After a busy morning in which all teams had the opportunity to brew their best potions, using all their knowledge and best of skills, professors Melisande Lennox and @Méabh Regan would be waiting for the brave and daring contestants at the Quidditch Stadium. Alongside them was the prestigious and international panel of judges, constituted by Hogwarts' Hjørdis Jensen and Dusana Sabo, Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbatons, Évodie Ndoto Masudi of Uagadou and Hugo da Silva[NPC] former Castelobruxo's potions professor and a renown author.

It was mid-autumn and the Scottish highlands would welcome them with gray skies and a very unpleasant cold wind. Meli looked at the heavy clouds forming a dense blanket that threatened to dissolve into raindrops and hoped that wouldn't happen for a while longer. Behind her, the representatives of the various schools participating in the tournament were sitting comfortably, they would be the ones who would evaluate the performance of all the teams and they would be the ones who would decide the winner in the end. Who among them would deserve to walk out of the stadium with a shiny new golden cauldron and bring honor and prestige to their names? Melisande knew that she flinched a little when she saw some of the potions being prepared...now she only could hope for the best!

The Quidditch Stadium was completely renovated and prepared to receive the event. In it, three different sections could be found, each prepared for the challenges corresponding to each age group.
Second Section:
There in the second third of the Stadium was a clearing, where in the centre was a cozy wooden cabin with a glass roof that offered spectators visibility into the humble building. It was a small hut, it only took up space for one internal room. The cabin was surrounded by a group of trees, but the vegetation was not as dense as it looked like in the first third of the stadium.

Once inside the cabin, those who would cross the threshold would find themselves surrounded by a dark, cold space provided by by the shade of the surrounding vegetation. The cabin was dimly lit, the only sources of light were three round fireplaces that were almost out and the embers were glowing weakly. The students knew what they would be looking for inside the cabin, so Melisande hoped that they would know what they should be looking for coming from the dying embers. The furthest corners of the hut were silent. For now... But perhaps that was where the brave participants could find what they were looking for? Once the adventurous students entered the inviting clearing their mission would prove to be quite difficult, of course! To achieve prestige the challenges could not be easy to overcome!

Melisande and Méabh were standing together, making themselves noticed among the seated spectators, as they waited for all the competition participants to arrive at the place where the last part of the Potions Championship would be held. Once all the contestants were present, Meli, with her voice amplified by the Sonorus spell, would finally address everyone present, "Dear students and honorer guests, welcome to the third and final part of the Potions Championship. As you can see, in front of you is not the usual sight that we are used to finding inside our Quidditch Stadium. The organisation of this event took liberties and transformed it into a more suitable setting for this contest.”

“Inside that small wooden cabin,” Meli continued pointing with her hand and outstretched arm towards the clearing in the middle of the Stadium, “There are three or two Ashwinders waiting for giving you a warm welcome to theirs nests. Your goal, is to steal two or three ashwinder eggs without setting the whole place on fire. You’ll need to use all your courage and wits to succeed in this dangerous mission."

"Completing your task should be your main goal, but let me remind you that you’ll lose points if you get yourself harmed or any of the Ashwinders. I hope you’ve done your best and brewed the most outstanding potions!” She merrily ended saying, giving the crowd one of her brightest smiles. It certainly would be entertaining!

“So when you are ready…” She started again, looking at the participating students with an encouraging nod and smile, “Remember you will only have one hour to finish this challenge, when the time is over so it is your opportunity to succeed. Time starts as soon as you enter your challenge field. In your case, as soon as you cross the gate in the fence surrounding the clearing. Time will stop counting when you return."

"Pay attention to your surroundings, remember everything you have learned so far, trust your companions and I’m sure you’ll be victorious! Good luck!”
Then she would give them a signal, letting them know that they were free to enter the forest and start their challenge.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
THIRD CHALLENGE FOR 3RD AND 4TH YEAR

- Retrieve Ashwinder eggs from a wooden cabin. Be careful - the parents are still around.

