The bell has rung, indicating that it's lunchtime. Students streamed in the corridors after the bell, crowding the hall with laughter and arm-to-arm walks with their peers. Being that someone has thrown a large dungbomb for a prank earlier that morning in the other end of the hallway (“disgusting, what the fuck?” one Gryffindor student complained as the terrible smell of something rotten wafted through the corridors. “ooh, that's one hell of a punch,” a Hufflepuff commented, pertaining to the putrid odour as he pinched his nose), the other staircase down towards the Grand Staircase is now jam-packed with students eager to fill their stomachs with dishes served in the Great Hall. Not Aurelia though, as she was busy assessing her leather satchel in front of the large kaleidoscopic windows.

This Hufflepuff witch had just attended her Transfiguration class. The lessons are becoming harder each week, but nothing too serious, as some of the lessons mentioned by Professor Perceval-Phelan, especially the usual science part, had been taught in muggle primary school. She can actually say that she was keeping up, as she was never late in her assigned readings, and she is originally a diligent student. The problem is not with the Transfiguration class she had just attended; it is the fact that a classmate commented on how her leather satchel looked like it was about to explode. Aurelia glared at him for the unwanted implication; if she wanted an opinion, she would have asked him personally; however, after the bell rang, she hurriedly checked her leather satchel.

Her leather satchel now has a crack on the bottom, threatening to spill whatever she had inside. An explosion is such an exaggeration, Aurelia thought reproachfully, her nimble fingers tracing the large crack. She can understand how it looked like it was bulging compared to everybody else's. However, this satchel had only been used for approximately four months, not a year, and she wondered if this is an issue that should be addressed to the manufacturers. Of course, it is not. It happens with the way Aurelia packs her academic materials.

Aurelia Valentine disliked disorganisation. The young badger believes it is something that should be frowned upon. She always makes it a point to organise everything if ever she could. She is not obsessed, but she couldn't deny how it bothers her severely. In Potions class, she organises her things over the long table. She lines everything symmetrically and perfectly down to the last bit. Even her desk in her usual classes; the textbook on her left, the quills and the inkwells, as well as assorted muggle ballpoint pens on the top left, her small notebook for to-do lists on the top right side of the desk, and importantly, her scrolled parchments in front of her, rolled and unrolled alike, dominating her desk. It doesn't have to be symmetrical; it's just routinely assorted like that. She believes that it not only satisfies the heart, but it is also practical.

She realised that in order to fetch her things from her dormitory room, she had to climb a gazillion flights of stairs that not only moved but bore certain traps. Unnecessary and such an interference, if anyone bothers to hear her opinion. The only solution to avoid coming up and down the stairs is to cram all of her materials necessary for academic work inside her leather satchel. One can imagine that it is, indeed, bulging, as not only does she carry her school textbooks, but the tomes and books she checked out from the Hogwarts Library are crammed in there too. The legal book involving trials surrounding house-elves, the encyclopaedia of magical creatures, everything she figured she wants to write an article about. Her leather satchel perhaps detested the fact and is about to call it a day just to give her a lesson; “just endure those flight of stairs, girl!”

No, you can survive this, trust, Aurelia thought, attempting to convince herself. The young badger patted the large crack at the bottom before slinging the strap over her shoulder and attempting to rise to her feet. Her shoulder protested with a faint crack, but she was determined to push through. As she walked sideways because of the sudden weight of the leather satchel provides, she found herself on the verge of colliding with the wall. Bracing herself, she raised her hands to push it off, but the wall unexpectedly gave way, sending her tumbling forward. She landed on the stony, dusty floor, her leather satchel cushioning the impact. She also heard the impact of the tomes hitting the floors and a loud tearing sound. Which she guessed was her leather satchel.

