It was fast approaching the time of day that typically crowded sitting area finally began to dwindle in occupants, the promise of dinner enticing many away from their studies to prepare for the affair. Nestled near enough to the stone fireplace, the study area served as a comforting refuge for those who sought to get away from the hustle and bustle of the castle at large. The nearby entry to the Restricted section appeared to remain as unbothered as it always did.

Perched upon a chair at one of the still partially occupied tables a student in Hufflepuff robes remained with her cheek resting against her fist, posture hunched as the girl stared down at the page of a book. The page hadn't turned in the past 10 minutes. Head ducked as it was, dull eyes were locked on a single point of the page and remained partially obscured by the fringe of unruly hair.

Avery continued to stare at the page, right leg bouncing lightly beneath the table. She fidgeted with a quill, the tip dry of ink and the page of notes long since ignored. A moment passes as another set of students pack up for the day and set out. Breaking the illusion of studying, the third year lifts her head just enough to take a quick survey of the room. Not many students left. Her head drops once more and she inhales quietly. The breath comes out shakier than she would like to admit.

Not for the first time, she considers just calling it a loss and suffering through whatever may come. None of this quite sat right with her. But the alternative? Her thoughts turn back to the letter. Unbearable indeed. And that had just been over the course of mere days. Doing her best to steady herself with another somewhat shaky breath, the Hufflepuff straightens up in her seat and tries to push the anxiety pooling in her chest away for just long enough to get this over with.

She could do this. Much as it was something she absolutely hated doing, it was essentially harmless in the long run. A simple task for a moment of peace. Avery takes a moment to stretch, using the motion to take a better look at those still left nearby. She could do this.

Once again, Elisa found herself in the library. According to the girl's recent calculations, she spent approximately two hours in there every weekday and four on weekends. She would go there to study, since it was much more peaceful than the bustling Slytherin common room and the smell of old parchment seemed to helped her focus. Studying would represent about a third of the time spent in the library. The rest would be used reading.

That Monday evening, Elisa had laid down her Transfiguration book and had flipped it open. Then she had taken out a thick roll of yellowish parchment and had smoothed it out on the table. The second year took an owl feather quill and dipped the point into the dark blue ink. A tiny sigh escaped her mouth. She was writing an essay.

It was the Transfiguration homework given today, and since Elisa always finished whatever homework on the day it was given, she felt an urge to write the three pages before night came. Then, if she managed to leave a little time afterwards, she could go pick up the book she had been wanting to read.

The scratchy sound of a quill on the parchment did not cease for almost two hours. Elisa did not notice the library slowly emptying as students went for dinner, nor did she hear her empty stomach rumble. Four pages had already been filled from top to bottom, but the essay was far from finished yet.

He sat hunched over on a table in the Hogwarts library, surrounded by his own notes and research. His eyes scanning the pages of a book that was definitely not on his curriculum yet, but he had never been the kind to let norms dictate his actions.

The occasional murmurs and sounds of chatter filled the air around him as he traced his index finger under the incantation for the Revulsion Jinx, a spell that would surely come in handy against his pesky classmates.

He could already imagine the look on their faces when they were hit with it's effect. The thrill of learning something new, something advanced, something beyond his peer's age washed over him, overriding his thoughts about his usual troubles.

His thoughts drifted to his parents, who had been a masterful witch and wizard in their day, yet, he wasn't as good of a spell caster when compared to them. However, he quickly pushed the thought aside and refocused on the task at hand atleast until he grew bored of rereading the same portion several times over.

His gaze drifted from the book, he had now lost himself in thought. The reading he had done for Revulsion Jinx stayed in the back of his mind. Being taken over quickly by the haunting incident of the slytherin sleepover. The haunting words of his own grandfather.

The hallucinations had began with a few drinks, bringing with them a torrent of guilt and doubt that seemingly refused to leave his side. Even in sobriety he could no longer escape those thoughts.

The only remedy he could find was to run away from them, to occupy himself with work which left him no time to worry about else.

His heart sank as his thoughts drifted to his recent string of mediocrity. His academic performance had been perfect so far, as it usually was, however his Duelling skills were nothing to write home about, and his other forms of personal evaluation were doing him no better either.

