San had yelled the first thing that had come to her mind and since she herself had no offensive spells, yet it was not something that she thought of. The fox bounded at her as she scrambled backward refusing to let go of her prize. When the fox leaped at her she raised her arm to protect her face and throat, but Dale’s voice called out as he cast, a blue spark collided with the fox sending it careening away from her just in the knick of time. She saw Dale make his way to check on the fox as she allowed herself to lay flat on the ground closing her eyes to concentrate inwards. Forcing herself to regulate her breathing taking long deep breaths in through the nose and out through her mouth.

Eventually, her heart slowed back to a regular rhythm, adrenaline edging away, and her breathing was back under control. “We… Should probably put her and the rabbit by her den.” She said slowly standing up trying to avoid a head rush as she walked over to the box she had set down on the ground by her bag. “Dale you were amazing!” she exclaimed as she put the fox bedding into the small wooden box, she had brought for it. “Like seriously amazing! Thank you for literally saving my skin.” It was stated with deep sincerity and she had a new-found respect for Dale. She started to pack the little box back into her bag as she looked up at him. “Look, I know the plan was to do another trial tonight… but I want to be honest with you. After all of this… It seems like a bit much just to study and research magic that they don’t teach us here…” San had started to become skeptical about the entire situation the during the day but being put through this situation really sealed the deal for her.

“Dale… You seem to know them better than I do. What kind of potion are these ingredients even for? A human bone in a potion is something that ought not to be played with like a child’s toy. I need you to be honest with me Dale. Do you truly think that it’s worth it? Or would we be better off getting to know the right people on our own to learn the things we want to learn? Think about it… why would an 11-year-old be deriving us to possibly drink a potion like this?  If she is truly demanding this much just to prove loyalty that’s some next-level Voldemort kind of crap.” She wasn’t afraid to say it because from what she read and what she was told by her family members that lived through the war some of them even having gone to school with him… Wasn’t this how things like that always started? She wanted to walk away from all of this, and she needed Dale who seemed to be more on the inside to give her the reason to. He was her friend and now her closest confidant. She trusted him above anyone else and if he could honestly look her in the eyes and tell her that this was all worth it in the end then she would believe him.

Dale was recovering from the shock of what he had just done, he had never cast a spell out of class before, it was pure luck that Dale hit the fox, and if he was even a second too late and Santario would have been badly hurt.

As he finished checking on the fox, Dale saw Santario lying on the grass, it would the adrenaline was probably too much for her, he himself would like that if was almost mauled by a fox. He himself sat next to the fox and closed his eyes to try to calm himself down by taking a few deep breaths. He opened his eyes as he heard Santario's voice, as she was getting home she suggested putting the Fox back to its den, Dale nodded in agreement. She told him that he did great and thanked him for saving her skin, "It was probably just luck, ill never be able to cast that spell ever again." Dale said lightheartedly with a smile, he wanted to make the atmosphere a little less tense.

Dale was a bit too worn out, he was going to tell Santario that he wouldn't be able to help with the second task, but as he opened was about to talk, Santario had stated something Dale was thinking from the first time he heard about these tasks. She was having doubts about the entire thing, "I-I honestly have no idea what this potion is." Dale said with a sigh, "I agree its a bit strange that she would have us do such a dangerous thing just to try to learn about magic." Santario had also asked him if he thought it was worth it, She had said something about "Voldemort kind of crap" he knew very little about the tale of Voldemort and Harry Potter, but he knew that it was very bad. But Dale did have to agree, she was a first year for god's sake, she barely knew any spells, yet savannah expected her to get something from high in the sky and something where she might have gotten badly hurt. A little anger came to Dale as he thought that some of his friends might have to go through these dangerous trials. But he calmed himself down and said "While I know very little about Voldermort, I know enough to agree with you, I mean you could've gotten seriously hurt." Dale looked into Santarios eyes and said, "I really can't justify risking getting hurt just to follow someone you don't know." Dale didn't know Savavvah that well, they had really only talked once, and it was a very short conversation, not much even then, he hadn't known about the inner circle until it was announced. He hoped the rest of the people in the trials weren't hurt.

“Don’t sell yourself so short.” Often enough wizards and witches performed their best under immense pressure. Maybe now that he knew how it felt to cast the spell so perfectly it would be easier to cast in the future almost like muscle memory. She felt like Dale would be one of those wizards capable of performing when it counted the most. As Dale admitted he knew very little about Voldemort he still agreed with her which was all she needed to hear. It spoke volumes that he too was having doubts even though being much closer to the people who were in the group than she herself was.

“I agree, the end doesn’t justify the means anymore. It isn’t worth it… Your life isn’t worth it.” They both could have gotten seriously hurt and San almost really did. “I am sorry I put you through this just to make the decision to walk away from it. I hope you are not too cross with me, but I think we should just make our way back to the common room and go to bed and let this rest. I won’t be pursuing this any further on any level with this group. I feel like I can learn what I want to learn without all of this theatrical smoke and mirrors and more importantly without putting anyone I care about in danger.” Dale was her first real friend so of course, she cared about his well being. She may have questioned herself a little in that department before, but she had nothing to base it off of before. Now she knew that if she could help it she would not wish to endanger the lives of the people she cared about.

She would make sure that she had all of her things and wait for Dale to be ready before heading back to the castle. If there were no delays she would find her way back to the common room quietly say goodnight to Dale if he had come back with her,  and head off to her bed.
