It had been fifteen days since Novalie arrived at Hogwarts and was thrown into the magical world.
Coming from a Muggle background - as they called it here - it was a lot to take in.
This evening, she sat by the Great Lake, watching the setting sun ripple across its calm surface. The scene was... poetic, in a way. To an observer, it might have looked like Novalie was lost in thought, replaying all her new experiences, trying to process the wonders she'd seen and felt, and contrasting them with the 'normal' life she'd left behind.
However, Novalie's mind was elsewhere. Specifically, on the giant squid.
The girl vividly recalled that moment on her first day upon her entrance, when the boat carrying her and her new friends had been yeeted into the air! The squid's tentacles had snatched them up, only to tickle them before splashing back into the water and vanishing. It had been exciting and hilarious all at once! Novalie had even jumped into the lake after it, hoping to get a better look, but she never saw it again...
Ever since then, she'd been determined to befriend this.. beast? Animal? Whatever it was.
She’d been thinking of a plan for days, and now, without one because she couldn't decide, the redhead was ready to simply try again looking for it.
Without hesitation, Novalie kicked off her shoes and rolled up her pants to her knees. The shore was small and rocky, so she couldn’t dive in dramatically as she'd imagined. Instead, she waded into the water.
The moment her foot sank into the lake, Novalie shivered. It hadn't felt this cold when she’d played with it earlier, letting it run over her fingers. Now it felt like the cold bit at her skin like icy needles! God...
But she wouldn't let that stop her. Determined, she stepped in further, water lapping at her legs.
Unbeknownst to Novalie, her appearance began to change. Her dark red hair shifted, turning snowy white with a faint bluish sheen. Her skin grew frost-like in appearance, a light dusting of white flecks forming across her arms, as if the cold itself had claimed her. The Metamorphmagus looked like a winter spirit, starkly out of place in the late summer warmth.
“Okay, okay…”, Novalie whispered and trudged further until the water reached her knees.
She was starting to adjust to the cold when-
Something brushed her leg.
The Ravenclaw froze for a moment before pulling up her sleeves as her eyes darted down, trying to spot the culprit. The water, however, refused to cooperate and she couldn’t see a thing beneath its surface. Whatever it was moved again, and Novalie reached down, hands splashing frantically as she tried to grab it.
After a few moments of wild grasping, her hand finally closed around something. Triumphantly, she pulled it out of the water - a pair of headphones, dangling from a long, waterlogged cable.
A grin spread across her face.
Someone must have lost them or tossed them away in frustration, probably after realizing they didn’t work at Hogwarts. Yeah, that part still confused her - why didn’t electronics function in the magical world anyway?

Speech
In the little of two weeks since Edwin had arrived at Hogwarts, he had arrived at a singular conclusion. Hogwarts was not the dream school that his parents had always painted it out to be. Between his sorting, and the sheer amount of classes he had to endure, Edwin was not settling nicely. At home, his tutors would have been fired on the spot for even thinking of setting him this amount of work, but unfortunately that was not an option here. If he managed to speak the headmaster, setting 'too much' work was quite a weak argument for trying to get new teachers. Besides, Edwins ideal amount of work was only two hours of lessons, and his complaints of two much work would fall on deaf ears.
Given his complaints of the work load, he had taken a lax attitude towards studying and homework, often leaving it until it couldn't possibly be left any later. This left him with a lot of time for exploring the castles grounds, scouring the halls for any of the secret passages that his brothers had told him of. He'd had little success on that front, but he did have to admit the grounds were beautiful, even if he wasn't one to typically appreciate scenery.
The destination of his exploration on this evening would be the lake. Through a lot of the day, the lake was too busy for Edwins liking, but given that he had waited until the evening, he figured that it was likely quiet enough. As he wandered across the grounds, down towards the lake, he saw a figure wading into the lake. "A bit cold for that, no?" He wondered aloud, too far from the lakes edge to be heard. Despite his concerns, the figure continued to wade into the water without much visible issue. It was only as Edwin grew closer that the girls shocking appearance became evident, her hair an unnatural shade of white. "Cool hair," He began, assuming that it was some bold choice of dye. "Quite, uh.. A statement, I think."
