Emily was rubbing her hands together and bouncing her knee up and down in an effort to keep warm. With Hogwarts being so big and magical, could they not conjure a race track for broom racing inside the school walls where it was infinitely warmer? A classic example where Hogwarts hates convenience, she thought in her chilly frustration.

She was so numb with cold that she nearly missed one of the younger students behind her pass an extra robe her way with the intent of lending it. Emily took it kindly. If only she could do something nice in return.

"If I catch you shivering without it, then I'll be handing it right back," she said to her. "Oh blimey... If only they had garden torches or heating charms around here to heat up the place...!"

She draped the spare robe over her. Already, she felt a bit better with some of the cold being blocked out. Still, it was far too chilly to merely sit and watch the race. At least Colin, Ava and the other competitors will be flying about the place to keep them warm!

Speaking of Silly Snake Number One...

"Are you lot here to cheer on Colin too?" Emily asked, smiling. "I couldn't help but overhear you talking about him. He's quite a fella, isn't he? He's nice, helpful... But boy, is he daft!"

How Ava puts up with him, Emily will never know. She can see why Scout was always a bit iffy of him. He did seem like the kind of guy to have a cymbal monkey occupy his brain 80% of the time. The other 20% sounded like he spent it in the lake. So how did he go about his studies then? Emily didn't want to know. For all she knew the reason would be just as bonkers.

"I wonder when Ava will arrive..." she mused quietly to herself, aware that Ava hadn't turned up to the track yet.

"I believe we are all here to cheer him on. I could not agree more with that statement. He is super nice and helpful, but he also has his other side that is unintentionally funny. He healed me in the Hospital Wing, and he ended up running out to figure what shampoo is! It was a great conversation!" Avery laughed at the memory. Colin had made her experience way more interesting thanks to that conversation.

Avery looked out onto the field. Hoping that the race would start soon. She was curious to see what a competition like this looked like. She had never really gone to the matches of anything because she was always busy doing something or she didn't know anyone competing. But now was different. Now she actually had friends that she could cheer on. Maybe this would be a lot more fun than she expected after all!

Avery smiled when Claire gave away her spare cloaks. She was smart to bring them just in case. Avery didn't even think of bringing hers until she saw Claire walking in with them on. But she wasn't really cold. She was way too excited to even think about the cold.

"I'm sorry, I don't think I've asked what your name is?" Avery said to the older girl sitting in front of her.

So Emily figured right then. Saying that, who wouldn't be cheering for the most flamboyantly charming boy Hogwarts has ever seen? The little Gryffindor girl sitting behind her was singing praises about him, drawing upon his healing talents and ironic bamboozlement for anything remotely muggle. Yes, that sounded like Colin alright, a delicious blend of smarts and silliness! Emily was shaking her head laughing just thinking about the look he would have on his face, the only possible one to convey his acute dismay for shampoo. Shampoo!

"That boy, I swear!" Emily giggled back at the girls. "Daft, I tell you! But you're right about him being helpful. He once helped pick up all my books when I dropped them all over the floor... Right after he ran into me! That's how he and I met." Emily wouldn't be forgetting that memory anytime soon, no more than her first meeting with Ava... Which in hindsight, Emily's first encounter with both of them were spiritually similar to each other, both involving the snakes crashing into her at high speeds.

No wonder Colin and Ava got along. Great minds think alike!

Ah! Speaking of Ava, there she was! As soon as she arrived at the starting line, Emily called out to her with a cheerful wave to follow.

"Wahoo! Go Ava! Don't do anything too risky that Colin would do!"

Broom racing, as far as Aodhan was concerned, was the equivalent of strawberry ice cream. It was present, popular enough, but not the first thing he thought of when it came to extracurriculars at Hogwarts. It was not as prevalent as quidditch, nor was it as immediately enticing as being a duelist. The option of strawberries in the face of the wildly popular chocolate or classic vanilla.

Still, he was a curious boy, and this curiosity of his had no bounds. If he was interested in something, there was not a single doubt that he would eventually investigate the matter. Perhaps it was inevitable, like the daily rising of the sun.

