"Lark?!" Elzabeth had trailed the girl, running as fast as her tiny legs could carry her. She could have sworn she saw the flash of that iconic silver/blue hair that belonged to her. After the way she had left the Library, Elzabeth was more than a little concerned.
Tired from running down the hall with a heavy book bag, she started walking along Hogwarts paths, looking around to try and catch her.
It was a cloudy day, a little windy too which made Elzabeth slightly annoyed since she kept getting a face full of blond hair. People passed her, either walking back from a class or walking with friends.
"Oh, Lark, where'd you go." Elzabeth sighed, stopping on top of a hill. For a moment Elzabeth thought she would have to go back within the castle and resume walking around until she found her or it was dinner time, but luckily she caught sight of someone sitting under a tree facing the Great Lake.
Elzabeth knew it was her by her hair color and her robes. Relief washed over her, now that she had found Lark, she was hoping she could try and figure out why she was so upset.
"Lark, I practically had a full-blown workout trying to find you." Elzabeth stopped at the bast of the tree, doing her best to face the wind so she could actually see Lark. It was a lame attempt at trying to lighten the mood, after all, humor wasn't Elzabeths strong suit.

Lark's legs had taken her as far as they could go before they turned to complete jelly causing the girl to have to sit on the floor. She didn't recognize any of the paintings as she had walked or where she could be.. She had meant to head towards the Girl's Lavatory but for some reason she had aimlessly wandered along finding herself outside under the same tree her and James had sat under during their errand.
That realization had kicked up another wave of nausea. The cool air against her cheeks made her feel a bit better, calming any lingering nerves. Taking long drawn out breaths and letting them out slowly, Lark closed her eyes and rested her head against the trunk of the large tree. Half of her felt ashamed and embarrassed for having left in such a state, but she thought if she had stayed she would be sick all over the floor in front of the others. The feeling had come on so fast she hadn't been able to really process it properly.
The girl's chest rose and fell at a much steadier pace as goosebumps from the cold breeze spread along her arms and neck. Squeezing her eyes tighter together, Lark bit at her lower lip trying to push down what happened at the meeting. The redhaired girl coming in with that bully and the fight that followed. It had to be that mixed with adrenaline and the lack of sleep lately from studying. All she needed was a nice meal and good nights rest. In fact her... eyelids did feel rather..heavy-
"Lark, I practically had a full-blown workout trying to find you."
Lark could've leapt out of her skin at the sound of Elzabeth's voice. She stared up at the blonde haired girl, her green eyes brighter than ever and cheeks looked rather flushed.
"I'm sorry Elz..." Lark grimaced. "Is it alright ta call ye that?" She couldn't believe the girl had followed her here. They had only just gotten to meet each other, but had she really been that worried? A warm feeling filled her belly and spread through her. "I'm sorry ta be a bother." Lark had thought leaving had been the best thing to do but never considered it would interrupt the meeting enough for Elzabeth to leave. Guilt trickled back up into Lark's gut making her eyes fall to her lap.

Elzabeth felt bad for making Lark jump, she hadn't really noticed that she seemed to have her eyes close before blurting out.
"I know If I had run out like that I would probably want to talk to someone," Elzabeth spoke truthfully. There was a certain type of pain when it came to Loneliness, Elzabeth had felt it a lot when she was back home. Her mom and dad would have late hours, so she has left alone some nights.
School in Bristol was hard too, the kids there were so mean. All Elzabeth wanted to do was come home and talk to her dad about it, but sometimes he wasn't there, so she was left to try and deal with her emotions on her own. It was a tough thing for such a young girl to go through, so she had always gone out of her way to help others that seemed to be hurting.
"I know we've only just met, but you can always talk to me. I don't know why you left the Library and I'm not asking you to tell me if you're not ready, but just know I'm here." Elzabeth said what she thought she would have wanted to hear if she were in Lark's shoes, hopping she came off as comforting as she wanted.

"Of course you can call me that." Elizabeth took a seat next to Lark, pulling her legs underneath her. She had many nicknames in her childhood, mostly because so many girls seemed to have the same name as her."I'm sorry Elz..." Lark grimaced. "Is it alright ta call ye that?"
Elzabeth shook her head, tucking as much hair as she could behind her ears. "You're not a bother, trust me." She threw Lark a small smile, feeling bad for her."I'm sorry ta be a bother."