Not minding the fact that she probably came across a secret passageway, Aurelia frantically checked her leather satchel, and there it was, spilling all its contents. The culprit? That stupid fall and perhaps the copy of Magical Beasts: Because Normal Pets Are So Last Season she checked out from the Library also supported the cause. She sighed heavily, thanking Merlin as her inkwells weren't shattered in the impact. Still on the floor, she squinted her deep brown eyes to focus her vision. This is not a secret passageway; this is a broom cupboard. Little to no light here too, with several school brooms standing haphazardly in the corner as well as cleaning products. Picking up the copy of The Enchanted Encyclopedia of Magical Beasts she also borrowed from the Library, she cracked it open before involuntarily squeezing her eyes shut. The author of this book did not warn its readers that the pages are enchanted to slightly illuminate for no apparent reason. Not bothering to stand up, she tried to light up the cupboard with the book. Nothing too important to note, except the fact that it is incredibly dusty and cramped.

What is she going to do now? These tomes are heavy to carry, along with several scrolls of parchment, her textbooks, quills and inkwells as well as muggle ballpoint pens, and can you believe that the Secret History of Donna Tartt is there too? Aurelia was adamant on refusing to take flights of stairs that the whole contents of her trunk must be in there too. Of course not, mentioned only to exaggerate her situation. Huffing in frustration from this predicament, Aurelia buried her face in one of the tomes entitled Ways to Domesticate Unusual Creatures That Are Not Found Near Your Home, also checked out from the library, her tousled curls spreading on her things. Perhaps she should expect the prospect of living in this broom cupboard forever.

Avery didn't know what she was going to do with her day. Actually, wandering the corridors and exploring is the only thing she had on her agenda. It was just one of those days. A day that was boring. Secretly, Avery hoped maybe something would happen. Then maybe she could finally get out of her trance.

Suddenly, she heard a crash and the sound of something ripping. She froze for a moment. Unsure of what just happened. Before she had any time to think about her options of what she could do, the Gryffindor in her began to run to where the sound had come from. She finally came to a stop in the middle of the corridor where she though she had heard the noise.

"Hello? Is anyone here?" Avery called out to the empty hallway.

She knew she had heard something. She wasn't hearing things. Right?

Avery continued to search the area. Running her hand against the wall for no apparent reason. She was trying to find the source of the crashing noise. Whoever or whatever it was couldn't have gone far. Unless it was just a ghost. Maybe it was just a ghost and I heard them causing a ruckus. Well, I might as well stick around anyway. Maybe someone will come that may have seen what happened.

Avis was out of breath, sweaty, tired and hungry and none of those particular situations mixed well for most people. The Ravenclaw was no different. She’d practically fought her way up through the hordes of students rushing down the staircases for lunch and although she desperately wanted to turn tail and join them, Avis needed to get this Transfiguration assignment in before it could be considered late. She’d already been given enough leniency when she showed up to class yesterday without the assignment and the girl wasn’t about to find out if the professor had any more mercy left to give by waiting another day.

Taking a quick breather at the top of the staircase, she shouldered her satchel and marched forward, eyebrows furrowed and an almost visible storm cloud floating over her head. The girl was so upset, in fact, that she walked right past a familiar student who’d help her with a missing textbook last term. Her only thoughts were on the nuisance of the task at hand. If she missed lunch for this…

But Avis luckily did not get the opportunity to finish that thought, her head swiveling hard to her right as she walked past a crumbling opening in Hogwarts’ ancient walls. Taking a slow step backwards and peering inside, Avis surveyed the dusty, old and now exposed broom closet. A dark haired girl surrounded by a librarian’s worst nightmare lay on the old stone reading a well used copy of Ways to Domesticate Unusual Creatures That Are Not Found Near Your Home, her curls spread out beneath her as if she’d fallen and hadn’t moved since. The Ravenclaw cocked her head, watching the girl read for a moment before opening her mouth and closing it abruptly, seemingly at a complete loss for words. Whatever could she be reading that particular book for? And how had she ended up falling through a broom closet wall? And why was she in possession of half the library and some funny looking writing utensils that were most definitely not quills?

With all these questions crowding her head, all Avis managed to get out was, “Pet shopping?

“A NEW HOME FOR AURELIA... A DUSTY BROOM CUPBOARD”

A muffled voice can be heard outside, but Aurelia did not bother calling it back. If there is something more humiliating than a bulging and cracked leather satchel, it is the unfamiliarity of the castle and accidentally pushing open a wretched, dusty broom cupboard. Perhaps she should rewrite her prospects... Instead of becoming an Unspeakable in a foreseeable future, she should consider becoming a cupboard mouse. She should order furniture if her mother, Cordelia, permits. Make it comfortable to her preference. The young Hufflepuff let out a frustrated whimper against her open copy of Ways to Domesticate Unusual Creatures That Are Not Found Near Your Home, her unruly curls spread unceremoniously.