- The groups will be judged and rated by a prestigious panel of international wizards, by the following criteria:
1. Quality of the potions
2. Successful completion of the task
3. How fast they finished the task
4. Injuries and other harm to the competitors
5. Injuries and other harm to the beasts
jjjj
- The tasks will be performed in the same groups that brewed the potions in the first and second part. Each member of the group will have one dose of each of the two potions they brewed to use - but be careful, their effect will depend on the success of the brewing stage, and a bad brew might harm more than help!
(This potion is IC only and only usable for this thread - there is no potion item associated with this.)

- The event has a total of three moderated rounds, after which the time is up! Your characters can perform one moderated action per round (incl. casting spells - think adventure threads, balls, sports etc.). Using a potion as a bonus action (can be performed additionally to the moderated action). You can use both potions in the same round, in this case one potion counts as the first moderated action and the second as a bonus action. Will your strategy lead to victory?

- Moderations take place roughly weekly. The deadline for posting is six days (144 hours) after the moderation is posted. The word requirement is 200 words per post.

- The top team of each age group is crowned victor and earns eternal glory for their schools. And of course, a magnificent golden Cauldron!

- OOC reward: One dose of a potion depending on your age group for every participant who has posted in every moderation round:
1-2nd Year: Fire Breathing Potion
3-4th Year: Invisibility Potion
5-7th Year: Strengthening Solution

October 2024 --- Potions Championship Final Task!

"Shutit both of you!" Colin called out to Liam and Cursa as they parted. Those two up to the stands to observe and cheer; Colin to find AngelFyre and to at last set their Cunning and Brilliant Plan into motion! Right! All they had to do was snag some eggs really quick, not set a cabin on fire and preferably not die whilst doing so. "Easy, right Fyre! We've totally got this!"

First they had to make sure they brought everything over from the Great Hall. Colin called out the list and waited for AngelFyre to confirm it was in their possession: "Blackfire Potion?" "Check!" "Burn Healing Paste?" "Check!" "Wands?" "Check!" "Extra pair of shoots?" "Colin! This is serious!" Colin smirked at AngelFyre's expression. Colin may not know what all the Muggle things are, but he does pay attention when AngelFyre tries to explain things to him! "Heheh! Dragonhide gloves?" "Check!"

"Right! Let's protect the ashwinders, get the eggs and! Let's do it before Ashwood, Barfield and Company even know what happened!"

Flashing his best smile to AngelFyre, and showing off all four fangs, Colin slipped his wand from its sheath tucked up his right sleeve. Sticking his arm straight up in the air, he started swirling it round in great arcs, saying: "Metelojinx!". Once his partner cast her spell, they both took their vials of blackfire potion and, toasting what was sure to be a Most Excellent Victory, Colin tipped his back and drank it down!

Colin practically danced with excitement! Unlike waiting around for days to pass while a potion brewed, this part of the challenge was pure adventure! Cast a few spell, down a couple potions and rush in to sniff out and seize the prized ashwinder eggs! All without setting the entire quidditch pitch on fire! What could be more fun than that? Well, doing it with his best friend, of course, Colin thought!

The competition was stiff, Colin knew well. Both of the other teams featured strong racers and quidditch players. But only one team featured the dynamic duo of Colin McCoire and AngelFyre McCubbin! Surely, theirs would be the recipe for spectacular victory or else utter and complete defeat!

October 2024 - The International Potions Championship

AngelFyre had not wanted to mention a thing to Colin, but she was not feeling at the top of her game. Now, standing before the cabin was the not the time to tell him this, or maybe it was. If she could not hold up her end of the deal, they would forfeit their chance at that golden cauldron, and that was just unacceptable. THIS was the part of the Championship she knew he was most looking forward to, so she made the decision, for good or bad, to stay silent on her condition.

"Okay, Colin, we can do this. Just like we planned. We try to throw a deluge of rain on the cabin before going in, thereby hoping to prevent the cabin from going up in flames if we lose control of the eggs or the parents." She was happy to see his excitement, and listened as he called out their equipment. "Check. Check. We have it all, Woofy. Looks like it is go time."

