Dragons! PV L. Luna & E. Windstone Closed

Lallie finally had some free time so she went down to the library to do what she always did, read. She loved to read almost everything, except Muggle realistic fiction that can go burn in a fire. The whole enchantment of being transported to a different world or person. Solving a mystery, fighting to save your village, the possibilities were endless. Today though Lallie wanted to read about an old favorite of hers.

Dragons, the mythical beasts that almost everyone knows about, even Muggles. It is absolutely amazing how majestic and powerful dragons are. Take the Swedish Short-Snout, Lallie's personal favorite dragon, one of the smallest dragon breeds yet it can shoot an extremely hot blue flame.

It hasn't been recorded the exact temperature but knowing that's a blue flame that means the fire has a temperature of 5250^oC to 9750^oC! That's incredible that a dragon that only has a length of 22ft can make a hotter flame than the largest dragon recorded, the Ukrainian Ironbelly.

Today Lallie was looking for a book on the Antipodean Opaleye, considered to be one of the most beautiful dragons. Lallie agreed with that statement but she was more interested in learning about the dragons during their youth.

Dragons tend to have an interesting way their young behaves, and way they treat their young. Lallie wanted to know more about how the Antipodean Opaleye behaves since they're sort of the only dragons in New Zealand, unlike other dragons which have to deal with other breeds of dragon.

After Lallie found out where the book was in the shelves Lallie walked through the library to find it. When she got to the place the book was supposed to be she saw that it was gone. Since it said the book wasn't checked out someone must be reading it the library.

Sighing Lallie took out a book on the evolution of dragons and went to the reading area. Scanning the room she saw a young girl who looked to be the same year as her reading it. She decided she would just wait until the girl was done with the book. Lallie tended to get distracted while reading so she wanted to make sure she when the girl was done with it.

Walking over to the table the girl was sitting at she tapped her on the shoulder. Lallie always did that as a precaution, people tended to get absorbed in their reading.

"Umm hey do you think I could sit with you?" Lallie asked wrapping her arms around her current book.

Maggie looked over the top of her book, recognizing Lallie Luna as she stood before her. She guessed they were mutual friends, as they both knew Millie pretty well, and Maggie didn’t think anyone could miss her bright reddish-orange hair. Maggie had tried to replicate it in her mirror many times before, but she hadn’t really talked to Lallie enough to get the right hue. Plus, she could only hold the color for so long before her hair would fade back to its natural light brown color, as she wasn’t really that great of a metamorphagus yet. She was working on it, though.

“Umm, hey do you think I could sit with you?” she asked, her arms wrapped around a book that caught Maggie’s eye. It read “The Evolution of Dragons” on the cover, and though Maggie hadn’t been able to tear herself away from the book she was reading about the Antipodean Opaleye, she was almost finished with it anyways, and she noticed Lallie eyeing the book as well.

“Sure! Do you wanna switch? I’m almost done with this anyway.” she asked, grinning at the girl as she sat down across from her. “Did you know that they don’t have pupils, like, at all?” she asked, nodding to her book as she said so. She was painfully aware of how nerdy she sounded, but she couldn’t help herself. Maybe if she was lucky, Lallie would know a bit about dragons as well. Realizing she’d forgotten to introduce herself, Maggie laughed lightly as she added,

“Sorry, I’m uh— Maggie, Maggie Parker.” she said, hastily sticking her hand out. “You’re Lallie, right? Millie’s talked about you before— and I’ve seen you around the castle.” she elaborated, not wanting to sound like a creep for knowing the girl’s name. “Kind of hard to miss.” she joked, motioning vaguely to Lallie’s hair. “I love it, by the way. I’ve tried to recreate that color a million times, but it’s never worked— and I’m not really strong enough to hold it for more than a few seconds yet.”

Lallie grinned as the girl said she could sit down. 'Great! Another person allowing me to get what I want while avoiding confrontation." Lallie thought jokingly as she sat across from the girl.

She was excited to see the girl was fascinated about dragons. Could she finally have found someone who expressed interest in dragons as well? It was getting tiresome not being able to have someone to talk dragons with. Granted she hadn't been actively searching for a fellow dragon nerd at Hogwarts, but still.

"Yea, I do, It's really fascinating, isn't it? If they evolved to have eyes but no pupils that must mean there's a purpose. Like maybe they use their eyes as light receptors the way worms do." Lallie said reciprocating the girl's nerdiness with her own.

It was a little surprising Maggie knew who Lallie was. She wasn't really that outgoing and kept herself. 'She's probably in a couple of your classes but you, of course, are too self-centered to notice that.' Shoot, was she? Lallie would hate if that was the case. She guessed she did get a little too focused on what she and the teacher were doing instead of her other classmates.

It was more surprising that Maggie said Millie had mentioned her. Millie, the girl Lallie has had a crush on for the past six months now, was talking about her to her friends? Sure, she had hung out with her a few times and she guessed she could consider her a friend but still the fact that Millie talked to her was incredible.

"Yea, I'm Lallie, Lallie Luna." Lallie said taking Maggie's hand and shaking it. "Thank you, that's really nice of you. I can't remember the last time someone's mentioned my hair." Lallie said subconsciously running her fingers through her hair, "So you're a Metamorpahagus then? Well, I guess you'll have to spend more time with me to perfect the color ay?" Lallie said jokingly.

“I guess I will,” Maggie smiled, already beginning to like the girl.

“Have you heard of Abigail Hanson?” Maggie asked, “She’s a dragon researcher— and my idol, but that’s besides the point.” she hastily tried to pull herself back on track as she realizes she was getting off-topic. “She theorized that Antipodean Opaleyes actually originated from a different habitat, because of their pupiless eyes.”

“I mean, if you think about it, it’s actually a very interesting theory.” Maggie continued, getting wrapped up in her own thoughts as she thought out loud. “All animals with eyes have pupils, right? Sure, maybe a lot of pupils look different from others, but they’re still there.”

“So why don’t the Antipodeans have pupils? They couldn’t have, y’know, originated from a species without pupils— a known species, that is, because they still have eyes.” Maggie explained, “So Abigail Hanson theorized that they actually came from a habitat without the need of light receptors. When they migrated over to New Zealand, the light receptors grew back into their scales, like what worms have, but it’s still interesting, right?”

“She's been researching that theory since she thought it up, too, among other things though.” Maggie furthered, completely gushing about her hero. I mean, she was amazing! A dragon activist who went on totally badass adventures? That was literally what Maggie wanted to be as soon as she realizes she could.