Aurelia jumped from her seat when the dusty wall suddenly opened, the stream of light immediately decorating the insides of the closet. Squinting her deep brown eyes, she looked up to see a Ravenclaw girl peeking through the doorway crack. Her mouth slightly agape that someone had found her inside, humiliation and shame surged through her entire being, her body giving an evident, involuntary shiver. Dust from the act of opening the closet flew everywhere, which made her sneeze three times. The young badger waited for another one, to no avail. That can't be an odd number; perhaps she missed one. Her eyes already watering from the sneeze as if possessed by a sneezing hex, she lifted her gaze when the Ravenclaw spoke. Something about pet shopping? She did not understand the implication.

“Whatever in Helga's name do you mean?” Aurelia automatically snapped, frowning slightly as her delicate face reddened. As though realising that she was sitting on a dusty closet floor, she shot up, dusting her otherwise perfectly pressed Hufflepuff robes. Exuding a slight sense of self-importance, she let out a haughty huff before hastily picking up her things. Her leather satchel is ripped open, and she did not know how to bring those library books along with her academic materials by herself, but she was rather charged with humiliation that perhaps she could also bring the castle itself by hand.

Avery whipped around when she heard a familiar voice fill the hallway. She remembered hearing that voice before when she had returned a book to that girl. It was a girl Avery knew as a fellow A.G.. Avery walked over to where the other girl was to see what she was looking at,

Avery was surprised to find a girl with a bulging book bag sitting on the floor. She looked slightly disheveled as if she had fallen and not cared about getting up. "Are you okay?" Avery asked as she extended her hand. Hoping that she wasn't intruding upon the girl. She wanted to help since it seemed that her bag was quite full. Avery wondered if she also loved reading.

Avery hoped that the other girl enjoyed reading because she didn't really know anyone that loved reading as much as her. Besides her bestie, Lya. Besides Lya, Avery didn't really know anyone that was very passionate about reading.

Avery was also curious about why her fellow A.G. was here. She was surprised that she didn't even hear the other girl enter the corridor. Usually, Avery was quick to know if someone else was with her, but this time was different. It was probably because she had been so caught up in her family's problems that she hadn't been able to focus as much.

Bless you… bless you… Merlin! Bless you again,” Avis repeated when the girl on the ground seemed to have inhaled the dust swirling around them.

Eyes watering, the girl’s cheeks flushed with what Avis could only guess as embarrassment seeing as she’d been found lying on the floor of a broom closet with no implication as to how she’d gotten there.

Her next accusation made Avis’ eyebrows furrow in confusion. Helga? Shaking her head, Avis gestured at the girl’s strange choice of reading.

Reading up on domesticating unusual creatures would imply you’re looking for, well, an unusual creature to domesticate,” Avis explained, crossing her arms at the Hufflepuff’s haughty tone.

Soon enough, she was back on her feet and hastily gathering her things. Avis raised an eyebrow at the torn leather satchel and the amount of books the girl was carrying. Slowly, things were starting to come together.

Before she could elaborate on that thought, however, a voice behind her made her jump and Avis turned to see the Gryffindor that had helped her find a lost textbook the previous term. A.G.

She watched as Avery offered the Hufflepuff a hand and Avis snorted, still a bit miffed by the girl’s self righteous attitude.

Don’t worry. I think she might be trying to train an animal to carry her things,” the Ravenclaw said, sarcasm evident in her tone.

They will not leave unless Aurelia provides a logical explanation of why she was sprawled over the dusty stone floors of the hidden broom closet—only an assumption of hers, of course. For some reason, people are such gossipmongers about businesses they are not involved in, perhaps an attempt to make everything about themselves or an attempt to make one feel better about their flawed character. This type of thinking, she is aware, is a pessimistic view towards people, especially strangers. Casting the Ravenclaw girl and one Gryffindor accusatory, piercing looks, she hurriedly picked up all of her possessions from the floor, giving them no mind as though they had not appeared at all to interrogate her like they had rights to do so.

