"Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends."
—The Sorting Hat

The Great Hall is a large room with four long tables where students of each House sit during the day and at mealtimes. A majestic enchanted ceiling that mirrors the outside weather is watching over people in the room.

Four long tables for the four houses. Closest to the doors from the Entrance Hall is Slytherin's. At this table sit the students from the Noble House, where they can discuss about their next mischief around the finest meals.

Slightly shaking and with wobbly feet, Reagan made her way towards the long table in the back that had a deep emerald green table cloth on it. The Slytherin house that sat right next to it huddled together and cheered happily for every new Slytherin member. As she approached the table she got a few smiles and pats on the back and a bunch of friendly greetings which eventually calmed her racing heart. She threw herself on one of the chairs that she found out was incredibly comfortable. The Slytherin girl sitting next to her noted her arrival with a smile and then turned towards the next first year to be sorted.
Reagan sighed and pulled her coat tighter. She wasn't cold but it felt like there was an icicle in her heart freezing her body.
What will her parents say if they find out she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw. Will they be angry? Will they be sad?
As if the third year Slytherin noticed her thoughts she patted her back and gave her another reassuring smile. This time, Reagan smiled back.
Other Slytherin students began approaching the table and she realized she was the first to sit. The Slytherins broke into a happy cheer when another first year was sorted into Slytherin. Reagan smiled to herself and clapped.
Soon she was cheering with the rest of Slytherin house.

On the last day of the 2018-2019 school year, Alexx had quit her position. This decision was filled with mixed emotions, of course. And she certainly dwelled on this to a fair extent. But now, she sat, waiting to bring home something juicy for the Headliner. It was September at last and after a memorable summer, she was ready to write again. That was the whole point here, right? To focus on the Headliner? Alexx sighed, making careful note of the world around her. This year was due to be interesting.

Her summer was memorable, to say the very least. Nothing could compare to her American adventures. Having her fair share of fun, she wasn't quite ready to settle back into school. She still wanted to seek adventures; to see the wonders of the world without anyone being there to stop her. A life without priorities was one worth living.

But alas, she found herself sitting at the Slytherin table, bored to death of the opening speeches and sorting ceremony. That was her once, but she didn't find it as fascinating as she once did. Instead, she was itching to make her way over to the Hufflepuff table, where she could see her friends. Tonight, however, that wouldn't be an option, much to her dismay. She would see them before the night was over, though.

Propping her head up with her hand, she glared forward. Why didn't she have any Slytherin friends? She looked so... Awkward and lonely. She should at least have tried to pay attention, because tonight could easily be reported in the Headliner, and who better to record this special evening than the Editor-in-Chief herself? But to Alexx, there would be much more interesting subjects. If a fight broke out, perhaps. Or if Solomon Lear had ridden in on a unicorn. This was... Boring, to the nth degree.

Sighing, Alexx tried to think back to last year. Who was that boy that she had spoken to? Glen Pope? She briefly worked with him as a Prefect, but the relationship didn't go much further. How she envied those who had their own clique within their own house. Much unlike her, who flocked to every house that wasn't her own. She simply couldn't help it.

The only good thing that Alexx could consider about this year was that she would be taking classes such as Ancient Runes and Divination; two classes which she had immense interest in. And the thought that she would be certainly playing Quidditch this year! She believed, without a shadow of a doubt, that she would make the team!

But before that, she had to make it through tonight.

In hindsight, taking all these books with her to the feast might have been a tad overkill. Her new bookbag (bigger on the inside and equipped with a strong featherweight charm, courtesy of her uncle Ulysseus) was nearly groaning at the amount of books Alma had crammed into it. Still, Alma would hate for perfectly good time to waste, welcoming feast or no. She hadn’t seen any of her friends on the train, nor anywhere on the platform once they had arrived in Hogsmeade.

Slowly, Alma was beginning to wonder if maybe they had either purposefully abandoned her (she supposed that she might have annoyed them a bit much with all her talking about her learning how to run a successful business and her new responsibilities) or they’d simply gotten lost in the crowd. So instead, Alma had spent her journey to Hogwarts in a compartment with two sixth year Ravenclaws that were in the frantic process of redoing their Transfiguration summer-homework. From the bits and pieces of conversation that she overheard, one of them apparently had had some sort of epiphany that had led to them both redoing the entire assignment. And while watching them furiously scribbling along, it had ultimately become rather boring after a few hours. So instead of being productive, Alma had taken a nap instead and while she was now wide awake, she mourned the wasted hours that she could have spent reading her books.

