Favorite Book Type

I’ll start: I love crazy character arcs! Things like villan to hero or hero to villan are so exciting to me

I really enjoy mysteries or a really good adventure book. Especially when a group of teen is facing a problem together. Like in Divergent or Hunger Games

I love reading detective and law fictions, as well as mystery. I mainly read Classics too, and dystopian reads that is most likely political and preferably banned—since I believe reading is also a political approach.

My favourites are the boring ones. And I mean dead-boring ones -- of course, only if they're stylishly written. Well, you don't have to follow this or that convoluted plot or understand the motivations of the characters. All you have to do is sit back and read someone's thoughts or a description of the way a yellow leaf of the tree in the corner looks. Soul-soothing. Like the ones by J. M. G. Le Clezio Ironically though I also love ridiculously humorous books. Such as Tristram Shandy or a great deal of Kurt Vonnegut's novels. If we are talking about non-fiction -- memoirs! Because when you read them, it's impossible to forget that you're reading something incomplete, imperfect and therefore beautiful.

Despite my Literature degree, I actually read a lot of nonfiction. I come from the realist tradition, so it is very important to me that characters feel grounded in real social, economic, and political contexts. Nonfiction helps me to gain context for life and for my own writing. Psychology books can be very helpful as can history/economics if I am working on a piece in a particular time period. I also read a lot of memoir because I think memoir is able to give very powerful, emotional accounts of events.

In terms of fiction, I gravitate towards things that ride the line between fantasy and reality, and that explore themes of identity, loss and power.