Besides, anything was better than remaining under stimulated and needlessly lazing about within the confines of his room, even if the day's temperatures threatened to chill him to the bone.

As it stood, he was silently battling against the freezing winds, ignoring the quivering in his limbs and the goosebumps appearing on his neck. It threatened to completely rip his attention away from the track, and the racers who were mounting their ridiculously expensive brooms—or at least, he assumed as much. Being on Gryffindor's quidditch team introduced a certain level of knowledge surrounding the magical lumps of wood. He could recognize silver arrows practically a kilometer away, and goodness did these people carry a fair number of them.

However, the young lion could not help but grin. He was not far behind with his recently purchased moontrimmer, courtesy of Gryffindor's benevolent fund for broom sports. Owning such an expensive item made him feel so giddy, so—well, he could not fully explain it. He was never the type to linger on particular emotions. All he knew was that it felt nice.

Almost as nice as the knowing he was not by his lonesome in the stands.

He was fortunate enough to be accompanied by the aristocratic lioness he not only met at the Gala, but also interacted with at the New Year's Event hosted by her family. All of their interactions leading to present day were cordial enough, to the point he considered her a rather favorable housemate, although, she was noticeably more subdued compared to their proceedings in October. It took a decent amount of pestering to convince her to join him, after all. Or was he being fooled by her doll-like appearance, reflective and delicate yet strangely impassive and sharp?

But again, Aodhan was not one to question emotions. Despite a person's mysterious ocean depths, dark and glorious they could be, he always believed the shoreline remained a wonderful place to stay in. Why threaten himself with being taken over via harsh waves when he could admire from a distance, sun on his back and warm sand at his feet?

... Still, that did not mean he would not occasionally play with the push and pull of the waters.

"Y'know, I heard your ball boy managed to get his team a win in Slytherin's race against Ravenclaw? I don't know what goes on with broom racing, but I guess he can do more than just dress nice, huh," he bluntly rambled, absentmindedly playing with the sketchbook and markers in his grasp, "I don't mind him beating Gryffindor, as long as he pulls off a crazy stunt while doing it. Like—like a triple flip on his broom without getting dizzy and falling off, or something. Even though him falling would be really, really funny."

Aodhan was working on a similar trick himself, and despite being confident his own stunt would be cooler, he wouldn't mind taking notes from another person carrying it out successfully. If they had the courage, that is.

"What do you think?" the boy eventually questioned, minorly tilting his head in her direction.

Scottish Highlands truly has been remarkable thus far, particularly experiencing the harsh winter season, mother nature finally gracing the grounds with a blanket of white snow; which crunched rather nicely under Meiyu's black boots as she trudged almost angrily towards the Broom Racing Tracks. Fortunately, classes had ended for the day, prompting Meiyu to rush back to her dormitory in search of warmer attire to support for the long chilly evening ahead. Aodhan had roped her into joining him to spectate, though, the chance of witnessing the once mysterious boy from the courtyard would prove to be a welcomed distraction from the terrors that was her mind.

Reality immediately dawned on her, regretting her choice of wear as the harsh winds hit her bare legs; the main motive behind her choice forcing her to beckon with it. Perhaps wearing a skirt without insulating tights would be something she'd regret, for now, she had a boy to watch!

Arriving fashionably late compared to those still supporting their robes had proven to be a better choice, narrowing her eyes into a squint as she searched for Aodhan; who had pestered her for days on end to accompany him for reasons unbeknownst to mankind — that was, until she found out who would be playing. Being the first spectating during her time within the castle, it was almost humorous how the house she belonged to and should have been placed in, had been against the house she had the misfortune of being in. Fate truly toyed with people, had it been anyone else in this situation, Meiyu would merely bask in the peculiar method of terror.

