Great Lake, Hogwarts Campgrounds
2:30 PM
If there was one word to summarize her vacation so far, it was hot. The humidity in the atmosphere left her craving for water and not even the bunk in her cabin could cool her down. Sure, swimming in the Great Lake was risky, but everyone else was doing it, so why not? It was just another simple way of overcoming the heat without getting pelted with water balloons; this was the best option she had and she did not want a taste of her own medicine.

Emma wore a simplistic black swimsuit she could have simply used as a leotard during gymnastics but refused to due to its plainness. Although it showed a little more skin than she fancied, which was none, most of her body was submerged in the lake. Her feet kicked against the waves, generating ripples in the lake as she plunged her hair into the pond, turning the ends a dark brown. A moment to herself. It was something the brunette infrequently had due to choice and she wasn't at all relaxed. How could she be in a pool full of strangers she didn't even know? Usually, it was the brunette coming up to people and starting the conversations or arguments for that matter, even dragging them elsewhere.

Despite being as relaxed as she could, the teen didn't close her eyes or even attempt to hover on top of the waters. There were lots of students in the water and beating the heat was an understatement. Squeezing her eyes shut as older and younger students splashed around in the lake, her hands darted to shield her face, but that didn't stop the shower from above. So much for time alone.

The Lake was a crowded place to break into a swim. She was an impartially confident swimmer with goggles but she would never take her skills out to the beach. Goggles were the least of her priorities, however, she could touch the ground anyway but swimming was much faster. Bobbing and weaving through groups of students, she prodded deeper into the water, the gravel between her toes only getting worse. Gross, but she persevered. The water rose slowly until stopping at her shoulders. That was deep enough for her, regardless of the sun.

About a few feet away from her starting, Emma suddenly dropped like a cannonball in the pool, a hand too large to be feminine pulling her until her hands could touch the sand beneath her.. or whatever it was. The lit surface mocked her momentarily before shutting her eyes tightly. Nothing but darkness and the occasional hint of navy blue passed her phosphene. Panic rose in her chest. It was quite difficult to stand on one foot, that is, while being pulled. With her entire body submerged, her trust was in the hands of the other swimmers, and that wasn't saying much. It had only been a matter of mere seconds, but the oxygen had left her system and her thoughts weren't helping.

Exploding from the deep gasping, her lungs were replenished with the air she took for granted. The Ravenclaw looked down into the waters for the swimming student or creature for that matter. She didn't care what it is, or if she could see them, but they were dead. The closest person to her, soaking wet, was another student. The girl was already wet, another few splashes couldn't hurt, right? Pressing her hands together, she childishly pushed the water in front of her as soon as she broke the surface. Game on, girlie.

OOC: sorry for the late response!
The sun shone through the thick branches, dotting her face with dozens of golden specks just as Charlotte opened her eyes and covered her face with a delicate hand. The trunk of the tree was starting to feel rather uncomfortable, a sharp pain starting to make its way along her back and up to her neck. In front of her was the Great Lake, but most importantly, many, many students. Just as she had expected before heading outside, everyone would be outside enjoying the delicious warmth of the summer sun as fresh water ran down their hair, occasionally diving in the murky waters. To be perfectly honest, the lake was pretty enticing. Looking around, she squinted to see if she, by chance, knew anybody amongst the busy and loud crowd of students but much to her disappointement, no familiar faces seemed to stand out. Rather reluctantly, she stood up and let her towel slip to the floor as she pulled her hair tie out, feeling her hair brush her shoulders.

The ground felt hot beneath her bear feet and Charlotte couldn't wait to finally feel the cool water on her toes, up her ankles and all the way to her shoulders. She put her left feet in the water and winced, surprised by the unexpected coldness of the water. Biting her lip, she walked deeper and deeper until the water was hugging her waist gracefully, not knowing if the best thing to do was head back to the tree, or continue her way painfully until her shoulder would feel the same coldness her legs were experiencing at this very moment. Before overthinking, she closed her eyes shut, held her breath and dived head first into the greenish water.

For a few seconds, all she wanted to do was scream. Her body was almost paralised from the sudden iciness that took hold of it, feeling her limbs going almost numb. She hit the floor and shot herself back up, a wide smile on her face as she sighed in relief. It truly felt good to be in the water once again. Very few students, surprisingly were at her level, most of them staying towards the edge of the lake as they chatted cheerfully, occasionally splashing each other. Charlotte had always found the water deceiving. No matter how impatient she was to jump into a body of water, it always felt as if it didn't quite meet her expectations and got bored rather quickly. But, the first few moments were the best, and she intended on tiring herself a little before heading back to her reading spot.

