xxxThe day that the international schools arrived at Beaxbatons was a full day. Not only was there a tea party with something afoot. There was another great opportunity for students and adults to communicate with each other, find new friend or even a lover. Cultural and language barriers didn't seem to matter this day as they made their way to the third floor. The art gallery was unrecognisable today for Beauxbatons students and those who got a chance to glance at it earlier. A set of tables could be found, but the center one was the one that would draw the most attention. Upon it was a heart shaped cauldron and it was filled with paper hearts. Around the cauldron there were some flowers. Each table having a lantern, adding to the atmosphere of the coming holiday.

Image posted by the member

xxxStudents and adults if they wished would come one after another to the cauldron and take one heart. They would find a name written on it. Going to the other table they could take hold of ink, quills and parchments. For those who wanted to make it even more special there were multiple different envelopes filled with muggle craft supplies, glue, heart stickers and even glitter. They could take time to write their letters soon after. Some would be lucky and perhaps get to write to their friend or even lover. Some would get an opportunity to meet someone new. Either way everyone would get to socialise this evening, perhaps continuing from the interactions people had at the tea party.

Image posted by the member

xxxAfter the letters were written, students and adults could search for their pen pal partner and exchange their letters and get to know each other more. However, if they should face difficulty with finding their partner or were too shy to approach them, Emery Albrecht and Célestine de la Croix-Valmer were there to help. The letters could be placed into a a heart shaped box with a slot in it, perfect for sliding the letters into. These would then be delivered by Albrecht or De La Croix-Valmer, at the end of the event by hand.

Image posted by the member

xxxThere were different snacks and hot cocoa if writing letters and socialising made the students hungry. A mix of love songs and general upbeat music was playing in the background. The music was quiet enough to not distract from writing and talking, but loud enough to fill in the silence. It was highly encouraged for students and adults to communicate more between each other so that language barriers would fade to the background or add its own unique beauty to the experience.

Mateo was so excited to be at Beauxbatons, that he had completely forgotten that he had signed up for pen pals, for both friends and love. Mateo had been paired up with two people, Oliver Armani and Madisyn Jones. He knew none of those two, but he was going to find out who they are one way or another.

One February 19th, Mateo woke up, all of a sudden remembering that he had signed up for a pen pal. And that made him excited. He couldn't wait to meet his two pen pals! And he couldn't wait to figure out what relationship will form between himself and either of his pen pals.

Mateo decided to dress casual, and once he was ready, he left his underwater cabin and made his way to the magnificent castle. He got lost on his way over to the third floor where the art gallery was, but at least he had found it.

He entered the art gallery and immediately saw a heart shapped cauldron. Mateo was curious and interested in why on earth there was a cauldron in the middle of a table, so he went over and he saw heart shapped cards. Probably where people would be writing to their pen pals. Mateo took two hearts out, since he had two pen pals and saw Oliver's name on the first heart and Madisyn's name one the second one.

Mateo then went over to an empty spot and placed his two hearts down. He then picked up two pieces of parchment, one for each person and picked up a quill and black ink well and Mateo stared at the blank pieces of parchment, wondering what on earth he should write.

Finally, Mateo decided he should write Oliver's letter first. So, the 13-year-old Japanese male dipped the quill in ink, and began writing.

Reducio
Dear Oliver,

Hello. I hope this letter doesn't come as a shock to you. But if it does, I'm sorry. I'm Mateo Yamamoto. We were paired up for this valentines day pen pal event, which I think is a nice idea. But, to be honest, I've never done something like this before, so, well, I wasn't really sure what to write.

Sincerely,
Mateo Yamamoto

Once Mateo was happy with what he had written, he folded up the parchment and found an envelope which was empty. He placed the parchment inside and sealed it before he wrote down Oliver's name on the front of the envelope.

Mateo then decided to start writing his next letter, which would be going to Madisyn. Mateo wasn't sure what to write. He didn't want them both to send the same. But once he had figured out what to write, Mateo had dipped the quill back into ink and began writing on the second piece of parchment.

Reducio
Dear Madisyn,

I hope I spelled your name right. If I hadn't, I'm truly sorry. I'm Mateo Yamamoto. Your pen pal. I don't think we've met before, so I'll tell you a bit about myself. I'm a second year attending Mahoutokoro, the Japanese school. I can speak three languages fluently. My parents are professional Quidditch players and I'm trying to follow in their footsteps.

Can't wait to hear from you,

Mateo Yamamoto

Mateo then found another envelope and once he was happy with what he had written, he folded up the parchment and placed it inside of am envelope which he had addressed to Madisyn.

