SPECTATOR THREAD FOR QUIDDITCH
GRYFFINDOR vs RAVENCLAW - WINTER 2024
Date: February 1st, 2025
Time: 4:30 pm
Weather: Grey skies with slight wind
The long month of January finally came to pass, February 1st feeling like a breath of fresh air despite the continued gloomy grey cold weather. Thankfully, it seemed any rain had passed with only the whisper of frigid winds stirring up the air. There was little to blame on the weather this time around except for the shadowed ground, a true test of skill on the quidditch pitch. It also left little chance to disguise actions or hide from the eyes of their peers and the moderator.

A small frame made it into the announcer booth, bundled in many many layers with a long scarf tail trailing behind her. It would take a moment for her to adjust to the new environment, trying to picture familiar stone walls when surrounded by the wooden beams of the observation platforms.

"WELCOME EVERYONE!" There was a scratching pause, a wave of uncertainty before the announcement continued. "- TO THE WINTER GAMES FOR QUIDDITCH!" The stop was intentional now, a chance for cheers before the true introduction. "For this game, we have the mighty lions taking to the skies- the natural territory of the ferocious eagles... who will fall and who will find the snitch? Only one way to find out- returning to the pitch, it's the GRYFFINDORS versus the RAVENCLAWS!"

Roars erupted as both teams entered the stadium and field, flashes of red and blue as brooms took to the skies. Each name would be called out, giving them a chance to take a lap around closer to the spectators as friends cheered on friends. As others prepared the snitch and bludgers below for release, the teams formed one last huddle and cheer before drifting to their designated spots. There was a pause of silence before the whistle blew with a shout of "LET THE GAME BEGIN!"
This is a spectator thread for the Quidditch Game. 200 words is still the requirement for all threads. Please remember that you are not able to interface with the players on the pitch from a spectator thread.

This was the big day: her best friend Avis would have the opportunity to represent Ravenclaw here in this very Quidditch Stadium. And Maisie was going to be her #1 fan.

She was, to put it plainly, unmissable in the crowd. Sporting her Ravenclaw woolen scarf as well as an elegant headband lined in blue feathers, she kept a tight grip on yet another hand-made sign, only this one out-did any previous one in height. She'd dyed the white muslin in a light airy blue color while the sewn letters were in a deep navy, reading, "GO GO GREYMOND!" The surname might have been a little scrunched together, but it was unmistakable and she certainly hoped this would be large enough to read from the sky—once Avis got in the sky.

That was perhaps the expected, but somewhat disappointing part of this: she had to wait for someone to fall. Obviously losing a player was not a good thing, but it was the only way Avis would get any field time. It was conflicting thought.

Despite this, she clapped and raised the sign high as the players came out onto the field and did a lap around the stadium. Waving, she hoped to make eye contact with Avis to give her some reassurance. "Wooo! Fly eagles, fly!" she cheered, noting a few familiar faces in the line up. But what Avis lacked in experience, she more than made up in enthusiasm. Ever since she first knew her, Avis loved everything Quidditch. When she finally got up there, she'd give it her all.

With the blow of the whistle, Maisie would wait and watch. It was about to get very exciting.

Quidditch Spectator Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw - Winter 2025
Dennis was busy at work in a classroom preparing his banner. Paints, and markers, and quills, and a whole lot of mess! Come on come on! The Ravenclaw growled at himself in frustration. Time was ticking away and he hadn’t even finished! The match was going to start and Dennis needed to find his seat. One last mark…and viola! “There! Perfect!” The redhead exclaimed as he took a step back. In crocked lettering, one side in big blue block letters, read “Ravenclaw! Go GO GOOO!” He turned the banner over and smiled. As best he could he wrote in big red letters, “Let’s GO, Meyra! Let’s go!” While he was a proud Ravenclaw, he was also a loyal friend and he couldn’t wait to support both his team and his friend. Hopefully she would get a chance to see some action, and hopefully not too much action. He didn’t want to see her hurt after all.