Taking a deep breath in, she put her hands in front of her and dived head first in the shining water. Gently, she opened her eyes and saw nothing but a pure green void. It was a little terrifying, when she came to think about it. She couldn't even see the tips of her fingers, let alone the rocks on the bottom of the lake. It didn't help either when her mind strayed towards unsetteling thoughts, such as imagining all sorts of creatures swimmig past her, who knows, maybe she would face a mermaid. Feeling her heart beat faster, she broke the smooth surface of the water once more trying to forget about merpeople and all sorts of poisounous plants and fishes. After all, she was here to have fun, wasn't she?

Not to far away from her, a girl jump into the water, splashing all her surroundings. Charlotte couldn't imagine doing that in the lake, what if a rock was just waiting in the exact spot you intended to jump? Bringing her attention back onto the lake and enjoying the time she spent here, she dived once more but making sure her eyes were closed shut, she lungs full of pure air. Feeling the water brush against her face, imaging herself in clear water, was truly amazing. When she got back up, she felt water hit her face just a few second after she had wiped the water off her face. Blinking rapidly to get the water out of her eyes, she looked around, curious to know who was splashing water at her.

For a moment, she tried to look at the girl who had just sent a surprisingly big amount of water onto her. The more she looked at her, the harder it was for her to remember her name. Did she know her name? Had they ever talked? Not that she could remember. A confused expression on her face, a shy smile on her lips, she looked at the girl.

'I'm sorry, but do I know you?'
she questioned.

Charlotte may seem pretty boring, and she was aware of it. Maybe she should've simply splashed the girl herself, perhaps was it an odd way to start a conversation?Still trying to figure out if she knew the girl, she wiped the water off her face one last time before brushing her fingers through her soaking wet hair.

Forcibly thrusting a strand of wet hair out her face, Emma stabilized her breath to the best of her capabilities without panting like a dog in the heart of the lake. Part of her was still in shock from the attack, however, the remainder merely wanted to get retribution by any means necessary. It was only the beginning of summer; she didn't want to make a scene in front of everyone, including the upperclassmen. The coolness of the lake reminded her she was still in the water, kicking at the student's knees was an absolute nope. There wasn't much she could do to the jokester, but she wanted to drown her, right?

Drenched hair and the proximity of the girl was the only thing convincing her the younger student was, in fact, her death bringer. Droplets of water collected everywhere. Her hair had slicked back and water continued to stream down like a disheartening shower, but of course, she didn't notice.

The beams of the scorching sun were nothing compared to her anger towards this girl. Sentiments clouded her judgment. It was either a tsunami of water, a reversed action... there was always the option of spitting, but her confidence wasn't particularly high. There was always the potentiality of consuming the liquid, and who knew what existed in these waters, the thought of it made her mentally shudder. If the student hadn't gotten into trouble while almost drowning her, why wouldn't she be able to do the very same? Decisions were so hard.

Staring absentmindedly at her, the Ravenclaw bisected her arms, but only the uppermost layer could be seen at the surface of the water. The longer she remained there, the more she despised the girl for putting someone's life into jeopardy like a coin in a vending machine. Emma had to get her back. In one ear and out the other came the swimmer's opening words. It was unnecessary to say she wasn't listening with buried rage in the back of her mind. How could she not think about it? Relief and anger packed into one insignificant teenager never went together, and this was no exemption. It was a conflict between maturity and her childhood, classy or playful. There was simply one thing to do.

Letting out a tenth of her anger, she pressed her hands together and shoved another wave on to the girl. Drown, choke, or temporal blindness; she didn't care what happened, but the swimmer wasn't going to get away. That was a promise. One small push of the lake wasn't enough to satisfy her, but was it ever going to be enough? She didn't think so. Emma wasn't a murderer, not close, but not far either. She attacked others with heavy metal for fun, and not even that was enough. Another tsunami came, reaching the brunette's altitude before being released on to the girl and finally, she spoke, her voice a bit raspy.

"No. You don't." The teenager paused to clear her throat. "Really? Summer prank or something? That wasn't funny." Her words stayed monotonous, moving her gently legs underneath the water to ensure nothing else happened. It wasn't stopping anything, but it gave her false hope it wouldn't happen again.