Despite not entirely being close to Aodhan Shaw, she enjoyed the presence of the little lion, seeing potential in him. It wasn't everyday that someone who'd appear easy to manipulate, would relentlessly harass the manipulator to join watching a race. Credit was due, it was his best tactic yet. For once, her mind was not plagued with thoughts to monitor her surroundings. With Aodhan in her vision, she briskly increased her pace, rushing to the boy and taking her rightful seat beside him, her teeth almost chattering with how cold it actually had been.

Meiyu's gaze shifted to the boy, who had been scribing away with markers, unsure exactly of what he was doing. The mere mention of Starkey had caused her to ears to perk, Sherlock Holmes indeed did his homework; another point for Aodhan and unfortunately, Gryffindor. Diverting her gaze to the pitch, most players looked like ants, particularly the embarrassing Gryffindor team who's presence indicated another potential loss. Utterly useless team. "He's very... interesting." She nodded in response, unable to find the right word to express her infatuation, less-so a crush — god forbid, more-so adoration that someone could match her standards; going above and beyond to make her angry, god forbid that was her type. Still, she refused to appear uncollected like the girls nearby, shouting adoration for another Slytherin player, whom she had never heard of, but for some reason had the girls screeching his name like banshees; as though he had been the one to lead them to victory.

"Very few lions here, it's as though everyone knows they'll lose, again, might I add." She scoffed, eyes rolling in annoyance at the entire situation at hand. If only she bothered to attend the previous match to watch the snakes bask in glory, of course, accredited to one person only. There was something about the Slytherin team that infuriated Meiyu, either the collection of banshees nearby or the cockiness some of their players chose to display, just pathetic and entirely off-putting.

"Don't pray for horrid things, Shaw." Meiyu reminded, more monotone than her previous exchange with her little lion. "He'll do better with me here, trust me." She reassured nobody but herself, though, if he were to realise she graced the tracks with her presence, he'd likely behave much differently, much to his demise, such behaviour contributed to her adoration.

"Besides, why are you still in uniform?" She questioned halfheartedly, turning her gaze back to him; noting the robes he supported, another stark difference between the two.

"Very few lions here, it's as though everyone knows they'll lose, again, might I add."

Upon listening to her statement, the youth couldn't prevent a snort from escaping him. Were there actually so little gryffindors? His eyes made a quick sweep across the area, focusing entirely on the colors, or lack thereof, that he could notice. It did not take long for him to acknowledge that Meiyu had a point, but some people could have easily foregone their school robes as she had done. A completely plausible idea... yet, one that was not nearly as funny as her implication.

So, he kept his mouth shut regarding that. Who cares if it was technically friendly fire?

In regard to her following statement, though, he raised a playful brow. "Is it actually 'horrid', or just horrid because he's the one involved?" he inquired in a rather cheeky tone, as if a giggle was hiding just around the corner. A part of himself was holding back from fully teasing her, understanding it could have been the... "kindness" of her heart that made her join him—or something—and he did not want to push the girl too far. Yet, her comments were testing what little self-control was kept in his being.

Besides, she was fun; just recalling her behavior towards that flower girl served as enough proof. No doubt she'd find more ways to make him laugh without meaning to, as long as he fed into the behavior. Aodhan couldn't help but play around with the idea, twisting it, turning it over within his mind, until he was questioned about his state of dress.

"Well, like you said, you're giving ball boy such a huge power boost with your presence alone, right? And someone has to look out for our team. I'm representing out of the kindness of my heart. They'd be lost without people like me," he openly lied, because of course he didn't truly care about who won or who didn't. The boy had forgotten where he kept his usual sweatshirt, messy as his portion of the dorm room was, and simply threw on what was easiest to grab. Plus, he wanted to discover what broom racing had in store, and he was not the most patient person.

Although, looking at Meiyu's chosen outfit, he seemed rather lackluster in comparison. No wonder she had brought it up. It almost caused his face to scrunch up in regret, but the youth swiftly cast out the feeling. No bad emotions, no negativity, no matter how small. Actually, maybe it was time to let loose.

He quickly opened his sketchbook to a blank page, just to rip it out and hand it over to the girl, a spare marker also in his grasp waiting to be taken.