As Elzabeth sat next to her, Lark thought how fortunate she was. Not just to be here at Hogwarts but also meeting all these amazing people. She had yet to really have such an awful experience.. until that boy interrupted them all.
"You're not a bother, trust me."
Lark wiped at her eyes hoping the last of the tears were gone. "Thanks Elz.." She bumped up against her gently with her shoulder and grinned. There was no way Lark could let her new friend know just how much she appreciated her being this thoughtful. Lark made a mental note to try and repay her somehow. Letting out another breath she pulled her robes closer around her as the wind began to kick up once more.
Elizabeth's words were so kind. She wasnt pushing to open up. In fact, there was something in her voice that sounded truly genuine. It was sort of soothing and made Lark feel as if she could just let her feelings out without fear of judgement or worry. Looking back out across the lake Lark took a deep breath. Honestly, she wasnt sure of her own thoughts and feelings that were crammed deep down in a jumbled mess.
"It probably seems so silly... I bet I looked dumb.. were the others mad?" Lark dodnt dare look at the blonde girl for fear it might make the tears fall that stood at the ready behind her now pink eyelids. The adrenaline fading from her body left her feeling rather drained and allowed her mind to catch up and process things a little more clearly.
"I hope they aren't.. I..." Unsure of herself, Lark paused. She glanced sideways at Elzabeth. In the Owlery James had tried to cheer her up and even help her figure out what was going on with her family. She had tried to brush it off not wanting to be a bother to him but mostly because of how embarrassed she had become. She didnt want to look weak in front of him, no clue why... but Elzabeth sitting by her side quietly made her feelings want to rush from her lips. Perhaps they needed to be said, even if it sounded foolish.
"I'm not even sure how ta say how I feel. I just- that girl coming in an' the boy with Charlotte hittin' him." She hoped her friend's hand would be okay.. it hadn't looked that pleasant for her or the boy's face. "I guess maybe it was the whole fighting thing..? Or-" Her face twisted as she tried to discern each thought, connecting dots, analyzing the past hour. "Oh, I just dont know." Lark was becoming impatient with herself.
"I've never been around others and not like this.. I wasnt kiddin' the other night when I mentioned it at the sleepover," Color rose in her cheeks and not from the chill that nipped at her skin. "Honest, I did feel sick. I only meant ta go down the hall ta the Girl's lavi... but I kept runnin'. Before I knew it I was cryin' and angry...and felt awful.. My chest still hurts an' my head feels all loopy." She looked at Elzabeth hoping she didn't sound utterly mad.

Elzabeth gave Lark a sympathetic smile, leaning into her a little bit. It seemed like the weather was matching the mood Lark was in at the moment. It seemed right for it to be cloudy and windy, almost uncertain.
"None of them were mad, just concerned. We care for you, we don't want to see you upset or sick." She remembered all of the worried looks they had exchanged once Lark had left, it really was a show of how close they had gotten in just a few days.
It was amazing that she had found such a good group of people, it seemed like they would stick together through a lot which was a hard thing to find these days.
"It's been a busy hour, between everything that's happened, I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I don't know if it was what happened with the Slytherin boy, or what James said after," Elzabeth looked over at Lark, " or maybe you just don't feel well. Either way, I'm here if you need me to hold back your hair when your sick or punch a guy when you're sad." Elzabeth smiled at the last part, nudging her a little.
"Whatever you need, I'm here." Elzabeths voice softened. She looked at Lark, trying to make sure she was getting at least a little bit better.

"None of them were mad, just concerned. We care for you, we don't want to see you upset or sick."
Lark adjusted her position a bit and stretched her legs out before crossing one over the other, the leather boots on her feet clacking together. She nodded in agreement as Elzabeth mentioned it being a long hour. It certainly had felt it.
"...or what James said after,"
Her chest tightened as her mind stuck on that one part of the girl's comment. What James had said... Lark's silvery brows furrowed together as she sucked in her lower lip. She really liked Charlotte and she really....liked? James... both of them were such good friends even if she had only known them a short time, even Charlotte. It didnt feel like jealousy? Not that Lark had anything to compare it with... plus she couldnt unwrap this new sensation about James. Everything had just stopped when he had said that to Charlotte.
"Could be..." Lark's voice trailed off. "I dont know what it is. I mean, that was all so sudden with the fight. Gosh.." She wet her lips nervously and laughed as it hit her what Elzabeth had said about boys. "Same for you! No one, not even that dang dark witch girl will mess with you without me havin' a say."
She tucked her arms into her robes as another chill ran through her. On a more serious note she remarked, "I'm not sure about James.. I like him.. an' I like Charlotte, an' it was pretty darn awesome how she went right for that boy. I just-" Gently she tapped her head back against the tree trunk a couple times. A couple tears formed in the corner of her eyes. "I've never felt that upset.. it's so silly. I feel so strange.. I'm just mostly ashamed an' mad at myself. I know that he meant what he said as a silly remark but-" Lark stopped herself. She was letting too much go all at once and it was making her chest close up and blood rush to her head again.
"This is just silly.. I think I'm overreactin'. I havent heard from my family and am overtired... it has ta be that." Lark glanced at Elzabeth. "Right?" It was almost as much of a statement as it was a question. She wasnt sure if she was forcing herself to believe it or if she really did think that was the source of the problem. All she did know was she wouldnt let any of this ruin anything with James nor Charlotte.