The weight of expectations pressed down upon him, quite a heavy burden that seemed to grow more unbearable with each passing day he remained stagnant. The fear of being labeled average, to him seemed like a fate worse than death. The very idea made him cringe.

Avery allows her gaze to linger on a pair of seemingly younger students studying a couple seats away. Not quite sitting together, but close enough for the task at hand surely. And, more importantly, the tables had cleared out enough that the area was mostly isolated from unintentional eavesdropping. Despite this the pit of dread only seems to grow, cutting through the general numbness that had settled over her senses the past few days. She mentally recites the instructed wording of the rumors for the tenth time that hour.

The Hufflepuff makes a show of turning the page of her book and scribbling a few words of nonsense on the parchment. It was supposed to be an essay. She sends a thoughtful glance over her shoulder towards the Restricted Section, looking to consider something before turning towards the other two students and leaning forward a bit. "Have either of you two heard about Mr. Sáez?" she whispers conspiratorially, just loud enough for her voice to carry across the distance. She has to swallow down the uneasy feeling and forces her way through the words. She waits a moment to garner their reactions before continuing.

"He's always staying late after curfew and never leaves through the main doors, he always slips out the back. Don’t be too obvious about it but, just…just listen. I know someone who saw him in the Restricted Section. Late. Alone. But naturally he wasn’t alone for long, was he?" It takes a valiant effort to keep from wavering as she passes the words along as casually as she can manage, the hand not holding her quill fiddling with and creasing the page of the book before her. The fidgeting had become more of a habit these last couple of days.

"They saw him talking to someone in the dark, but couldn't see who it was. Just…this shadow moving behind the bookshelves. Not sure what was said, but the next day? A student was sent to the hospital wing. Isn’t that strange?" She sounds thoughtful at that last bit, having also been considering herself if there was any truth to the statement since she first heard about it. She hums quietly to herself. Perhaps she should look into it herself at some point. "The Restricted Section books have also been getting shuffled lately if you've noticed. But not in the usual way; it's like someone’s been using them." At that, she takes another glance towards the Restricted Section in apparent consideration. "It's all a bit odd..."

Avery seems to shake herself from her spiraling thoughts a moment later, looking back to the other two students with an apologetic smile. One that's seemingly genuine, at least. "Sorry, just remembered all that when I looked over there. Didn't mean to prattle on and interrupt your studies." The Hufflepuff makes a show of looking around the library, as if finally noticing how empty it had grown. She blinks. "Huh, it's later than I realized." Still attempting to tamp down her racing anxiety about what she'd just done, the third year begins to work on packing up her belongings as casually as she can manage. Her movements are almost lethargic.

Prat tilted his head slightly, furrowing his brow as the girl who had just began speaking something, he glanced between her and the other student.

"Have either of you two heard about Mr. Sáez?" the hufflepuff inquired, her voice low and tentative.

Prat was aware who Mr. Sáez was, The librarian. But beyond that, he had no concrete information about the man. To Prat, Mateo could be a mythical figure in the school, known by all yet truly known by none.

The room was suddenly thick with curiosity, and he could feel it prickling at his skin. His eyes searched the face of the other snake present there, Elisa, looking for any signs of understanding or sense that might mirror his own curiosity.

"Is this about that thing with him?" he ventured, his voice barely audible. It was a wild guess, a shot in the dark with words that help no conclusive meaning. A desperate attempt to grasp at an invisible threads of a mystery that he had neither an idea nor any guesses about.

His thoughts spun like a confused beyblade as he took in her words further.

"He's always staying late after curfew and never leaves through the main doors, he always slips out the back. Don’t be too obvious about it but, just…just listen. I know someone who saw him in the Restricted Section. Late. Alone. But naturally he wasn’t alone for long, was he?"

"Staying late in the library isn't exactly shocking for a librarian," he mused, trying to keep his voice as casual as possible. "Maybe he's just catching up on some... secret comic collection or something." He offered a small, hopeful smile, hoping to diffuse the seemingly weird situation.

