Admittedly, it had been a while since Kaitlyn left her dorm. She had been pretty upset over her exam scores from her first year. Sure, she had scored all right with everything. Yet, she felt like she could do better. She had to do better. She wanted to do better. As such, she had stayed in her dorm since returning to Hogwarts for her second year. She wanted to keep studying and revising her notes. After all, there was a lot she needed to review. Being a muggle-born, she didn’t have the luxury of being surrounded by magic over the summer. That didn’t stop her from reading her textbooks, however!

Since she was cooped up for a while, Kaitlyn had to venture out with her pet bunny, Demeter. She wanted the cute little fluffball to be nice and healthy. For that matter, her bunny needed exercise. That also meant that she needed exercise, as well. Hiding away in the dorm didn’t help in terms of remaining healthy.

So, Katie was bundled up in a peacoat with a white pom-pom hat and pink gloves, hoping to keep warm. Her pigtail braids stuck out from her hat. The winters at Hogwarts always seemed very cold. The Slytherin Common Room was often chilly in the dungeons under the magical school. That didn’t mean that she wanted to freeze when she was outside. She walked Demeter out to the courtyard. “Ok, Demeter, go hop around,” she whispered to her bunny before letting her hop from her arms. With a giggle, she gently twirled in the snow nearby, enjoying the feeling of being outside again.

So far throughout her second year, Tracey was expecting to see her best friend, Kaitlyn Conner, but, Tracey didn't see her anywhere. Not in any of her classes, not in the Great Hall, no where. It worried Tracey and she always thought about owling her, but she wasn't sure if an owl could find her if Tracey herself couldn't.

One might think that Tracey had given up on trying to find her best friend, but she didn't. In fact, to this day, Tracy hopes that she'll be able to see her best friend again.

Tracey was out on her usual walk with her two year old kitten, Tiger. Tracey went on her usual route, and as she and Tiger were walking around the snow covered grounds of Hogwarts, Tracey was bundled up, and Tiger was happy to be in the snow.

But all of a sudden, Tracey and Tiger caught sight of a familiar bunny. A smile appeared on Tracey's face when she saw sight of her best friend. Tiger ran over to the bunny and Tracey ran over to her friend exclaiming,
"Kaite! I can't believe it's you! I'm so happy you didn't leave! I was wondering where you were,"

Tracey stopped in front of her friend and bent over to catch her breath before she hugged her friend. Tracey then let go of the hug and allowed her friend to have space.

Demeter was hopping by the fountain, sniffing the marble construction. Then, suddenly, the two-year-old kitten ran over to her. Demeter’s nose and ears twitched, hopping excitedly when she saw Tiger. She was eager to play with the kitten again!

Kaitlyn was in the middle of a twirl in the snow, ignoring the cold for the time being when she noticed her bunny out of the corner of her eye … with Tiger. Before she could say anything, she was suddenly hugged by her best friend, Tracey. Oh, how she missed seeing Tracey! That was, sadly, one of the many prices she paid by trying to focus more on studying. She missed this whole social interaction!

Katie leaned into the hug, reciprocating it in kind. “I’ve missed you so much, Tracey!” She exclaimed, a few tears welled in her eyes, threatening to spill over despite the temperature. She squirmed a little in the hug … not out of shyness, but because she felt like a terrible best friend.

Once Tracey let go of her, the tears dripped from her eyes over her cheeks. “I’m sorry, I’m a terrible friend! I should’ve owled you. My marks last year weren’t as high as I’d like, so I’ve been hiding in my dorm a lot, trying to study to hopefully improve my grades. Goodness, I’m a terrible friend …. I’m sorry,” she rambled, repeating herself in the process. Her mind wasn’t working correctly at the moment. All she could think of was that she let her best friend down, which was never her intention.

As Tracey was hugging Kaitlyn, she didn't notice the tears welling up in her friends eyes, she only noticed them after she stopped hugging Kaitlyn and looked at her. Tracey's smile fell when she saw her friend crying. Hearing what Kaitlyn said made Tracey realize just how long they had gone without talking.