The girls sudden splashing, and seemingly desperate attempt at grabbing something was enough for Edwins curiosity to bite. There was little that Edwin would consider worthwhile grabbing, considering how much of the icy cold water would end up splashing over him, and so he assumed that the girl had spotted something truly interesting. He kicked off his shoes, rolling up his trousers to his knees, before wading in after her. The water barley made it up to his shins, before he realised his mistake, muttering angrily the whole time as he waded through the water.
"That?" He spluttered, his mouth agape with shock. He'd waded through this cold, and likely dirty water only to see her pulling out some sort of thick string-like object and a pair of ear warmers. "You splattered around for.. What even is that? A string, and some.. Ear muffs?" He asked in disbelief, gesturing to the cable and headphones respectively. "Weird looking ear muffs, as well, they hardly look like they'd warm you up much, and besides, how'd that even get in the lake?"

The enormous commotion in her wandering mind was diverted by a sudden slosh: a boy striding toward her through the water, his pants rolled up just like hers.
He was muttering something to himself, though she couldn't quite make out the words. Maybe he was one of those people who just talked nonesense to themselves, like her brothers had warned her about and told her to avoid in the streets. Novalie, however, never found them to be that odd. He'd probably get along with Waffles too - her friend didn't just chat, but also liked to scream at himself for whatever reason.
The next moment the boy was gesturing at the headphones that were in her hands and naming them - ...what now?
Novalie blinked, cocking her head. Earmuffs?
How did he mix up earmuffs with headphones? They weren't even fluffy or anything...
The girl often wondered at the complete absence of basic knowledge some of her classmates showed. On the other hand, they would say the same of her. What was she supposed to know about a Grindylow anyway? It wasn't like she'd seen a creature such as that on any program in ages. And she used to pound away at those nature documentaries all the time during breakfast back home. What else would strike her as odd was, how come so many people at Hogwarts didn't know what a TV was? Literally a part of normal life?
Bizarre.
“These are headphones.”, she explained, raising them by the wire to give him a better view.
The Ravenclaw took the moment to examine the other person: blonde hair, fair skin, bright eyes... almost like some kind of royalty. He did remind her of someone ... but who..?
Ah! Now she remembered He looked like the male version of Princess Peach from Super Mario! Younger, too. There was a baby version, right? Baby Peach? Adorable.
At any rate, the Metamorphmagus didn’t recognize him from any of her classes, which wasn’t exactly shocking. Most of the time, her mind drifted off and she forgot about her classmates; for instance, she usually found herself intently watching the movements of spiders crawling alongside the walls. She always wished she could hear what they were saying...
“You can listen to some beats with these.”, Novalie continued, as if her mind hadn’t just jumped from one topic to another within milliseconds.
She plopped the drenched headphones over his ears - a completely normal action - grinned big, and gave the cable a tug, “If you've got something to plug them into, that is.”
There came a new idea. If someone had indeed thrown their headphones into the lake, perhaps there was a phone down there too. Maybe it was just mere inches below the surface, waiting for discovery. But then, she shivered at the thought of that frigid water - did she even want to continue this quest?
No, wait- the girl suddenly recalled a tip she’d heard somewhere: the best way to handle cold water was to dive in completely! Heck yeah! The sooner she got acclimatized, the better. There was no turning back now.
So, with three objectives in mind - getting used to the cold, searching for the lost phone (which, logically, had to be there), and, of course, finding the giant squid - she took a deep breath and dropped to her knees, letting the lake surround her body, leaving only her head above water.
And oh, the cold hit her like a wave of ice cubes! A squeak escaped her, the sensation turning her eyes and lips completely blue as well now. Holy Eminem, that was COLD!
Her eyes darted to the boy beside her. Surely, he was feeling it too. Novalie couldn’t just leave him in that discomfort.
Without any warning whatsoever, she grabbed his leg and yanked, attempting to drag him down into the water with her.

"Headphones," He echoed her words with a nod of his head, leaning forward to get a closer look as she extended them out towards him. "Don't look much different to normal ear muffs, just a bit more.. Sleek, I guess." He muttered, mainly to himself, before peering up towards the girl holding them. She too was unfamiliar to him, which was surprising considering her bold choice in hair colour, and he was almost certain that he'd of spotted someone with that hair amongst a crowd before today.
