After a busy morning in which all teams had the opportunity to brew their best potions, using all their knowledge and best of skills, professors @Melisande Lennox and Méabh Regan would be waiting for the brave and daring contestants at the Quidditch Stadium. Alongside them was the prestigious and international panel of judges, constituted by Hogwarts' @Hjørdis Jensen and @Dusana Sabo, @Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbatons, @Évodie Ndoto Masudi of Uagadou and Hugo da Silva [NPC] former Castelobruxo's potions professor and a renown author.

It was mid-autumn and the Scottish highlands would welcome them with gray skies and a very unpleasant cold wind. Meli looked at the heavy clouds forming a dense blanket that threatened to dissolve into raindrops and hoped that wouldn't happen for a while longer. Behind her, the representatives of the various schools participating in the tournament were sitting comfortably, they would be the ones who would evaluate the performance of all the teams and they would be the ones who would decide the winner in the end. Who among them would deserve to walk out of the stadium with a shiny new golden cauldron and bring honor and prestige to their names? Melisande knew that she flinched a little when she saw some of the potions being prepared...now she only could hope for the best!

The Quidditch Stadium was completely renovated and prepared to receive the event. In it, three different sections could be found, each prepared for the challenges corresponding to each age group.
First Section:
There, in the first third part of the Stadium, a dense forest had blossomed. Tall pines were separated by bushes that hid the ground from anyone looking or trying to cross the forest. Well, unfortunately for the competitors, it would be precisely on the ground that the mischievous little Red Caps would hide! Inside their holes they would wait with their bludgeons until their victims dared to penetrate the dense vegetation. Once the adventurous students entered the forest their mission would prove to be quite difficult, of course! To achieve prestige the challenges could not be easy to overcome!

Melisande and Méabh were standing together, making themselves noticed among the seated spectators, as they waited for all the competition participants to arrive at the place where the last part of the Potions Championship would be held. Once all the contestants were present, Meli, with her voice amplified by the Sonorus spell, would finally address everyone present, "Dear students and honorer guests, welcome to the third and final part of the Potions Championship. As you can see, in front of you is not the usual sight that we are used to finding inside our Quidditch Stadium. The organisation of this event took liberties and transformed it into a more suitable setting for this contest.”

“First, inside that lush green forest,” Meli continued pointing with her hand and outstretched arm towards the patch of tall trees, “There is a basket of apples that needs to be retrieved. Unfortunately, it is in the possession and custody of a group of mischievous Red Caps. You’ll need to use all your courage and wits to succeed in this dangerous mission."

"Completing your task should be your main goal, but let me remind you that you’ll lose points if you get yourself harmed or any of the Red Caps. I hope you’ve done your best and brewed the most outstanding potions!” She merrily ended saying, giving the crowd one of her brightest smiles. It certainly would be entertaining!

“So when you are ready…” She started again, looking at the youngest students with an encouraging nod and smile, “Remember you will only have one hour to finish this challenge, when the time is over so it is your opportunity to succeed. Time starts as soon as you enter your challenge field. In your case, as soon as you cross the gate in the fence surrounding the pine forest. Time will stop counting when you return."

"Pay attention to your surroundings, remember everything you have learned so far, trust your companions and I’m sure you’ll be victorious! Good luck!”
Then she would give them a signal, letting them know that they were free to enter the forest and start their challenge.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
THIRD CHALLENGE FOR 1ST AND 2ND YEAR

- Retrieve a basket of apples from a dense patch of forest - it is guarded by Red Caps.

- The groups will be judged and rated by a prestigious panel of international wizards, by the following criteria:
1. Quality of the potions
2. Successful completion of the task
3. How fast they finished the task
4. Injuries and other harm to the competitors
5. Injuries and other harm to the beasts
jjjj
- The tasks will be performed in the same groups that brewed the potions in the first and second part. Each member of the group will have one dose of each of the two potions they brewed to use - but be careful, their effect will depend on the success of the brewing stage, and a bad brew might harm more than help!
(This potion is IC only and only usable for this thread - there is no potion item associated with this.)

- The event has a total of three moderated rounds, after which the time is up! Your characters can perform one moderated action per round (incl. casting spells - think adventure threads, balls, sports etc.). Using a potion as a bonus action (can be performed additionally to the moderated action). You can use both potions in the same round, in this case one potion counts as the first moderated action and the second as a bonus action. Will your strategy lead to victory?

