Casey caught a glimpse of the effect his efforts to comfort Lucy were having on her. He relaxed a little himself upon seeing the tension ease slowly out of her. That was good to see. Casey wasn't all too versed on physical contact - aside from Emily, though that was a slightly different context altogether - but he felt a pang of satisfaction that his efforts with Lucy were working, despite the lingering thread of shyness that rested under the surface.

He allowed her to untangle his arm from her when she was ready, his ears picking up her "thank you" when she calmed down some. Casey flicked a smile to her, looking away nervously when he saw her glance back at him. "I'm glad I could help... Even if only a little."

He looked back again and felt Lucy's brightening energy pass onto him, his smile growing now that he could see she was looking and feeling much better. That was the face of someone who was uplifted, something that made Casey fizz with silent pride knowing he helped do that.

"I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your brother was as smokin' good as he sounds. Mine too... Sure, he's a real twit when he wanted to be... Givin' me noogies when I'm outta the bath and sometimes locking my head under his arm where I can smell his pits when we wrestle... But I'd choose him over any other guy any day."

He smiled some more as those cheesy memories flooded through his mind. "Nick... That's his name. Nick Stone. What about yours? What's your brother's name...?"

Lucy smiled. "Nick, huh? He seems like a nice person judging by how you talk about him." She replied. "Oh, Michael, Michael Hill. He's definitely awesome."

The conversation was drifting from sadness into a new category of casual. Perhaps she could make conversation after all! She was still quite shy, but things seemed a lot easier with Casey. He seemed to understand these things.

Back at the farm, sometimes a tutor would be strict or boring. If that ever happened, her brother would usually spend the entire lesson time trying to annoy her or play fight with her. He would make silly faces at her and imitate the tutor behind their backs. At the time, she had found it really annoying and immature. Now, she just looked back on the memory and smiled at how good of a brother Michael was.

At Ilvermorny, perhaps making friends was hard for her. But yet, here she was, talking to somebody and making friends with them. Miracles really do happen. Well, I'm certainly glad I stopped to ask how Casey was doing. Perhaps I should do this more often. Ask somebody if they're okay, especially around these times. A little more joy in the world couldn't hurt anybody after all.

"This has been fun." She told Casey, a little bit of teasing, as well as being genuine there. "We should do it again sometime. You know, without all the crying and emotions." Lucy bit her lip, hoping he would agree. She was pretty sure this was what friends did, right?

"Michael..." Casey rolled the name off his tongue like he was testing it out before he smiled. "Sounds handsome. I'll even bet he is too. Definitely sounds like the brother we all want," he said.

While Casey had acknowledged early on that he was finding it smoother than he thought to slip into casual conversations like this - especially now that he was fully committed to working on improving his temper - it was still a nice reminder when he saw the visible relaxation in Lucy's demeanour. Not that her being shy was a bad thing, but he didn't want to feel he was scaring her just because he was slightly more well recognised for being a grumpier version of himself.

It sounded like Lucy was getting ready to leave. A bit of a shame since Casey felt he was just finding his stride with his social skills, though he didn't want to appear clingy or possessive over her time. Instead he smirked and nodded. The thought of talking with her again certainly sounded good.

"Yeah, we should. I hang out around here a lot between classes. So, if you're ever nearby and wanna trauma dump or just want a break from stuff and chill, you can come find me here. We can talk, maybe get poetic and fawn over our brothers together too," he chuckled. "And don't worry about tears. They're just a sign that you have a big heart. In this weird world, you're best hangin' on to that."

Lucy smiled, this was going so well. "Thanks. And I'll definitely take your offer on hanging out here. Chilling sounds like something I would be up to." She responded. Casey was somebody she would have to talk to again. He seemed to understand the struggles she had, and just the struggles of humans in general. There was also just this air of...well, she wasn't quite sure. But it certainly made her feel more comfortable around him. Perhaps it was that he seemed to understand the world as it was; a weird place full of even weirder people.

Lucy stood up and stretched, trying to remember what she had been doing before this. It didn't seem as important in any case. As she searched her mind, she realized something. Her haunted anxiety had lifted a little, distracted by the conversation and interaction with people. Now that she was getting ready to leave, it didn't immediately return. Sure, it would be back, anxiety like that didn't vanish with one conversation. It was much easier to bear though, and now she could accept it.

Maybe a little worry was alright, being too relaxed wasn't a good thing either. Now she didn't have to be controlled by her fear, she could just let it make sure that she did the right things. Maybe, next time something terrifying happened, she could take a stand and help, instead of just fainting away. Not that she wanted something bad to happen. That worry was still there, and burning strong. It just didn't control her anymore. Casey had helped that.

"Well, I guess I should go now. Thanks, and I'm sure I'll see you again." She said, grabbing her bag and lingering, not quite ready to go back to her world of homework and avoiding masses of people. This moment, no matter how quick it might have been, was so nice, a welcome change from the usual. She would definitely have to do this again. With another smile at Casey, she shifted her bag on her back and started to walk away.

Unless you want to keep this conversation going, Lucy has left the rp.

Casey was patting himself on the shoulder in his head. Sure, he's been talking a lot more to his classmates and peers a lot more since coming back for his second year at Ilvermorny, so it wasn't like there was a huge cause for celebration in this case, but he could only name a small handful of them that actually went well. For him, at least. His chat with Kaya was a good example. So did the one on the day he first met Basil. His social connections with Scout and Zyair were developing nicely as well. He didn't need to mention Emily. He was assured on that front by hugs and smiles with her alone.

He smiled kindly at Lucy. "There ain't nothing wrong with wantin' some down time, especially if the rest of the world is bein' a pain in the rear. You don't need to even ask to sit with me. Just plonk yourself beside me and we'll kill some time, watchin' the clouds or rantin' to each other about how or why somethin' sucks."

Watching Lucy as she began to take herself off away from where he was, Casey could see the weight that had lifted off her shoulders. She may have been a quiet girl but she didn't look anywhere near as nervous or frightened as when he first saw her. He liked to think he had a hand in that, but he didn't want to get ahead of himself. He still had quite a hill to climb before he could be known as Ilvermorny's friendliest guy.

"Until next time, Luce... Chin up."

Casey gathered his stuff and with one final look in her direction, he set off in the other. The weather was still nice enough to putter around the grounds before going back inside.

She was a curious girl. In her own way. Casey didn't know for sure how he knew that, but he was intrigued to find out the next time he would see her.
