"Mon amour, Je t'ai vu au beau milieu d'un rêve "
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
Geneviève gathered her skirt and withdrew her hand fan as she finally made her way from her dormitory down towards where the most beautiful of tea parties were being held in the gardens of Beauxbatons. The students from across the world had finally arrived and Geneviève felt it appropriate that as the young daughter of Baron Caussade, she make an appearance and start her life as a socialite off correctly. After all, it was never too early to make acquaintances and build her repertoire of confidants. Knowledge of other prominent families around the world would do wonders for her social status as she grew older and when she eventually entered her official Debutante day.

Her hair was perfectly arranged in a coiled bun with the appropriate tendrils of hair dripping from her head as though they were icicles preserved so beautifully on this beautiful February day. The feeling of love was distinctly in the air and Geneviève could feel the presence of love in the air as she graced the halls of the school with her presence. She bid her 'good afternoons' to her fellow students as she made her way towards the garden party. Of course, it was very different from what she experienced at home, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Her simplistic yet opulent gown had been sent from her home in Yvoire to the school to accompany her on this fine day of love.

Geneviève hummed softly to herself as she entered and noticed the large number of students who had shown up to the event. She noticed, somewhat prudently, that it was mostly visiting students. Though she supposed there were a few faces she recognized. It was easy to do so, what with her status in the school. She was popular in the upper social circles of the school but she supposed not all of her fellow future socialites would want to participate in a garden party just yet. They were young after all with the oldest of her cohorts only being fourteen or so.

She gently fanned herself as she found a quaint table under one of the soft, swaying trees and sat down in one of its plush chairs. She had walked past several smartly dressed students from the other schools, one table with noticeably flowery individuals, and she smiled to herself. What a wonderful start to the event, and how adorable that they had tried to dress up! She wasn't being rude—it was just an observation.

She poured herself a cup of tea with delicate poise, the kind she was perfectly accustomed to through her etiquette classes as she observed the event in its entirety. A whole week dedicated to the most beautiful of feelings; Love. And she was there to witness the trials and tribulations that it brought on only to solidify in the young hearts that held their hopes out to meet love, or at least its pleasure before the week was over. In two days after all, her favorite day of the year would wake with the morning sun and it would fill the world with wonder and hope. Her brothers had always told her that she was a ninny for believing in such things- but could she help it? No. After all, love conquered all even if it seemed silly and fantastical.

She could only hope that one day she would find someone with which to share the beauty of the word and all its accompanying features. It came in many variants- her mother and father being quite the example; a lavender marriage concluding with a happy apology and an aromatic goodbye before her darling mother had left for Moldova. Her mother of course whom she loved dearly, had always told her that the stars would align and send her the love of her life with the stars in his eyes just for her.

"After all," the former Baroness had said when she tucked Geneviève into her bed, "that's how I found mine-"

Geneviève wouldn't know until a few months later that she meant the seamstress but her mother had meant it. And Geneviève fully expected to find her the same way. She took a deep drink of her tea and relaxed under the soft spring breeze. Oh how she was enjoying herself so far. The garden was lively and all its comings and goings amused her. But soon she was full of tea and pastry and decided that a turnabout in the gardens of Beauxbatons would do. She gathered herself and straightened the collar of her necklace as she prepared herself for the walk.

Geneviève entered the more intimate area of the garden that was usually empty. While she wasn't a dirt person, she did love the flowers and the nature of the Earth. The sun was streaming beautifully and it hit her shoulders with its warmth and radiance, making her shine like a soft winter diamond. As she walked through the garden, she found herself humming softly, a gentle tune that she had grown to love from some old muggle children's story; La Belle Au Bois Dormant. It was her favorite and oh-so-romantic. The finding of Aurora's handsome prince within the confines of a forest, falling asleep and being awoken by a true love kiss. Oh, it made her weak in the knees to think that she could potentially be graced with a beau just as handsome as Prince Philippe.

She found a bush that had a singular rose in the softest of lavenders. The Beauxbatons gardens were whimsical like this, presenting beautiful colors not often seen in regular gardens. It made her heart skip a beat. Perhaps a sign?