The next thing Mateo had to do was to find the two people he was paired up with. Mateo got up and found a box where he could place his letters into. He placed in both Oliver's and Madisyn's and took the time to finally look around the welk decorated art gallery.

[quote] Madisyn woke up on the chilly February day, and remembered why she was here; she had signed up for the Valentine's Pen Pal event after some convincing from her friends. It couldn't be that hard to find a lover, right? It's not like Madisyn was mean and cold-hearted and hard to get along with. She was the total opposite of that. She always got compliments on how friendly she was, and her teachers always told her the same.
As she made her way to the Art Gallery, she was amazed at the architectural structure of Beauxbatons. It was gorgeous after all.
As she entered the Art Gallery, she was taken aback at how well decorated it was. Little heart Banners lined the walls, and little paper heart-shaped lanterns hung from the ceiling It was gorgeous, and better than Madisyn could've imagined.
A letter was dropped in front of her, from where, she didn't know. It had her name in neat handwriting on the envelope.

Three languages? Madisyn already struggled speaking the English language without stuttering every five seconds, let alone speak three languages.
She grabbed a piece of parchment, a quill, and began to write.
Reducio
Dear Mateo,
I'm Madisyn, and yes, you did spell my name right. My friends call me Mady though, but either one works.
I'ts cool that you can speak three languages! I can barely speak English without stuttering every five seconds, so props to you. I know a little French, but not much.
My mom was from France, but moved to America when she had me. Then, she moved to England so I could attend Hogwarts. That's cool that your parents are professional Quidditch players. I'm not really into Quidditch, but it seems cool.
I'm glad we were paired!
Madisyn Jones

With that, she sealed the envelope, put his name on it, and put it in the little box, then went to wait patiently for a response.

Avery was so excited to finally see more of the beautiful school. As she walked into the gallery, she remembered who she had been paired up with for the Quill Pals. She was happy when she found out that she had been paired with her badger friend, Joseph. Not only were they in the same cabin, but they now were also Quill Pals.

Avery walked over to the table and grabbed a piece of parchment and a quill. Then she dipped her quill into the ink and began to write her letter to her friend.

Reducio
Dear Joseph,

Hi Joseph! When I found out we were Quill Pals, I was so excited. I've barely been able to talk to you lately, so how have you been? I also wanted to say thank you for joining our cabin. I know it's probably not fun for you to be the only guy in a cabin full of girls, but I'm sure we'll all have fun together anyway! See you later, friend!

Your friend,
Av

Avery smiled at her finished letter. It was perfect. Well, it wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. She glanced around the room and found Joseph, so she walked up to him and placed the letter in his hands before walking away to go and view the rest of the beautiful artwork found in the gallery.

As Mateo was looking around the art gallery, he didn't notice that two people had walked in. In fact, one of his pen pals had entered the art gallery and one of his newly made friends had also entered the art gallery. However, Mateo noticed when he was done looking at the whole room.

Mateo saw two girls, one he recognized, and one he didn't. He assumed the one that he didn't recognize was his pen pal, but he wasn't entirely sure.

Mateo was deep in his thoughts when all of a sudden a letter appeared in front of him. He opened it up and read it before be grabbed a quill, ink, paper, and an envelope and once again began writing.

Reducio
Dear Madisyn,

I'm so glad I had spelled your name correctly. Well, I congratulate you on safely and successfully writing this letter to me! When we do meet, you can take your time with talking to me. I'm a pretty patient person. Wow, that's so cool! My father was born in Japan while my mother was born and raised in Spain. My parents went to different schools, but I'm following in my dads footsteps by attending the same school as him. Not everyone is interested in the same things. I'm curious, what are your interests? Perhaps we could find something we're both interested in?

Your pen pal,
Mateo

Mateo folded up the paper once he was done with writing and placed it inside of the envelope then he sealed it before writing her name on the envelope and placing it back inside of the box, wondering how long they would be writing back and forth for before they meet each other.

Just as Madisyn was about to walk out of the Art gallery, a letter, presumably from Mateo, was dropped in front of her.
She was delighted, but couldn't wait for when they would meet in person. Writing letters was great and all, but with Madisyn's personality, she liked to meet people in person.
She shrugged the thought off and read the letter.
After she read it she grabbed a piece of parchment and a quill, and began writing again.
Reducio
Dear Mateo,
I'm interested in a lot of things, actually. Ever since I was like three, I've been a dancer. I used to do this thing called competition team, which is where you dance, and go to competitions. It was my favorite thing to do.
I also know how to play guitar. My dad taught me, but I'm mostly self taught. And, I love drawing clothes. Like dresses and shirts and other things. When I was little, my dream was to go to a really good art school, and become a fashion designer, but I don't know what I want to be anymore now that I'm attending Hogwarts.
I was wondering when we could meet? I know getting to know each other is the main thing, but it would be fun to talk in person. Letters are great and all, but in person would be a lot more fun.
What do you think?
Mady.