He had begun to wonder whether such a bold choice of dye was even allowed, or violated some kind of uniform regulation, before she spoke again, distracting him from his train of thought. "But, how do-" He had began to ask, before all of the background noise that had previously surrounded him was muffled. The gentle chattering that could be heard from the castle even as far away as the lake entirely gone, any splashes of water - gone. The experience itself wouldn't of been shocking, given that earmuffs muffled the sound just as much, if not more, but the shocking part was the water that dripped down from the headphones, soaking into his hair and dripping onto his shoulder. He hadn't even a moment to voice his displeasure before the wire was tugged at, jerking his head downwards. "And what is that you would plug them into? A radio?" He asked, though his idea of a radio was far different than what a muggleborn would imagine, the only radio's Edwin having ever seen were all powered by magic. "Never saw a pluggy bit on a radio, though. Actually, why do you even need these headphones, if a radio just plays music already, will they not make it harder to listen to music if they cancel noise?"
Despite her having answered his questions on what the headphones were, which he lowered to rest on his shoulders, Edwin still hadn't a clue why or how these headphones had ended up in the lake. Nor did he get a chance to inquire any further, as the other girl continued to act seemingly without a moments hesitation, plunging herself into the icy water. "Are you insane?" He asked, before his eyes were drawn to hers, which he hadn't remembered as being blue only a moment prior. "I mean you're that cold that yo-AA." He let out a squeal of shock as he felt his legs pulled from beneath him, flopping back into the water with all the grace and elegance of a whale.
Edwin remained entirely submerged beneath the waters surface for a moment, appearing entirely as a defeated man. After his moment of self misery, he rose out of the water, his hair and clothes soaked, his face deadpan. He was too cold to be angry, too angry to not do anything, and yet some deep part of him simply just wished to laugh, certain that if he was a bystander, he would be keeled over laughing if he had witnessed what had just happened. He stood in a stunned silence for a few moments, before eventually lowering himself back into the water, the temperature having been far more tolerable whilst he had been submerged.
"It's cold." He eventually said, hugging his arms to his body beneath the water. "It's so cold that your eyes have somehow turned blue. I haven't quite figured that one out, but that clearly means it is too cold."
"In fact," He suddenly splashed his hand through the water, sending as big of a splash in her direction as he could manage. "Only fair. He said with a grin, before slowly beginning to drift around the area they were within, ensuring that he remained as submerged as he could manage, whilst moving about. "Oh, I got something." He began excitedly, his hand curling around the unknown object. His face dropped once again as he raised it, revealing it to simply be a pebble, which he dropped back into the lake with a sigh.
"What's one of them pluggy things look like, then? I doubt there leave the headphones without the other bit, would seem silly to keep one, but not the other."

Novalie had pulled the boy into the water successfully and beamed as she watched him come to his feet again - only to sink back in after a few seconds.
Hah! She knew it! It was way more comfortable beneath the surface once you got used to it! Though... she had to admit, it was still a bit cold.
Before the girl could throw her newfound friend into a completely unscientific explanation of how she thought physics and temperatures worked - despite knowing nothing but smack about either of these scientific fields - the boy pointed out something that she herself hadn't noticed up till now.
Her eyes had... turned blue?
"Oh.", Novalie rubbed one of them while smiling at him casually, "Yeah, that happens sometimes."
Now that she was reminded of her shifted appearance, the Metamorphmagus ran her fingers through her snowy hair and pulled a strand forward to inspect it.
"Hmmm.. white is actually a rare color for me.", she pondered, "Huh, guess I really must be freezing."
Giggling, the Ravenclaw let the strand slip through her fingers and showing the boy a wide grin, "Can you believe it’s actually red? Well, at least I think it is. It always changes somehow depending on my mood and stuff. I don’t get it either, honestyl."
Yeah, about that? She always knew that her hair was naturally red and changed color when in a certain emotional state. But what if... red was just a reflection of a feeling, too?
Did she perhaps have a completely different hair color that she didn't know about?!
Oh god - maybe she actually resembled her unknown father more than her red-haired mother?!