- Moderations take place roughly weekly. The deadline for posting is six days (144 hours) after the moderation is posted. The word requirement is 200 words per post.

- The top team of each age group is crowned victor and earns eternal glory for their schools. And of course, a magnificent golden Cauldron!

- OOC reward: One dose of a potion depending on your age group for every participant who has posted in every moderation round:
1-2nd Year: Fire Breathing Potion
3-4th Year: Invisibility Potion
5-7th Year: Strengthening Solution

| Prize money in hand and stomach theatrically clutched after lunch, Mamori had crafted the perfect afternoon plan: hide in the lavatory to dodge the rest of the potion championship. But clearly, Amaterasu decided he must joyfully participate in every stage of it — hence Oliver's perfectly timed appearance right in his path to freedom.

Their gazes met. Awkwardness ensued. Whatever elaborate excuses Mamori had prepared died a swift death in his throat. Before his brain could properly catch up with events, his feet had already betrayed him by following Oliver's lead straight to the Quidditch Stadium. The howling wind seemed to be providing a rather fitting soundtrack to his inevitable doom.

Halfway through Meli's instructions about Red Caps, Mamori's first instinct was to have one of them slash their wrist to draw those nasty creatures (knowing their insatiable thirst for human blood) while the other snuck in for the basket. The belated realization that they hadn't brewed any healing potions, combined with the "no injuries" rule, earned a frustrated click of his tongue.

Staring at their two potions — Muffling Draught and Fire-Breathing Potion — Mamori could only sigh. The former seemed dubiously useful, while the latter risked torching not just the Red Caps but the entire forest, apples included. And considering these were products of his questionable brewing skills, the Fire-Breathing Potion was just as likely to produce a water fountain instead. Why hadn't he questioned Oliver's potion choices earlier? For that matter, why was he even here?

"Oliver," After a few seconds of internal struggle apparently convincing himself, Mamori turned to Oliver with an expression growing a touch more serious, "don't know if you've got some master plan brewing, but here's my thought: we split up. One of us sneaks close, drops the Muffling Draught near them, makes some noise to get their attention, while the other swoops in and grabs the basket. I'm volunteering for distraction duty — you can be the apple-snatching ninja leading us to glory. Thoughts?" Better him than Oliver facing a 3-on-1 with those Red Caps — his father's books had taught him enough about their nasty tricks. Sniff, the things he'd sacrifice for others.

Response or not, step one was clear enough — get into the forest and close to those creatures. So he just hunched down and began his quiet advance into the forest.

Oliver wish he could have said he was pleased to have found Mamori during his scouting for him around the castle. Part of him had hopped he wouldn't find the Hufflepuff student, and that he could either find a much more capable partner for the final task, or even do it by himself. There were a lot of things he would rather do by himself really, the final task was currently at the very top of that list. It would be a lie if he tried to say he was disappointed to have found him, doing god knows what. And going god knows where.

There eye's meet, and for a moment Oliver just stared at him. Doing his best to keep his face neutral. And the disappointment off of his features. Mamori's fall had stuck out in his memory, if not for that. Oliver could say he was pleasantly surprised with Mamori's performance in the brewing. Even shocked, he could almost say proud. That he could get some of his shit together when it had mattered. And yet, he just had to trip over something, perhaps even nothing. And almost dropped the ingredients. Oliver had thought himself a fool to trust him with such a simple task.

Alas, now face to face with him. He felt forced into a corner and as if he couldn't refuse the unsaid offer. Now he had to take him to the final task, and hope that he didn't mess this part up either. A mere incline of his head to follow him was all he gave Mamori before starting the walk to the quidditch stadium where the final task would be taking place.

The stadium had been transformed into a forest. Where they would have to face off and snag a basket of apples from them. It sounded easy in theory, it was only in time that would show it in practice. Oliver listened intently to the instructions that where given, the words courage sticking out to him. He had that, lot's of it. That was pretty much being brave right? And Oliver was very brave, fearless even. Courage was bravery, and bravery was a Gryffindor trait. What he should have been. He didn't know about Mamori, after all he was only a Hufflepuff.