"Or perhaps there's a book in the Restricted Section that's not quite suitable for young readers' eyes, you know, like stuff"

All while he tried coming up with a excuse for the librarian, his mind raced, was there something more to this? Was Mr. Sáez involved in something... dangerous?

His mind had already cooked several possibilities, each more outlandish than the last. The way she spoke, with such certainty and urgency, suggested as if there was indded something significant happening, hidden from the rest of the staff.

He decided to play along, nodding solemnly. "Alright, I'll keep my ears open ig," he assured her, hoping to glean more information without revealing his own cluelessness.

"They saw him talking to someone in the dark, but couldn't see who it was. Just…this shadow moving behind the bookshelves. Not sure what was said, but the next day? A student was sent to the hospital wing. Isn’t that strange?"

Prat leaned in closer, his curiosity now quite piqued, as he closed his book with a soft thud.

He had been deep in the pages, but the girl's whispered words were infinitely more intriguing than the fanciful letters he had been reading.

The mention of the Restricted Section only amplified this. The allure of the forbidden was not lost on him, and the idea that the librarian could be connected to something so clandestine was almost too delicious to believe.

He studied her expression, looking for any hint that would indicate she was spinning a tall tale, but he failed to notice any such inclinations if present.

What could Mr. Sáez be up to, and why was he being so secretive? The mystery had hooked him, and now he was determined to unravel it, even if it meant tiptoeing the line of breaking curfew himself.

"Could be he's got a secret admirer, a mysterious one who only comes out at night," he suggested, trying to keep his tone light.

Yet, his mind was racing with questions. Who was this shadowy figure Mr. Sáez was conversing with? Was it a fellow staff member, a student, or someone from outside Hogwarts entirely?

"Sorry, just remembered all that when I looked over there. Didn't mean to prattle on and interrupt your studies." "Huh, it's later than I realized."

"That's all right, I should be on my way too," Prat replied as he got up from his chair, his heart thudding in his chest.

He couldn't ignore a rumor like this, no matter how unverified. The quiet library, which had been his safe haven, now felt eerie.

As he gathered his belongings, he couldn't help but glance around the library, attempting to notice if someone else might have overheard them.

Elisa was finishing up the conclusion paragraph rather hurriedly, as she had finally noticed the emptiness of her stomach and longed for dinner, when suddenly, a voice spoke right next to her. The second year swiftly looked up, somewhat alarmed by this sudden appearance. Following the newcomer's gaze, Elisa noticed that Prat was also studying nearby, and seemed to have heard the whispered words as well.

The librarian? Elisa thought, incredulous, what's up with him? The slight edge in the older girl's voice made Elisa ill at ease, and she half expected a disaster in the following seconds. Meanwhile, Prat seemed to be aware of whatever rumour it was about Professor Sáez. Elisa turned her gaze on her duelling captain, even more surprised than before.

The older girl continued. Turning the words over her head, Elisa raised an eyebrow. Prat's response echoed her own thoughts - curfew is only for students, quite normal for a librarian to stay in the library... However, Prat's second sentence made her doubt his seriousness; she couldn't exactly imagine Professor Sáez reading comics.

Elisa rested her head on her fist, and stared up at the girl, vaguely interested. When said girl affirmed that a student being sent to the Hospital Wing was related to the librarian's actions, Elisa barely held herself from shaking her head. The Hufflepuff girl, judging from her uniform, continued, now stating that the books in the Restricted Section were weirdly being shuffled around.

"Those..." Elisa opened her mouth for the first time since the older girl came, "those events hardly seem related. How could a late-night discussion possibly result in a student sent to the Hospital Wing?" She stayed thoughtful for a moment. Though she was fairly convinced that Professor Sáez had nothing to do with a hurt student, she could not justify the random shuffling of books. She knew that libraries were orderly places, and that a librarian would not go placing books randomly. However, still determined to prove her statements, she argued, "Perhaps the books being shuffled is the result of some naughty students. Maybe some snuck into the Restricted Section." Then it came to her- "How do you know that the books in the Restricted Section have been shuffled? I thought students weren't allowed in there." She looked at the Hufflepuff, questioning, suspicion growing inside her. All those rumours didn't seem very convincing to her.