For a brief moment, Novalie fell completely silent as realization came over her. But just as quickly as it came, it vanished and she simply shrugged it off as if nothing happened.
"I think it's called, uh... Meta... Metamorph-fusion? Something like that. I haven't really looked into it much. I believed everyone here could do it at first, but jokes on me, it's some rare condition here as well."
Suddenly, the boy splashed water straight at her face.
Novalie gasped before immediately bursting into laughter, thrilled to have found someone who seemed to love messing around as much as she did! He wanted to fight? Heck yeah, she was so in!
The girl was about to launch into a full-on water battle with him when he paused, looking down at something in his hands.
"Hm?", she waded toward him, curious as to what it was.
Soon however, he tossed it away, making her chuckle - it had just been a pebble.
"Right?! That’s what I’m saying!", she agreed upon his conclusion that there had to be another part if they've already found the first.
At last, someone whose mind worked similar to hers!
"So, we’re looking for a phone.", she explained, feeling around the cold again, "A cellphone, I mean. A mobile. It’s like, uh..."
The Ravenclaw lifted her hands out of the water and mimed holding a phone, fingers tapping on an invisible screen.
"You hold it like this, and you can call people with it when they're in your contacts. Or text them. Or play games from the Appstore. And for the headphones- "
She twirled her fingers in a little circular motion on the side of her imaginary device.
"That cable has to be plugged in here. The music will go through it straight to the headphones, you know? That way, only you can hear it, unlike a radio, where everyone can listen. Some people, and I talk from experience, don't appreciate rap for whatever reason, so headphones are really convinient."
Novalie’s eyes lit up at the thought of listening to that genre again, remembering how her older brothers used to blast it constantly.
"You can totally get lost in those lyrical masterpieces when they're right by your ears. It feels as if they're rapping, like..."
She pointed at her head,
"Like they’re rapping right inside your brain! Get what I mean?"
She started searching again, "Who are some of the most famous wizard rappers? Surely, you know a few, right?"

Speech
"It happens sometimes?" He asked incredulously, his head snapping around to look at Novalie once again, making no attempt to veil his shock at such a casual remark. Even in a world filled with magic, eyes casually changing colours was not common place, and her casual dismissal of this event was almost as shocking. He'd heard his father off handedly mention about wizards who could masterfully change their features, and how they made for great Aurors, but he couldn't quite remember the term his father had used, only that they were exceedingly rare.
"I wouldn't believe that, no.. Then again," His voice trailed off, simply shaking his head. He wouldn't have believed there was someone whose eyes changed colour at Hogwarts if you'd of asked him only 10 minutes prior, so her hair being a bright red was far less shocking of a revelation. He'd seen people dye their hair before, but changing it on a whim, or it changing in tune with her emotions, that was slightly more interesting. "Can you do it on purpose? Like if you tried, could you make it red again now or.. Yellow, maybe?"
Edwin frowned as she briefly fell silent, something that seemed uncharacteristic of her from their brief meeting. He waited, patiently waiting for some grand revelation, only for her to attempt to recall the name of her ability. Though she couldn't quite manage, her attempts did cause a number of memories to fall into place for Edwin. "Metamorphagus!" He said excitedly. "It's super rare, yeah. I remember my father saying he works with a couple, and it's a really sought after ability. Sort of wish I could do it actually, but dunno what I'd ever do with it."
After his splash, he had expected another to be sent his direction, but, thankfully, it seemed his grand discovery had also drawn her attention, saving him from any further cold.
"Phone.. Cellphone.. Mobile." He echoed her words, sounding increasingly unsure with each iteration of the word. "Whic-" He simply shook her head, the name hardly mattering, he only needed a description. A description which she, in some slightly unconventional manner, was beginning to give. "So like.." He looked down at his own hands with a frown, mirroring her action. "Text? Appstore?" This box that he was imaging within his grasp certainly seemed to be multifunctional, though what any of those functions meant, he wasn't quite sure. Games, he could figure those out but their relation to this supposed App Store was a mystery.
"A box with a hole.. Interesting." He muttered with a nod. "That sounds cool though, I suppose. Exclusive music, you'd have to cast a muffling charm or something to stop others listening to your music otherwise. These headphones do sound convenient." He reached back down, his hands hands scraping across the surface floor, searching for any shape that resembled one of these mobile phones she had described.