Charlotte's thoughts raced as she tried to comprehend the current situation. The girl in front of her seemed fairly angry, spalashing water at her, quite an odd look in her eyes. She felt confused and enraged at the girl that clearly mistook her for someone she knew, or was it something else? Not entirely sure, Charlotte continued to stare at the girl with a concerned expression, swimming farther from her, wondering if another wave of water was going to drench her once again. The more she tried, the more her mind seemed to go blank, not having a clue who this vengeful girl was, nor why she seemed to hate Charlotte with such passion.

In moments like this, a few options presented themselves to Charlotte, whichever she wanted to choose, she needed to choose soon enough or she was pretty sure she would end up drowned by the unstoppable girl. Talking didn't seem very useful here: each time she opened her mouth, she feared the girl would simply answer with another one of those splashes of water, and she wouldn't believe a word she would say nor would she listen. She could simply swim away, towards the shore where she could try and explain herself to the girl. But explain what exactly? She could simply dive underwater and enjoy the surnatural silence that seemed to fill the cold waters of the Great Lake, keep her head underwater, her eyes closed shut, staying as still as possible and enjoy the feeling of letting go, the fresh waves of water brushing against her. No, that would be very odd, and just imaging the girl's reaction sufficed to convince Charlotte to go for her last option: wait.

She wasn't particularly patient, but she knew just waiting a little for things to cool downn take a step back would all be for the better in a situation like this. Who was she kidding? She might a very sweet and forgiving person, the girl's attitude simply angered her even more. Calming down would be very, very unlikely.

"No. You don't. Really? Summer prank or something? That wasn't funny."
she said, a tone of anger in her raspy voice.

'Wh- What are you playing at? What was that for? I - I'm confused'
she said, unable to control the tone of the voice.

Angrily, she wiped the water off her face and hair and contemplated the girl for a moment. Wasn't she the Quidditch Captain? Why was she being so childish and petulant for? Looking at her again, Charlotte put her hands in front of her and pushed against the water, feeling the pressure against her skin. The water bended and splashed onto the girl with beautiful wave. She felt furious, and knew her skin was glowing, her eyes intensily staring at the third year. If only she had been a full-blooded Veela, she would have transformed into a bird-like creature, scaring the girl off in jsut a few seconds-time. She remembered her Grand-mother, only a few months ago, spotting a young boy trespassing in their garden during the middle of the day. The expression on her face was indisciptible, her skin glistening, her eyes turning into the purest blue Charlotte had ever seen. In this very moment, she had felt so incredibly terrified of her own grand-mother, and yet the only thing that could happen right now were a bright skin, bright eyes and a slight invisible wind blowing through her hair.

'Can we please talk this out?'
she said as she felt tears coming to her eyes.

Someone seeming randomly attacking you would make you feel extremely bad and confused, right?

As the girl paddled farther away from her, Emma couldn't help but keep on her tail and swim towards her. She wasn't letting anyone, regardless of age or gender, get away with attempted homicide. She didn't understand her rationale for running, well swimming, away. If put in her situation, her choice was clear; and it wasn't retreating. She had learned from experience that if you genuinely wanted to make a point, words weren't going to do anything.

Retaliation exactly wasn't her, but she had given her a reason. The Ravenclaw didn't know what she was looking for. Without a doubt, she believed in the phrase 'An eye for an eye' but it wasn't her. Her brows furrowed and she followed her and as soon as she neared her, she exhaled. "Stop."

Suddenly wishing she'd gone home with her cousin, as words emerged from the girl's mouth Emma seemed to daze off. Homesick was an understatement describe her urge to go home and the next train wasn't for another week or so. Until then, she was stuck here on the grounds. Unsure of how long she'd been speaking, the teenager snapped back to existence after imagining home. The dinner set on the table, and the petty bickering that constantly sounded when each family member debated at the table. It was much better than having a normal conversation, at least in her opinion. Somehow, however, this girl had the nerves to mess with her.

"Playing at?" She repeated offensively, mocking her tone lightly. Eyes ignoring the swimmer, she scoffed and crossed her arms. It was more of a habit she'd begun to take on instead of rapidly moving and making gestures she knew she would regret. "Wow... That's- that's funny."

No matter how hard she tried to stay angry, she couldn't help but feel a little sorry. Emma had yelled, and possibly even hurt her feelings. It was like her to accuse others. As long as she didn't have to take the blame she didn't care what happened. Even with the feelings, she controlled her tone, keeping it tight and annoyed. "Fine. What could you possibly want to talk about?"