After all, her knowledge told her this was a signature of "love at first sight."

Oh what a dream, she mused to herself as she admired the soft little rose. It was delicate, precious and all on its lonesome. She wished it had a gentle partner to accompany it. To match it in every sense of the word. It would be kismet- So touching and romantic.

Sulking through the grounds of the ivory château nestled among the snow-capped Pyrenees, Alphonse would don a lavish suit purchased by his style-conscious mother as both a punishment for his expulsion from Castelobruxo and to preserve the facade of a distinguished young man. If both of his parents weren't also at Beaubaxtons, Alphonse would have removed the thing regardless of how fashionable he appeared, but as the eldest Toussaint boy explored more of the school with his signature charming smile on his face, he'd receive compliments and notice the lingering gazes upon him from his classmates and international students alike.

His hubris had always been his downfall, but the attention garnered in Alphonse's direction prompted him to walk with his head held high despite the negative ilk resonating within. The boy longed to be back with his classmates in Castelobruxo, to rover through the jungle that was a secondary home, and to be with Briar who wouldn't show up to Beaubaxtons. It was all Alphonse's fault; the cold shoulder and unreturned letters had proven this. But as any young boy would, the newly-dubbed Wampus boy trudged forward through the muddle and silently appreciated the Baroque and Rococo elements of Beaubaxtons' architecture.

Long legs carrying him amid his detour from the institution would send him outdoors, away from the building congestion of students, traversing the grounds towards the gardens to lay dark eyes upon the monumental-shaped hedgerows. The grandeur of the gardens was understated by his new set of friends at Ilvermorny, but residing in the tropics of the Caribbean with a Herbologist as a mother set his standards high. Beaubaxtons certainly delivered in this regard and its intimacy lulled him further.

A dark gaze roamed down the flower bushes and the delicate sunbeams that painted the atmosphere in liquid gold. It was then that his eyes landed on a person ─ a girl ─ who shimmered in the sun so radiantly, like a reflection of the stars sparkling. Her back was to him as she seemed to be interested in something unbeknownst to him, noticing only her neatly arranged in a coiled bun and the soothing melody she hummed. Alphonse adverted his gaze towards other elements of his surroundings ─ the beauty of the gardens, the sun, the school, to avoid lingering on her for long, but none of its grandeur held his attention quite as she did.

Not desiring to be rude or creepy, Alphonse cleared his throat to announce his presence and prepared to flash her an apologetic smile should the girl glance at him. He remained quiet a moment more, simply contemplating if the Toussaint boy should introduce himself to her or not when finally the boy bit the bullet.

"Princesa," [Princess] he started hesitantly. No, wait. That's Spanish. Fuck. Alphonse chuckled and tried again with a sheepish smile, "Mademoiselle," [Madam] Gods, he hoped that she'd somehow take some semblance of pity on his poor French-speaking skills, "Pour...quoi es..tu dehors et pas avec la fête?" [Why are you out here and not with the party?]

A voice broke through her humming and the early afternoon wind as she gathered herself and turned around, only to be graced with a vision of a boy about her age, though noticeably taller and with a darker pallor than her own. Though it was a handsome color for him- perfectly paraphrasing his eyes and with the particularly interesting styling of his hair. She noticed the way he held himself, the fashionable way he was dressed, and finally his eyes.

'The stars...' She thought to herself as she saw the gleaming of the stars inside of his deeply set brown eyes. She paused in her glances for a moment as she listened to him speak in Spanish and then her mother tongue. It wasn't perfect, of course not as it was undertoned by an accent she believed to be Haitian... or perhaps some variant. It could easily adapt to a French tongue however if it were more practised. After all, French had been the root of Haitian Creole- Perhaps he was familiar? Though she wouldn't assume as it was impolite.

She gently fanned herself as she collected her thoughts like a young approachable lady should. The sun had begun to beat down slightly more and she could feel herself growing more flustered as they stood in the sun. And if she felt the heat, she was sure that this handsome young man in front of her did as well. Finally regaining a sense of civility and recognizing her place she spoke to him.