"Rap music?" He questioned, lifting another pebble out of the water to inspect it, before immediately discarding it. "Wizards rappers, uh.. I've never hard of this rap music stuff, but them rapping at the inside of your head just sound annoying, I can't see why you'd want that."
"To be fair though, I've never been hugely into music anyway, mostly I just heard whatever my mother listened to, but I couldn't name any of those singers off the top of my head."
"Actually, wait." He paused for a moment, his brow burrowed as he tried to concentrate. "I heard parts of a muggle song once, when somebody went by me in their automobile and really loud music seemed to come out of it. I'm guessing they did not plug their headphones into their automobile."

When the boy asked if she could change her appearance at will, Novalie looked at her hand - realizing as well that it had grown noticeably pale.
“Barely.”, she admitted, submerging it back into the water and looking up at him, “If I concentrate genuinely hard sometimes, I can change small things. Like.. ah!”
A memory came over her mind, causing her to smile, “I tried to scare a friend one time by looking like a vampire - and I actually managed to make my canines pointy. Couldn't make them long, though, so my friend didn’t even notice... but still, it worked!”
The Ravenclaw leaned back slightly, sighing and drifting her gaze toward the evening sky, “People here tell me I could do much more if I practiced, but...”
Her voice became quiet, “It’s not like I have anyone to teach me and tell me where to start. I guess I’ll just have to teach myself.”
It was too bad Hogwarts didn’t have any Metamorph-Professors. Then again, she had always liked figuring things out her own way more than relying on rigid rules or book knowledge. So, in the end, the fact that there weren’t many others similar to her didn’t bother her all that much.
“Oh, yeah! Right - Metamorphagus!”, Novalie’s exclaimed when her new friend seemed to have found the correct term for her ability, “That’s what the others call it!”
And it was supposed to be a highly sought-after skill? Huh. Well... it was lots of fun to be able to shift appearance, but was it really that different from dressing up? People could dye their hair or just wear colored contacts - same effect, right? It was cool in its own way however, and honestly, she loved it herself. Even if, from her perspective, it had a mind of its own most of the time.
Though now that they were talking about it, it could possibly the perfect time to give it another shot.
The boy had previously asked if Novalie could turn her hair back to red or even yellow. So, grabbing a lock of her white hair, she stared at it, focusing hard - willing it to change. Novalie imagined it shifting, kind of re-coloring itself strand by strand or .. do at least something. And for a split second, a fleck on her hair seemed to gain a faint red hue - only for it to vanish as quickly as it appeared.
“Yeah, no, I can’t control shit.”, she deadpanned, letting the strand go. Oh well, she’d get there someday - Novalie was certain.
The blonde started to mimick her, holding an imaginary phone while frowning slightly, repeating her words as if they were some strange, foreign language and the Ravenclaw couldn’t help but stare at him.
How... ridiculously cute was that??
He was actually just like Baby Peach! Oh, he reminded her so much of the little kids in her neighborhood back home - always trying to imitate what she and her friends did in the most adorable way. Novalie loved teaching them very important words - words their parents, for whatever reason, didn’t appreciate? But everyone knew learning street slang early in life was a good thing.
Perhaps, she should come up with some insanely complex, made-up words now and see if her new friend would try to pronounce them.
Chuckling, Novalie decided to focus back on the task at hand. She scoured the bottom of the lake with her fingers, hoping to feel something that would resemble a phone.
“Yeah, very convenient!”, the Metamorphmagus agreed on his comment about the usefulness of headphones, “Too bad they don't work here. By the way, do you actually know why electronics and magic don't mix? I seriously don’t get it. Shouldn’t magic enable everything somehow?”
But then, the other admitted he had never heard of rap before, making Novalie freeze instantly.
“...What?”
Was he being serious?
Despite growing up in the Muggle world, the girl had never once questioned the existence of magic, Hogwarts, or even the fact that species like Vampires, Veelas, and Goblins were real. Even the strange rule about electronics malfunctioning around magic they talked about just now? Fine. She could accept it.
But not knowing rap? He had to be joking.