Unlike this nosy Ravenclaw, the Gryffindor girl stayed behind with an inquisitive look in her clear eyes. She must be curious of this weird spectacle in front of her, a Hufflepuff girl speckled with dust; possessions and library books scattered haphazardly on the ground; sneezing as though possessed with dust flying around freely, her fault for disturbing their peace. The young badger has never seen her before, never caught a glimpse of her, despite the fact that the girl was incredibly and remarkably pretty, a type of person who would inherently stand out within the crowd. She noticed these things, of course, as that is what it does for teenage girls who are typically conscious of their looks.

The aforementioned Ravenclaw has a flair of directness in her. Her aquamarine-coloured eyes have a glint of demand that swirls in them, in which Aurelia automatically supposes that it adds up to her brash nature—only in her opinion, of course. This is also proven to be true in her perspective, such a brash answer to her agreeably snappish question, her stance a response to her haughty tone. This automatically translated into offense, which she regarded as a threat to the mask she always wear, the falsified confidence to appear she was better compared to everyone else that surrounds her, to appear she was mighty and would not crumble down in any form of threat. A formidable opponent, she regarded, which caused a slight tremor to the very core of her foundation.

"Well, your assumption is wrong. You should be aware of the fact that not everything cannot be concluded as something simply because of how it appears to be on the surface," replied Aurelia with a hint of bite in the intonation of her voice, overly bothered by the dust decorating her hands as soon as she stacked the books carefully, now all dusted over just like all of her possessions scattered around. Letting out a sigh, she retrieved her black walnut wand from within her wild, long curls, the gesture releasing all raven coils kept in a bun before it puffed out unceremoniously. What a tedious job it would be to clean the dust off her things one by one. "One cannot be assumed a mechanic only because they are holding a screwdriver. However, you do you; if that is the way of your thinking, who am I to change that for you?"

Where is this hostility coming from?

The young badger cannot accept the possibility of a stranger witnessing her state of vulnerability. Witnessed and found in a situation where she inevitably needs to ask for someone's help when she heavily relied on her long streak of independence. In what way would she be able able to bring these tomes that perhaps weigh more compared to her overall weight? Merlin and Helga forbade she be found in this kind of situation, but here she is. Driving them both away from here and the solitude it will provide would perhaps force the gears of her mind to work, to procure something clever and efficient to bring them all in one go towards the Hufflepuff Cellar and eventually, the private quarters of Badger Bungalow. What a terrible day to be prideful, where asking for help is perceived as weakness, and this perception is causing her to miss lunch, in all actuality.

With all of her kindness that swirls in her heart, faux or not, the Gryffindor girl offered her hand. It automatically garnered a quirk of an eyebrow before the offer was immediately ignored. She is not an invalid; she can do this alone. A snarky remark came from the Ravenclaw girl, which earned a slight huff from her, her nostrils flared in offence. How ridiculous of a response is that? "Excuse me? I believe that domesticating unusual creatures—especially those that are meant to stay in the wild—is abuse. Or perhaps you are projecting? You should know that is punishable by law." Flicking her black walnut wand with such unhurried grace, she cast a Scouring Charm on Ways to Domesticate Unusual Creatures That Are Not Found Near Your Home, checking this tome out of the Hogwarts Library purely for research. It made others think she was domesticating magical creatures.

Whatever, she does not have to explain herself to the likes of her or to anyone, for that matter. Let everyone think she was domesticating unusual creatures as though she was about to start a rebellion against the Wizarding World and its olden ways with the creatures as her little army. When is she conforming, especially to the structure society built for whatever they perceived as right and normal? The normality they desire is questionable all in all because it is not unity when one sector is being discriminated against. The young badger does not want to participate in conforming to barbaric rules that seem illogical to her.

