The last day of 2024. This morning Sere Nade came out of the castle wearing an ivory wool sweater, dark-brown trousers, and a red knitted scarf under her winter cloak. The winter break is over next week and the atmosphere of Hogwarts will be busy again as usual, as it should be. Students will come bringing various things, various stories to tell. In fact, Sere is used to the crowded atmosphere of this boarding schools. The busy but warm atmosphere, she likes it. She is no longer a girl who is comfortable with her solitude. Slowly, she realized that the presence of people is giving colors to her life.

Sere's feet stepped on the Grounds covered in white snow, the footprints of her boots were clearly visible. Before thinking too much about what will happened next week, the Gryffindor girl should decide what kind of activity she would do today, on the 'still quiet day' at Hogwarts. Not seeing anyone on the vast Grounds, Sere bring herself to sit under one of the trees in the corner of the Grounds. Her legs crossed, her eyes staring at the reflections of the sun making the snow look like dazzling diamonds.

Sere’s ungloved right hand reflexively compacted the snow beside her, then the girl threw the snowball to the random direction. Umm.. What am I going to do today?” Once again her right hand compacted the snow and threw it forward, the girl’s expression looked bored, “I’ve spent too much time locking myself in my room and reading. I shouldn't do that today.” Sere straightened her legs, her right hand -again- made another solid snowball, then brought it in front of her face, “Huft.” Sere exhaled and once again threw the snowball to the random direction.

Chewing her lip thoughtfully, Aurelia ambulated aimlessly in the Hogwarts Grounds. She locked herself in the castle for almost a month, mourning the fact that she didn't come home during the holidays. She had now forgiven her mother from, for her, a sort of neglect after receiving a new and packaged Secret History by Donna Tartt for Christmas. This young badger busied herself in reading that particular book and after finishing it, decided to contemplate the ending on her own by walking around the snowy grounds.

It had been a day like this too, when Henry Winter eventually pushed Bunny Corcoran into the ravine caused by fear that the latter had the power to expose their crimes, the seal of his mouth in exchange of paying for his supposed lavish lifestyle. However, even with this method to shut Bunny up, Bunny’s mental health deteriorated; owing to the fact that he couldn't bear to hide the information that Henry, Francis, Charles, and Camilla murdered an innocent farmer. He's already a blab too, so Henry had to convince the whole group to push Bunny off the cliff. As her winter boots crunched the compact snow underneath her feet, she remembered the passage where it is stated that they couldn't find Bunny’s corpse because of the snow covering him.

What a brilliant book. Donna Tart, you've done it again.

She let out a huff, her breath visible in the wintry as she wrapped her Hufflepuff scarf around her neck more securely than before. It is extremely cold; what with the slow, precipitating snow making itself felt. The young Hufflepuff witch was snapped out of her thoughts whenever she remembered, commenting on the weather over and over again. The sun almost never visited the Scottish Highlands, and her winter cloak over her layered knitted sweaters somehow doesn't cut it. Sporting a knitted dark green hat and mittens protecting her hands from the cold, Aurelia continued her ambulation.

The snowy pathways are connected to each other, her deep brown eyes focused on it; as every tree represented her thoughts on the book, also connected to each other like strings, every step that her winter boots left encompassing the departments of her mind already done assessing a simple thought and moving to the next one. She compartmentalised her thoughts thoroughly and with such organised finesse that when a snowball hit her right on the face, her brain convinced herself that it was all a hallucination and she should get back on thinking.

Except the event was real, and the immediate and unforgiving cold smack her right out of her mind. “Ow,” she said, rubbing her face off of the compact snowball. That hurt! If that's what it felt like to be hit by a brick on the face, it's no wonder why one’s face morphed to another shape. It doesn't hurt that much though and she was simply exaggerating. Mumbling to herself angrily, she also brushed off the snow that stuck to her wiry curls. They are wet now, and in winter, it is difficult to dry her tangled hair.