Alma looked around again as soon as she entered the Great Hall, trying to find a familiar face but to no such luck. It truly seemed as if her friends weren’t yet present. So Alma, left by her lonesome, decided to (instead of catching up with her friends) spend the time of the Feast productively. And for a Malvado, that meant it better involve a good book.
Glancing down the quickly filling Slytherin table, Alma chose a seat, mindful not to block the view of the girl that sat across from her. Alma recognised the blonde as one of her fellow year mates (but embarrassingly enough couldn’t remember the name) that was currently glaring daggers into the hall.
Alma busied herself with shuffling her bag between her feet, careful that the strap wasn’t lying out in the open to trip any unsuspecting student (or worse, a teacher). Only then did she look back up and give a lopsided smile to the girl sitting opposite her.

“I hope it’s alright that I sit here? Or were you reserving the seat for a friend? I won’t mind moving to the side to make some space.”

Elena was late, a little bit late. She'd been hanging out by the door waiting and hoping one of her friends would show up but to no avail, so instead she chucked her bag down at the Slytherin table and slumped in, she looked a little tired to anyone who would bother to look. Elena pulled a pack of strange playing cards out of her bag and began to shuffle them and look through their different designs.

"Evenin'." Elena had an edge of drawl to her words, she'd spent way too long in America and had gotten used to copying the Southern accent. It was an affectation that would fade as she got her bearings back again, "How much did I miss? We get many kids or did the Huffs take 'em like last year."

Elena flipped a card that was emblazoned with a skull surrounded by nine leaves, "Darn it to hell, why's this card the one that keeps following me. It's this, the Coindancer or the Outlaw of Glass, and I'm not too happy with any of those. 'Cept maybe the Coindancer."

Elena put the card back in her deck and it looked like she was doing some kind of trick shuffling.

“SLYTHERIN!” The hat bellowed. Shock widened Dorothy’s eyes as the hat was removed from her head. Slytherin? She thought, standing and carefully walking to the table of her new housemates.

Dorothy had always seen Slytherins as cool and cunning, and she felt incredibly intimidated as she carefully perched on a chair. However, when the majority of the table glanced down at her to grin or wave, an intense blush blossomed over her freckled cheeks and she bowed her head to hide a stupid smile.

Dorothy had spent the previous Summer reading up on Hogwarts and the houses. She tried to imagine where on earth the hat would place her; Slytherin was the last place she imagined herself. And yet, there she was, sitting at the Slytherin table on the first day of her journey.

After a few minutes of ignoring the ceremony and wondering to herself if there had been a mistake, she came to decide that she was sorted into Slytherin and she would be the best Slytherin that she could be.

Dorothy looked back up to the sorting ceremony and beamed at the nervous students, hoping at least one might find her smile and feel even the smallest bit of comfort from it.