With that, Madisyn grabbed an envelope, placed the letter in there, and wrote Mateo's name on the front of it, and put it in the box. Hopefully they would be meeting in person soon, but for now, letters would be perfectly fine.

Mateo saw another letter appear in front of him. Mateo read it and was glad that Madisyn also wanted to meet in person. It was a good thing Mateo still had his supplies with him. He picked up another piece of paper and an envelope and for the third time that day, dipped his quill inside of ink and began to write.

Reducio
Dear Madisyn,

Wow, dance competitions sounds like fun! I know a few dances, not many though, and I also don't call myself a dancer. You must be way better than me. I used to be able to play the guitar, I think I still can, but I haven't played one in a while. You should still become a fashion designer! You can incorporate magic into your designs and sell them to wizarding folks. Follow your dreams, don't let anyone or anything stop you from doing what you love. My parents told me that. We should definitely meet. Since there's only three of us, we could probably easily meet.

Sincerely,
Mateo

Mateo folded up the letter and placed it inside of an envelope addressed to Madisyn and placed it inside of the box. Mateo then began debating whether or not he should approach Madisyn first. They both wanted to meet, but should he make the first move?

Lyanna's first day in France was drawing to a close, but there was just one more thing she wanted to do. As it was almost Valentine's Day, the professors in charge of the event had organized a Pen Pal experience for everyone attending Beauxbâtons. Everyone interested would go to the art gallery on the evening of February 12 and take a heart with a name on it out of the cauldron. The name on the heart-shaped slip of paper would be their pen pal, and the rest of the art gallery was filled with writing supplies and parchment, including other things to make the letters and envelopes prettier, such as glitter and stickers.

Entering the room, Lyanna took a heart out of the cauldron that read: Sebastian Drake. She didn't recognize the name, but it sounded either English or American for sure. Thinking of what to write to her new Pen Pal, she put her quill on the parchment in front of her and words automatically started forming in her head, and without too much thought she had already composed a quick note:
Hey,
It turns out that I'm your Pen Pal for the next few days. The name's Lyanna Oak, or just Lya. Whatever you want, really. Well, I guess we might as well get to know each other better if we're going to write to each other; I'm a Hogwarts student, a Hufflepuff first year. I like quite a number of things, for example breaking rules while going on adventures, reading and drinking hot chocolate under a cozy blanket, sneaking to Hogsmeade, Quidditch... well, I'm not gonna bore you with all my interests, that would just take the fun out. How about you—what school do you go to, what do you like doing?
Your pen pal,
-Lyanna<3
Finishing the note with a satisfied smile, Lyanna tied the parchment to Ember's leg, ruffled his wings, and watched him fly into the darkening sky. She didn't really want to give it to him personally, that would just be embarrassing, and putting it into a box for others to carry was also not her style, so she let her owl deliver the note. Now the only thing she could do was wait for a response!

After arriving to Beauxbatons and attending the arrival tea party, Aly made her way to the pen-pals event with admittedly more than a bit of apprehension creeping through her veins. The last time she had written to an anonymous pen pal had been the summer before her fifth year at Hogwarts, and not only had that person stopped responding, Aly had never found out their identity, nor had anyone in the last year and a half ever admitted to having corresponded with her that summer. Signing up to receive a pen pal was not necessarily out of her comfort zone - those who knew the Ravenclaw upperclassman knew of her constant amiability and her ease of making new friends - but it was certainly taking a step in a path that had burned her before.

Walking into the art gallery eased her fears somewhat, simply because of the beauty of the space - paintings adorning the walls, tables with flickering lanterns littering the area, music filtering softly through the quiet air interrupted only by the scritching of quills upon parchment, and of course the centerpiece of the heart-shaped cauldron filled to the brim with paper hearts. And the snacks. Aly, like usual, was first drawn to the offer of sugar, and filled herself a goblet of hot cocoa on which to sip before moving to the heart-shaped cauldron, tiptoeing most cautiously towards it as if it would Transfigure itself into a chimaera and bite her if she got any closer.