Of course, the young badger should give the British Ministry of Magic a kind of merit for their empathy for magical creatures across the magical realm; the laws in this department are remarkably progressing from time to time, shaped into something far better than the previous ones that were issued in the past years. They are attentive in this aspect; nonetheless, she cannot say the same towards discrimination against beings that are initially shunned from society. Turning a blind eye is not equal to losing one's hearing; this issue cannot simply be ignored when they are all screaming for justice.

A defeated sigh inevitably escaped her lips, scratching her eyebrow with a dismayed expression on her face as she assessed her current situation. She ought to accept she needs help or else her schedule will be all jumbled and will ruin the rest of her otherwise pretty normal and studious kind of day. Ignoring the presence of a certain Ravenclaw girl, she turned her head towards the pretty Gryffindor before her instead, a glint og pleading expression that swirls in her deep brown eyes. "I would appreciate your help if you would kindly help me bring my things to the Hufflepuff Cellar, this little setback here will make me miss lunch and will ruin my supposed schedule for the day." Picking up her small dusted notebook, the raven-haired badger waved the open page to her. "It is all right if you do not wish to, I know it is quite easy to be influenced by the darkness that inevitably surrounds us." Added Aurelia with a poetic hint in her voice, eyeing the Ravenclaw girl with an accusatory glance.

Avery watched speechless as Avis and the other girl bantered back and forth. It was almost funny to her. It reminded her of the times she used to banter with her muggle friend about. . . well, things. Usually it was a random muggle thing Avery had never heard about that her friend was sure Avery knew about. Usually those banters ended up in laughter, but Avery sensed that this wasn't going to be a simple banter. She just hoped she wouldn't have to break up a fight. Fights never solved anything.

Avery nodded and knelt down to help grab books when the Hufflepuff asked. She had nothing better to do, so why not lend a helping hand? Avery always loved helping, so why not help and possibly make a new friend in the process? Killing two birds with one stone had never been easier as Avery grabbed the books and carefully dusted them off. Avery smiled. The girl liked reading. Just like her. Maybe they would become friends after all.

"Do you like reading too?" Avery asked as she grabbed a couple more books and prepared to stand.

As Avery waited for her to respond, she carefully stood up. Making sure to not accidentally drop any of the books. For one, that would hurt a lot. Especially if it fell on her foot. For two, it would hurt her heart to see such beautiful and amazing books crash to the ground and possibly get damaged.

Avis couldn't help but roll her eyes, although the strange raven-haired Hufflepuff did have a point, however annoying it might be to admit. The Ravenclaw did tend to jump immediately to asking questions as her curiosity was not only a strong suit but a persistent annoyance at times.

"Just an attempt at logic," she muttered in response, frowning slightly.

She looked down as the girl attempted to pat dust off her clothes and hair. She felt a pang of sympathy but kept her face stonily disinterested, which was quite opposite to her actions. In truth, Avis was desperately wondering what exactly the girl was reading that book for as well as how a Hogwarts wall had simply collapsed from the weight of a small girl and a horrendous stack of books.

The Hufflepuff's next string of words caught her off-guard. The audacity, truly, was staggering. She huffed, resisting the urge to march off right then and there. She simply had to discover this girl's purpose and the reason for the wall's weakness. Her curiosity was sickening sometimes and the girl's refusal to answer any questions was simply egging it on.

"I suppose you would know, seeing as you're reading a book on it. If you aren't domesticating a certainly unwilling magical creature, why are you reading that particular book?" she asked, her eyes narrowing. Her eyelids lowered further when she noted the girl's flippant dismissal of Avery's helpful hand.

She managed to struggle to her feet on her own and ended up imploring the Gryffindor for help, who kindly assisted and even asked a friendly question. Avis felt a slight throb of guilt tighten her throat. She'd been so distracted by her questions that she hadn't even offered the least bit of assistance.

She sighed and walked over to the two girls, tentatively picking up a book or two, although she was being blatantly ignored. Fair, she supposed. There were barely just too many for the two to carry on their own, especially with the Hufflepuff's bag quite broken, so she supposed the girl couldn't complain if the Ravenclaw resigned to help. Avis glanced back at the wall she'd stumbled into, thinking aloud.

"How do you suppose the wall caved in so easily? Think this space leads somewhere?" she questioned, peaking into the gloom beyond the mess of brick and dust.
