Ginevra Tsuchiya, or more commonly known as Ginny, got up pretty early this morning. In fact, she actually had not got good sleep and kept waking up now and then. At dawn, Ginny felt that to lie down on her bed longer was unbearable. She went to the bathroom and washed her face, got dressed, and combed her shoulder-length hair.

At seven a.m., her dorm got too stuffy that she headed to the Great Lake, although not without her Muggle novel. It's far better to be here, the girl thought. Taking a few deep breath, Ginny could feel how fresh the air was. She declined her first plan to read and decided to reflect a little while enjoying the lovely scenery out here.

Something hurting just happened last night. Ginny had had trouble sleeping and thus, decided to head to the Hufflepuff Common Room. And what did she see? Her crush, stargazing with another girl.

Ginny threw a stone into the lake at this memory. She was mad last night, but now she felt more sadness than anger. Of course it was nobody's fault; that boy was free to choose whom he liked, but still...

The blonde lifted up her face to watch the rising sun. Its light was reflected on the lake, and really, it was more than beautiful. However, it was not enough to lift Ginny up from her sadness. But it did remind her of a song, and the girl decided to hum some part of it.

"There'll be no string to bind your hand, not if my love can't bind your heart," she began. Pause. "I see no need to take me... back to dorm. I'm old enough to face the dawn!

"Just call me 'Angel of the Morning'. Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby." Ginny did not realise that her voice gradually grew louder, for she was too absorbed in her singing. And she also did not realise that someone was approaching.

Usually Marian would still be asleep, but she had woken up at 6:42, and couldn't fall back asleep, so she tiptoed around her room. The sun had risen and the golden beams spread onto Marian's face. suddenly she felt an urge she had not felt in a long time. She needed to go outside. She grabbed her black fleece robe and threw it over her simple grey dress she had worn to bed. Her shoulder length hair was not brushed, but she didn't care. It looked fine. Then she went outside.

The cold morning air was fresh and clear. She admired the landscape as she tiptoed towards a tree she liked. She had brought a few pieces of parchment and a quill, along with a bottle of ink in her bag. Her sandals were now soaked from the dew, so she took them off and held them in one hand, and her bag in the other. She stood still for a moment, admiring the beauty, when she heard a voice. She couldn't make out what it was saying, but she could tell that it was singing. She drew near to the voice, then stood almost ten feet behind the girl. She didn't do or say anything, just listened.

Normally, Swan would stargaze before she slept. And she did. She would sleep by 10, and wake up at 6. It was kind of boring when most of the students were still asleep, so why not go to the Great Lake for now? That wasn't one of Swan's favourite pastimes, but it was a good place to relax. And a good place to run into someone who had problems with various things, like crushes and bullies.

Drawing closer, she heard a voice. Isn't that Ginny? Why is she here out alone? Another Hufflepuff, a stranger to Swan, was also listening to Ginny's song. Strange. And I thought I was the one who was going to be alone here. But Swan didn't have any serious problem right now, and she was worried about Ginny.

That song...isn't that "Angel of the Morning"? There might be only one reason, given the situation, that Ginny was singing that alone here. There may be other reasons too, but Swan felt like the most relevant one had something to do with.....romance. Yes, romance. Swan wasn't the best when it came to romance, but maybe she could help her get over what happened with them. Maybe she saw him with another girl? Maybe she confessed, and he rejected? Anyway, getting closer and closer, Swan decided it was time to find out.

"Uh, hi Ginny! Sorry to interrupt your singing, but what are you doing here all alone?"

Ginny hurriedly turned around upon hearing Swan's voice, her heart beating fast. She was not afraid, of course, but naturally she was surprised. Well, it was still very early and the day was Saturday, so Ginny had assumed that everybody else would still be in bed and that she would be alone. Moreover, she was alone just moments ago and now she was not!

"Oh, it's you, Swan. You surprised me!" Ginny tried to laugh but failed. Thus, she gave her friend a smile, without realising that sadness still dwell in her brown eyes. And then she looked at Marian, too. Ginny also saw her when turning her head upon hearing Swan's calling. Both Marian and Ginny were Hufflepuffs, and the girls knew each other, though not very well due to their different years. But anyway, Ginny greeted her just like she had greeted the Ravenclaw. "Morning, Marian! I'm sorry I didn't notice you earlier. Guess I was too busy singing!"

She wanted the other girls to feel comfortable around each other, so she introduced Marian to Swan and vice versa. "Marian, I'd like you to meet Swan. She's a first year Ravenclaw." And then, "Swan, this is Marian. Marian is in Hufflepuff and this is her second year at Hogwarts."

Ginny did not realise that she had not answer Swan's question, which meant she had not mentioned her crush-problem either. What in her head was simply a decision that perhaps it would be better not to say anything about that problem until one of them asked. Something she forgot that Swan had done!