“No, no, no.”, Novalie shook her head, looking at him as if he’d just told her he’d never heard of.. of.. life itself!
“Rappers performing inside your head is the best thing ever!”
She was about to launch into a passionate, over-the-top speech about the beauty of the genre when he then mentioned an ... automobile? Passing by him once?
“You mean a car?”
Oh. Oh my god.
Without her realizing it, the tips of her white hair slowly started to turn a delicate pink, matching the soft flush blooming on her cheeks - a stark contrast to her otherwise pale complexion as of now.
And what - he guessed they didn’t plug their headphones into the automobile? (Damn right they didn't, who would do that when blasting rap anyway? Safety reasons for not wearing headphones while driving were of course beside the point.)
“Aww...!”, Novalie pictured him tilting his head left to right in confusion, trying to figure out why plugging headphones into a car wasn’t working, similar to a toddler struggling with a toy. It made the pink at the ends of her hair spread further, the color deepening ever so slightly.
“You are literally so cute!”, she blurted out with a huge grin, before suddenly gasping as an idea hit her.
“Oh! Oh! Can you, like, sing it? The part of the song you heard, I mean! I bet I’ll recognize it!”

Speech
Edwin was enthralled by her descriptions of being a metamorphagus, growing more and more jealous by the moment. Images flashed through his own mind, as she described how she'd made herself appear like a vampire, trying to imagine how he'd make use of such an ability. Though, he quickly remembered, he wasn't the most creative of students so unfortunately such a talent might be wasted on him. Though, his lips did curl upwards slightly , trying to imagine how she'd of appeared as a vampire.
"To be fair, I dunno how you would even practice that." He offered, certain that would be something he would struggle with. Where did you even start? There was no logical starting point for such a versatile ability, more often, he imagined, it was something that you just grew into. Becoming more capable as a metamorphagus as your other magical abilities developed. "Maybe, uh," He began, trying to think up something that could even be remotely helpful. "Book." He eventually suggested, nodding his head slowly as if he had given out some ancient, sagely wisdom.
"Yup." He grinned as she echoed his own calling out of metamorphagus. "Make for good spies, I think. My dad mentioned that if you were a metamorphagus and trying to become an auror, you'd get recruited much easier.. Maybe when you're older, you could transform your whole face into somebody else's. That'd be pretty cool." He continued to ramble on, momentarily seeming as if he wouldn't ever stop. There were few things that would excite Edwin enough to ramble so incessantly, but a talent that was so applicable to his dream job, that had practically opened the flood gates, intent to ask about as much as he could. However, he cut himself off prematurely, as the girl lifted a lock of her own hair. Edwin fell silent, leaning forward, his eyes trained only onto that singular lock of hair, letting out a small gasp of at the briefest of red specs.
"Damn." He leant back away with a sigh as she released the white lock of hair. "Maybe if I scared you or something?" He asked, before scowling. "My plans been foiled already." He muttered to himself. "I should not of warned you that I would be scaring you." It was a rather genius double bluff in the eyes of Edwin Westbridge, who would ever expect should clever deception? She now, hopefully, no longer expected the freight of a life time, and Edwin would hopefully be able to scare her hair.. Green, Edwin thought, Green is the colour of fear.
As he continued to skim the lakes floor, he continued to only turn up pebbles that vaguely matched the image he had formed of a phone in his mind. He briefly glanced back down to his own hands, repeating the action of pretending to hold one, as if to remind himself of what it was that he was searching for.
"It's be-" He started confidently, certain that he'd be able to pluck out the answer. However, before he had so much as finished his second word, he blanked. "Not sure actually.. Magical air, or something?" He suggested, sounding uncertain in his words. "Overloads the electronics, therefore.. Magic? And because.. Magic air is what ruins them, it means magic cannot fix them not being compatible." As he continued to speak, he grew increasingly confident, even convincing himself of his answer. "Often times, my intelligence shocks even me."
Whilst he had been attempting his answer at explaining the magic and electronic incapability, something he said had seemingly stumped the girl, and he looked over towards her with an equally confused expression. "What?" He repeated her own words back to her. "How can it be the best? Is it not annoying?"
