Under Her Wing
It took Pettely by surprise as he saw his opponent's long hair suddenly turn in to firey, sizzling red. Was it an intimidation tactic? Or was it something else?
"How...?" He said, dazed, but still fairly confident.
Then, the lightning of reality struck. He knew he couldn't win by just staring at his opponent, he had to do something.
"Incendio!"
Sizzling jet of fire came out straight from his wand, flew across the room, and successfully hit its target. Pettely let out a sigh of relief, served with a spiteful grin. Fortunately, it wasn't one of those overpowering abilities.
While the joy was not as large as when he got his first hit, he couldn't resist the urge to celebrate--partially because he just wanted to get on the other two's nerves.
"Okay, raise the roof!" He said, dancing.
"I said right foot, creep ooh, I'm walking with that heater."
He wondered if the other two knew what the hell he was doing.
"W for m-" He stopped mid-sentence, as he saw a spell heading straight at him, he whipped around it without failure. Which of course, led to another obnoxious, arrogant victory dance.
"Let's go motherf-"
He was hastily interrupted mid-sentence, by the moderator.
Great casting Pettely! Tracey you almost had it don't let him get in your head and let's keep things friendly folks this is all for fun!"
All of that was true, and since dancing is fun and friendly, (most of the time) he had all the right to dance mid-match.

I am just trying to portray the behaviour of an obnoxious, Muggle-born 12-year old as accurate as I can. If you have any problems, contact me by owl.
Tracey, it might look like I am winning, but you have very strong ArcPower, so all you have to do is land one hit, and the tables will be turned. Good luck!

ROUND FOUR
|
│ │ │ VS │ │ │ |
|
January 22ndIt didn't take long for the moderator and opponent to notice that Pettely had become rather focused on the fire-making spell hitting at his lack of arsenal but what he lacked in variety he made up for in execution. For a third time in a row the boy flung the crackling flame towards his opponent and struck her with the red coils, only this time they finally found purchase and Tracey found herself unable to completely douse the flames that had caught in her outfit.
Set ablaze the girl had to think quickly, her spell work had never faltered her it was simply that the boy was unnaturally fast for someone so young. Whirling through the list of spells she knew in her head she would show Ravenclaw great pride with her excellently quick thinking, such boundless wit you might mistake her for a snake. Raising her wand to the sky above Pettely's head she conjured a storm cloud to rise above them. Crackling lightning streaking through the dark cloud and bringing a chill to the room. The energy was as electric as the storm cloud as it continued to build and build.
Tracey incantation was flawless, her hand control magnificent and her focus determined but just as she was about to release the spell Pettely's flames jumped up her arm and stung at the flesh of her hand causing her spell to go awry at the last moment. The spell had certainly taken affect but disheartened to both the girl and moderator it had seemingly chosen herself as the target instead. Lightning began crashing down in front of her and while it would miss she would have to think quick if she didn't want to be fried by her own spell.

"Incendio!"
Sizzling jet of fire came right out from Pettely's wand, the flame's brightness filled the room as it shot across and damaged the Ravenclaw girl.
Pettely couldn't help but wince for split second and emphasize with her pain. This flame he had casted on her was somehow diffrent, it didn't fizzle away right after it landed but continued to burn through her robe ruthlessly.
Pettely knew the girl was going to strike him next, he postioned him self in a defensive stance, ready to dodge whatever spell she wanted to fire at him. He gripped his wand tightly in his hand--not to accidentally drop it when dodging.
Pettely was caught off-guard however by his opponent's strange behavior as she pointed the wand over him, not at him.
He then realized what she was trying to do, he read such a spell in the Hogwarts library once. The Metelojinx, used to cast a thunder cloud above its target. However, due to Pettely's enormous luck, the cloud did not have interest in attacking him, but its caster.
Lightning struck infront of the Ravenclaw girl. It had missed. But just staring at it gave Pettely goosebumps.
"Geez, I thought it was all fun and games Tracey, did you plan to do that to me?"

