One would think Oliver had learned his lesson about staying up and working on his work, spending more time reading and re-reading the same school books. Repeating what he read, and writing it down. Until it became almost a second nature. He could repeat it without needing to look at the notes or books. Creating flash cards. To further quiz himself. He wasn't letting himself rest until he could do each of his cards. Going over one class a night. Staying up far latter then he should be, Otis curled on his lap, and the recent paintings he'd been working on pushed to the side. He couldn't fully remember the last time he really sat down to paint.
Keeping his grades perfect O's was his number one priority. His parent's were not accepting of much other things, It was a compensation for the mistake of sorting. He wasn't supposed to be Slytherin. Six months into the school year and he was still not over it. His whole family, every single one. Until him had been in Gryffindor. So of course, keeping his grades up was the most important thing. And out of trouble, something he hadn't been doing very well. Fights, sneaking out, and talking to muggle borns. The same he was bringing, it was un expectable.
He was cuddled up in one of the chairs in the library books open all around him. A 'nest' of sorts made to suit his studying needs. He had lost how much time he spent in the library he was sure it had almost been all day. His eyes were starting to hurt, the words on the pages blending together. He rubbed his eyes. No, he couldn't fall asleep just yet. He still had work to do. He couldn't fall asleep, again. Having already done it a few months ago, on the grounds after. He couldn't fight the sleep though, and really. A little bit of rest couldn't hurt him to bad. Closing his eyes, resting his head on his knees. And soon drifting off.

Making sure nothing would fall out, Novalie folded the jacket before her.
It was Oliver's - the one he had given her back at the Halloween Party when she’d been freezing. As thoughtful as her best friend always was, he had insisted she take it, and of course, the redhead hadn't hesitated for even a second.
Ever since then, when she needed a jacket, she chose Ollie's instead of her own. It fit her much better, and wearing it somehow made her feel like he was always by her side. Not that they didn’t spend much time together anyhow - because they definitely did. Novalie always, without fail, found him somewhere (to his very delight, clearly), and their conversations ranged from their shared History of Magic class to how great Ollie was as a person. Seriously, she could never stop complimenting him!
Besides that, the girl loved watching him paint. Most of the times, she’d make herself home on one of the tree branches outside, while Ollie painted below on his canvas. During those moments, Novalie was very serious about being absolutely silent, giving him the space to find his muse or whatever artists needed to do. Obviously, he always knew she was there, even without her saying a word.
Playing catch with her spider or feeding squirrels up in the tree still counted as being quiet, right? Yeah - he definitely knew she was there just by their unspoken friendship bond! Not because of any ruckus she made.
Lately however, the Slytherin had been more preoccupied with his studies than ever.
Novalie didn't want to disturb him, especially since she knew how important it all was to him, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off...? The Metamorphmagus couldn't quite put her finger on it, but Ollie seemed more tired every time they ran into each other, the dark circles under his eyes growing more pronounced, despite her best efforts to help him with whatever ridiculously distracting tactics she resorted to.
No wonder he was exhausted though. Novalie could barely make it through a page of reading, and here he was, tackling at least five books a day or something.
She wasn’t an expert, but she was sure he needed rest.
Well, just as if fate had a hand in it, a few early flowers had begun to bloom in late February.
Not many, but the Ravenclaw found a bunch of snowdrops and picked them on the spot. She carefully tucked them into the pockets of Ollie’s jacket, alongside dried flowers she had saved since September. Novalie had made little bracelets and even a small crown out of them. All of it a delicate, colorful mix that filled the jacket’s pockets and sleeves.
To be honest, she didn’t quite want to give it back yet - Novalie loved wearing it so much - but she figured Ollie’s mood might improve if he got to wear it again himself. Perhaps the surprise of the flowers would lift his spirits.
And, needless to say...
