Watching as Avis carefully redid some of her drawing, Cassandra could already see an improvement from what she could see. The switch of topics also seemed to have helped relax her partner slightly or at least she hoped it had as Avis said that perhaps they should play Exploding Snap at some point.

Personally, Cassandra preferred to keep her eyebrows intact and couldn't help but wonder why people would play a game where things actually exploded. Then again, maybe the game was fun enough that a little exploding or loss of eyebrows was worth it. She didn't particularly think so but would withhold her judgment until she actually played or watched someone play the game.

"Yes, perhaps you can teach me how to play. Although I would prefer to keep my eyebrows if possible," she responded, watching as Avis turned the redone drawing towards her so that she could get a proper look.

It was definitely a vast improvement from what the Ravenclaw had originally drawn. Everything was proportioned in a way that made sense and the leaves were much less bulbous than they had originally been. The drawing might not have been the pinnacle of art and certainly wasn't going to be winning any competitions for the most accurate depiction of a Shrivelfig but one couldn't certainly make out what it was suppose to be.

"It looks like a Shrivelfig to me, good job," she answered, doing her best to give a smile of encouragement and a thumbs up. "If you want you can go back over the lines you're happy with in pen and then erase the rest of the pencil so that it looks a bit cleaner but other than that I'd say it looks good."

Avis couldn’t help but chuckle at Cassandra’s mention of clearly wanting to keep her eyebrows. It was a fair assessment of the game but she would get her to play somehow.

As she watched the girl study her revised drawing, she wrung her hands together nervously, hoping it would pass assessment and the other Ravenclaw wouldn’t think her a complete failure.

When the girl gave her a tentative thumbs up, Avis breathed a sigh of relief. This wasn’t necessary for an art class but their Herbology professor at least had to tell what plant it was she was actually drawing… and also that it was a plant.

“You’re the artist so I’m sure if you think it looks like one, our professor will too,” she said, with a twinge of anxiety.

Curiously, she selected a pen from her tutor’s collection and started going back over the lines. She’d never have thought of going back over her drawing with another drawing utensil but to be honest, it was already looking much better. Taking the eraser, she began rubbing out the extra lines that hadn’t made the cut. As Avis was doing so, a thought popped into her head.

“So who taught you to draw and… when did you start?” she asked, finishing up her final edits.

Cassandra watched as Avis followed her advice and began to go over her drawing with pen, she began to do the same to her own drawing, quite happy with how it had turned out. As she erased the pencil lines she looked down happily at her picture. It wasn't a necessary step but she believed that it made drawings look much cleaner and gave them a bit of a pop. Plus, when she generally drew, when it came to coloring, not having the pencil smudge into the colored pencils made for much nicer drawings.

As she finished, she heard Avis ask who had taught her how to draw, and when she had started to which she had to stop and think for a moment. She wasn't really sure when she had first started drawing, all she remembered was that she had been fairly young.

In all honesty, she had probably been drawing as soon as she could pick up a drawing utensil. As for who taught her, she didn't really think anyone had taught her exactly. All her drawing skills had mainly come from books and trial and error.

"Well I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, I'm pretty sure I started as soon as I could hold and maneuver a pencil or drawing utensil," she answered, looking up at Avis as she finished the last few details of her drawing. "As for who taught me... I think I mainly taught myself. My parents encouraged me of course and would buy me how to draw books and I would watch videos and things for more information but other than that it was mainly through a lot of trial and error. I still have plenty to learn as well."

“Merlin I wish I started on something creative when I was little. Might’ve been a bit less hopeless at art,” Avis replied with a light laugh, glancing down at her drawing. It really wasn’t half bad but in comparison to Cassandra’s simple yet detailed masterpiece, it looked like chicken scratch.

At the second half of the girl’s explanation, Avis cocked her head curiously. She knew ‘video’ was a Muggle concept, having something to do with the ‘internet’ but she had no clue what exactly it was. One of her more recent favorite hobbies was asking her Muggle-born friends about the world they’d grown up in and she supposed this was the prime opportunity, having already been pestering her introvert partner a myriad of questions. Why stop now?