She stood by as he drew his wand and cast his Metelojinx. Magic coursed out of his wand, but AngelFyre did not wait to see if it was what was needed. She felt an urgency to do her part, while she still could. "Caelum Muto!" she roared, and the magic moved through her arm and and out of the tip of her wand....

She smiled. They both could not fail, surely, but if one of those spells failed, she hoped it was hers. They needed Colin's to work or hers made no difference whatsoever.

She looked at him and unstoppered her potion. "Cheers, Woofy!" She closed her eyes and drank down the blackfire potion. "Please God, please let it stay down." For a terrifying moment it looked like it might not.

"Well, I guess now we see how well we've done, yeah?" Onward to glorious victory! Or painful defeat." She arched a brow at him as they both headed for the cabin door.

Round: 2
The icy wind continued to blow around the stadium, unwilling to show its mercy to all the excited participants and spectators. Meli suppressed a shiver as a delicate thread of cold air dared to penetrate the fabric of her scarf. With her bright sapphire eyes, she scanned the stadium field, not wanting to miss anything that was happening, both for her own amusement and entertainment, but also so that she could act quickly if something was going in the wrong direction. There ere too many variables that could make that competition turn to the wrong way.

It was interesting to see how her students thought in such different and creative strategies to overcome their challenges. Colin McCoire, for example, thought it was a good idea to cast the raining spell over the cabin. Interesting choice...why over it and not inside it where the fires would start?
Rolls:
Metelojinx WDC:12
d20+11=15 Success
Inside the small clearing, raindrops began to fall onto the ground, leaving it slippery with puddles of water and mud.
Setting Rolls:
50% chances that one of the Ashwinder eggs will start catch fire [11-20]:
d20=10
d20=2
Lucky you, non of the eggs seemed to feel disturbed by your rain and presence.
Spot ashy trails of Ashwinder - WDC:10
d20(13)+11=24 / d20(12)+11=23 / d20(5)+11=16 / d20(14)+11=25
Colin found the four trails of ash left by the Aswinders when they left the dying circular fireplaces
Spot one or both eggs - WDC:20
d20(1)+11=12 / d20(6)+11=17
Colin was not able to find any of the eggs.
Summary:
- It’s raining over the cabin, the ground is muddy and slippery in the clearing;
- Non of the eggs caught fire;
- Colin found 4 trails of ashes;
- Colin saw non of the eggs.

October 2024 - The International Potions Championship

”Do NOT move!” she barked out. They had no sooner taken a couple of steps before the skies opened up and the clouds began to purge themselves of the blessed rain now pelting them, the cabin, and the ground around them. AngelFyre was only mildly aware of that bit of success as a purging of another kind was threatening to take place imminently, and this one would be of a much less welcome nature. Darting off to the side of the cabin and behind a tree, she was mortified by three things in the moment: 1) the humiliation of throwing up in public; 2) the knowledge that any protection she might have been afforded by the black fire potion they had been so careful to brew had just been spewed out to create a licorice colored puddle of its own; and 3) the realization that she single-handedly had probably already doomed their chances at success.

Well that is just fanfreakingtasitc!

When she was finally able to raise her head, disgusted as she was about her public embarrassment as a public health nuisance, she had to admit to feeling a lot better. Grandma Ruth had always insisted on having breath mints with her, and AngelFyre could not deny that would have been lovely in this moment. A Ginger Newt would fit the bill nicely and help settle her tummy while freshening her breath, but AngelFyre had simply never been able to coax herself to bite into one because their eyes actually moved. Moved! There was a barbarism behind the sense of humor that created them that her animal loving self simply could not abide. So she instead reached into her pocket to settle for a Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum. It may help with her breath, but probably not enough for her lycanthropic buddy.