Before he could get his answer, he had seemingly once again said something that had thrown the girl for a loop. "Car..? No, I'm certain I meant automobile." He shook his head, repeating the word 'Car' back to himself under his breath, his brows furrowed. "What is a C- Pink!" He pointed excitedly at the tips of Novalies hair, any thoughts of a car immediately pushed from his mind. "I guess no need to scare you after all, you've done the hair thing again."
"I am not cute." He protested indignantly, but that was not a matter he could dwell on, for he had lyrics to try and remember. "I can try, I guess, but I only heard it as they passed by so only a few seconds of it."
Edwin cleared his throat, deepening his voice as much as he could. "Sounded a bit closer to this.. But anyway. We ain't got generational wealth," He began monotonously. "It's only a year that.. Something something, uh, whip in Tokyo, it's fast and it's furious? Then something about some guy called Toyota, I think."
When he spoke next, he spoke normally, without any attempt of deepening his voice, or the monotony he had attempted to rap with. "Done. No clue how accurate that was, they went quite quick and that's all I heard."

At the boy’s suggestion that she use a book to improve her shifting abilities, Novalie’s brows furrowed, her expression bordering on something that was pretty surely disgust.
Books. Yeah... no. She’d have to find another way.
The Ravenclaw didn’t bother voicing her reluctance, though her face said it all. However, her lack of enthusiasm quickly turned into curiosity when he mentioned that being a Metamorphmagus would make it easier for her to become an Auror - and that she’d make a great spy in general as well. Aurors... they were the magical police, weren't they?
“I could change my whole face?”, she whispered.
Now that sounded like a skill worth practicing! Maybe she’d even consider sticking her nose in a book or two to learn that. Maybe.
But instead of becoming an auror, her heart was set on something grander, that would most certainly be the action of joining the circus, performing breathtaking acrobatic feats over flaming fires or something, well, danger-oriented, and weaving fantasies into people's minds! That thought of using her ability to help change her into a completely different person? That would surely add the extra magic to her act - literally.
“I’ll keep that in mind!”, Novalie then declared, “Next time I shift, I’ll try looking like you!”
The boys' attempt to frighten her, together with his confession about his own plan being ruined, made Novalie smirk.
This dude was really funny!
“You can still try.”, she teased, flashing him a playful smile, “But don’t be disappointed if it doesn't work, because I don’t scare easily.”
In their search, they raked the cold shallow waters of the lake for anything that wasn't just a rock. The blonde started to elaborate on why magic and electronics didn't go together while they were at it and to an outsider, his reasoning might have seemed flimsy at best, but to Novalie? It made perfect sense.
She nodded eagerly, completely convinced, “Woah, that sounds so smart!”
His little remark that even he was shocked by his own intelligence made her nod more avidly, “I’ll be asking you all my magic-related questions from now on!”
Yeah!! He was officially her go-to source for magical knowledge from this point onward. Her new friend seemed to be an expert in this field!
Novalie was just about to furrow her brows in confusion when he asked if hearing rap inside one’s brain wasn’t annoying - could it even get to that point?
Before she was able to answer him however, the whole conversation jumped to what he so cutely called 'automobiles'.
“That’s basically the same thing.”, the Metamorph started when there was a sudden cut-
Pink?
She blinked, then looked down at her hair - and in fact!
“Ohhh!!”, Novalie grabbed the strand of hair that showed the new color, wide-eyed, before turning back to him as if he didn't just point it out, “It’s pink!!”
Pure joy sprung to her face at the revelation.
“That’s definitely because you’re adorbs.”
Lil’ toddler Peach boy! She could so picture him as a kid - probably the most beloved child in his kindergarten class, charming everyone without trying.
Novalie shook her head at his statement of not being cute, “Oh, but you are!”
Dramatically flicking her hair around, as though the color of it alone was undeniable evidence, she said, “See? I’m not lying.”
Soon enough, the boy agreed to repeat the lyrics he had heard from the passing car.
Letting go of her hair, the Ravenclaw focused intently, nodding almost too rhythmically to his attempt at rapping.
“..Then something about some guy called Toyota-”
The moment he said it, Novalie immediately knew which song it was,
“-Yaris to Urus, they had their chance but blew it, now this gyal want me in her- uh...”