Novalie reached into the pocket of her uniform robe and felt the little glass bottle inside. Her brother Liam had sent her red nail polish after hearing she’d taken a liking to wearing dresses - well, one dress to be specific, the one Eric had given her for the New Year’s Party. Liam had made some comment about her becoming more 'girly'. The redhead wasn’t sure what being 'girly' really meant - she didn’t feel any more or any less like a girl just because of clothing. What was up with that?
Anyway, she was curious to try the vibrant red polish, and who better to try it out with than Oliver and Eric?
First, though, she needed to help the blonde get out of his little misery.
Tucking the jacket between her arms, Novalie made her way from the Ravenclaw Tower to the library.
She knew exactly where she’d find him, and soon, when she entered, she was proven right. Oliver was chilling on one of the chairs, his eyes closed, surrounded - just as always - by a mountain of books.
With a smile, the girl tiptoed over to him, her eyes widening as she observed his sleeping form. She stayed there for a moment, watching him quietly, before her gaze drifted to these... books.
Ever so slightly, her fingers twitched, fighting the urge to draw her wand and just set them all alight! Keeping her smile, Novalie carefully set the jacket beside him before taking a seat on the floor and pulling out the nail polish.
"Hehe...", Novalie chuckled quietly to herself, amused, as she gently took one of his hands in hers. Opening the bottle, she ligthly began painting one nail after another, tilting her head in the process and realizing that red actually suited him quite well!

During this time, Oliver could- and likely was being called, behind his back -a 'work-o-holic'. Spending time away from everyone and everything, focusing on his studies. That was the only thing that mattered to him currently. And it was the only thing he could think of that he wanted to do. Ok, well- maybe that last part was a lie. There were a few things that he wouldn't mind doing all that much. Like painting or baking. His 'hobbies'. He was missing doing them, they took his mind of things.
One thing, he wasn't missing at all was the constant pestering from one Ravenclaw in particular. Novalie Moon, an annoyance like none other. With her constant insistence on being 'friends', she wouldn't stop calling him Ollie. Something that should only be reserved for his family. And her bugging him in class. History of Magic. One of his favorites, Oliver was good at that one. He knew it, it was just reading and keeping track of what you read. He could focus on it, and not worry about casting much at all.
Then Novalie came along. It was her fault that he had gotten detention, had baited him into sneaking out past curfew. And then they had been caught. For what? Nothing. Nothing at all. There 'goal', hadn't even seen the thing. The stupid gargoyle outside of the classroom. Then the thing had to watch them as they cleaned a bathroom. A job that was not meant for Armani's. It was something for- well he didn't know exactly, House Elves. That was likely yes. Just so long as it wasn't an Armani, Oliver didn't care who cleaned.
Sure, Oliver talked to her more then anyone else. Sure, he had given the redhead his jacket. But he'd mostly forgotten about that. It was just a jacket after all. Oliver had plenty. Despite all of that, he was not friends with her. That was what made it such a shock when he awoke in the library, he held back a yawn. And rubbed his eyes, scratch that, eye, as one of his hands was held in a girls grasp. He blearily blinked. Looking at the blurry mess that was on the ground by the chair he was in.
"Novalie...?" His sleepy voice called out, Yes. Just his luck, it was Novalie. He rubbed the last of the sleep from his eyes as he looked at the girl more clearly. Clear as day, right there, in all her redheaded-ness, was Novalie. Looking at him with those green eyes. And what was she doing to him? "What are you-" He sat up more in the chair, cutting himself off. "Is that nail polish?" The question may as well have answered it's self. Of course it would be nail polish. This was Novalie after all.
Every time he talked to her, or ran into her. She was always doing something no normal person would be. From asking him if he ate worms, to cartwheels, to being so touchy with him, really he wasn't surprised anymore. He'd grown to, not love it, he hatted it in all honesty. But grown used to it, was the better wording. With Novalie, one always needed to expect the unexpected. As Novalie did nothing by the books of what was deemed 'normal'. He looked at his nails, and sighed again, she wasn't doing a bad job. And naturally, this annoyed him. Everything annoyed Oliver.