Still leaning against the tree, trying to get her shakiness under control, she turned around to face Colin. Locks of his platinum white hair were now plastered to his forehead and cheeks, as she assumed hers were as well, but it was a look of confusion that was most prominent upon his face. She raised a hand, waving him over.

He trotted over in a flash. “I am so sorry, Woofy. I have no idea if it was the smell of the flobberworm mucus when we were brewing, or something else, but I have not been feeling in peak condition since arriving at the Stadium. Worse still is the fact that I just spewed my black fire potion out of my system. It felt like the scene from The Exorcist, but I doubt it was anywhere near as dramatic,” and she smiled weakly at him, knowing he would have no inkling about the iconic brilliance of her cinematic reference.

“The good news is I feel better, for now at least. The bad news is that I am no longer protected from the ashwinders or from their fiery eggs.” She grimaced at that last statement. “We can proceed, but I am not operating on all cylinders.”

The idea of proceeding was not delighting her, but one thing AngelFyre was not was a quitter. She could not remember telling Colin of her reasons for leaving duelling, but it had everything to do with fire. Fire hurt like bloody hell... the real thing, not her euphemism of h-e-double-hockey-sticks. Still, she knew she had weathered it before and could weather it again. She just preferred not to have to if at all possible.

An orange leaf then fell from one of the branches above them, landing in Colin’s hair. That prompted AngelFyre to look up. What she saw gave her a germ of an idea that might offer her, and Colin, the protection they needed, and may just keep the cabin from burning down around them.

“Woofy, we wanted a shot at an out of the box solution, and I think we may have stumbled on one, literally and figuratively. What do you think about taking on this challenge from outside and above this boxy little cabin instead of inside and below its glass roof?” and she started twirling a strand of her wet hair around her fingers, a surefyre (one should pardon the pun and double entendre) indication that she was deep in thought. She motioned for him to follow her, and they ran to the opposite side of the cabin. She smiled in delight as there was another tree close to the cabin, but not too close.

“This could be brilliant,” she exclaimed excitedly, grasping his forearm and squeezing it in her enthusiasm. “We still have our initial plan, and I am good with that, but ponder this quickly. We both climb a tree on either side of the cabin and position ourselves on the lowest overhanging branches. The roof is glass, so we will get to see inside the cabin from a safe distance.” She stooped down and picked up some sizeable rocks and held them in both hands for him to see. “We could pitch these down upon the glass roof, hopefully avoiding the parents and the eggs, and the beauty of it is that it allows the rain to fall inside the cabin as well.” She smiled brightly at him, obviously happier with this prospect than that of getting turned into a charcoal briquette inside the cabin.

“The rest of our strategy remains in play. What do you think?”

October 2024 --- Potions Championship Final Task!

"YEEEEEE!!!" Colin squeaked! It was raining! Colin and AngelFyre's Brilliant and Cunning Plan was coming to fruition!

Or utter ruin... Only time and quick action would tell!

Colin splashed about in the mud happily before charging headlong towards the cabin door! "DO NOT MOVE!" AngelFyre's voice barked in command. Something deep inside Colin's wolfy psyche heeded the order instantly! He skidded to a halt as if on a leash!

"But---!"

"Change of plan!"

"Wh--- Yeep!" His partner brushed past him and headed over towards a tree. Colin followed. Apparently, AngelFyre's idea of a plan B was to barf up her blackfire potion all over the place. Colin sighed dramatically. "Welp. There goes fourteen and a half hours of dreadful potion brewing! But you know what they say: better than in, eh Fyre?" Poor AngelFyre. Colin really doubted this was actually part of the plan. "Somehow, Fyre, I think you might be just a bit off script here? Unless ashwinders are attracted to fresh spew?"

If looks could kill, her expression, when she finally able to raise her head, would have struck Colin down! "Would you like a ginger newt? I think I've got one somewhere in me satchel. I always thought it brilliant the way their eyes move about! Hah! We used to love teasing little Aoife by squishing their heads! We'd tell her the newts were alive and everything!"