"Come on, let's try making signs for him! How can he know his good luck charm is around if you don't, I dunno, spell it out. He seems a little oblivious you exist!" he suggested with a grin playing across his lips, fully aware of the bait in his statement.

Broom Racing undisputedly was already boring Meiyu, the sport being comparable to 10,000m Olympic races, longwinded and dull. Gryffindor's have already tailored their image as useless when it comes to most sports, rarely winning any matches forcing the young girl to question how some people made the team. Besides, with the star of Slytherin on the team, there was no doubt the lions would once more, lose. Much to her pleasure, the house deserved nothing good, being far too boring for Meiyu to waste hours lingering in the common room which was in dire need of refurbishment.

Perhaps had Aodhan inquired on how horrid a potential incident was a few months ago, her mind would race with excitement envisioning such jest, though, the mere image of her person of interest configured as a result of falling off his broom at a high height frightened her. Shooting the lion a mirthless smile at his innuendo, it was clear where he tried to go with her infatuation intrigue, yet, Meiyu was not one for public proclamations, it would be far too embarrassing — the beginning of a social suicide.

"Obviously because he is involved," she rebutted immediately, "though, if it was that skinny white haired boy, I'd be more amused. Little weirdo that one, I think they're cheering for him for some unknown reason." Meiyu raised her brow, her irises moving to refer to the group of girls not too far from the pair, her face grimacing in the process. Had she succumb to that level of desperate an intervention would definitely be needed, preferably, she would rather perish. The new atmosphere, particularly with very few good looking people roaming around, only stressed the young girl, partially fearing for the person she would become if she ever were to behave in such a disgraceful manner, cheering for a man.

To her displeasure, Aodhan had a blatantly different idea, almost shoving an odd textured canvas with a marker into her hands, despite how quickly she accepted the objects, her gaze trailing down to the newfound equipment in her hands. His suggestion to make signs forced her eyes to widen in horror, her eyes immediately meeting him once more in sheer shock.

Dumbfounded, her lips parted, yet, the words remained unfathomable. Once more, she had fallen for bait, the mere thought that she failed to realise yet another scheme quickly angered her, brows furrowing in a mixture of anger and discontent.

"You realise, good luck charms don't need to be the most obvious, besides, he has a game to win." Meiyu scoffed, turning her head to fixate on the now racing brooms, puzzled at how suddenly, there was two of him. "Stupid creatures." She uttered to herself, her vocal tone low enough to ensure nobody heard. Hogwarts opening their gates to creatures only enabled all walks of life to roam like some of the hideous trolls lurking around the castle, even if they were 'rare' like Metamorphmagi, the likes of whom, should not be allowed to participate in sport for that reason alone. Clearly awful at sport they have to resort to pretending to be someone who actually knew what they were doing.

It was no use disputing the ordeal, he might present an even worse idea, vocally cheering. Sighing at another loss she had the misfortune of succumbing to, she placed the white sheet on her legs, using the marker to briefly hover over the foreign sheet as Meiyu contemplated what to write. Unfortunately, she knew nothing about him. Besides, it was unlikely he would even see what she wrote, immediately reassuring her. Deciding on 'PROVE THEM ALL WRONG!!', vaguely remembering their first encounter and how the once distance words finally resonated with her.

"Perfect, just perfect." Meiyu mumbled, smiling to herself contently, assuming it would do the trick if he could even see. Very motivational words, perhaps her wisest yet. It was just enough, even though for his eyes primarily, to prevent potential loyalty accusations within her own house, though, she could not care for what the lions thought, they were bound to lose, again.

As one would expect, the race picked up speed. Literally. Emily was afraid of blinking given how fast everyone was flying, aside from one Gryffindor competitor who seemed frozen in place at the starting line.

Colin and Ava zipped around the track like bolts of electric. However, there would be the odd break in pacing where both of them would get hit, either by the environment around them or after a blatching match with their opposing team. Emily winced when something hit them or vice versa.

But even at that, the rush of excitement they had was evident just by their cheers alone. Emily could hear Colin howling and yelling merrily from all the way where she sat in the spectator seats. Hearing his voice rise and dip like a fly buzzing past a microphone as he sped around the course made her giggle.