ROUND FIVE
|
│ │ │ VS │ │ │ |
|
January 22ndWhile the fifth round would not be the most dramatic in terms of action there was a real finesse and technique displayed on both sides of the piste that impressed their moderator more than simple warfare.
Tracey taking herself out of the offensive mindset whirled her red oak wand round in her hand with such precise flourish the flames that had lapsed onto her instantly took off into the air and dissipated. The fluid motion she controlled so gracefully proved that she was not only a fine duellist but a calculated one knowing when best to switch tactics. While the dark brooding cloud above her still hovered above threateningly Tracey stood composed as stone itself as the lightning struck behind her framing her in striking light that Matthew couldn't help but gasp at. She looked magnificently powerful with it as her backdrop as she prepared to face her incoming assault.
Momentarily thrown off by the excellent display of the girls skilful manoeuvring Pettely had to squint his eyes as the blinding lightning cracked behind her illuminating her but blurring his vision. Undeterred he brewed up the familiar fire incantation in his head but perhaps inspired by her creativity or simply eager to prove himself as a master duellist himself Pettely changed his mind and Matthew audibly gasped once more as he incanted the Curse of the Bogies a particularly nasty spell Matthew had unpleasant memories of. For a second he seemed to pause wondering if it was going to take form hinting that he had only recently learned such a spell but nothing would stop the young badger with all the adrenaline coursing through his veins. The spell cast successfully and a horrible flash of mucus coloured bile directed itself straight towards Tracey.
Only it seemed the girls new found tactic had steadied her mind and solidified her defence as she quickly sidestepped a perfect mirror of the speed of the lightning itself. As both duellists escaped unharmed for the round Matthew watched in awe wondering what next the battle had in store for them. Thunder crashing from above filling the room with anticipation he awaited their next moves.

The duel so far had been going extremely well for Pettely, he was able to dodge all the spells casted by his opponent, while landing some spells himself, and there was his faithful ally, the cloud. He was almost sure he could win this. That's when he began to think about what would happen if he actually won. Will Tracey's friends bully her if she lost a duel to fricking Hufflepuff first-year? Will his friends look up to Pettely if he won against an older student? That all being said, he didn't have any friends around to congratulate him--but perhaps he could make one after he had won the duel?
That thought made Pettely's determination to win even stronger, up until this point, he had been using the Fire-making spell, but perhaps it was time to change his strategy.
"Mucus ad Nauseam!"
His wand shot out a jet of disgustingly gross light, however, the older girl dodged the curse with ease.
Maybe this wasn't just going to be a dub after all. He had to fight strategically, not just use the same spells over and over again hoping it would land.
And just for good measure, he let out a little floss dance, hoping it would distract his opponent.

ROUND SIX
|
│ │ │ VS │ │ │ |
|
January 22ndThings were really starting to fire up. Gone away was the simple firefight of flung offensive spells. No the students before him were growing, they were thinking smarter not just desperately attempting to hit and their efforts seemingly were being rewarded. Unlike the rounds before where one had seemingly had the advantage over the other the two shot their spells exactly in unison this round both taking the other by surprise and leaving them both unable to evade.
For Pettely the world instantly grew dark a tight bandage forming over his vision denying him entirely from the glory of getting to see his spell land and watch the girl soar into the sky above him. A shame really given it was the first time he had ever managed to use the spell. Memory fresh on his mind he had levitated her clothes remembering his professors telling him about its ineffectual practice on humans and although he couldn't see it the boy was sure his spell had taken affect as the distant hum of magic told him to maintain his concentration on it.
While Tracey did manage to blind her opponent she was shocked to find herself shot up in the air a bird without the wings. Ravenclaw through and through Matthew joked to himself but didn't taunt either in fact he was so impressed he found himself hollering, "Now this is what I call a duel, excellent work duellists lets keep at it. Pettely you'd better free yourself quick!" Strategy burst in his head as he watched the girl eyeing up her mastery of transfiguration a subject he found quite tricky, he really rather admired her in truth. And while the young whippersnapper Pettely could be a bit mouthy he was showing real gumption and strength, he would make an excellent opponent one day but for now he better focus on freeing himself or he'd be in big trouble.