Oliver to took a moment to look at the potions. Crap. Mistakes had been made, choosing perhaps the worst potions possible for the task at hand. He would not admit it though, He was an Armani, and they were quite stubborn. Didn't admit there faults, why should they? There was always a reason that what mistake they had made wasn't that bad. Always a reason as to why something didn't go there way. And here, Oliver had no way of knowing there were stealing from red caps. No way of knowing that at all. See, he was completely fine.

He had been trying to think of something when Mamori talked to him, he looked up and listened to what he had to say. Fully ready to deny it and say no, that his own idea would be better. Even though he was lacking in that area currently. It would be fine, had to be. No plan, dumbass potion choices. And a 'hist' to pull off. Easy. Except is was not easy, not at all. Even with Mamori's plan. Oliver thought it over, didn't sound to bad. And he did love the prospects of glory. "I accept this plan, just don't mess up." He told him, would he hold this grudge for to long? Yes, and did he care? No. Not at all. He should be held accountable for a mistake that could have cost them everything.

He would sneak around into the woods, and try to snag the basket when Mamori threw the potion. Hopefully distracting the Red Caps enough that they wouldn't pay attention to what he was trying to do. Yeah, ok. Not to bad. Along side Mamori, Oliver crouched down into the woods and was ready to set the plan into motion.

Round: 1
Wrapped tightly into her cloak to protect herself from the cold weather, Méabh had cheerfully pulled out her wand to point it at her own throat. "Sonorus." She was not part of the judges' panel - as an organiser, she was busy enough, and also likely not quite impartial as she was teaching most of the kids on the pitch right now, but she intended to enjoy herself to the fullest by commentating.

"Our next contestants are competing for Hogwarts," she announced. "Please cheer for Oliver Armani and Mamori Anezaki!"

Except when Mamori entered the forest, Oliver seemed to be lagging behind... but perhaps Mamori would do just as well on his own?
Sneakiness Level:
Mamori sneaking:
Eva: [d20: 19] + 8 = 27
Red Caps awareness:
Wis: [d20: 10] + 2 = 12

Mamori is a master sneaker and goes undetected. Advantage on all perception checks.

Perception - Spotting Red Caps: WDC 13, Spotting Apples: WDC 18
Mamori perception:
Red Caps 1
Wis: [d20: 12, 2] + 7 = 19
Red Caps 2
Wis: [d20: 18, 16] + 7 = 25
Apples
Wis: [d20: 17, 13] + 7 = 24

Mamori spots two groups of Red Caps. One of them has the apples.
"That's some outstanding creeping and slinking right there!" Méabh commented. Leaning forward slightly, she squinted at what was happening between the trees. "Looks like Mamori has decided to make use of one of his potions! He is throwing it into one of the holes - did he spot something down there?"
Red Caps with the apples vs Muffling Draught
Successful potion. Upon hit, Red Caps are muffled and cannot speak.
Gaseous Potion, EDC 25
Red Cap 1
Eva: [d20: 20] + 7 = 27
Red Cap 2
Eva: [d20: 16] + 7 = 23

Red Cap 2 is affected.
There was a cloud of fumes billowing from the hole, and Méabh hoped her students had listened to her in class, and stayed far enough away from the hole to not be affected themselves. "Judging from the colour, this was a Muffling Draught. I'm not quite sure what they are expecting to gain from it, but let's see how it works out for them!"

The Red Caps came charging from their hiding place, one of them carrying a basket of apples and clearly not too happy about the potion being dropped on them. Yet... where was the attacker?
Red Caps tries to spot Mamori
Wis: [d20: 2] + 2 = 4
404 Mamori not found
"Told you that was some excellent skulking - apparently the Red Caps can't see Mamori!" Méabh seemed very pleased with this fact. "Perhaps Oliver lagging behind was part of the strategy all along?"
Summary:
- Mamori proved to be a master sneaker and spotted all the red caps and apples. Due to the use of muffling draught, there are now two confused red caps with a basket of apples standing in the forest, one of whom cannot speak for the reminder of the scene.
- Oliver missed the deadline and is thus for all intents and purposes not present yet. :(

| Two bitter lessons from today's farce. First: never assume. Before venturing into the forest, Mamori had thought the Red Caps would be out in the open, but no — they were holed up in caves. Not just one cozy hole in the ground either, but two. And rather than a manageable total of three creatures, each cave seemed to house its own small army. But the real kicker? That basket of apples wasn't thoughtfully placed on some convenient platform — no, one of those charming creatures was actually holding it. Apparently Meli's "possession and custody" had been literal — he'd gotten too used to people speaking in riddles lately and defaulted to reading between nonexistent lines. Since when did Red Caps develop such excellent butler service? Had the organizers mastered some revolutionary Red Cap domestication technique? Impressive, if slightly terrifying. In any case, what should have been a simple grab and run had evolved into something more akin to armed robbery.