With his makeshift banner done, he raced down the halls and out the castle, his banner blowing wildly behind him. To the quidditch stadium he went, and up the stairs to the spectator stands. The weather was great! It seemed that he made it just in time as the announcer beckoned for the teams to come out. “Made it!” He exclaimed looking for a seat that straddled the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw sections, right in the front so his friend could see him. He hoped Raizel would be along shortly, surely she wouldn’t miss a chance to see her cousin play! It would have been obvious where Dennis was because he was standing, banner held high. The “Ravenclaw” side displayed so that the players would see it. This means anyone looking down the row at the back of Dennis would see Meyra’s name displayed prominently. In case, Raizel did decide to show, the redhead was sure to fend off the space right beside him, saving it for her.

“MMMMMMMEEEEEYYYYRRRRRAAA!” The Ravenclaw bellowed proudly as he saw her step out onto the pitch. He didn’t care if she couldn’t hear, he was just happy to see her competing for the first time! He flailed his arms wildly as the crowd roared for the teams as they came out.

Right after sealing the last of her love letters for her friends, Novalie didn’t waste a second - she bolted straight for the Quidditch stadium!
The crisp winter air bit at her cheeks as she hurried across the grounds. The entire castle seemed to buzz with anticipation; students streamed toward the stands, their excited chatter mixing with the distant sound of horns and enchanted drums. Tonight’s match was a big one: Ravenclaw versus Gryffindor.

Yet, despite her own house’s allegiance, the girl was wrapped head to toe in Gryffindor colors, a fact that had already earned her a few incredulous looks on her way over. But she didn’t care. Her best friend Eric had lent her his attire, and she wore it with a big grin. The black robe with crimson details literally hung off her frame, but she liked it. It was still a better fit than anything in her own wardrobe, to be completely honest. Around her neck, Novalie had haphazardly knotted a red-and-gold tie, its messed up appearance barely hidden beneath a matching scarf. She should ask someone to teach her how to tie it properly next time.

As the Metamorphmagus stepped toward the stadium, the sounds of the crowd grew louder. Soon enough, Novalie climbed high up the stairs, making her way through a bunch of eager fans, pushing past waving banners until finally, she found an open spot near the top - just in time as it seemed.
The match was seconds from starting, but Novalie wasn’t here to just relax and watch. Oh no.
She was here to cheer Aodhan on!

Her gaze swept the pitch, scanning the sea of players and house colors, until she spotted him sitting on the Gryffindor bench!
"ICE LORD, HI!!!", she bellowed, waving both arms wildly above her head.

One of her friends was actually on the official Quidditch team! Wow, she couldn't believe it!
Novalie didn’t care that he was a substitute or whatever - he had made the team in the end, and that was all that really mattered. And in a game as brutally fun as Quidditch, who knew? He could be on that broom any minute. Perhaps the starting Seeker would take a bludger to the ribs and go dashing toward the ground - yeah! Hopefully, that’d happen!
Not hesitating at all, she launched into her chant, hopping in place as she hollered,

"Three, six, nine,
Damn, he fine!
We cheer on Aodhan one more time!
LET'S GO! LET'S GO! LET'S GO! LET'S GO! LET'S GO!
To the goal hooooooop! To the Snitch!"

The girl could feel her pulse already pounding in her chest, but that wasn’t stopping her now!
"'Til sweat drips down your palms!
'Til all these.. Ravens.. crawl…!"

Whew! Or maybe she was stopping. For only a second though!!
Yelling was more of a workout than Novalie had thought! Catching her breath, she grinned in Aodhan’s direction.
"I'm your fan, Aodhan!"

Freshly showered after her own Quidditch game earlier in the morning, Koko had ventured back to the Quidditch Stadium after curiosity got the better of her. Despite her residual exhaustion, Koko dressed herself in a pair of brown trousers and a cream-coloured turtleneck with floral embroidery at the cuffs of her sleeves. Her hair was down from her earlier half-up-half-down style, falling freely to about collarbone level.

She clutched a pair of omnioculars in one hand as she trudged up the stands, finally settling in a row that was relatively high-up, away from the action and anyone who might attempt to interrupt her observation. She sat in the seat nearest the aisle so that she would not necessarily be forced to sit next to two unruly younger years. Unlike others, she was here neither to clap nor to cheer. Her red-painted lips would not even twist themselves into a smile as she lounged lazily in her seat, only lifting her omnioculars to her eyes after she was firmly situated.