Immediately looking for the culprit—or someone to blame, for that matter—Aurelia’s eyes scoured the area and as if a hawk was eyeing and chasing its prey, the young badger zeroed in on the girl not far away from her spot, sporting an ivory white sweater. She wasn't that noticeable with her wardrobe choice if not for her scarf, her sweater blending in on the dirty snow and her trousers camouflaging themselves on the trees.

“What is wrong with you?” Aurelia asked reproachfully, her deep brown eyes flashing slightly in irritation. “Can't you be careful? You don't own the damn place; stop throwing snowballs aimlessly. It should be common sense that you are not the only one walking around here.” Until a thought occurred that this girl might be aiming for her. Quirking an eyebrow, the young Hufflepuff witch gave her a quick look over, throwing off judgemental and suspicious looks.

Sere regained her senses, lifting her head when she heard someone grumbling just a few distance away from her, facing at her. Huh? What happened to that girl? Having a bad day? Sere looked left and right to find out who the target of the deep brown-eyed girl's grumbling was. Strange, there was no one within the girl's scope but herse--- Wait a minute, what was she grumbling about? Snowball?

Sere widened her eyes as she realized something and immediately tried to stand up, but too quickly, "I'm sorr--- Whoa!" Her body staggered backwards and her back hit the tree behind her pretty hard, "Oh my God, it hurts!" But that didn't stop there. The tree dropped the snow on its branches down, created a sudden local snowfall for the people under the tree. Sere's hair became wet, damp because the snowflakes meeting her body heat made it immediately melted. "Ssssshhh..." Sere hissed with her right hand trying to touch the painful point on her back and her left hand going up to sweep the snow off her hair.

The Gryffindor girl finally managed to stand up after tried again carefully, looked at the girl her age whose... umm... curly hair was also got some drop of the snow that fell from the tree above them, "H-hi..." Sere waved awkwardly, "I'm sorry about the snow on your hair, and... also the snowball earlier. I didn't know that it hit you. There's no way I threw it on purpose," The girl tried to defend herself, ducking and compacting the snow -again- into a snowball. "even my accuracy is bad at aiming at someone!" Sere threw the snowball towards the girl with Hufflepuff scarf, intending to make the snowball miss to the girl's left.

However... Holy crap!

The ball hit her left shoulder instead. Sere bit her lip, "Oh, no no no! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean it for this one either..." Sere swallowed her saliva and stepped aside, away from the girl, ready to run if she intended to make a revenge against the unintentional accident that Sere did twice. You should've aimed correctly at her left side! How could your accuracy actually be so bad today, Sere? Oh come on, you're a duellist!

HEADLINES:
STUPID SNOWBALLS RAINING DOWN ON AURELIA'S PARADE
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
??????
Today is the end of the year. It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, although it is kind of impossible since she would have preferred to spend it with her mother back in Croydon. She spent it on thinking instead, currently unenthusiastic about socialising with anyone, so she took it upon herself to walk around in the Hogwarts grounds. It is winter; however, sunlight streamed in like flowing waterfalls, highlighting the fog that floated around the tall oak trees. An event that rarely occurs in the Scottish Highlands, as even in spring the fog and greyish clouds overhead obscure the warmth the star is supposed to provide in that type of weather. This is why you can rarely see flowers all around.

This is not how December 31st is supposed to go. The Gryffindor in front of her hastily attempted to stand up, her back hitting the oak tree behind her. She inherently wished it was all a dream, as the collected snow resting on the small branches of the said tree suddenly dropped down on them like a heavy, collected bucket of rain. Aurelia gasped and shivered as the unexpected feeling of coldness ran down from her head down to her toe. Merlin, her wiry curls are sopping wet. Her deep brown eyes flashed in anger as soon as the young witch made her hasty and apparently useless apology. They are wet; there's no going around it.