Lesson #2: when sneaking, maybe check if your partner is still, you know, actually within the same casting range as you. Somewhere between Mamori's masterful forest infiltration and reaching the caves, Oliver had somehow vanished entirely from his line of sight. So much for teamwork making the dream work. This whole "you're on your own" scenario had arrived significantly earlier than scheduled in his mental timeline.

Thankfully, his self-proclaimed eagle eyes spotted which cave housed the apple-bearing Red Cap, meaning one of the holes was officially irrelevant to their interests. The immediate priority was luring them into the open (preferably just the one with the apples, but beggars couldn't be choosers), so Mamori stuck to his original plan and lobbed the potion into the cave. It worked like a charm — two Red Caps charged out, one clutching the basket of apples, both swinging their clubs at thin air in impotent rage.

And then came the part where they utterly failed to notice him.

Crouched in the dense underbrush, whether from the wind masking his tracks or the Red Caps' temporary loss of sanity, Mamori somehow remained invisible — despite being a pink-haired idiot in a bright yellow hoodie who'd just assaulted their front door. For once, his questionable fashion choices weren't his biggest concern.

Still, maintaining this miraculous stealth wouldn't mean much without coordination. A quick glance back revealed a distant shape that had to be Oliver, though exactly what his teammate was doing back there was anyone's guess. Mamori raised his hands in what he hoped was a visible-enough gesture, pointing to the side where the Red Caps were before pressing a finger to his lips and mouthing with exaggerated clarity: "They're here. Stick to the plan." Whether Oliver could actually read lips from that distance was another matter entirely, but the charades routine would have to do.

Now, back to their previously agreed-upon plan: distract and steal — though the current situation called for a bit more finesse. More like: distract, cast some grip-loosening charm, wait for the basket to slip, then grab and flee for dear life. The grab and flee part would still be Oliver's job, of course — Mamori just needed to create enough chaos before making his own tactical retreat. A quick inventory of his available resources for this diplomatic endeavor included: some dirt, a collection of thoroughly unimpressive twigs, pebbles that could generously be described as "existing," and one dubiously brewed Fire-Breathing Potion. Truly, he was spoiled for choice.

And so Mamori defaulted to the 'if it ain't broke' strategy — more potion throwing. If he could just chuck it far enough to draw attention but not so far that the other cave's residents would crash their impromptu party... He wasn't sure exactly what a Fire-Breathing Potion would do when smashed rather than swallowed, but between the unstable ingredients and breaking glass, it ought to make enough of a scene. Hopefully nothing too explosive though — the goal was distraction, not demolition. With any luck, one of them would wander off to investigate while he could focus on making their basket-carrying friend's grip a bit more... ticklish.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Action: Staying as unseen as possible, chuck the Fire-Breathing Potion a good distance away from but within sight of the apple-less Red Cap, then aim a Titillando at the apple-toting Red Cap.
OOC: If this counts as three actions instead of two, lemme know and I'll tweak it!

Round: 2
This particular group was shaping up to be the most boring one out of all of them (but in a good way!), as Oliver was still not present and Mamori seemed to be all but invisible. He did still have to grab the apples, however, and Méabh was curious as to how he was hoping to accomplish this.
Mamori sneaking:
Eva: [d20: 16] + 8 = 24
Red Caps awareness - advantage since they know someone is there.
Red Cap 1 Wis: [d20: 10, 2] + 2 = 12
Red Cap 2 Wis: [d20: 15, 6] + 2 = 17
Mamori remains unseen
"Still skulking most masterfully, what is he planning to do now?" If Méabh had some popcorn, she would most definitely be munching on it. "He's throwing his second potion! But wait, didn't they prepare Dogbreath Potion? That's not how you're supposed to use it?"
Mamori throws the Dogbreath Potion. It starts a small fire - this is not the potion's intended effect, after all. Does the fire catch?
t!choose yes | no

No fire, just some smoking twigs and leaves. Minor distraction, -1 to Acc, Eva, and Wis for the Red Caps.

