Mixed blessings?
Open to anyone!
OOC note: anyone who has RPed with me beyond 5 posts knows I love torturing my character, so don’t be too surprised at what comes next. But don’t worry, either! I won’t make him suffer through pain, just embarrassment.![]()
A more practical OOC note: Herpetology is the study of amphibians and reptiles.
Gemini was scouring the library for a very specific book. He noted the lack of muggle books. There were a few, of course, but they were, well, few! Which was a problem because Gem was looking for a herpetology book, a muggle one.
The book he was looking for was titled ‘A Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians: Eastern and Central North America.’ One of his friends(his only out-of-school friend) had found out how letters were sent in the wizarding world, and the most recent owl Gem had received had included a rather convincing recommendation of this book- that is to say, convincing if you are absolutely obsessed with herpetofauna…
Anyways, he was now looking for that book because there was no other way he could possibly get it. There were no muggle books, or at least no relevant ones in Diagonal Alley or Hogsmeade(yes, he had been there despite his position as a first year).
As he walked, he brushed his fingers across the spines of the old books. As he reached one particular section, he stirred up a large cloud of dust. He barely had time to register it before his nose detected something else: cat hair. Why there would be cat hair in a library, he had no idea, but he didn’t have much time to think about it as allergic tears flooded his eyes and a familiar tickle began to prick at his nose. He grabbed desperately at something nearby, a book. It fell from its place, sending up more clouds of dust and cat hair.
If he had been under any other circumstance and had seen the title of the book, he would have been overjoyed for it was the very book he was looking for. But right now all he could do was grab blindly at a shelf to brace himself for what he knew would come, his breath already hitching in anticipation, his nose twitching as more of the allergen got in.

Andy was very astonished himself after the weird thing that happened today at the library. Then, out of nowhere, some Hufflepuff started snorting and sneezing like he was having a massive cold. Then, it was time to break the "No Talking" rule in the library. What is going on! He yelled. Maybe the kid will answer. There you are! Whoah! What happened to you! Andy why is it so dusty here. Andy saw a glimpse of the boy's face. All red, eyes swollen. Like he had a allergic reaction. Uhh... Allergy? Ah, cat fur. I reconise the texture since I have a cat myself. It must hurt... to you know... have a allergic reaction. Just in case the hospital wing is close to here. No offense, but a first like you probably does not know where some locations in this school are. Trust me, I been there too. Andy couldn't stand to look at the boy's swollen face. It reminded him of a tomato or a Honey crisp apple. The books seemed to be very dusty, since that is the only place where the fur might of came from. Do you need anything that I can help you with? Maybe a tissue? Or directions to the Hospital wing? Andy said like the boy was a little kid, crouching down a little.

Despite his predicament, Gem rolled his eyes. He straightened, wiping desperately at his nose with the sleeve of his robes which he would definitely need to wash later.
“I’m juhhst one year below you.” he managed before his head bobbed back into the crook of his elbow and he let out a tightly stifled “h’xxt!”
He wiped at his eyes before turning back to look at the Second Year boy standing in front of him. He couldn’t make out much else of him through the allergic tears clouding his eyes, though.
He sighed. “But if you- hh want to help, help me gehh- get the book on the floor back on the shelf.” he hesitated for a moment. “What book is it?” he asked. Gemini’s tone was tired and annoyed, but he made it clear the annoyance was not directed at this new boy.
At any rate, the moment Gem finished talking, he dipped back into the folds of his robes, stifling a triple.
“h’xxt! ksht! ksht!” the sneezes were soft and definitely held back, partially because there was literally someone standing in front of him, partially because they were in a library, and partially because of a particularly strong gust of wind- like a sneeze, Gem thought sardonically; were to blow anywhere between these shelves, it would stir up way more allergens than were already present.
But mostly because he hadn’t completely lost his resolve yet.
He sniffled quietly, but this seemed to make things worse. He disappeared once again into the crook of his elbow, once again stifling the fit as well as he could. “h’kshh! h’xxt! hih- he’tch! hih’ikshh! iksh! iksh! he’tschiew!” he had one hand steadying himself on the shelf, the other clamped tight around his nose, which was starting to turn the lightest shade of pink around the edges. In this position he gasped for a moment, breathing through his mouth, before he looked up, hand leaving his face. “Gods. ‘Scuse be.” he muttered, the congestion creeping into his voice.

The boy kept on sniffing and tucking his head into his robes. Well... First thing, how about you move from the dust... Andy moved the boy away from the dust than looked at the book on the floor. He never heard of these types of books, even though it seemed to be written by a Muggle. Andy has to know, he is Muggle Born! This one?Andy said as he picked up the book which smelled a bit like cottage cheese. He handed the book over to the boy. Still, the allergic reaction didn't seem to be getting better, but the good thing was that it wasn't getting worse too, or that is what Andy thought. Here, have this tissue at least. That is all I have. Andy then took out a book about Potions and rested it on a table and took out his Quill. Originally, Andy came here to do his homework. Right as he dipped the quill in his ink bottle, he heard the boy mutter something. Need anything else? I got a couple more tissues left if you need them. Andy said as he saw the boy disappear into his robes again.

So sorry for a very very very late response!!!
Gem finally yielded to the boy, allowing Andy to lead him to a chair, although it could be off a cliff, or a stair or ladder (theoretically, of course, since there are no cliffs or stairs in the library), and Gemini wouldn’t be able to differentiate between them through the fluid in his eyes.
He had one hand lightly gripping Andy's arm for support, and to be sure of where they were going. The other was clutched - much tighter, I might add - around his own nose to keep himself from sneezing.
Once he had been sat down and had swiped away the allergic tears, Gem decided he no longer needed the hand constantly hovering over his face, although much of his willpower was still spent on keeping his now chapped and flushed nose under control.
He shifted his focus to the book, and upon reading the title, his eyes widened, because apparently, such was his luck that the book which had caused him so much trouble was the one he was looking for.
He had barely registered this, his guard down for only a moment, and his misled immune system, and as a result, his very misled nose, decided to start another reaction.
“Heh- shoot- hh- hh- h’ktch! heh’kchsst! h’ktch, ktch, ktch, ktch!” Gem sniffled, almost gasping for air from the prolonged fit, when his breath hitched again. “Hh! he! hehh- huh- hh!” But his breath just kept hitching. The sneeze was utterly and thoroughly stuck.
A moment ago, he was cursing the sneezes, but now he would give just about anything for even one sneeze. The tickle had turned to an intense, teasing sensation that he could hardly bear.
“hh! help- hh- heh! cad’d- hh- cad’d sdeeze- hh!” he managed, scrubbing furiously at his nose.
