciocco se vuole essere! I am not a fool, therefore, I am a genius!” “Am I right?”
♡
Brielle stood and raised a fist in the air, smiling from across the hall.
"Yeah!"
♡
After Brielle, her two friends stood up, then a couple more, until eventually the entire slytherin house had been on their feet, all chanting together. 'Genius'

An Unexpected Letter
Elizabeth walked into the great hall late because she had just had an appointment to get her hair colored back to the way it was before she had to create disguises everywhere she went just in case she did anything out of the ordinary in the muggle world. Her last hair color was red, and with a little makeup she looked unrecognizable but now she was just her normal self which she liked very much. Her dad even told her that she could go by her real name again. Evangeline. She always liked that name and threw a fair fit when she had to change it to Elizabeth for her safety, but now it felt weird on her tongue. Evangeline made a mental note that she would have a meeting today for her group just because no one would recognize her. Elizabeth rushed past the tables looking for any the members of the group but stopped and smiled when she heard a howler go off. She felt bad for the kid who got it. She listened until the end and laughed at what the kid said. Something along the lines of "I am no fool so that makes me a genius." Elizabeth thought the boy sounded interesting and almost fell with relief when she saw he was sitting alone. So she plopped down next to him and put on a charming smile as she said "Hi my name is Elizabeth I mean Evangeline but you can call me Eva, I am a first year Gryffindor and thought I should introduce myself. You seem like a very funny kid by the way." Evangeline was used to introducing herself as Elizabeth but thankfully caught herself.

An Unexpected Letter
Piérre took in the chanting from the Slytherin table on the far side of the room, spinning in a slow circle with his arms wide open, drinking in the shouts. Considering he was a Gryffindor and that they and the Slytherin house were usually fierce competitors, Piérre considered it an achievement that he had been able to provoke such a profound reaction.
Piérre turned to the Ravenclaw table, all of whom seated there were rolling their eyes at the first year Gryffindor’s stupidity. ”Aw, come on you guys!” Piérre catcalled, beckoning them to turn their heads and listen. ”I may be the practical genius, but face it, you guys are the tactical geniuses! Hear it for the Ravenclaws, eh?” Piérre directed the chanting towards the silent blue table. By this point, even a few Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors were slowly standing, beginning to clap in agreement.
With another chuckle, Piérre slowly sank to the bench again with a sigh, stroking Zelda’s soft feathers and tapping on her beak playfully. ”See you in a week, old gal. I’ll be writing another letter for you to take soon.” He whispered quietly, taking her into his arms before encouraging her to fly back to the owlry by gently tossing her into the air.
Gracefully, the barn owl fluttered her wings, snatching a blackberry from the tipped fruit dishes before swooping up and through an open window that allowed fresh air to circulate in the Great Hall.
Piérre started at the newly made mess before him. The tablecloth was speckled black and white from the Howler’s ink, and bits of the cloth was even scorched and burned from the letter’s bursting into flame. The food which had been neatly stacked was now scattered across the table, and to nobody’s surprise, many of the Gryffindors which had been near Piérre initially were now moving away, chattering quietly to each other as they headed for a little neater part of the table.
Piérre was about to retrieve his plate when a young girl with long blonde hair plopped down next to Piérre on the bench. She smiled, which caused her nose to pleasantly crinkle up.
"Hi my name is Elizabeth, I mean Evangeline, but you can call me Eva, I am a first year Gryffindor and thought I should introduce myself. You seem like a very funny kid by the way."
Piérre looked her up and down, letting his eyes take on their signature sparkle. She was brilliantly blonde, and her eyes were almost like his brother Romeo’s, for they were a gentle sea blue which looked as if they had misty grey swirls inside of them. She evidently also knew, whether form Howler or from meeting him before (she might have, Piérre had a really bad habit of forgetting things when he was running through the halls looking for trouble), that he was quite a prankster. ”Hi ElizabethImeanEvangelinebutyoucancallmeEva.” Piérre gasped dramatically after saying the last bit in one breath. ”Man, you should think about shortening your name! How about ‘Eva’?”
After watching Eva’s reaction to Piérre’s little jest, Piérre went on. ”I’m Piérre Marchonné. Thanks for the compliment, I try my best.” Piérre have a mock bow, intended to provoke a giggle. When sated, Piérre looked back into Eva’s curiously bright eyes. ”I’m also a first year in house Gryffindor, but bet you probably figured that out.” Piérre shrugged. While he did look a bit old for his age, he still had rather round cheeks and big eyes, which complimented his oddly piqued ears reminiscent of a mythological elf’s. He suddenly remembered his current outfit made up of his black undershirt and the sweater’s yellow and black harlequin. ”On second thought, at least the fact that I’m only a first year.”
Piérre tipped his head in curiosity almost like a puppy. ”What about you? Where are you from? I’m from the Ministry. Well,” Piérre shook his head, correcting himself, ”I mean, I was raised in Italy, but then I moved here to the London Ministry when I was seven. I only ask because blondes aren’t common in Italy.” He paused. ”Light hair is really pretty, though.”