Tracey shook her head when Kaitlyn finished speaking and she took her time to find the right words to cheer up her friend, until the words came to her so she said,
"Kaite, it's ok. Your not a terrible friend! That's honestly understandable now. While you were in your dorm, I realized that I truly suck at Transfiguration, so we could study together sometime! Of course, whenever your up to it,"

Tracey knew that Kaitlyn was a muggle-born, so it must've been hard on her. But, now that Tracey knows the reason why, Tracey was going to be willing to help Kaitlyn whenever she needed it. Tracey wanted to make sure Kaitlyn knew that so she said,
"Kaite, if you ever need help, let me know, and I'll be happy to help. Well, anything except for Transfiguration. That's my worst subject. But, it's ok, I have a tutor, so I should be getting better at it,"

Kaitlyn felt horrible. Horrible that she was crying as it was. She usually wasn’t that emotional. Then again, she didn’t intend to stay in her dorm indefinitely. She had to leave eventually. What was the point of attending a magical school if she didn’t experience it? Regardless, she felt bad that she made the smile fall from her best friend’s face. She liked to be cheerful around Tracey, even if she didn’t always feel that cheerful. She liked the positivity. And yet, she was currently acting nowhere near positive.

A smile formed on her lips, through her tear-stained cheeks, at Tracey’s words. “Thank you, Tracey. I appreciate it,” she wiped at the tears in her eyes and sniffed quietly. “Transfiguration … Transfiguration … yes, I completely agree, it’s hard,” she nodded. When she first experienced it last year, the whole idea of what the class was about baffled her. She had felt so discouraged to see just how difficult it was to learn magical material, even if the use of magic was so incredibly cool!

A light flush bloomed on her cheeks. “I … thank you, Tracey. I’m glad to hear that you’ll improve in Transfiguration, and thank you for the offer to help me. At this rate, I’d probably need it,” she replied. Frankly, her grades weren’t that horrible, but they were horrible, in her opinion.

Tracey didn't like the negativeness that was radiating between the two girls. She liked everything to be positive, especially with her best friend, but in the current state that both of them are in, both happy to see each other, but Kaitlyn being guilty, Tracey knew that both negative and positive energy would be radiating between herself and her friend.

"Your welcome. I feel like the concept of Transfiguration is hard for me, because it connects to science very well, and I truly suck at science. But also the part where you have to focus hard of the object that you want to have appear, can also be hard at times," Tracey says.

Given the fact that Tracey is a half-blood, meant that she had attended muggle school in the past. Perhaps if she was actually great at science, then she would do much better in Transfiguration.

"Your welcome, Kaite! Whenever your up for it, feel free to send me an owl and when can plan when and where we'll be studying. We can bring our pets too! Or not, we might get distracted like last time," Tracey says smiling at her friend.

She and Kaitlyn had studied one time last year, Tracey had brought her kitten with her, and they both got distracted while they were studying, but she did have fun, a lot of fun.

Katie nodded at Tracey’s comments about Transfiguration. She found it hard, too. The difficulty of that class seemed even worse, given that she was a muggle-born. Never seeing magic before didn’t help when it came to actually casting magic … at least in her opinion. She just wanted to do well at Hogwarts. So, she felt bad when it seemed like she was having trouble.

“When I was in muggle school, I enjoyed the science classes I took. I found them interesting. I think for me, at least, Transfiguration is difficult because you have to imagine the transfiguration you’re trying to cast. I haven’t gotten the hang of it yet … ah, yes, and the focus, too. I don’t know why, but I find that difficult, too,” Kaitlyn shrugged. Practice was needed, as well. Yet, she got frustrated easily when she kept failing.

Katie laughed at the comment about their pets. They were distracted last year. Tiger was so cute and fun to play with. Sadly, that didn’t help with studying. “I’m not sure if having our pets would help …” She looked over to where Demeter and Tiger were playing before looking at Trace again. “But, yes, I’d love to study again. We need to do it again,” she confirmed with a smile.

