12th January, 2025...

Prat stood at the edge of the dueling piste, his eyes scanning the two young faces before him, both brimming with a mix of excitement and apprehension. The smell of dust and the distant chatter of various other students filled the air. Seeing all these new kids attempt duelling made him remember his own early days at the club. "Alright," he said, his voice echoing slightly in the large room, "let's get on with this thing." He watched as they took their positions, their wands poised, and wondered how many of these unofficial duelshe'd have to sit through today before he could get back to his own dorm and crash to bed.

These first-years had no idea what they were in for, he mused, his thoughts drifting to the complexities of the matches he'd seen in his time. But, as he took a deep breath and prepared to give the signal, he wondered if they might just deliver a surprising duel today. There was still however some chance of him finding some entertainment in watching these newbies try their hands at the art he too was indulged in. "On my mark," he called out, his voice echoing again, "I hope you both already know the rules, and goodluck !!"

Silva was nervous. No, that wasn't the right word. She was terrified. She'd used strategy for getting someone to duel against, except she was the one contacting the other person after seeing the request. Now she was actually doing it. This wasn't a practice duel. It also wasn't an official duel, but it was real. She looked over at Louisa, wondering how she was feeling.

Looking at her competitor she felt something flare in her that she'd never felt before. She wanted to win this duel. She had to. She wasn't going to embarrass herself, at least she hoped she wouldn't. She didn't know many spells but she hopefully knew enough. She just needed to be better than this fellow first year. That was all. The only person she needed to win against.

She turned to their moderator. He was getting ready to start the duel. She pulled her wand out and got ready. Her first real duel had to go well. She knew all the rules and had read several books about it and she knew she was ready. She had to be. The moderator, a second year, had told them to start on his "mark". She gazed intensely at him until he wished them luck and the duel started. She hesitated for a mere second before starting.

L ouisa McStately’s mind was a whirlwind of emotions as she attempted to prepare herself for this duel. Excitement. Nerves. Guilt. At this specific moment the nervousness was effecting her physically the most. She winced as her stomach churned and for a moment she had the horrible urge to run to a bathroom. But thankfully her overdosed excitement kept her standing ready for the forthcoming duel that she insistently refused to miss.

The thing that was bothering little Louisa the most however was the moral of dueling. Attempting to weaken and potentially hurt an opponent? Sending spells at them with the intention of winning? And the fact that in some part Louisa was actually looking forward to it? It was all toying with her mind.

Get a grip, thought Louisa hurriedly, you can’t do this if you are debating whether dueling is a morally good sport! And with a great deal of effort, she managed to loose her internal dueling debate and loosen her nerves so she now was staring, with a slightly unhappy stomach, at the girl she would be versing.

As the boy who she believed was called Prat, who was moderating their duel began to speak, Louisa blocked everything out except for herself, her opponent, Prat and her brother. Her brother would be her motivation. She would win for him. She would win. She hoped…