Her amber eyes narrowed, and she gazed out at the pitch behind thick lashes, brow furrowing as her gaze scoured the pitch. This angle was wrong. Looking at the action from afar, at a team that wasn't hers that was sure to win... disgusting, disorienting, everything was off from the stands. But she was not here for herself. Slowly, her head swivelled so that she could stare judgementally down at the Gryffindor players. Pax did not deserve her disdain; in fact, should they land a solid bludger, she would applaud them. After Miss Oonagh Brown's disrespectful commentary, Pax deserved whatever support Koko could give them.

As for Miss Brown... Koko adjusted her omnioculars to zoom in, lips pursing as she attempted to focus her brain as well as the device in her hands. At first, she was surprised to not see the little worm and her stupid little hat. For all her bragging, could she have just been bluffing? But no, Koko's gaze caught on a magnified mass of blonde hair atop the bench. At that revelation, her mouth opened to reveal white teeth in a small, amused grin. Benched! But surely, for that girl, not for long. She snickered to herself — oh, this would be interesting!

𝓑rookline tidied herself up after the meal, her two twin French braids had taken forever to do, and her sweater was warm. February first, the day where Brookline would sit in her dorm, read books and not think about whay happened around less than month ago. Nope! The Ravenclaw looked outside, and cringed. She forgot it was the Ravenclaw Quidditch match, and she forgot that Andy had told her about it and how he was second string keeper. She also heard that Ophelia, her dorm buddy, was the second string seeker.

Brookline raced up to her dorm, as fast as she could and yanked open her trunk. It had to be here somewhere, she had bought it over the summer holidays. There! She found it. Omnioculars! The pure-blood sprinted down the stairs out of the Ravenclaw tower, and skipped the false step, over the stairs, down to the Great Hall.

The Ravenclaw rushed outside, her braids flying out in the wind, the breeze playing with a loose strand, Brookline didn’t smile, but she tucked the strand behind her ear. She didn’t stop til she reached the bleachers. The match was still going on; none of the seekers had caught the snitch just yet. She sat down, and using her pair of omnioculars, peering up into the stadium, Andy was in, Brookline assumed some Lion had knocked off the first string keeper. She shifted the setting of the omioculars, and still couldn’t see Ophelia. Wait, she was with the rest of the second string.

I really hope Ophelia gets to play soon, Brookline thought, as she flicked her gaze over to the rest of the flying Eagles.

“Wahoo! Go, go, Andy, you got this!” Brookline cheered as her friend scored. He wasn’t a chaser so what was he doing? Were keepers even allowed to do that? But she shook it off, probably what the Ravenclaw team wanted in the first place.

The Ravenclaw girl twisted to get a better look at the Eagle chasers. One of them, a upperclassmen, @Winnie Harper, with long fiery curls was punished with a penalty lap, for cobbing. Brookline stood up, to get a better view with her omnioculars. The two others, a fellow second year and another upperclassmen, @Lavinia Cloven, @Quinn Brook, sharing a broom, attempted to cob two Lions who were also sharing a broom. They missed and did not be caught.

Huh, that’s peculiar. When that upperclassmen with red locks cobbed, she got caught but the two other chasers missed and didn’t get caught, The Ravenclaw girl’s face was etched with confusion. As much as she wanted the Ravens to not get penalties and not KOB, but this was strange. She shrugged her shoulders, and took a deep breath.

“Hey, you got this, Eagles! Knock those Lions off their brooms - they should be on the ground!” She snickered, as much as she loved the Gryffindors, she wanted the Ravens to win.

This was war.

"OWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Two streaks of burgundy burst out of the courtyard and ran full speed towards the quidditch statium! Drab kilts flapping as the twins chased each other along the pathway that led away from the castle, their high voices rang out in the chill winter air. The boys opted for proper cheering gear today: Gryffindor red vests! Though lots of kids were bundled up, the weather didn't bother the two boys at all. In fact, the run warmed them up very nicely!

At last they got up to where they wanted to sit and made their way into the stands. "Oo, wotcha lassie!" they called out to a red girl as they jostled past her. At least they weren't the only non-Dorques cheering on the Lions today! Colin and Liam had decided that, since the last full moon, they would cheer on Miss Totally Annoying in her quidditch matches. Colin still wondered about the firstie. There just seemed something so familiar about her. Sometimes he felt like she was a total stranger...