"Oh, it's you, Swan. You surprised me!" Ginny was trying to make everything seem like there was no problem, she never sang the song, just nothing happened at all, and Swan and the other girls were just having their brains or eyes play tricks on them. But that wasn't fooling Swan. The sadness was still evident in her eyes, and her laugh was more of a sad chuckle. Still, she wanted to help. But what if Ginny was too shy or scared to open up? What if she was too sensitive about it? What if she didn't want to talk? Anyway, whether Ginny liked it or not, Swan was going to at least try to talk to her.

Ginny introduced the other Hufflepuff as Marian. After a quick exchange of greetings, Swan realized Ginny still hadn't answered her question. Problem 1, Observation 1: Ginny seems like she is trying to distract us from everything that happened. Maybe it is about her crush. Swan wasn't a detective, but she was one when she saw people all alone, seemingly thinking about personal matters. So now it was time to voice out her thoughts.

"Ginny, I know you're trying to hide your problem, but that won't help it, either. Sometimes, it's best to have someone listen to your problems so you can get through the challenges of life. Without communication, mankind will become an island, and society may not even exist. Mankind is a social being. No man can survive being an island, isolated with absolutely no help from anyone other than themselves. So Ginny, please, open up. I promise we aren't going to make fun of it."

Now, it was time to see if Ginny wanted to say it or not.

Swan had noticed something was amiss and expressed her concerns to Ginny. For some reasons, this made Ginny glad and, at the same time, start crying. Perhaps she cried tears of relief that she had true friends who genuinely cared. Or perhaps she sobbed because she remembered the "horrifying" stargazing scene all over again. But whatever the reason, Ginny still could not comprehend it; at least not now. She only knew that she was crying.

And that she was ready to tell both Marian and Swan about her problem.

"Well," she sniffed and took out her handkerchief. "It is not a big problem, really. At least, not that big. It's just that... I am crushing on someone. But he does not even seem to notice me! In fact, it's very clear that he likes someone else..."

Before too long, she had spilled it all: about how she first saw this secret crush of hers, the stargazing scene, and even a little about the girl who stargazed with the mystery crush. Well, not all, but most of it. Ginny saved some details such as the boy's appearance, his name, and also the stargazing girl's identity.

"I will not have a chance 'competing' with her," said Ginny gloomily. "She's not only pretty but also friendly. I'm just a shy, awkward bookworm."

So Swan's instincts were right. It was about a crush. And, Ginny had seen her crush stargazing with someone else last night. She honestly had a feeling she knew who the boy was, but she decided not to say anything about it until Ginny confirmed. But maybe she was too scared to even give a hint about their identities. Well, it was for their sake, but of course nobody wants someone to spill the name of their crush to the whole school. Swan didn't have a crush right now, but even she wouldn't want that. Unless, you're looking for public attention.

Of course, Ginny thought there was no way she could compete with another, more popular Housemate. But there was hope for Ginny. She just needed to get stronger, become braver, no, not really copy the stargazing girl, just try to act like her, but no so much people will think you're a copycat...Ting! Swan had an idea.

"Ginny, I have an idea. Why don't you try to get over your shyness and awkwardness? It's actually not that hard to find a good friend here. And try to socialise more. It will really help. I'm not saying you have to be popular, just saying that with that kind of attitude, maybe he'll notice you."

This girl... knew her? Sure, Marian had seen this girl, Ginny, around, but when another girl, a Ravenclaw walks into the "conversation", they start openly talking about Ginny's crush. Who does that? Well now Marian had to stay in the conversation. She was the oldest, by the looks of it, and most mature, by the looks of it, so she couldn't just walk away. But Marian was confused how the Hufflepuff knew her name? Was she famous? Marian secretly hoped so.

"I'm sorry, do I know you- either of you?" Marian asked. They definitely knew each other, so Marian felt left out. They were talking about a crush, which was a thing Marian had felt before, and figured she'd feel sometime again. She never had her heart broken, the crush, he just... faded away.

Marian secretly thought that anyone who could resist this girl, a beautiful singer, and not notice her, was not someone to waste your time on, but Marian kept her thoughts to herself. To be honest, she really wanted to know who the crush was, but she didn't know this girl well enough to ask. Still, Marian was taken aback by the sudden hoard of information thrown upon her.

Ginny looked at Marian first, and decided to reply her before coming back to Swan. The reason was, well, that it would be easier to answer Marian's question. And because it would take a smaller amount of time.

"Well, I... I know that we have never really chatted with each other. It just that I happened to hear about you from another housemate," she told Marian. Wait, would Marian accuse her of eavesdropping or what? Or would she be concerned that Ginny heard something negative about her, something bad that a housemate gossip about her? (Ginny certainly hoped she would not. She heard about Marian as a good student, anyway and honestly.)

Next, she turned back to Swan, a fellow first year. "Um... thank you very much for your suggestion, Swan," she began. "But I wonder... could you please advise on how I can come over shyness? Or how to find more good friends?"

After that, Ginny was not sure if she should add more questions. It did not seem appropriate for her to ask so many questions at one time; besides, she had already sounded pessimistic, at least to her own opinion. Taking a breath, she waited for the other girls to respond.