"When I attended muggle school, science was definitely my worsf subject, and it's affecting my Transfiguration grade. But your also right, focusing hard on the image of what you want one thing to turn into is pretty hard, plus saying the incantation as well as using the correct wand movement, Transfiguration is bound to be tricky," Tracey says.

Perhaps if she and Katie had attended the same muggle school, then they possibly could've became friends back then, and Tracy could've gotten help with science. But oh well, she has a tutor now, which she's glad is a fellow Ravenclaw.

"Let's study sometime, without our cute pets. We'll definitely be distracted. But they can play together outside like this," Tracey says.

She looked over at Tiger and Demeter playing together and loved the sight she was seeing. Like how Tracey and Kaitlyn are best friends, their pets are best friends as well.

Tracey turned back to Kaitlyn when a question randomly popped into her head and so she asked,
"Have you ever entered the Forbidden Forest? I did, last month, with Matthew. It was, well, interesting. Tiger came with us as well,"

That's right, Tracey had entered the forest for the first time with a fellow second year, a fellow duellist whom was oncd her opponent, and is an amazing moderator, Matthew Campbell. She hoped that from that adventure they became better friends. But she hasn't exactly seen him since then.

“I think the trickiest is trying to do all of that fluidly. I often find that I’m missing at least one of those parts, which causes my transfigurations to fail,” Kaitlyn reflected. While she realized what her problem was, it was still very hard to complete the spell correctly. Too much information jumbled so easily in her mind! But it was nice to hear that she was not the only one struggling. The fact that her best friend, Trace, was also having issues made it sting slightly less.

Kaitlyn’s eyes glowed at Tracey’s suggestion. It would be fun to study again … as long as they didn’t get distracted, which came so easily! It wasn’t that she minded being distracted, especially in such great company, but she also had to think of her grades. The last thing she wanted was to be thrown out of the magical school because of poor performance. Could they even do that? She honestly had no idea … and frankly didn’t wish to find out.

“I agree, we should study together sometime! Mmm, that is true. As much as I trust our pets … we should probably do something so they won’t get lost easily,” Kaitlyn suggested. She knew how friendly Demeter was, and Tiger, too, for that matter. On the note of Tiger and Demeter playing, she looked over at their pets playing together. She giggled quietly at the sight of Tracey’s cat and her bunny playing around. It looked almost as if they understood each other!

At Tracey’s question, Kaitlyn immediately shook her head. “No, I haven’t. I want to, though. I’ve heard rumors, and it sounds kind of cool … as long as I’m prepared, of course. You never know what could be lurking. That’s cool, Tracey. I hope it wasn’t too eventful of a trip?” She asked, curious about how the Forbidden Forest was. While it was forbidden for a reason, she was still quite curious!

"Oh my, same! But, I believe with more practice we'll get the hang of it! And our Transfigurations won't fail. Did I already mention that my tutor will only be helping me with the logic part of Transfiguration?"

Tracey completely agreed with her best friend, but then she realized she had forgotten to tell Kaitlyn that Mylo would only be tutoring her so her knowledge of the subject gets better, not the spell part. She didn't want to be a burden to him, also, she was fairly good with the spell casting part.

Tracey didn't want any distractions for Kaitlyn, since she didn't want to lose her best friend again. So, unless Kaitlyn wanted the distractions, Tracey won't allow it, at all! Only during the studying though. If their outside like this, distractions are okay!

"Yeah, maybe your sister could look after them? Like petsitting? Unless she's busy, than that's ok too,"

Tracey wasn't sure if Abigial would be willing to look after the pet besties, but as much as she wanted to study with Kaitlyn, she also wanted Tiger and Demeter to hangout, obviously they need to be watched by someone.

"Oh, you should definitely go in sometime! Just don't get caught! Matthew and I went in for a DADA project, we decided it'd be best to look in the forest and see if we could find anything. The forest is pretty dark, and I honestly had to hold in my fear. I'm sort of a scardey cat,"