And sometimes he felt like he was looking in the mirror.

Liam had broached the topic with Colin after the moon. That both of them had noticed the same thing about Meyra Lancaster got them speculating. It seemed highly unlikely that they were related or anything; but they did wonder if being wolves just kind of made one seem more familiar to others. Was that even a thing? Colin had never read anything like that in his textbooks. But then again, textbooks were rarely keen on imparting such valuable information as the insights and perceptions of werewolves.

The red haired girl was cheering on her favourite Gryff, hopping about and shouting! This got the boys into the mood as well, and it wasn't long before they shouting for Mey! Of course, racing wasn't like quidditch. If you got knocked out of a race, you were out. There were no second racers to take over. In Mey's case, she was one of the seconds, a chaser in fact, but it wasn't long that their chaser was knocked out of the game and Mey Lancaster had to take to the skies!

The match was all ups and downs! Gryff had come on strong, but Ravenclaw made stronger advances! Colin and Liam cried out "NOOOOO!!!" as the Ravenclowns scored goal after goal. "SOMEONE SET SALINGER ON FIRE!!!!" Colin shouted. "KNOCK THE RAVENCLAWS OUT OF THE AIR!" Liam countered!

"MEY! MEY! MEEEEYYYYYRRRRAAAAA!" they chanted as the firstie chaser shot skyward.

Koko leant back and stretched out her legs as the game kicked off. Things immediately turned violent, something that had her zooming in on her Omnioculars so that she could try in vain to keep track of where all the bludgers and blatchers were going. Her pale brown eyes caught on every red cloak she could find — which was too many, where were they all going?

She was pleased to see that Pax hadn't fallen immediately. A ghost of a smile crept across Koko's face as she leant back in her seat, relieved and now expecting even more interesting action from Gryffindor's beaters. In the back of her mind, though, she recalled Pax's bitterness at usually being struck out so early. At least they got to feel the wind on their cheeks right now; surely that had to be worth something.

And then —

Oh, shit —

Koko's eyes widened minutely, moving of their own accord, tracking Pax's path down to earth. She looked away at the last minute. Even Quidditch could not desensitise her to empathy.

She swallowed and adjusted her Omnioculars, smiling at the click-click-click of their gears as a lens snapped into place. Then, she glanced down towards where a certain Oonagh Brown would have been getting ready to kick off. The fond smile she'd worn when adjusting her Omnioculars had twisted into something a bit crueller, her eyes narrowing as she began to watch the game with a renewed intensity.

It was time to see if Miss Oonagh Brown was really worth all her bluff.

Koko zoomed out, gladly allowing herself the view of the entire pitch, hardly paying notice to the imbalance of colour on the field — the blue far overpowered the red. She could hardly blame the lions, but really, it wasn't blame that mattered. She watched, intrigued, as the blonde-haired menace with the stupid little hat thwacked a bludger at a poor Ravenclaw — and the Ravenclaw dodged!

Oh, yes, that wry smirk of Koko's was back. Something shone in her eyes despite the overcast weather. That, she had not expected. Clearly, Oonagh's success with their little bludgering bout had been a fluke. Thank Merlin.

And yet, as the red and gold on the pitch began to dwindle further, it was harder for Koko to not empathise with the Gryffindors' predicament. Something started to tug her smirk downwards into a disappointed frown as she saw Jorah launch a bludger right at Oonagh, and Koko forced herself to continue smiling blankly as the girl fell.

It was supposed to be satisfying.

She stretched, rising from her seat, telling herself that the game was getting boring since nothing was happening, and, obviously, that was why she was leaving. It had nothing to do with disappointment. Nothing to do with concern.

Maybe she'd bring Pax some get-well sweets, and maybe she'd spare Oonagh a withering glare. Maybe.

Her Omnioculars bounced against her clavicle, making Koko fight a grimace in favour of keeping a blank expression on her face as she left the stands, her hands clenching into fists and then loosening when her nails dug into her palms. She cast a tired glance back at the pitch to see a Ravenclaw — Aly, surely — with her arm reaching towards some invisible object, and at least this time, pride for someone else tugged at her heart. Aly deserved this, and she'd done a damn good job.

Maybe next time Koko would cheer.