Colin crouched down an sniffed delicately at the mess. She waved him over closer to the tree she had been leaning against. She explained how she'd barfed up her potion. "Aye. I smelled that straight away. You never know if perhaps one of the ingredients was a bit off." Colin shrugged. He reckoned that was all part of the magic of potions!

He smiled though, when AngelFyre started talking to him in Muggle. Something about an exerciser. Kind of queer the things Muggleborns knew about and alluded to. It sounded like it must be some kind of strange contraption or other. "Um. What does an exerciser have to do with barfing, Fyre?" he asked. She didn't answer, but in stead started talking about hopping on grain silos. That was the only thing cylindrical Colin could possibly think of that she might want do something on top of. Colin shook his head. he really did wonder about the life of a Muggleborn. How did one even hop up on a grain silo anyway? And did all Muggles have grain silos to hop onto?

Clearly, his bestie wasn't going explain this most baffling aspect of muggledom to him. In stead, she looked up. So Colin looked up into the sky as well. It was raining. Colin laughed. "I love the rain!"

AngelFyre said the they should try shooting at a solution that wasn't in a box. Colin's gaze returned to AngelFyre's pretty face. He was about to ask why they should shoot at boxes. "But --- Fyre, what did the boxes do to us---?" But as was often the case with AngelFyre, when she had a brilliant idea, no amount of questioning would stop her!

"What do you think about taking on this challenge from outside and above this boxy little cabin instead of inside and below its glass roof?” She grabbed his arm and dragged him to the other side of the cabin! There was another tree there. Mercifully free of spewed potion. Colin was beginning to think that he might actually be thinking what AngelFyre was thinking. Attack from above? After all, the roof was glass --- it might just work!

Colin smirked.

An idea formed in his head. If it worked, he might yet dump some rain on Miss Ashwinder herself! AngelFyre bent down and picked up some rocks as she quickly outlined her plan. Nope. They were speaking the same language; but clearly, they were often worlds apart, Colin and AngelFyre. She held the rocks for him to inspect. Colin very gently picked the rocks from her hands and fall. He smirked again. "Quarzicum, Fyre. We're wizards. We have spells for this kind of thing!"

He thought for a moment. Attacking from outside was brilliant. They wouldn't have to get too close to either the ashwinders or the eggs. "Brilliant!" Colin cried as he scrambled up the tree! "Oi! You're right! I get a nice view up here! I can see everyone in the stands and everything!" A piercing glare from AngelFyre brought a smile to his face. Clearly, she wasn't waiting for a report on the activities of the spectators!

Colin laughed. "Oh. Whoa! I can see the ash trails inside the cabin! Good thing the roof is glass! Should be easy to fix that, Fyre!" Colin said, drawing his wand from its sheath, taking aim at the glass roof of the cabin. "QUARZICUM!"

October 2024 - The International Potions Championship

Soldiering through the inevitable good-natured jabs was to be expected given who her bestie was. It was just his way, and honestly, she would not change a thing about him. But her mind was scrambling in a million different directions in the moment as to how they could possibly pull a rabbit out of this hat now. Colin operated on impulse; AngelFyre acted after deliberation. When this competition was behind them, and she was feeling stronger and distanced from the immediacy of her humiliation, she would likely join in with hearty laughter at his ribbing. In the meantime, she could not help but shoot him a STAAAAAHHHHPPPP it look as he was going on about torturing poor little Aoife with the demise of ginger newts. AngelFyre surmised there was some trauma bonding the two girls could do over that subject, and probably many more, but that was a can to be kicked down the road later.

She did have to smile at his comment about her being "off script". She liked the symmetry of that paired with her Exorcist allusion, especially since he confirmed her thought that he would have zero clue what the heck she was talking about. For a change it was Colin yammering on instead of her, and that was comforting for the time being as she collected her strength and thoughts.

