Mysterious Potion

Something strange has been happening as of late. Interns and of course the new school nurse Bessie Barnes would be seeing a sudden influx of students bearing a strange array of symptoms. The scleras were darkened. Some of the children were arriving catatonic, a gaze fixed, reportedly found in a puddle of inky black vomit.
Bessie might not recognize the symptoms immediately. This particular series of symptoms had not been seen for the better part of two decades. She would have been a young lady herself when she first saw this, so the interns would be left without guidance.
There might be other students who were not in such a profound state of distress, they were not vomiting nor were they catatonic. The whites of their eyes did not have the expected ivory sheen, they seemed a bit dull, greyish even. But that was unlikely what drove them to the medical wing. It was likely the persistent sense of sadness, the inability to concentrate, this mental fog that pervaded. The symptoms overall would be vague, easily summarized as psychosomatic with the exception of their eyes which could be seen as a 'trick of the light.' Of course there was a craving for the bliss they had, but how would they explain that to an intern, prefect or even an adult.
Children partaking in strange potions now suffering ill-intended effects.
