The weekends, the perfect day to go out to Hogsmeade, or of course practice Quidditch. It was a slightly windy afternoon here at Hogwarts, and big piles of snow started to slowly melt away from the grounds. Andy took a school broom from a rack, and put on his Quidditch uniform. On the back it said,

Loggins
34
Ravenclaw
Quickly, the boy pushed off the ground and soared off with his broom. He did his practice routine: Fly around the training pitch 3 times, and practice throwing the Quaffle high into the air and try to catch it. Why? You might ask Andy was wasting his time on lousy warm ups, well, because he has a more skilled keeper coming to teach him moves. The starting keeper for the Quidditch team! While Andy was the benched keeper, it will be great to learn a few moves before any other games start, especially since Andy might be playing in future games. It will be such a good oppurtunity to learn from the starting keeper! Thought Andy, as he finished up his warm up routine.

It was finally the weekend. And it had been an insanely long week for Charlie, so she had decided to go out and practice Quidditch, her most favorite thing in the world. Charlie made her way out of the castle and over to the broom shed to grab her silver arrow, her most prized possession. A few weeks ago just after their Quidditch game Charlie had talked to their benched keeper who was interested in doing some training with her. He was a few years younger than her, and even though Charlie was fairly new to being a keeper herself, she didn’t have the heart to tell the boy no, so she agreed. Now, making her way to the Quidditch pitch through the slightly damp grass, she was second guessing her decision to help the boy. She had no clue what she was going to teach this boy especially since at practice she mostly did whatever the captains told her to do.

When Charlie made it to the pitch and spotted the boy, she walked out onto the field and mounted her broom taking to the sky. She met up with the boy who had been flying around the pitch in laps and throwing the ball up into the air and doing his best to catch it. It was a warm up routine of sorts, but what keeper needed to quickly fly across the pitch? “Hey there… Andy, right? I’m Charlie. Ready to get started? I can teach you my warm up routine if you would like? I have only been a keeper for about 2ish years now, and first string for even less time.” After the words flowed out of her mouth, Charlie began to regret telling him the short amount of time she had actually been doing this for. “First up I like to pass the quaffle back and forth between the hoops with another person. Would you like to try that?” She asked, gesturing towards the shiny gold hoops at one end of the pitch.

Finally, the keeper arrived, asking if Andy and her would like to pass the quaffle between the hoops, which Andy would really want to do. He took the quaffle and threw it gently to Charlie.
Well, let's get this drill started! Said the boy getting into his position. Thank god that Quidditch is played in the air, since the grass is pretty damp and muddy, so falling in the grass will be a disaster for you AND you're clothes. But, there is always a chance that you will be knocked off your broom, especially with a school broom like Andy's. It is indeed not bad, but it is hard to control when the wind picks up. Andy claims that it gets a little wobbly once in a while, but that is only what he says... The Scottish lad set his focus back to the drill. Here, throw the Quaffle. Said Andy trying his best not to sound mean. If Charlie throws the ball, Andy will do the drill like usual, if she doesn't, Any will ask to move to another drill. As he waited for the ball to come to him [or end up in his face] he admired the afternoon view the the Quidditch training grounds. They where a bit more calmer that the field. The seats where reduced and the locker rooms looked smaller, but that is not that big of a minus. Then, he set his mind back to the drill.

The two Ravenclaws began their Quidditch drills. Andy made his way into position, and Charlie went to the other side of the golden hoop. Charlie could tell that the boy was not interested in conversation, he just wanted to work, and Charlie respected that. She was okay with not chatting about school, or life and just doing their drills in silence. After a couple of minutes went by of just passing the ball back and forth through the hoops Charlie decided that it was time for them to move on from to the next drill.

“Okay Andy. You are doing great, and I think it is time for us to move on. Before I forget to tell you, here is another drill I do all the time not on the pitch. I take a small ball, preferably something bouncy like a tennis ball, and throw it at a wall and do my best to move fast enough to catch it. That really helps with speed and reaction timing. We are gonna do the in the air version of that, sound alright? I will demonstrate it so it makes sense.” Charlie said, then began to line herself up for the next drill. She had moved back, about 20 ft away from the hoops, holding their quaffle. She began to speak again, but at a louder volume this time, “Okay! I’m gonna throw this in different directions and you are going to grab the ball if you can. If it doesn’t work to grab it, then kick, bump or shove it out of the way. And don’t be afraid to let it hit you. It might leave a slight bruise but nothing like the blungers! Ready to start?” When Andy was ready, they began the drill.

The boy listened to the girl who was explaining the drill. It indeed did sound complicated, but there is always a chance that it is NOT. Andy Got ready to start the drill. The ball flew across the pitch and Andy lunged with his broom for the ball. He got closer and closer until he finally kicked away towards the girl to try another time. He felt a lot faster on the broom than he did before; he seemed to take more control of it. School brooms are really not that bad... he thought as he flew back to the girl. How about I try throwing it and you try to catch it? Said Andy as he got into the position to throw. With all of his might, he threw the ball across the field. Whether the girl will catch the ball or not, that was a good throw. This was only the first practice the Scottish lad ever did, and it. was still fun. The late winter air blew in the face of the boy, but the sun shined brighter. The weather is perfect. Or should I say WAS perfect. A couple rain drops hit Andy's skin. That was bad. Do you think that we can keep practicing? Andy asked the girl.