Some phrases could not help but gently attempt to tug her attention away from formulating a rescue plan for their bid to claim that coveted Golden Cauldron, but she held strong to the notion of dealing with Muggle-born Malarkey and Pure-blood Poppycock after they found out whether they survived this ordeal or not.... or simply just wished that they had not due to excruciating, searing pain!

After splashing around in the rain and being a leaf catcher in the process, Colin inspired the crazy-but-it-just-might-work idea of the century. After she spilled details of the plan... and not her guts this time... he looked more than amenable to Plan B. She knew he liked it when he smirked. If he had done anything but tease her, it would have told her he had his doubts, but he was all in from the start. She thought climbing a tree and busting a glass roof would appeal to his Dr. Destructo instincts.

But his smirk was for more than liking her plan. He reminded her, in that calm, patient tone one might use when speaking with a particularly dense child that raining rocks down upon the glass roof, as if from a B-52 bomber, was unnecessary because they were both magic. Like Doh! Okay. He did have her there. Her first go to was almost always muggle solutions, but that was fine because there was generally a magic solution in the background as well. Her idea had been good, but his idea had been GREAT! And the beauty of it was that it would be so much quieter and present fewer opportunities to harm the ashwinders or their eggs with the rocks or the broken glass shards. Heck, the additional rain that would enter the cabin had to help prevent any conflagrations from starting... but so might the sand... as it was always a good fire retardant as anyone who had ever put out a camp fire would know.

Feeling better immediately, she hurried to his side and kissed his cheek and then hooked her arm in his, dancing in the rain ever so briefly. "That is simply bloody genius, Woofy!" and she laughed as they turned a couple of times and then stopped to link opposite arms and turned the other direction a few more spins. "I am feeling better and better about that Golden Cauldron sitting on the shelf above my desk in my dorm room," she goaded him with merrily as they headed off to their respective trees. "We can work out a joint custody arrangement for you later. I am thinking every other weekend and Wednesday nights."

Colin could not see it, but she truly tickled herself with that last bazinga! out to her pal. Things were really looking up, and so was she as she quickly scrambled up the tree. He was a little farther along his branch that overlooked the roof than she was on hers, and she was still inch-worming her way out when she heard the fantastic news that he had already spotted four of their ashy trails. He quickly pointed them out to her and she nodded.

"Fantastic job, Colin! Okay, I see where the trails are, too. Thanks! We are likely to lose them to the rain and the sand after you play Mr. Sandman and bring the roof down, but I will shine a little light on the subject that hopefully reveals where those eggs are." She had just gotten to a secure place on the branch where she could hook her feet, when she heard Colin cast his "Quarzicum" down on the roof.

Not wanting to waste any time if things should not go as planned, AngelFyre snapped her wrist and Godshall was loosed from its holster and slipped easily into her palm. Knowing Simon was in the audience, and this would truly hurt his eyes, she spoke to him silently, but directly, through their new Binding Mark. “Love, close your eyes, now. I am about to cast Lumos Maxima and I do not want your eyes hurt. You may not wish to look upon our cabin for a while either. I will let you know when the light has extinguished.” And with that, AngelFyre quickly incanted “Lumos Maxima!” and flicked Godshall forward and then pulled him back towards herself before flicking him forward yet again, aiming down at the area where Colin had pointed out two of the ash trails heading off into a corner. "Okay. Let us see what we shall see."

If what we have learned about Ashwinders is correct, there should be eggs at the end of that trail, leading into the coldest and darkest part of the cabin, she reminded herself. Then she grinned, happy for the thrill of the adventure they had set upon and the excruciating anticipation of not knowing how it was all going to end. Still, she was relishing it all the same, maybe even feeling a bit of the excitement Vale Ashwood always seemed to feel at the prospect of discovering Ashwinders, but for entirely different reasons.

Looking across to Woofy, she gave a thumbs up and an unexpected “OwwooWoOwOo” to her comrade in arms... just because.