"Oh monsieur, je ne vous ai pas entendu approcher. Je souhaitais simplement un retournement des jardins." Oh sir- I didn't hear you approach. I simply wished for a turnabout the gardens. She spoke in her elegant French accent towards him as she stood up straighter and adjusted the length of her skirt in front of her. It was as presentable as she could make herself as she tried to gauge what it was this young man had approached her for.

Je suppose que vous vouliez quelque chose de similaire. Les jardins sont tout simplement les plus beaux à cette période de l'année. I suppose you found yourself wanting something similar. The gardens are just the loveliest this time of year. She spoke happily as she turned back towards the lavender rose to take in its lovely scent and features. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. If she wasn't afraid of ruining it for everyone else, she would take it for herself and remove it from the gardens. But the beauty of the color was too rare to remove from those around her and perhaps it would offer comfort to someone else.

Où sont mes manières ? Permettez-moi de me présenter. Je m'appelle Geneviève Carys Caussaude. Un plaisir de faire votre connaissance." Where are my manners? Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Geneviève Carys Caussaude. A pleasure to meet youShe smiled with her perfectly practiced curtsey. She gently dipped her head as she spoke in a way that kept her respectable and demure. She took in more of his features and found herself being quite drawn to his dark complexion especially. It was the perfect shade of honey and walnut, reminding her of a sturdy maple tree. She wondered if his name matched his appearance and voice all the same. And where had he traveled from? He surely was not a student of Beauxbatons. She definitely would have noticed a sturdy face such as his own much sooner. Especially one that stood out so deeply.

She looked up at him as her cerulean eyes bore into his own with what she hoped was an honest look. She didn't want to come across as nosy but she wanted to learn his name. Besides, she was entranced by those eyes of his- the color of his eyes was the perfect accompaniment to his stature. Kind, open and easily conveying the same amount of interest that she held for him.

The sun grazed their hair, gently brushing against their skin as if coaxing them to find words, or even gestures to communicate. The sun gently illuminated her face, trying to bring out the gentle rosiness that the natural light did for her. From her fan, the comfort of a manual breeze swished as the only sound between them. The soft trill of the students on the other side of the garden was the only other accompanying sound for the two of them as they stood and she awaited his answer.

Tu parles, n'est-ce pas ? J'ai déjà entendu ta voix une seule fois."You do talk don't you? I've already heard your voice just once.

A more significant smile tugged at the corners of his otherwise passive lips after hearing her lighthearted jest. Alphonse took in the exquisite bloom behind the girl while trying to remedy the lump in his throat that impeded the Toussaint boy from speaking. His dark gaze watched the girl's movements with rapt attention as if put in a trance by her cerulean eyes and elegance in her melodic voice.

With another sheepish chuckle, he apologetically spoke: "Padon" in his native tongue before quickly speaking the French equivalent: "Désolé." [Sorry]

Not once had Alphonse ever spoken with someone of French origin before, so he assumed anyway, and would slightly comprehend the words from her lips. It would be thanks to his mother's lessons and the basis that Creole and French had similar structure, vocabulary, and pronunciations despite the overlapping words having different meanings. Yet, to this day, the Toussaint progeny only understood it better than he could speak it correctly with the French language's silent letters and tricky, nasally vowel sounds. The thing about the girl's language that tripped him up the most was the intricate verb conjugations and the fact that his native tongue couldn't have been more different because it incorporated Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili, Zulu, and other African languages of his home. But, by god, Alphonse would attempt to speak the language as best if it meant holding a pleasant conversation with the girl before him.

Her energy emanated some propriety; the way she dressed and performed a curtsey would accentuate this observation, and the boy would mimic her mannerisms despite it feeling unnatural for him to do so.