The two began the drill. Andy caught most of the throws, even though a few of them barely made it into his arms. With each throw, Andy continued to get better and more confident in his catches. Charlie was happy to see this almost instant progress. Charlie could also tell that Andy was getting more and more comfortable on his broom. She knew that more drills like these would help Andy continue to get better.“Nice work Andy! I can see that you are getting better and I think, actually I know that you will continue to get better the more practice you do. I’m out here most days after some of my classes, so shoot me an owl if you ever want to practice together outside of classes.”

Andy asked if she wanted to try the drill and Charlie agreed. “Yes, that sounds good. Feel free to throw it at any of the hoops for a little challenge.” Once she agreed, Andy went farther and farther back, and Charlie wanted to tell him to come closer so it would be easier for him to throw it, but she kept her mouth shut and did not say anything. Andy finally threw the ball and Charlie dove to catch it. She almost missed and the ball fumbled slightly, but she was quick to adjust her grip.

After a couple of throws it began to rain. Andy asked if they could continue to practice and Charlie said “I mean… we probably could? I don’t know, what do you think?

Charlie seemed to be getting the hang of the throwing drill too, but of course a day in the middle of winter can't exactly be perfect. the rain pulled in and it started off with a normal drizzle, but then grew into more of a rainy weather. Too confused to weather to stay at the pitch or to leave, but Charlie seemed confused too. After a couple seconds of deciding and thinking, Andy made the desision to stay, since Quidditch is a hard sport witch needs hard training. Let's keep going. Weather is not a excuse for Quidditch! Andy chuckled. He sounded like a captain from a military. Lets do a drill where we set up wooden dummies on the floor and try to fly by them without falling of our broom. And believe me, falling off into the mud is not a great idea. Andy set up the drill in a couple minutes going back and fourth between the sports lockers and the pitch, and finally when the drill was ready, Andy did a demonstration. Let's first go slowly dodging the dummies and pick up the pace as we move on! The boy said, preforming well on the demonstration. Well, what are you waiting for, Charlie? Let's get this drill started! Said Andy. This will be fun... He thought.

It began to drizzle. It was Scotland after all, where rain and heavy weather was common. Normally Charlie didn't mind the weather, but sometimes she wished that she went do a different school, one in a warmer place, but the good thing about Hogwarts is that the sun wasn't out much. Charlie hated the sun, her skin was extremely sensitive, which was part of the reason that her favorite season was winter.

Charlie had asked Andy if he wanted to continue, and after an awkward moment, he said yes. Luckily, Charlie was already wearing her wind breaker, which kept the wind and the rain off her body. She threw up the hood and decided to cinch the strings, as the rain got heavier and she wanted to go inside.

Andy wanted to do a drill where they would set up dummies and weave through them. The first though Charlie had when she heard what he said, was we're not chasers or beaters or seekers? So why the heck are we doing this? Charlie decided to keep her mouth shut and just go with it. She let him set up the drill while she inspected her broom, making sure the rain wasn't ruining it some how. She attempted to wipe some of the rain off with no resuts. She then realized that Andy was ready and when he asked why she was waiting, very impatiently, she might add, she shouted "Coming!" as she grabbed her broom and took off. She let Andy go first, and only went through a couple times before she decided to tell him that it was not helpful for the keepers at all. "Andy, this drill isn't very helpful for us keepers. Do you want to go back to the other drill where I throw the ball at you like a chaser and you try and grab it? It is all wet now so the ball is slippery, making it harder to grab. They don't stop the games for rain, so the weather could actually be like that in real life." Charlie waited for his response, hoping he was ready to move on.

While Andy was setting up the drill, he had a thought that it would not be helpful for keepers, but it would for the other three positions. The rain was both good and bad. It was wet and cold, but it was also a hard condition in a Quidditch game since they will not cancel a game just because of rain. Ok, let's go back to the other drill, it might be more challenging though. How about I throw the ball first. Andy swirled the ball on one finger and aimed to throw it across the field. Ok, get ready, Charlie... Go! Andy yanked the ball as hard as he could across the field, so far to the point that it was barely visible to the naked eye through the fog building up from the rain. The rain made the skies darker too, and for some reason the rain made Andy think about hot chocolate and coziness... He felt a drop of sweat [or a rain droplet, at this point, nobody knows] drip down his head. He watched as the ball flew up, then started to decelerate and go down. Let's hope that Charlie catches the ball, because if not, then we will have to scrub mud off of it... wait... that might be a detention punishment... I should tell that to the headmaster... Andy but his mind back in the game. The rain will not stop the boy from having a good training session... and a nice cup of butter beer afterwards...

When Andy finally agreed to go back to the first drill, they made their way on to the field which was so muddy, Charlie only took a few steps before mounting her broom and taking off. She had hoped to avoid destroying her already trashed shoes any further, but they were so beat up and scuffed that it was no use. Andy suggested that Charlie should go first, and she agreed. She watched Andy back so far that she couldn’t even see him through the heavy downpour. Charlie waited for what felt like forever, watching the clouds four the quaffle. When it finally came flying in her direction she dove for it, catching the slippery plastic ball. The ball would never had made it through the hoops, it was over to the side and too low. This proved a point, Andy would make a terrible Chaser. He was small and couldn’t bump the bigger players back but also having weak arm strength… yeah not a good look for a chaser. When Charlie had the ball, she flew it back to Andy and they repeated the drill a few times.

When Charlie had enough of the throws that no chaser would ever make, she suggested that he could take a turn. If he accepted, they would switch places and Charlie would be a little bit closer than he had been and throw much harder to simulate what a real chaser would throw at him.