As she did so, her keen eyes took in not the room itself, as they had previously done, but the people within it. Other than the two professors - foreign Heads, by the look of them - all of the folks that had clustered into the gallery to write letters looked incredibly young. Aly herself was short, so height was perhaps not the best indicator, but youthful faces, slight builds, and the fact that very few of them were taller than her suggested that perhaps she was the eldest student there. Brilliant, tinged with sarcasm, of course. All this worrying and she would probably end up getting matched with a first-year, a mentoring relationship rather than a friend or anything... more than that. Aly groaned as she reached into the cauldron, sending a small mental prayer to whatever magic was assigning them partners: Please, at least let it be someone within a few years of me.

Her fingers brushed against a parchment heart, and she pulled it out of the cauldron, eyeing the name scrawled there. In lovely script, bright pink ink, it read: Kavi Kattimani

The initial wave of relief that at least she didn't recognise the name as a younger year from Hogwarts was then tinged with fear that it could still have been a younger year from another school - after all, students from nine of the biggest eleven wizarding schools in the world were here, crowded into Beauxbatons like it was the library during O.W.L.s month. Still, Aly moved to one of the smaller tables and picked up a quill, choosing a parchment of a pale lilac colour on which to write her letter to this Kavi person. No further information had been provided by the heart - what they looked like, what school they were from, even their gender - so it was all guesswork from here on in.

Not that Aly minded a bit of mystery.

Dipping her quill into a pot of deep violet ink, she put the tip of the quill to parchment and, after a moment of thought, began to write.
Reducio
12th February

Dear Kavi,

I don't know you, and you don't know me, but I've pulled your name from the cauldron and I must assume that means some larger force intends us to write for these days we're here. Well - perhaps you're always here, I've no clue, but I'm from Hogwarts, so I'm just on the visit. Here until the eighteenth. Perhaps you are, too.

I don't know about you, but I like a good bit of intrigue, and I feel that being surrounded by first-years writing silly little love notes back and forth like they're going to meet the love of their life here at eleven years old kind of ruins that. So I'll tell you this: I'm a sixth-year, nearly seventeen, and if you're about the same age and would like to be friends, let's meet somewhere away from here so we can actually get to know each other.

There's a fountain at the centre of the maze, down in the gardens on the western side - you'll know it when you see it. I found it this morning at the introductory tea party, and I must say I think it's a perfect spot for talking without getting bothered by the younger years. If you're interested in learning more about me, and if you find yourself by the fountain this evening after everyone else has gone to bed, I'll be there, too.

See you then,
Your secret Valentine (Aly)

P.S. If you're way younger than me, please don't come - I think it would be quite odd being paired with someone for whom I am well their elder.
With that, Aly folded the parchment into an envelope, wrote her partner's name on the front, and, with a purpose, approached the box in which one could leave their letters. She let the folded parchment slip from her fingers and fall gently into the pile of similarly folded papers, then turned and left the gallery without taking a look back.

Only time would tell if inviting a little mystery and intrigue into her life would do well, or if it would crash and burn. One thing was for sure, though - Aly was looking forward to it either way, and if the latter did happen, she'd be out of here by the end of the week anyway.

As Madisyn glanced across the room, she saw a few people that looked familiar, but couldn't put names to the faces. That was alright though. She couldn't always know everybody, right?
As her gaze shifted from the walls filled with Valentine's decorations to the other decorations that lined the floor, she spotted a dark- haired boy, that she thought could be of Japanese decent, but of course, he would never assume anything like that. As she turned back to the table in front of her, she noticed a letter that hadn't been there a few minutes ago.
She opened the neatly addressed envelope, and read the letter.

As she finished reading the letter, she was delighted that her Pen-Pal Mateo wanted to meet in person to. It would be a lot easier to come up with things to talk about, because it was hard to go into detail about things with a letter.

She folded up the letter and placed it back in the envelope, placing it in her satchel with the other letters she had received from Mateo.

She grabbed a piece of parchment and a quill, and began to write.

Reducio
Dear Mateo
I'm pretty sure as I was admiring the beautiful decorations, I caught a glimpse of your dark hair. I hope you don't mind that we both have dark hair, because sometimes, people won't even talk to each other if that's the case. Crazy, I know. But I'm over here at the corner table if you want to meet. Perhaps it would be easier to talk in person than by letter.
Sincerely,
Mady

She signed the letter, grabbed an envelope and wrote Mateo's name neatly in the center. She placed the letter into the box in the center of her table, and waited patiently for Mateo's next letter.