"Tout le plaisir est pour moi, Mademoiselle Caussaude," [The pleasure is all mine, Miss Caussaude] he spoke holding her gaze while bowing his neck and keeping his posture relatively straight as the boy had seen performed at previous seasonal balls hosted by Hogwarts. Upon hearing her name, a smile wore his features: Geneviève Carys Caussaude ─ a name that would be engrained in his memory for quite some time, "Je m'excuse si je vous ai interrompu. Je m'appelle Toussaint, Alphonse Toussaint." [I apologize if I interrupted you. My name is Toussaint, Alphonse Toussaint]

Noticing as Geneviève gently fanned herself, Alphonse was enraptured by the sun's light gracing her porcelain features but would move his towering self to block the sun from beaming down on her and create some shade. His gaze would find the lavender rose behind her once more and smile, "C'est beau. Pourquoi ne pas lui offrir une nouvelle maison avec vous plutôt que ce buisson solitaire?" [It is beautiful. Why not give it a new home with you than this lonely bush?]

Listening to his partially adequate French amused her to no end. It was clear that he could understand her but he had little to no idea whatever it was he was saying back to her. It wasn't perfect but if he had the willingness to learn she figured he absolutely could learn. It would take time but with his accent, she had a feeling he would pick it up with a more practiced ease quite quickly. She couldn't help the smile that graced her features as he spoke back to her with answers to her questions. It wasn't perfect but he was trying. More so than she could say for the other students across the nations who had come to visit.

Well... That wasn't the kindest of ideals- She hadn't spoken to any other international student besides Alphonse. And what a name- Something befitting of royalty quite literally, as it meant 'noble' and 'ready.' She wasn't sure whatever it was he was ready for but she assumed when he figured it out, he would astound the world with his structure. The way he carried himself was appropriate for one named such as himself. It was rare that she found another student who held themselves to the high standards that their names pronounced to the world. Her name had come from the picturesque landscape that was her home and perfectly matched her outward appearance. She was a "white wave," a fair maiden even with the beauty, poise, and grace to continue upholding her forename. Geneviève could only hope that he knew this inherently and chose to abide by it as he matured.

She felt the warmth of the sun dissipate as he stepped in front of the rays that were permeating her skin as a semblance of shade for her. Oh how kind, taking care to ensure that she would not pass out from the heat of the day. What a gentleman. Minding her manners, she chose to answer his question while weedling in another of her own.

"Mon Dieu, comme le soleil brille cet après-midi. Votre stature est appréciée pour offrir une teinte fraîche." My God, how the sun shines this afternoon. Your stature is appreciated to offer a fresh shade She smiled politely as she gently cast her gloved hand over her eyes so that she could look at him in his eyes correctly and not with an unsightly squint that would cause premature wrinkles. And being the only eligible lady in her family, she couldn't afford to mar her face or skin with anything unsightly. She needed to remain appealing to her subjects. "Est-ce que je me trompe en disant que vous parlez la langue de l'Ange ? Anglais? Would it be easiest for you?" Am I wrong in saying that you speak the language of the Angel? EnglishShe followed up, switching to the harsh English language that was far more common than her preferred French way of speaking.

It would be kind after all, to find some common ground between the two so that miscommunications would be rendered a mystery. And... though she would never admit to anyone outside of her tutor and the few full-blooded English people that she knew of, her English was no better than an infant who had only just begun to speak in terms of the accent. Her th's and z's found themselves muddled and replaced far too easily. The letter H? What on Earth could that even sound like? "Ahhchhh?" was that correct?

Speaking English to this young man before her would not only be beneficial but would make her better. And what better way to become better than others than to simply practice with someone? Again- Never admitting it, but taking advantage of it. If she was smart he would never know.

The heat of the day was beginning to parch her throat. She had seen some other students carrying those hideous "water bottles" around with them but of course, how was that to match with her outfit? This gorgeous ballgown was entirely just for show and to demonstrate her social status and wealth. The outfits her fellow students in the garden party were wearing were... quaint- adequate for a garden party she supposed. Though if there was anything fancier then surely they would have something more appropriate? Oh well, she supposed she could hand-pick a few lucky individuals whom she deemed easily presentable and allow them to look through her gala of specialty dresses for such occasions. Though she should probably pull herself from her thoughts and answer the question that had just left Alphonse's mouth.