Yoshiya walked forward, scared. The torches illuminated the Great Hall and showed the faces of hundreds of other people of varying age and height.
Sitting on the stool, she looked up once more. From the Hufflepuff table, her new friend Rose was giving her a thumbs up. The deputy head teacher placed the Sorting Hat on her head and it started talking immediately. Yoshiya wasn't paying attention, her eyes fixed on the four tables.
After what seemed like hours, the Sorting Hat shouted out her house. "Slytherin!"
An eruption of cheers, claps and other congratulatory gestures came from the Slytherin table. Yoshiya couldn't believe it. Her, a Muggle-born, in Slytherin? Her expression mirrored that of Rose's—shocked, to say the least. Joining the Slytherin table, Yoshiya took one last glimpse at Rose before sitting at her table.
"Don't worry," said a girl sitting next to her. "I was shocked when I was Sorted into Slytherin."
"But you don't understand," Yoshiya sighed. "I'm Muggle-born."
"And? Most Slytherins are nice and don't give a damn what blood purity you are. The Malfoys are the only wizarding family I know that are still pure blood." Yoshiya saw a blonde boy frown. "We are cunning, but in most cases that's not a bad thing," smiled the girl. Yoshiya gave her a weak smile back.
After the rest of the first-year students were Sorted, Professor Lear gave some announcements before tapping his wand. A buffet of food appeared on each of the four tables. "Now, the Great Feast begins!"
Yoshiya took a chicken leg and chewed it. Other people were wolfing down their food so quickly that it looked like they hadn't eaten in years. I wish there was sushi, she thought. To her surprise, a bowl of sushi appeared in front of her. Looking up, she saw the Headmaster wink at her. She mouthed, "Thank you," and tucked in to the bowl.
General The Slytherin Table 2019-2020
The Headmaster did not wink. He did not blink. No... the Headmaster did not even think about winking. You see, the Headmaster is a being that is owned by another user, the author of the the character.  Solomon Lear, the "gilded headmaster" was an ostentatious man that liked attention, that was part of the reason he donned such unusual garb even by the standards of wizarding society.

He was busying himself primarily placing the sorting hat on top of the student's heads. The sorting hat would ponder a few moments, sometimes longer for a few curious children and sometimes not at all. Their house more obvious it would seem. Apparently the sorting hat is never wrong but often he hears complaints from the students that they should be somewhere else, demanding such in fact. A perennial frustration for the former Care of Magical Creatures Professor. How often people relegate themselves to a cliche - the heroes go here, the villains there, the brilliant over there and the side-kicks there. He had seen a number of stupid Ravenclaws in his day, a number of violent Ravenclaws, good Slytherins and bully Gryffindors. The hat does not see that when it looks into a child, no it sees an inquiring mind, someone that will find their strength in allies, someone that wants to climb in ranks and someone that will be brave, but bravery is not necessarily one without fear. Their strength is not a cliche, is is an asset that can be cultivated in they experience a time with those that share their strengths.

Please remember when you are roleplaying your character that you only control your character. Godmodding is against the rules in most RP communities, including this one.

General The Slytherin Table 2019-2020
As the ceremony continued on, he quickly ducked into the nearest Slytherin seat, not wanting to cause a distraction. He found he wasn't familiar with anyone sitting nearby, and he didn't want to impose himself. Instead, he wondered about the next student trying on the Sorting Hat, as well as the new professors and headmaster. He momentarily cast a look at the others seated at the table. Most seemed very nice. He paused for a moment, fixating on a display of card shuffling. He quickly snapped his attention away from it. Was that a thing students learned to do here at Hogwarts? He hoped so, as it looked very cool. He'd only seen similar displays being done at parties back with his old friends from... did they call it Muggle? Muggle school? The word was strange to him, was Muggle an insult? It seemed to have that ring to it. His old friends were just his friends... would he need to differentiate between ones he made here and his old ones? They were all people, after all.
Nevertheless, he'd have to make sure he clapped the same as some of the others seated at the table did. It was very good for people to clap for complete strangers. You'd just never know who else might appreciate such a welcome, like he did. With that, Emerly drew his attention back to the ceremony, ready to join in at the next round of applause. It was the least he could do, after all.

Image posted by the memberChezem made his way to the Slytherin table after the sorting hat had, well, sorted him. He sighed in relief that he hadn't been sorted into Gryffindor, and no it wasn't because of any prejudice. He didn't know anything about Hogwarts aside from rumours, so it definitely wasn't that. No, Chezem just didn't like the colour red. In fact, he despised it with a rather fiery passion. It looked far too much like blood to ever be very appealing to him. He liked lions just fine, but red...disgusting. No thank you, he was happy to be surrounded by his favourite colour of all time, that is to say, green.

The blonde eleven-year-old walked over and sat in an empty space, seated between two other first-year Slytherins, though of course with his luck he didn't recall either of their names and so contented himself with watching the rest of the Sorting Ceremony until it ended and began fiddling with a pendant in his pocket. It was an opal locket containing a picture of his mother and father. It hadn't even been a full day yet and he already missed them dearly, so he resolved to write a letter to them before he went to bed that night, quite eager to tell them everything about what had happened.
