Hufflepuff table - 1st September, 2024
It didn't come to her surprise that Linnéa was sorted into Hufflepuff. Since she'd grown up in Sweden, her family didn't have a 'signature' house. She'd be the first to be sorted in her family. But with the conclusion in hand, anyone who knew her would say that it was the perfect house for her. She was loyal, friendly and a bit all over the place. Sometimes it did feel like she didn't quite fit in among the rest, which I suppose made her the perfect candidate of the house of the Badger. Of course, she'd been a little bit disappointed when the two funny, albeit immature, boys she'd talked to during the train ride got sorted into Gryffindor together. It would have been nice to have joined with some people she were familiar with already, but it didn't mean she couldn't talk to somone in another house.

Upon second glance, the hufflepuff table did seem to be the friendliest table. Linnéa had glanced over at the Slytherin table once, locked eyes with an older guy, and gotten all embarrassed when he'd flashed her a smile that could be described as anything but genuine. It had, in her eyes, looked a bit scary. Wide-eyed and awkward, she'd darted her gaze elsewhere, finding comfort in the warm smiles of her new house mates instead.

No, she was happy to sit by the Hufflepuff table, where everyone seemed genuinely happy to get another student, and welcomed her with real smiles. She didn't yet know any of them, but hopefully she would soon.

Picking a spot at random, she ended up on the opposite side of another first year. She knew so because she'd watched him get sorted just a few minutes ago. He looked friendly and cute. Linnéa glanced over the table and smiled sweetly at him. "Hi! I'm Linnéa. Guess we're both new here, huh?" Her tone was warm, and easy-going now that the initial nerves had started to disappear.

"Were you hoping for Hufflepuff, or did the Sorting Hat surprise you?"

Cirrus felt as if he was in an alternate dimension everything was nothing like he had ever seen before. Not only had he made his departure from home earlier today, after passing through a faux wall, but he rode on the Hogwarts express. It was like something out of a fairytale, Cirrus had not many other wizards or witches yet. Because he was too timid to speak up, and he was to busy enjoying the experience and surrealism of it all. It was only when they had arrived and he saw the towering vastness that was Hogwarts that he realized he wasn't dreaming but this was his reality. There were students from all nationalities, hundreds if not thousands of new and even older students. All the new years fathered within the middle and a intimidating tall man in a large armor chest-plate stood up silencing the crowd. Although the man was friendly and welcoming as he spoke his cold blue eyes remained piercing, and dead. He noticed as he walked up to podium, he walked with a subtle limp, the man then spoke in a powerful voice:
"Welcome first year students. I am Solomon Lear, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As it is our tradition here we are going to engage in our first ceremony known as the sorting ceremony. The sorting hat has been a part of our school's tradition since the time of Godric Gryffindor, one of this institution's founding wizards. This hat is very much sentient."
"Sentient? I am intelligent," an old rusty voice drifted across the room, Cirrus's mouth hung agape when he watch an old worn-out hat with wrinkles and folds that resembled a face waddled it's way to everyone's view. Hats can talk? The hat and the man shared a hardy laugh as others rolled their eyes, Cirrus couldn't help but smile. It was a heart-warming exchange in his eyes, a joke between old friends. The man, who Cirrus now knew as Headmaster Solomon Lear, begun to explain all the events that would follow and a brief summary of the history of Hogwarts and it's four houses. The hat was placed on a stool and begun to sing.
" A thousand years or more ago
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of
Whose names are still well known:

Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.

For were their such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor.
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

United by a common goal,
They had the selfsame yearning
To make the world's best magic school
And pass along their learning.

Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones, they had to teach.

While still alive they did divide
Their favorites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When were they dead and gone?

Twas Gryffindor who found the way,
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!

Now slip me snug about your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your mind
And tell where you belong!

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've got a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends. "

Everyone applauded and Cirrus didn't hesitate to clap along with a grin. Then began the long grueling hours of every individual student being called up to be sorted by the house, some were immediate whilst others took a couple extra minutes. As the minutes ticked away, Cirrus became more and more anxious, I have to go up in front of all the people? He clapped along at every applaud, Cirrus practically jumped when he heard his name called out.
"CIRRUS NAM!"
Cirrus straightened his back and feigned confidence as he walked up to the hat, he walked with dignity and grace most would never know his palms were sweating from nerves. He knew that no one would probably even remember him as he was just another face in the crowd.
Cirrus greeted the hat quickly before sitting, the hat had only hovered over his head when it yelled loud and clear.
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
Cirrus let a sheepish smile crawl across his porcelain face as the table adorned with yellow and badgers abrupted in cheers.
Cirrus looked around, his mouth watering from the delicious foods available for the students, he licked his lips before grabbing a plate of steamed broccoli. Cirrus was a vegetarian due to his high allergy of eggs, and although this seemed like a feast of dreams it could also become quickly a nightmare if he wasn't careful. The coffee haired boy had only stuck his fork in his second clove of broccoli when a voice sliced through the air clear as day.
Cirrus just let out a small sneeze of laugh, it was funny icebreaker because it was obvious they were both new and had just been sorted. At her next question, he just gave a small shrug, as he didn't have any particular house he wanted, he didn't even know what they even were before this very day.
"Um. A dont know whit tae expect, whit aboot ye?"1 Cirrus said with a friendly smile before sticking a chunk of broccoli in his mouth. He observed the girl for a second, her hair were like waves of a golden beach, her eyes a icy blue, she looked kind due to her soft features. It made Cirrus a little more comfortable, as he flashed back a smile of his own.

Linnéa tilted her head slightly as she listened, a small smile tugging at her lips. She wondered what kind of accent he had when he spoke. Whatever it was, she hadn't heard it before--- not completely unexpectedly, since she hadn't been to many places except the immediate surroundings of London, and her old town in Sweden. The girl decided that she liked it even if it sounded different.

“I didn't know either,” she admitted, absentmindedly twirling a strand of her golden hair around her finger. “I mean, I know about the houses, but it’s hard to tell what it’ll actually be like. I think hufflepuff sounded nice from what I'd heard. They--- we're supposed to be kind people and loyal, so I guess I'm happy about it.”

She glanced down at her plate and then the dinner options around the table, filling her plate up with a piece of roast potato with her fork. “But I think it’ll be fun… hopefully.” She took an experimental taste of the food.

"So, you didn't know anything about Hogwarts before today?" Linnéa wondered, assuming he must be muggle-born, or perhaps a half-blood. As a pureblood witch, she was pretty familiar with the house concepts, even if she'd never been here before.