Oh yes. The rose- Would she like to take it? Of course, she would! Roses were easily one of her favorite flowers. Call it cliche or however you will, but no other flower compared or filled her heart with such a swell as a rose did. Would it be impertinent to disturb the rose? Perhaps. But it was quite dazzling and would compliment her outfit well.

"This rose, it is so... lovely by itself- It would bode well for a companion to partake in it's loveliness." She spoke with a smile as she removed her glove and gently pushed her hand into the bush before gasping softly as a thorn nicked her finger.

"Ah! Oh mon Dieu!"

There was an undiscernible relief in him when Geneviève proposed diverting the conversation to the English language for his ease; a most generous and welcomed offer, but it would be a lie if Alphonse felt a pang of disappointment if the girl had only kindly suggested the idea because of his piss-poor linguistics. It wasn't for the lack of effort, though, and Geneviève didn't seem to wave him away from her side. There was a brief solace in such an astute observation, that was, unless it was his own pride reaching false conclusions; only time would tell.

"Easiest? Not quite, but I'll find a way to master any language if it means I can continue this conversation, Miss Caussaude," Alphonse replied with an eased smile, the charismatic words spinning from his lips much more proficiently, "It would indeed bode well with you."

His brown eyes scanned the hedgerows for a presentable rose to call his own; it would only be befitting to the occasion should the boy adorn a rose and bestow it in the days to come. The Toussaint boy was in the country of love, no less. Yet, none of the roses compared to the girl's beauty, and as such, his gaze found hers as she gracefully removed her soft blue glove to pluck the solitary lavender rose from the bushel.

Her exclamation caught him off guard, and Alphonse hesitated for a mere moment, unsure how Geneviève would deem his heartfelt actions that swiftly acted on their own accord. The Toussaint boy moved closer, drawn by something unspeakable; the distance between them shrank with each pounding beat of his heart.

His stepfather, Fabian, would teach Alphonse always to carry two handkerchiefs on his person; the one in his breast pocket was for the lady, and the one in his back pocket was his. Hopefully these lessons would bode the eldest progeny well. Smoothly plucking the neatly folded handkerchief from his suit's breast pocket, the boy tenderly wrapped his fingers around hers to tend to the thorn's pluck with the ivory fabric.

Once the bleeding had ceased, Alphonse would gently coax the lavender bloom from the briar with his free hand before presenting it to her with a smile: "A rose for a rose."

Geneviève looked at him with admiration as he offered her the rose. It was so beautifully pronounced that she wondered if it was slightly too big to hold without crushing it. Alphonse had already done so much by offering her his handkerchief to quell her weeping finger after the thorn had bitten her. The deep ruby red had nearly dripped and stained her gown but he had saved her gown by wrapping her finger in the soft material.

Now with the rose, she felt so giddy. She felt herself growing nervous about how to respond after he had called her a rose. Roses were her favorite flower, and though he couldn't have known about her favorite flower given that they had only just met, it made her heart flutter that he had called her such a beautiful name.

She gently held the rose to her eyes, observing the pale lavender color that stained its petals. Hints of white remained where the color had not fully permeated. The rose was imperfect but still just as gorgeous nonetheless. She thought that it was wonderful.

From the inside of the Beauxbatons dining hall, they could hear the commotion and excitement of all the schools getting together. It seemed as though the party was in full swing, and while she had already participated, she wondered if Alphonse had gotten the opportunity to enjoy the festivities and the inner beauty of the French Academy of Magic. She always found that people were mesmerized by the fact that they were surrounded by beautiful music and serenaded by the forest nymphs. It was ever so romantic on any given day, but the music being played this week simply took the cake. It was something that simply set them above the other schools in this regard.

Speaking of other schools, Geneviève wasn't entirely sure where to place Alphonse from. The Haitian Creole that underlaid his English could imply that he went to either Ilvermorny or perhaps the school of Castlebruxo. Now she had never been to either, it wasn't in her father's itinerary to visit the United States of America or Southern America as it were but she did so enjoy the idea of visiting the big cities of the states. Or even Brazil or Argentina. She did so love traveling. But France was her home and she would always find herself turning over with homesickness if she was away for too long.