She trailed off, momentarily forgetting the next part of the lyrics, but shrugged it off. Ah, didn't matter!
Novalie turned back to him with an approving pat on the shoulder, “Not bad, not bad! You’re almost a natural! We definitely need to rap together sometime. I’ll teach you everything!”
In her chaotic mind, she was already scheduling their future rap sessions. After classes here, on weekends there...
But before anything, what had at this moment been at her fingertips underwater suddenly felt different. This time, it was not a pebble for sure! She wound her fingers around the object and pulled it out of the cold; her eyes lit up in fascination in an instant. A smartphone!
It wasn't even that old! A sleek black Samsung with a thin design and, of course, a touch screen.Grinning, Novalie pressed the power button; however, it wouldn't turn on. It had probably gotten water-logged or maybe it was another victim of that magic air the boy had talked about earlier.
“Here.”, she said, holding it out to him, “It doesn’t work, but you can still plug the cable in.”
The girl paused, thinking.
How cool would it be if she could actually show him working technology?
“Oh! I know! Let’s go to London together sometime! Everything works there!”

Crossroads of Curiosity
@Novalie Moon
Speech
Edwin nodded exctitedly as she asked about changing her entire face, though as exciting as the ability seemed, it was hard to ignore the small spots of jealousy that were beginning to establish themself in the back of his mind. Though he tried his best to brush them aside, his excitemnt persisting up until she announced her plan to transform into him, unsure exactly how he felt about the image of someone else baring his face. "If you do manage to turn into me, let me be there to see me," His brows furrowed at his own words, not entierly sure he had spoken his wishes in the clearest manner. "Dunno if it's be cool to see myself, but the me I'd be seeing wasn't me." His attempt clarificaiton didn't seem all that much more clear, however, he simply shook his head, no longer dwelling on that point.
Her offer that he could still attempt to scare her further stumped the Westbridge, for if he said he would try, she would surely be prepared for when he eventually made his attempt. "I could be quite scary, you know?" He could not be scary remotely, and his tone hardly portrayed any confidence in that."So, uh.. Watch out, you'll have green hair in no time at all."
Any confidence that had been knocked by his foiled scare plot was quickly regrouped, nodding smugly as his flimsy-at-best explanation of magic and technology was praised. "I am very wise, this is true." He agreed. "I can try and answer whatever, so ask away!"
However, before any such questions could follow, the conversation was drawn back to automobiles, though as quickly as they had been sidetracked by automobiles, there was yet another diversion in the shape of pink hair, and the allegations of his supposed cuteness, which he had so vehemently denied. Though given the joy on her face, and the undeniably pink hair, he found it hard to mount any further protests. Instead, he watched the dramatic flick of her hair, and gave a slight nod of his head. "I guess that must be proof.. Must be annoying though if you were trying to be secretly angry or.. I don't know, secretly sad and stuff, your hair would kind of give you away a bit."
If he was a metamorphagus, his hair would surely be some bright shade of red following the embarrasment of his attempt at rap. However, in this particular instance, he was not and was thankfully saved from any embarrasment when she recognised his poor replicaiton, and continued the lyrics. "What are these words... Yarius and Urus? People like Toyota?"
He was again saved from the lingering embarrasment by the pat on the shoulder, and the offer for him to become some kind apprentice of rap. "You should try find someone to play instruments or sometihng, unless you can? I couldn't hear it well as it was only passing
by, but there was definetly music behind the lyrics, and it sounded quite nice from what I can remember of it."
"You got it!" He exclaimed, as the object of their search was finally pulled from the waters surface. As predicted nothing happened when she poked at some button, but Edwin leant forward regardless, intrigued by this object. It certatinly was smaller than he had imagined, far thinner at least. He took the phone from her as she offered it ,muttering his thanks, and turning it over in his hands. "Like, uh.." He prodded at the headphones socket clumsily for a moment, before finally managing to slip the cable in. "Oh, I see now. And music would just be in my ears now, but no one else? That's cool."
"Yeah, that'd be fun." He agreed with a grin. "I live in London, so it shouldn't be hard to sort out, just got to find out some time in the holidays.or something.. Should one of us hold onto this thing then, and then it'll magically work again once we're away from Hogwarts?"