Evangeline laughed as Pierre made a couple more jokes. But Evangeline had a sense of humor to so she replied to the name joke “Yes i know, my name is sure a mouthful, I am still worried that my parents names me that. Oh and by the way, what did you actually do to get that howler. Speaking of which, since my dads a muggle I don’t have to worry about those kinds of magical disciplines. Also how were you raised in the ministry? Oh and I am also a fellow Gryffindor but I am more of the risk your life for a stranger kind of person than a going to take risks to get myself expelled kind of bravery” Evangeline smiled at the boy and hoped that he didn’t take it to personal. She then looked over her shoulder and saw the Slytherin boys looking at her and whispering. Evangeline grew worried so she whispered to her new friend who had just complimented her hair and said “see that group of Slytherin boys over there, well they have been tormenting me and beating me up, do you have my back I don’t really want to get beat up today by waking alone.” Evangeline waited for his response and then she stuck out her hand and asked “friends?”

An Unexpected Letter
Piérre listened to Eva’s responses to him, and Piérre made a mental count of how many questions verses statements about her life that she said. He smiled at the part when Eva had taken his name joke to heart. Keeping both statements and questions straight in his mind, Piérre decided to start out basic, throwing in a few tall tales while he was at it. He counted on his fingers as he answered the questions one by one.Interacting with @Elizabeth smith
”Okay, so, first thing. I got the Howler because I sent the shed horn of an Erumpet back to Maddie, my ‘mum’ without permission. It was a good thing it didn’t explode, Zelda can sometimes be a bit clumsy, as you saw her flying away from knocking the dishes over here.” Piérre nodded at the silver trays scattered across the floor and over the Gryffindor table. ”It wouldn’t be the first Howler I’ve gotten, and it certainly won’t be my last. You’re personally lucky that your parents don’t know about magical letters.”
Piérre chuckled once before counting off his second finger, a new tall tale/lie springing to his lips faster than groundwater into a puddle. ”Secondly, yeah, I was born in the Ministry. I’ve lived there my whole life. You know the Potter trial that’s been going on recently? Yeah, I was there. I snuck into the courtroom. There is so much cool hexed things and cursed items there, I’ve touched them all. It’s brilliant, an experience you’ll never understand til you’ve lived it.” Piérre leaned against the table, a sly, almost cocked up grin spreading across his face. He wondered how much this person we as going to take. She seemed pretty nice, though, and if she didn’t like Piérre stupid stories, he’d stop. He was respectable that way.
Upon hearing about Eva’s distress with a small group of Slytherin boys, Piérre’s green eyes flicked to them discreetly, gauging them for worth before looking at Eva again. Eva didn’t appear to be hurt at first glance, but then again, maybe she was bruised up pretty badly under her clothes? She certainly seemed the person whose meek outside would make for an excellent first target, and though Piérre couldn’t confirm, he could had sworn that one of the older boys she had been talking about looked a lot like the Dhampire boy and Quintus, the fifth years that had almost snuffed him on the train to Hogwarts in the first place. Eva said they had been looking at her. What if they had been looking at him too?
Smile never fading, Piérre looked back at Eva, who at this point had a hand extended to him. He had missed the part about being friends, but he figured it had something to do with looking out for one another. Sure. Piérre would always lend a helping hand, even when his own life wasn’t going well.
”Sure,” Piérre said, taking Eva’s hand and firmly shaking as custom in Europe. ”Allies.”