"Now Alphonse, do tell me- your school? Which school is it that you belong to?" She asked as the bleeding of her finger came to a halt. She pulled the handkerchief away looking at her finger to ensure that it had fully finished before she gloved her hand with her matching satin glove. Though she was unsure about what to do with the handkerchief. It was soiled with blood and ought to be cleaned before she returned it yes?

Would he be upset if she pocketed it until their next meeting? That was to say, would he appreciate her having it set off to the launders in the understretches of the school?

She pocketed it anyway. She would return it to him later, clean and pressed.

"Have you been in the celebration? It's so magnifique. So tellement très beau..." She said, slipping backward into French. It was a habit that came from the overuse of her English. Of course, she had been learning English for some time now, ever since she was about five or so, but as with any second language- it was hard not to fall back to where one's brain was more comfortable. She hoped Alphonse didn't mind. It seemed he knew enough to catch up with whatever it was she said but she didn't want to be rude. Though she couldn't help it- her brain was exhausting itself trying to come up with the correct spot of English for communication.

She just continued to smile and remain polite to the boy in front of her.

The Toussaint boy curled a soft smile, observing Geneviève with intent as she admired the lavender rose with such gentleness and grace, as though the girl was seeing beauty for the first time. There was an inkling of fear, or perhaps slight deterration, at the comment that had slipped so effortlessly, so mindlessly from his lips. Alphonse meant every word, of course, but it wouldn't be his intention to irritate her should his compliment go poorly received. To his relief and slight dismay, Geneviève wouldn't say anything; her eyes, however, shone with the unspoken truth. Perhaps she was simply being polite, or maybe there was something else circulating in the air between them; either way, Alphonse remained peacefully silent, wearing only a proper smile and eyes that gleamed with equal admiration.

Filling the tranquil silence, she unsurprisingly inquired of his origins; a common inquiry Alphonse often was greeted with. Right before Christmas, the boy boasted and practically oozed with Castelobruxo pride. He oftentimes carried Castelobruxo Quidditch paraphernalia during trips, bragging about his Chaser position on the quidditch team and the wins under his belt, his innate athleticism garnering him quite the reputation both in the air and on the ground. Now? Not so much. Ilvermorny was still a foreign name on his lips, nor did the bright boy shine with as much pride as before. The eldest of the Toussaint boys still managed to earn a role on the American team as a Beater, but the boy was still very much an outsider.

"Castelo- I mean, Ilvermorny," Alphonse replied with a sheepish chuckle, "I switched schools last month. My father, he is the new Headmaster.. the directeur, of Ilvermorny;" the subtle usage of french to ease the communication between them.

The reasons for his so-called "transfer" were left ambiguous on his lips, daring not to spoil the moment between them with retellings of his expulsion. Perhaps there would be a conversation later once they knew each other better, or maybe Genevieve may not ever find out. Very few would know the reasons why he had beaten Rafael into a bloodied, broken pulp, for Alphonse refused to snitch on the other boy. Telling the truth to Headmistress Fernandez could have saved his own ass from being expelled from Castelobruxo, yet the boy prided himself on his reputation of keeping secrets, of never being recognized as a snitch.

Rafael was dealt with, and Alphonse had no desire to drag his cousin Isadora into his mess despite her being the cause of his violence. It was possible rumors were already afloat, painting the Toussaint boy falsely, accosting him, tarnishing his good name. He didn't care though; those who knew Alphonse recognized him as kind, a charmer, a lady's man, loyal and proud—not some brute, bully or antagonist. He was trying to protect his cousin from Rafael's torment, and in his own way, Isadora was protected; there was no regret or internal qualms with his methods for "problem-solving."

"I have not been to the celebration, too busy..noisy..trop occupé, bruyant," he responded to her other question, a more confident and rounded smile donning his countenance, "but if you would honor me? Veux-tu m'honorer?"

He held his arm out, preparing to accompany her to the festivities beyond the confines of the garden, should she choose to do so.