Round: 2
Melisande couldn't deny that she was somewhat impressed by the duo and the strategy they managed to plan. Even after some adversities, namely with the ingestion of a certain potion - Melisande could not blame the girl, since she herself was not a big fan of taking potions, even if she enjoyed preparing them - the team formed by Colin and Angelfyre had managed to find an interesting way to complete their task.
Setting Rolls:
50% chances that the eggs will catch fire [11-20]:
d20= 9 | d20=20
- One of the eggs will start to spread its flames. It gives 10 damage to Colin (Black Fire Potion) and 30 damage to AF.
Spells:
Colin cast Quarzicum [WDC: 10]:
d20(13)+11=24 Success
- The glass roof transfigurates into sand and falls over the cabin's floor. 10% chances that the fire will continue to spread on the next round instead of 50%.
AngelFyre cast Lumos Maxima [WDC: 11]:
d20(8)+10=18 Success
- They gained +1 to all wisdom rolls.
However, despite the incredible strategy, one of the eggs managed to catch fire and begin to spread a glow of flames around it. Some smoke began to escape through the now open roof, and managed to affect the competitors who were lurking above it.
Colin
Spot the eggs [WDC: 20]:
d20(16)+11(+1)=28
d20(3)+11(+1)=15
- Colin saw one of the eggs
AngelFyre
Spot the remaining two ash trails [WDC:10]:
d20(9)+10(+1)=20
d20(12)+10(+1)=23
- AF saw all the ash trails
Spot the eggs [WDC: 20]:
d20(7)+10(+1)=18
d20(14)+10(+1)=25
- AF saw one of the eggs.
With the precious help of AF's Lumos Maxima, the two friends managed to locate the remaining traces of ash and each managed to find one of the eggs inside their nests protected by their parents.

October 2024 - The International Potions Championship

There was simply no denying that things went incredibly well for them that go around. So well, in fact, that no matter how she tried to contain her glee, AngelFyre could not wipe the smile from her face. She was proud of them. Even if they still managed to lose this championship, and that was entirely possible, she and Colin would always have that fabulous memory of tactical brilliance. Nothing could ever take that away from either of them. It had been epic.

As a girl of faith, she did not believe in coincidences. Disgorging the potion was likely supposed to happen, unpleasant and disappointing as it had been. Had it not, they never would have been forced to come up with an alternative plan, and the truth was, their alternate plan was so much more elegant and statistically safer than the first one had ever been. As she cast her Lumos Maxima down into the cabin, she had one of those very rare moments she occasionally got when she was flying in her broom races that felt like an inner voice or a whisper directing her in a key situation. That inner voice had told her this time that both of their potions had been successful, and she had no reason to disbelieve herself. The voice had not steered her wrong thus far, and it actually was a relief to know that both of their potions had been successful. That just meant there was one less metric they needed to worry about failing in their quest, and if they needed it, they knew they could count on their burn healing paste to help and not worsen their situation.

She wished she had had more time to appreciate the awe-inspiring scene of Colin's Quarzicum turning the glass roof seamlessly into sand, but they were in a race against the clock as well as against Ashwinders. When first cast, AngelFyre saw the bright light of her Lumos Maxima move though the drifting sand as it fell. Before the ash trails disappeared beneath the sand, or turned to nondescript, sooty sludge from the rain, she caught a clear view of the four Ashwinder trails for herself. They were right where Colin had said, and once the light entered the cabin, it lit them up perfectly. It also made it possible to see the eggs.

She heard Colin exclaim from his branch that he saw and egg and right on the heels of that, she also saw one. The only downside to their whole endeavor, and it definitely was a downside, was that this egg had ignited. Luckily there was sand below it and rain coming down on and around it, but she knew they needed to get it out of the cabin like 10 minutes ago. She adjusted herself on her limb, and had Godshall out and ready to go.

"Okay, love," she started as she silently contacted her sweetheart as she promised him she would. "The light is still maintained, but there is one egg burning within the cabin that is causing enough smoke that I think you can safely look down at the cabin now without too much, if any, pain. Keep us in your thoughts. We are so close to pulling this off!"

