In all honesty, two things are at play here. The first is that there are real dangers that your character can face while here, and there is technically the possibility that a character can die. The second is that site staff are very keen on "protecting" your character. Most of us have come to love our characters in some way. We build all these lovely stories around them. We figure out their stats and plan their futures. I am not certain that any of us are really ready, willing and desirous for our characters to die. Staff and moderators will go to great lengths to rescue, save, or otherwise prevent the death of a character.

The reality is that we have had a couple character deaths. The mechanics of the game are that, well, your character would end. You'd be given a short amount of time to write your final post and your character would be terminated. Your choices then would be to leave the community or to make a new character. You would not be allowed to go back to the character that died and start over again.