"I know I don't have much experience with the opposite gender, none at all really." Elzabeth chuckled. "But if you're feeling upset or just overall emotional, maybe you might feel a little more for him than just friendship?" Elzabeth suggested.
Plenty of times Elzabeth has had crushes, most of them not serious or long-lasting, but she remembers how upset she would get once that boy had moved on to another girl in her grade. It wasn't as intense as Lark seemed to be feeling at the moment, but in some ways it was similar.
"Crushes can be fun, but it's up to you if you act on it." Elzabeth looked at Lark, wishing she had more experience so she could help her new friend.
Most of the time when Elzabeth had a crush she would stay quiet, after all, no one in her school really liked her so it was probably for the best anyways. She most likely avoided some embarrassing moments that way.
"Just try not to let it get between the both of you, that's what my mum said." Elzabeth chuckled at that last part, it was an awkward conversation about feelings her mother had gave her when she turned ten, but at least that small bit was coming in handy now.
Elzabeth smiled, pulling her robes closer to her as the wind started to finally raise goosebumps upon her skin."Right?"

Lark turned to face Elzabeth as she thought up the possibility of Lark having more feelings for James than she thought. Could that be it? She hardly knew him and had no other encounter to compare this to. The closest she had come was deeply admiring a male character from a book she had read. How could she gauge her feelings from that? Feeling some of the weight lift off of her shoulders, Lark absorbed what her friend was saying. It wasnt as if her parents, especially her mother had even discussed anything like this with her. She grew up watching how her parents interacted but had assumed that was just something that you figured out when you were older. Not this soon!
"Crushes can be fun, but it's up to you if you act on it."
There was no WAY she could act on it. How could she even act, what did that mean? Telling him? Hugging.. she had.. oh boy. Holding hands? K-kis.. She swallowed hard as her mind raced and stomach fluttered. Lark's hand shot out from her robes and grabbed at Elzabeth's arm. Her head shook back and forth as she stared at the girl, a worried expression on her face.
"I-I..I, no. No I don't thing I c-could. No.. I mean, we haven't even been here that long...I hardly know him. How could?" She didn't want to ruin anything between anyone. Not to mention she didnt like how that wave of anger and jealousy had washed over her so suddenly in the library. If that's what having a crush was, it scared her. Not to mention it wasn't as if James had even... Lark shuddered at the thought of rejection even IF she did say something to him.
"M-Maybe I could just wait..and see, y'know? Wait it out... I'm not sure how things would go if it is that... and he didn't, well like me too?" Lark's voice wavered. She looked at Elzabeth before continuing, "Please, Elz don't say anything." She almost begged knowing if it were to get out it could hurt Charlotte even, not that she knew how she herself felt, but still. She waited for Elzabeth's reply feeling sure she wouldn't be one to divulge any secrets, but still felt it right to ask. Another wave of goosebumps hit her.
"Should we go in..? It's pretty cold out here an' we might get ta see everyone at dinner."

Elzabeth shook her head, vigorously. "I promise you, I would never." Elzabeth knew some girls would love to spill Lark's secrets, just so they would have something to do, but Elzabeth wasn't like that."Please, Elz don't say anything."
"I would never do that to you." Elzabeth wanted to make sure Lark knew she wasn't like those girls. She wanted Lark to trust her, especially now that they were apart of a group that sort of relied on trust.
Elzabeth noded, standing up and brushing off her robes. Her hair was a mess now from the wind and her robes were a little dirty but she knew she would have taken a lot worse just to make sure Lark was okay."Should we go in..? It's pretty cold out here an' we might get ta see everyone at dinner."
The thought of food made her stomach growl, she hadn't had a big lunch or breakfast so she was eager to get her hands on some chicken and potatoes. Weirdly enough she found that that was her favorite thing to eat here, something about it reminded her of home.
"I wonder what happened when we left? Do you think it got exciting?" That was just Elzabeths luck if it had, she always seemed to miss out on the good stuff.
Elzabeth began walking, waiting for Lark so they could walk back together.

"I would never do that to you."
Lark offered a hug to Elzabeth. She couldnt think how best to express how much she appreciated this kindness.
"You're a good friend, Elz..." She gave the girl her a warm smile. "I'm glad you chased after me, even if it was quite the workout." She teased.
Standing up and brushing bits of dirt and leaves stuck to her robes, Lark adjusted the strap for her journal running across her chest. She heard Elzabeth's stomach growl as it triggered a similar response from hers as well.
"I wonder what happened when we left? Do you think it got exciting?"
Lark tugged at her hair tie, pulling it free from her now snarled silver locks. Wincing as she did so she wondered the same. "If that girl came back, I'm sure it did! She seemed rather in a tizzy... hard to imagine people are still getting beat up for being muggle-born or halfblood..." She had grown up hearing stories from her parents or reading in books about this sort of thing.. but this many generations of witches and wizards...still having this split amongst their own kind? It was disheartening.
"We should head to the dorms..I feel like a grub." She laughed softly as she tried her best to pull her hair back once more, her bangs a frizzled mess from the wind. Following Elzabeth, she walked back towards the castle. She reached out to squeeze the girl's hand, a smile spread across her face.
"Thank you Elz, I mean it. Truly."