“Hopefully I can get at least a bit better with some trial and error,” Avis said wrinkling her nose. “Also, what exactly is ‘video’? I’be heard of it before but, well, both my parents are wizards so…” she trailed off with a sheepish expression and a curious look at Cassandra. Another thought entered her brain as they finished.

“That’s it for the project, yeah?” she confirmed, holding up her drawing once more.

Personally, Cassandra thought that Avis wasn't half bad at drawing. Sure her drawing hadn't bee the most magnificent thing ever but she believed that with some instruction she would pick things up pretty quickly. Afterall, she had only given the other Ravenclaw some basic instruction and she seemed to pick it all up pretty quickly which was pretty impressive for someone who proclaimed they were "hopeless at art."

As she went to speak, Avis spoke and asked what a video was. which made her pause as she thought about the best way to explain. She supposed she shouldn't be surprised to meet someone who didn't know what a video was, there were plenty of students who had never really interacted with "Muggle" technology or the world, a fact she still found odd but wasn't going to judge too harshly. "Well... a video is basically just a bunch of moving pictures put together in a continuous sequence. Sometimes in real time like a live video but most of the time it's been put together previously so that people can broadcast them so that people can watch them again and again." She wasn't exactly sure how to explain but she figured her explanation wasn't to far off, "It's sort of like how the pictures in the paper move but for longer periods of time generally."

Looking over at the picture in Avis's hands and then looking down at her own she nodded her head when Avis asked if their project was complete, "Yes, I believe that is it for our project."

Avis nodded along as Cassandra explained the concept of a video. She'd recently been overly fascinated by Muggle technology seeing as it really was just a sort of magic in its own form. Avis had lived alongside Muggles her entire life but was only just now getting curious about their world, what with all her new classmates that possessed such knowledge. It was annoying to be ignorant about things that were common to so many so the girl had forced to herself to grow past her pride and ask as many questions as she could whilst she’d been attending Hogwarts.

Cassandra’s explanation was very enlightening despite her use of words such as "live" and "broadcast" which Avis made a note to ask someone about later. The concept of prolonged moving pictures actually made a lot of sense and Avis was starting to realize what Muggles were doing all day on those tiny rectangular devices they called "cell phones". She sighed and leaned her chin against her palm, sagging against the table.

"Wizards truly are living in ancient history. How is it that we've discovered how to teleport and Merlin, even change into animals but we have nothing that could possibly compare to a ‘video’?” the girl grumbled in an incredulous tone. "I suppose I'll never know."

Moments later, Avis had stuffed her notes and quills back into her satchel and was gazing down at her new creation with a distracted half smile. She’d come out of this study session with much more knowledge than she’d bargained for and the curious girl was glad for it.

"Well, thank you for all your tips, Cassandra. I do hope we get paired together again,” the Ravenclaw said a polite smile. "See you around!"

With that, Avis shouldered her satchel and burst out of the study room wondering how she was going to fill the rest of her Saturday.

Agreeing with Avis as she said how wizards were basically living in "ancient history," Cassandra couldn't help but think how truly odd it was that the magical world seemed so far behind when it came to modern technology. It wasn't like they had never used modern technology, the pen at one point was considered the most modern form of technology. At one point, the wizarding community must of decided to stop keeping up with the current technology which was odd.

Before Cassandra could think more about the subject however, Avis broke her line of though as wished her goodbye. "It was a pleasure working with you, I shall also see you around," she responded, waving slightly as she watched her fellow Ravenclaw leave.

She quickly began gathering her own things, making sure to carefully put her drawing away for class later. Once everything was put away, she carefully swung her book back over her shoulder and began to make her way out of the study room and to wherever she decided to go next. She hadn't been super excited about the project earlier but she had come away quite happy with her drawing as well as with a brand new acquaintance. Overall, it had been quite a good day.