An Unexpected Letter
Evangeline smiled as she shook his hand, he had a firm grip and was smiling although she could see the worry in his eyes. “Do you know them? Have they bothered you before?” Evangeline decided that she would just tell him what happened to her so that he would be more comfortable talking to her. She took a deep breath and said “So when I was in muggle school this gang of boys were taking bad about my friend so I told them off. Then after school that day they cornered me in an alley and started talking about my mum who they knew was killed in a car accident that year. Then all of a sudden garbage flies out of the dumpsters and hits the boys but misses me. This was the first time I learned I was magic. Fast forward to when I come to Hogwarts, these boys push me into an empty classroom and the leader of the boys back in muggle school comes up and beats me up and starts talking about how I embarrassed him. This occurs for a while but then he surrenders but his group is still trying to beat me up because I am muggle born.” Evangeline thought she included all the details and hoped he wouldn’t be scared off by this. “I also have a anti bullying club, if you would like to join ten just tell me and I will send you an official invite.”

An Unexpected Letter
Interacting with @Elizabeth Smith
Piérre glanced at Eva as she continued to talk, and it took all his willpower not to let his eyes widen when he heard about her mother dying in a car crash.
An overwhelming sense of guilt and sadness overtook him, and for the briefest of seconds, Piérre’s smile turned into a tiny frown of sadness, but he immediately raised his eyebrows and lifted his lip in a carefree smile. There was no need to dredge that up yet.
Apparently Eva was a Muggleborn. That didn’t really shock Piérre all that much. It seemed a lot of Wizards nowadays were muggleborn or half-bloods. He wasn’t a blood supremest himself, after all, he didn’t know what his own blood status was, let alone what his parents’ had been. For all he knew, he could be coming off as quite a Muggleborn because of how much he knew of the non-magical world in his seven years before Maddie had taken him and his brother in. When Eva had finished, Piérre smiled, more sympathetically this time, speaking quietly as if only to Eva.
”I’m sorry about your mum.” He said, looking at the ground. His palms were beginning to sweat, and he dried them on his pant legs quickly. ”She sounded really nice, being a nurse and all...” Piérre laughed bitterly. ”I have a respect for Muggle doctors you know. I wasn’t exactly... well, the safest individual.”
Flashes of memory sparked and Piérre had to bite his tongue to prevent himself from gushing out his own life story. This was the longest conversation he had carried on with another student thus far in his entire life. It was odd, a little scary, and quite awkward if he had to be completely honest.
”Those boys haven’t really bothered me much in the past, but they did try to turn me into a Dhampire on the train to Hogwarts! Caught me in the car cuz I ran into them on accident!” Piérre looked up at them again, but found that they had already focused upon their own table and house members again. ”An anti-bullying club sounds interesting. That’s really chivalrous of you to protect other people like us. We need to look out for the small kids, right?” Piérre smiled again, turning back to his plate and piling more food on. His other plate of food had been sent clattering across the floor when he had dropped his goblet, so seconds it was. The mice would enjoy a feast tonight. Maybe Piérre would go say hi to them...
”I don’t know if I want to join a club quite yet, though.” He said, poking at his eggs. ”I’m having a hard time getting accepted into the school’s registration. I dunno what the issue is, but it’s pretty bad...”
Reducio*OOC Note: Piérre is in fact referencing in 4th-wall breaking that his user did have a hard time getting accepted at first! Haha, references!*
Piérre shook his head. He would cross that hurdle when it came to it. ”I wish you luck starting you club though! I just don’t think you’d want a troublemaker like me making a bad name out of your well-meaning group.” Piérre looked back to Eva kindly. ”If any bullies every bother you again, though, don’t hesitate to let me know. Tell me their names and the place you want me to ambush them, and I prank them so hard they’ll never forget it!”
Chatter in the hall increased and Piérre looked around in time to see that strident were already filing out the doors to go their first class. ”Nice to meet you, ElizabethImeanEvangelinebutyoucancallmeEva! See you in class!” Piérre shoved a roll in his mouth from a plate on the nearest table before waving quickly and dashing out the door to his first class.