Aurelia decided that she should be the bigger person. It has always been like this; whenever her mum acts so childish with her sometimes, picking fights for no apparent reason, or her classmates bullying her for being inherently weird as her magic already manifested earlier than expected and somehow still uncontrolled, she always walks away with her head held up high, her Mary Janes producing a clicking sound with her purposeful stride. One can appear to be victorious if one believes they won the round. In this case, Aurelia believes that maturity and kindness overturn all. The young badger would have loved to personally smack the girl to drill some sense, of course, but she decided against it. No use crying over spilt potions or storm in a teacup.

The young Hufflepuff witch only rolled her eyes at the girls with her apology before whirling around to walk away while she was talking. When suddenly, another snowball struck her on her shoulder. That's it; she is now convinced that the Gryffindor girl must be doing it on purpose. Her winter cloak, as well as her layered sweaters, immediately seeped in the moistness of the snowball, making her shiver. Turning around slowly with her teeth gritted, she assessed the girl, her repeated and constant apology gone unheard.

She had never participated in a snowball fight before. She always stayed in the house back in Croydon; if she had the time, she would look out from her window, observing the kids outside having snowball fights. She figured that it was intrinsically childish and somewhat dangerous for unknown reasons. Plus, she never had friends, and that might be her fault, as she never attempted to befriend the kids she shared the same age with within the neighbourhood. Well, she heavily disliked the fact that adults always treated her like one, that she could not manage an intelligent and deep conversation, that she was perceived as someone that should be playing outside. She did not like being underestimated; she supposed that associating with kids meant she would be treated like a child.

But whatever came in her entire being, it was only revenge that fuelled her. Ducking, Aurelia picked up snow and compacted it into a ball like a woman possessed. She did not waste time as she threw it in a projectile motion, hitting the Gryffindor girl squarely on her chest. Oh, she is not done, as she immediately picked up another, already moulding it into a ball. She deeply regretted not buying the enchanted snowball sold in the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, as if she did, she would've thrown it at her and eventually run away.

"Hey! I said I'm sorry!" Sere exclaimed as a snowball made by her interlocutors hit her chest squarely and then shattered back to regular snow piling up on the ground. "Don't you believe that I really have no intention to--- Whoa whoa! Hold on!" The alarm in Sere's head ringing. The girl stepped further away and then turned around before running as fast as she could, covering her head to protect it from the snowball thrown by the Badger.

"You're scary!" Sere glanced back occasionally and shouted, hoping the girl would hear her voice, "At least say something before your revenge!" The Hufflepuff girl only showed annoyed expression before sent back the snowballs that Sere had accidentally threw. Sere didn't even have a chance to know her name yet.

She moved here and there to avoid the incoming snowballs. For some reason this felt so good, like a duel but harmless because it didn't even use any spells. Ah! Speaking of spells... Sere immediately took out the wand behind her padding and turned to the girl, "Nive Precutio!" Bewitched Snowballs Conjuration Spell, a spell she got from one of the first-year Astronomy classes.
Sere's ACC = d20[11] + 8 = 19
Aurelia's EVA = d20[3] + 7 = 10
Small but many snowballs flew out from the tip of her wand, hit several parts of the Hufflepuff girl's body. "Gotcha!" Sere laughed, then ran again before the revenge snowballs from the Hufflepuff rained down on her.

As she started to feel tired, Sere hid behind another large tree in the corner of the Grounds. From behind the trunk she whispered, sending her another winter-related favorite spell, "Nix Facitur." A jet of beautiful light-blue line went straight up above the curly haired girl and caused a light snowfall for a while.

Sere was out of breath, but she enjoyed the time she could screamed, ran, and teased the girl. She had never done this before and she didn't know what caused her to do so today. One thing for sure, if the girl chased her again after this, she would just raised both of her hands, surrender. Her lungs were already frozen from panting in the middle of winter.

But, who is that girl? And... She is not seriously mad at her, is she? It will be bad if she is really mad and doesn't like me. After some while hiding behind the tree, Sere decided to move inside the castle because maybe the girl couldn't find her. It was snowing pretty heavy and she would freeze to death if she stayed out any longer. She thought about hanging out at the Hufflepuff table during the next meal hour and asking them if anyone knew the curly-haired girl, at least her name.