It was at that moment that a thin, wispy plume of black smoke was coming out of the cabin when a shift in the wind brought it over in their direction. Try as she might to avoid it, some of it caught in the back of her throat momentarily. She waited it out as best she could, burying her nose and mouth in her sleeve, having the material act as a temporary filter. She was glad they were out here in the rain and the mostly fresh air instead of down in the cabin breathing all that in and maybe choking on it. When the breeze shifted yet again, but this time away from them, she hurriedly incanted "Wingardium Leviosa!" and swished her wand in the direction of the burning egg. It turned over somewhere behind the cordoned area of her mind that was completely focused on lifting the egg up and out of that cabin through its transfigured roof that the movement of the wand for this spell always reminded her of a snake about to strike.

Well, it was her hope that this particular snake about to strike would hit its intended mark, the fiery egg, before it could start a full blown conflagration and ruin their chances of winning this thing. Their plan was to levitate both eggs up and out, whether on fire or not, and guide them carefully down to one of the water puddles below, yet away from the cabin. Then they would scramble down from their respective trees, slather on any burn healing paste to help heal any injuries they may have encountered along the way, and don their dragon hide protective gloves before reaching to pick up their prized Ashwinder eggs from their puddles before carrying them successfully out of their gated area. She could so clearly visualize her ecstatic partner loping ahead of her and then back in her direction, only to run circles around her... literally... as they both approached the judges to deliver their eggs.

AngelFyre had visualized it all, a few times over since the inception of their plan B went into effect, but right now, all of her focus was on that single, burning egg and levitating it successfully out of that blasted, wooden cabin. It was make it or break it time, and she knew she had it in her to make it. And so did Colin. They just needed to keep their eyes on the prize, and by that, she definitely did not mean that coveted Golden Cauldron.

At least not yet.

October 2024 --- Potions Championship Final Task!

"OWOOooOOOOoooOOoo!!" Colin responded to AngelFyre's howl! He had scampered up into the tree opposite hers, from where he could make out not only the interior of the cabin, but also her smile! This was the kind of chaos Colin throve in: make a plan, it goes sideways; scrape together an alternative, that falls to pieces; then do something crazy, and so far it was working! They just had to persevere to the end.

Colin balanced on the stout limb. It was no different than broom surfing, really. The thick limb had a little bounce to it, but was otherwise fairly steady. Of course, the tree was unlikely to uproot itself and fly away, so he didn't have to worry about the complexities of surfing whilst moving at speed. Easy as mince pie!

At least AngelFyre really seemed to have recovered from spewing up the Plan B and could now get on with bringing the real plan to fruition! Whichever plan they were on now, at least it was working! Colin's transfiguration had worked flawlessly; AngelFyre had shed some much needed light on the situation; and now they could snag some ashwinder eggs! "I see the ash trails Woofy! And an egg!"

Colin spotted an egg too! "I've got one in sight too, sis! Looks like we'll be having incinerated ashwinder eggs for dinner! You know what? I'd try one!" Colin gave AngelFyre an impish grin. Wand still in hand, Colin turned his attention to actually retrieving the prize from its current and fiery location. He listened intently for AngelFyre to begin her incantation. Almost as one, he matched his wand motion to hers. A deft swish and flick and a call of "wingardium leviosa!" aimed at one of the eggs would bring it up out of the dust and sand on the cabin floor.

All that was left now was to guide said egg up out of the cabin and let it splash down in one of the rain puddles outside! Once that was done, Colin's plan was totally to scamper back down the tree, slather on some burn paste and engage in some serious puddle jumping! Though he had the distinct feeling that AngelFyre would remind him that they must still show off the eggs to Professors Lennox and Regan! But he would totally splash in the puddles and dance rings around AngelFyre all the while!

Main actions: Colin is casting wingardium levioosa on the egg; this will get the ashwinder eggs out of the cabin and into some nice cool water! After that, there be some much needed slathering of burn healing paste! They totally had this!
