January was a proving to be quite the treacherous time for those residing in the Hogwarts castle. While winter break had finally concluded, an unsympathetic cold was still baring hard on the Scotland highlands. The snow had yet to melt away, making room for the horrid spring weather—ugly verdant valleys replacing the barren grounds. Anyone with half a brain would choose to remain inside the castle walls, shielding themselves from the cold with wooly jumpers and thick blankets.

Unfortunately, Hana had a full brain. A full, extremely stubborn, brain.

The winter solstice was never the kindest to the Bakir daughter—her body strangely susceptible to the diseases the weather brought forth. The youngest would patronizingly pat her on the head and proclaim it were due to her horrible eating habits. Which she did not! Unlike the pack of animals claiming to be her brothers, she had a more sensible pallet. A pallet only consisting of the most delectable foods, such as unripe kiwi and watermelon rinds.

But, no matter. Due to a hapless promise to her cousin via letter, weekly archery practices had snuck their way into her schedule. Every Saturday the Bakir would venture to an obscured locations on the Hogwarts grounds, and spend a couple hours practicing her form.

Her schedule was something that Hana meticulously crafted and strictly adhered to—she was not one to let a chill breeze, or the runny nose that had mysteriously appeared, disrupt it. Now, if she prepared accordingly, Hana would finally fend off the yearly sickness that plagued her during wintertide. Her normal heeled shoes were exchanged for thick boots. Long fingers dressed with soft, fur gloves. Her thickest pair of tights were equipped underneath her puffed-up petticoat, along with layering three of her warmest blouses atop each other. Finally, a fuzzy pair of black earmuffs, gifted by her mother, were aptly placed on her ears to protect them from the highland chill.

The sun was hidden among thick clouds, but light still managed to filter through. It were ample light to ensure Hana didn't accidentally shoot another's eye out. Getting expelled would be quite a bothersome affair. With a bow slung on her back, Hana swiftly but stiffly made her way down the path. Small huffs of determination would leave her nose periodically as the girl forced one foot in front of the other. She wasn't cold. Despite how much she shivered and sniffled, she wasn't cold. Weaving through stripped oak trees, Hana moved to a more obscure part on the grounds—a place where she could practice without disruption.

Widespread trees soon began to hunch closer together, concealing the Bakir daughter from view. Making her way through the pseudo-forest, Hana scrutinized the bare bark of the trees, as if they could speak. Hm, what would she ask if they were sentient? Even if the trees held any sentience, what sort of opinions would they hold? They merely stood at the edge of the grounds, a place rarely occupied by Hogwarts students. The young Bakir emitted a small hum, making note to jot down the query in her next letter home; surely, her father would jovially entertain such an idea.

Hana soon approached a wide oak tree, tilting her head slightly as she attempted to assess the bark. Grabbing an arrow, she slammed the tip against the bark. Repeatedly. A satisfactory huff left her stuffy nose, the young girl deeming the tree worthy enough to receive her arrow. Taking a few steps back, Hana took the bow in her left hand, holding the arrow in her right. She cleared her throat, sniffling slightly as she readied into the proper stance.

That morning, Novalie was out wandering the grounds, just like usual.
She was the type who wouldn’t stay indoors for too long. It didn’t matter if it was awfully hot, storming or if a volcano decided to erupt - one would still find Novalie outside, bouncing around like an excited puppy on it's first walk in the park.
Today, she had climbed one of the big oak trees around Hogwarts to hang out with her spider pet, Caviar.
It was January, so naturally the tree was still bare, its branches however were a tangled mess that made it hard to see if anyone was up there. Not that it mattered much anyway - the girl knew from experience that these trees were empty most of the times, except for the occasional bird’s nest or a curious squirrel. Today was no different.

After a while of playing with Caviar in her hands, Novalie started to feel tired. It wasn’t Caviar’s fault - of course it wasn't, as slow as he crawled he couldn't be described as very hyper - the reason was rather that she’d stayed up way too late the night before. Sneaking out of the dorm to go on her self made mission and stuff. There was always something Novalie could come up with.
And thus, before she knew it, she’d started to doze off, sprawled on one of the thicker branches, while Caviar busied himself spinning a black web right above her head.

- Knock .. knock knock .. -

“Huh..?”
What woke her was a strange sound? A rhythmic tapping, if one could call it that.
Her emerald eyes fluttered open slowly, and for a second, the Metamorphmagus had no idea where she was. The world looked blurry, somewhat hazy, causing her to forget that she wasn’t in her bed. That very split of a second of confusion was all it took - Novalie shifted slightly and suddenly fell!
“Wah-!”, the Ravenclaw gasped, instinctively bracing herself for the impact!
But instead of hitting the ground, her right foot got abruptly caught between two branches, leaving her dangling upside down. Her arms hung limply, fingers pointing toward the ground, while her left leg bent a little to the side. In this position, the redhead resembled a weird, real-life version of the Hanged Man Tarot card.

It took her a second to realize she wasn’t on the ground. She blinked a few times, still half-asleep before she saw her.
A girl, standing merely a few inches below, dressed in this incredible outfit that looked like it belonged to a different universe! It was a mix of medieval and Japanese Lolita style - or at least, in Novalies point of view - all elegant with that petticoat and intricate detail. But what really caught her attention was the bow the other girl carried around.
Wait - was that real?
“Sick!”, Novalie blurted out, being instantly fully awake now, “Is that real? Are you, like, a hunter or something?”
Her mind was already racing with what they could do with it! After all - a girl with a bow? How cool was that?!
Had the stranger already shot at the tree? Novalie quickly turned her head at the trunk, looking for an arrow, but sadly, didn’t see one. Then.. what about the sound from before? Ah - whatever!
Her eyes snapped back to the dark-haired warrior princess and a grin spread across her face.
“Hold up, I’ve got an idea!”, Novalie started swinging from side to side as best as she could, laughing, “Can you try aiming at me? I'm a moving target!”