Mamori casts Titillando at the apple toting Red Cap.
Wis: [d20: 20] + 7 = 27
Critical success, advantage on the Arcane Power check.
Acc: [d20: 18] + 7 = 25
Eva: [d20: 18] + 7 - 1 = 24
Hit, tickle strength:
Arc: [d20: 10, 7] + 3 = 13
60% chance to drop the basket (9-20):
[d20: 20]
Basket is dropped.

Red Caps get another chance at spotting Mamori due to the incantation:
Red Cap 1 Wis: [d20: 15, 2] + 2 - 1 = 16
Red Cap 2 Wis: [d20: 14, 4] + 2 - 1= 15
Mamori remains hidden.
Huffing in amusement, Méabh rubbed her hands together to keep warm. "Well, potion misuse or not, it seems to be working. Now... all that's left is to grab those apples and get out, eh? But will the Red Caps make it that easy for him?"
Summary:
- Mamori distracted the Red Caps with a bit of smoke from his Dogbreath Potion and made the Red Cap drop the basket of apples via tickle spell. He remains hidden.
- Oliver missed the deadline and is thus for all intents and purposes not present yet. :(

| Everything was working out so suspiciously well that Mamori was starting to suspect Amaterasu had decided to promote him from "unfortunate entertainment" to "favorite toy of the day." The "Fire-Breathing" potion — scratch that, Dogbreath potion (because apparently he couldn't even remember the name of his own creation, and definitely not because the writer themself had forgotten which potion they'd made) — turned out to have a surprising secondary function as a miniature smoke bomb. You really do learn something new every day in this charming school of theirs. The Red Caps were enraptured by the unexpected smoke display, and while neither Red Cap wandered off alone to investigate as Mamori had hoped, he was too caught up in the rush of the moment to care.

Next came the whispered "Titillando." While he'd expected it to work, he hadn't quite anticipated just how effectively it would work. The apple-bearing Red Cap's grip loosened almost immediately as the tickling sensation took hold, and the basket dropped neatly to the ground. Everything was perfectly set up, all the pieces were in place.

Except for one rather crucial missing piece named Oliver.

Mamori counted to ten while crouched in the bush, figuring his teammate just needed a moment to execute their carefully planned strategy. When those ten seconds yielded nothing but the sound of his own increasingly impatient breathing, he generously granted another ten-second extension. But as the twentieth second ticked by with still no sign of Oliver, reality started setting in. The tickling effect was about to wear off, and the other Red Cap was beginning to look less interested in the remnants of smoke and more interested in its surroundings. Perfect timing, as always.

Apparently, waiting for others to save the day was a luxury he couldn't afford right now. With a mental apology to his future self for what was about to happen, Mamori burst from his hiding spot, making a mad dash for the fallen basket. If he survived this, he was definitely going to have words with Oliver about the proper execution speed of "stick to the plan."

Round: 3
Tension was running high in the audience, excited mumbling and shouting ringing through the air as those on the stands watched what was happening below. Time was running short - the contestants would have to hurry. Méabh smiled a quick smile at the excitement in the air, then directed her attention back to the student down in the forest.

Mamori was still on his own - if he'd been counting on support from Oliver, he would be waiting a while longer. Thankfully, he seemed to realise this, and decided to take action on his own - if less stealthily than before. Darting forward, he would snatch the basket of apples and attempt to make off with them.
Does the tickling still last this round? (40%, 13-20)
[d20 : 8]
Nope.

Red Caps attack Mamori
Red Cap 1 Acc: [d20: 13] + 8 - 1 (distraction) = 20
Eva: [d20: 19] + 8 = 27
Red Cap 2 Acc: [d20: 9] + 8 - 1 (distraction) = 16
Eva: [d20: 7] + 8 = 15
Red Cap 2 hits, 200 damage.
The Red Caps weren't too happy about the thief running off with their prize, and both attempted to attack the student as he darted away, with varying levels of success. While Mamori evaded the first one, the second Red Cap got in a good hit.

But then he was off and at the exit and out, basket in hand, and applause erupted through the stadium. "Well done!" Méabh exclaimed, clapping herself. "Escaped just in time, congratulations!"
