Terror in Hogsmeade, Uncertainty in Harvey

It was free time between the end of classes and dinner service and Harvey had found himself back in the library again. However, this was not to squeeze in a bit of extra study as he often would before the final meal of the day, but sprawled out before him were a couple copies of the Daily Prophet. Specifically the editions from October and November of last year that covered the terrorist attack in Hogsmeade. Harvey had of course heard of the tragedy just like every other person at Hogwarts, yet something about it still nagged away at him and drove him back to reread the articles again and again. First had come the shock of such a loss of life. Then the outrage at those responsible for the deaths of so many people. The part-goblin had a questionable sense of morality, but even he would never condone murder for the advancement of ones agenda. Real change came through the consolidation of power. Connections had to be made. Individuals of high social standings needed to be placed in positions of influence. This was all just the boy repeating what he had been taught by his grandfather, but the ideas were beginning to take root.
The one thing that was still clawing at his mind was the group being accused of the attack, SCAR. An organization that was supposedly formed to seek equal rights and opportunity for half-breeds and squibs alike. A worthy cause for sure, but they had long been accused of violent tactics which Harvey could not justify. However, the clashing of ideas gripping the magical community had left him feeling confused on his own standing within society. On one hand he was raised by a pure blooded Goblin that believed his race was superior to wizard kind. On the other he often read of those among wizards who believed that they were the purest form and that they should rule by some almost divine right. Then there were of course those that thought all of this was rubbish and that all beings in the magical world were equals. Yet it did not escape the boy that people like himself weren't even permitted to attend Hogwarts until 2018 and that the other schools were just recently following suit. Why would they deny people like him for so long if the majority of the community did not agree they should be denied? Were they afraid of their potential...
Movement by his side temporarily distracted Harvey as another approached the table. He would look up and give a courteous nod before returning his gaze to the papers before him.

I hoped squeeze in some time for reading about quidditch. After my game I realised that I needed to learn much more about. The sport was more than just a couple of players chasing around a couple of balls. After almost getting my head taken off by a bludger, I feel that it would a be a good opportunity for me to learn. I grabbed a book about Quidditch and looked for a seat. My eyes settled on one beside a boy with jet black hair swept back who was reading I assume daily prophet papers.
I approached him and he game me a nod and I returned it with a small smile.
"Evenin." I murmured.
I returned my gaze back to my quidditch book. After reading a few things about quidditch tactics through the ages and some fascinating tips to improve positioning, I started to get a bit restless. Reading is not really my thing. I'm just here to improve my quidditch. The boy beside me was still deep in thought reading some papers from last year...
I scanned the page and my eyes fell upon a destroyed and charred carriage. The Hogsmeade attack last year. The boy was staring at it without emotion and it worried me a little. The news on the Daily Prophet weren't exactly good news. I waved my hand in front of his eyes.

Harvey was lost in thought as he stared at the magical image on the front page of the Prophet. The flames danced across the picture of the charred carriages as he imagined what it must have been like to be there. The hysteria and confusion that they must have felt in the moment as they took in what had happened around them. Only for the crushing realization that people were injured or killed to flatten them like a boulder. A part of him wondered what he would have done in such a moment while another thanked Merlin he was no where near the scene. Yet the fact that SCAR was being accused of the act would not stop nagging at him.
Just then a hand waved in front of his face. First his dark, beady eyes would squint in anger as the boy next to him had interrupted his thoughts for no damn good reason. Harvey's words of reprimand were just on the tip of his tongue, yet he bit them back as in truth he was glad for the break. He had a tendency to get lost in dark thoughts for sometimes hours on end and having someone to ground him was often helpful. "Yes, I'm fine." Harvey answered as he blinked hard and cleared his mind. "I've just been having a hard time fully accepting these reports on the tragedy in Hogsmeade." His long fingers gestured towards the article. "Have you read these? They are accusing SCAR of the attacks. Have your heard of that group?"

As I waved my hand in front of him, the boy turned and squinted at me. "Yes, I'm fine." the boy answered as he blinked hard. "I've just been having a hard time fully accepting these reports on the tragedy in Hogsmeade." His long fingers gestured towards the article. "Have you read these? They are accusing SCAR of the attacks. Have your heard of that group?"
The attack on Hogsmeade was... something. A terrorist attack some called it. SCAR consisted of a group of squibs and half-breeds or so said the Daily Prophet. Did they do this? For what, revenge? If so revenge for what? There were lots of unanswered questions about it and I preferred to stay away. Aurors have started investigating but have found nothing.
"Yeah I have. It caused quite a stir here didn't it?"
Lots of students from other Magic Schools died in that tragedy. Including some headmasters or the schools. SCAR was also a valid suspect. There had been lots of reports of protests against half-breeds by the daily prophet. I have noticed that the magical community still had big problems with race and blood. It's unbelievable that some wizards consider themselves superior to muggles when they can't even solve these problems.
"SCAR is a group of Half-breeds and squibs right? If their goal is to get the community to respect them, they're not doing a good job of convincing them right now." I continued. After I said that I realized that I had basically condemned SCAR to the attack which is not true. Well, not confirmed by anyone.

Quite a stir was a mild way of putting it, but how else to you describe something like that? When Harvey first heard of the attack it had sent a wave of terror up his spine unlike anything he had ever felt before. People like himself were specifically targeted and the thought that something like that could easily happen again left him unsettled. The boy was often quite stoic for his age, but he was having a hard time shaking these troubling thoughts.
"Yes." Harvey addressed the other boys question. "I believe they were founded to advocate for the rights of half-breeds and squibs, but it makes no sense they would do this, right?" He couldn't help but to question the rationale. A group that wanted to further the rights of a certain people then attack that same group of people? It had been reported that they had been involved in violent attack before, so was this just an accident? Perhaps some mix up in communication that had them target the wrong people? Or was it something else entirely. "Why attack your own? Do you think it could have been a setup? You're right that this would only damage their reputation further and ostracize their own people." It was the only thing that was making any sense to Harvey.