Feeding off the energy from the race track and the supportive cheers and chants from within the spectator crowd helped Emily fight off the cold weather, slowly warming up as she remained bundled in the layers loaned to her.

When Colin and Ava zoomed passed again, Emily hollered in support. Despite the hits and bumps, they both might actually pull it off for the Slytherin team.

"WAHOO! Go Colin! Go Ava!" she lauded, waving as the race continued. "You've got this! Just don't crash into anything!!"

"—though, if it was that skinny white haired boy, I'd be more amused. Little weirdo that one, I think they're cheering for him for some unknown reason."

Skinny white what?

At that moment, the youth couldn't stop his gaze from following Meiyu's own, soaking in the small cluster of students rallying for what seemed to be their friend. Or acquaintance? Regardless, it caused Aodhan to wonder if the lioness simply despised any semblance of happiness. That is, until he heard the supposed target of those cheers start howling and—yes, perhaps Meiyu had a genuine point going. He consequently snorted at the thought, covering it up with an obviously, painfully, fake cough.

"Maybe he's cosplaying a wolf?" he spoke in a hopeful yet shaky tone of voice, once again betrayed by the humor bubbling up within his chest, "You know, like a Furry would? The ones you see online over Tiktok or something. Which—okay, that doesn't help the 'weirdo' case, but..." There was a small sense of hypocrisy buzzing around within his skull, something he chose to ignore in favor of giggling away like a baby hyena.

The laughter dissipated into a mini aura of concentration, foreign for someone like him, by the time his companion "gracefully" accepted the items and spoke up once more. He was already brainstorming on what to sketch, his practiced drawing skills coming to good use, and the immediacy of his actions caused him to miss the bewilderment on Meiyu's face. So what a pleasant surprise it was to look over and come face to face with sheer displeasure.

And really, his subsequent, obnoxious cackling should have come at no surprise in contrast. She was hilarious.

"Nah! Trust me, he'll love knowing he has such a big fan. That power up will, like, double! And he'll be guaranteed to win," he asserted, not believing a word coming out of his own mouth. He was far too pleased by the fact she was giving in to his antics, even with her odd mumblings he interpreted as complaints. He grinned, mischievous yet brilliant, as she got to work on her sign.

Not wanting to be outdone, he quickly refocused on his own, an idea of his final product being formulated within seconds. Though... he might have gotten too engrossed in the activity, not looking up even once until he was completely finished. It defeated the entire purpose of them being present, but oh well. Drawing was just too fun for him to care.

On his paper were the words 'SHOW THEM HOW YOU BALL, BALL BOY,' with the vague imagery of a basketball player—one that had features very reminiscent of "Ball Boy"—performing a slam dunk. It wouldn't even make sense to anyone without a muggle background, and yet Aodhan was staring at his art with pride, fully expecting onlookers to understand.

"Oh yeah, Da Vinci would be jealous of this bad boy for sure," he said before he shifted his gaze onto Meiyu's work. However, the youth could only tilt his head with confusion, not sure what to make of the message she had crafted. Prove who wrong? ... The other Gryffindor students wanting Slytherin to lose?

"Jeez. Do you hate our house that much?" he questioned with a raised brow, curious on how the lioness was coping should his assumption be true. While waiting for a response, he lazily waved his makeshift banner around in the air, finally giving the racers a fraction of their due attention. To say the least, he was... pleasantly surprised.

There was certainly a level of understanding and strategy that went over his head, but the sport still contained a good amount of spectacle, the exact stuff he craved, and that forced the boy into leaning forward. He went as far as tapping and lightly shoving Meiyu at different high points during the race to get her attention, and especially when he noticed—

"What are they feeding your ball boy, huh? He's been in the lead the entire time. What the hell!" he exclaimed, the adrenaline causing words to tumble out his mouth, "So much for that 'power boost.' Dude got overpowered. Actually, he should change his name to Sonic. And dye his hair blue while he's at it."
