After a busy morning in which all teams had the opportunity to brew their best potions, using all their knowledge and best of skills, professors @Melisande Lennox and Méabh Regan would be waiting for the brave and daring contestants at the Quidditch Stadium. Alongside them was the prestigious and international panel of judges, constituted by Hogwarts' @Hjørdis Jensen and @Dusana Sabo, @Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbatons, @Évodie Ndoto Masudi of Uagadou and Hugo da Silva [NPC] former Castelobruxo's potions professor and a renown author.

It was mid-autumn and the Scottish highlands would welcome them with gray skies and a very unpleasant cold wind. Meli looked at the heavy clouds forming a dense blanket that threatened to dissolve into raindrops and hoped that wouldn't happen for a while longer. Behind her, the representatives of the various schools participating in the tournament were sitting comfortably, they would be the ones who would evaluate the performance of all the teams and they would be the ones who would decide the winner in the end. Who among them would deserve to walk out of the stadium with a shiny new golden cauldron and bring honor and prestige to their names? Melisande knew that she flinched a little when she saw some of the potions being prepared...now she only could hope for the best!

The Quidditch Stadium was completely renovated and prepared to receive the event. In it, three different sections could be found, each prepared for the challenges corresponding to each age group.
First Section:
There, in the first third part of the Stadium, a dense forest had blossomed. Tall pines were separated by bushes that hid the ground from anyone looking or trying to cross the forest. Well, unfortunately for the competitors, it would be precisely on the ground that the mischievous little Red Caps would hide! Inside their holes they would wait with their bludgeons until their victims dared to penetrate the dense vegetation. Once the adventurous students entered the forest their mission would prove to be quite difficult, of course! To achieve prestige the challenges could not be easy to overcome!

Melisande and Méabh were standing together, making themselves noticed among the seated spectators, as they waited for all the competition participants to arrive at the place where the last part of the Potions Championship would be held. Once all the contestants were present, Meli, with her voice amplified by the Sonorus spell, would finally address everyone present, "Dear students and honorer guests, welcome to the third and final part of the Potions Championship. As you can see, in front of you is not the usual sight that we are used to finding inside our Quidditch Stadium. The organisation of this event took liberties and transformed it into a more suitable setting for this contest.”

“First, inside that lush green forest,” Meli continued pointing with her hand and outstretched arm towards the patch of tall trees, “There is a basket of apples that needs to be retrieved. Unfortunately, it is in the possession and custody of a group of mischievous Red Caps. You’ll need to use all your courage and wits to succeed in this dangerous mission."

"Completing your task should be your main goal, but let me remind you that you’ll lose points if you get yourself harmed or any of the Red Caps. I hope you’ve done your best and brewed the most outstanding potions!” She merrily ended saying, giving the crowd one of her brightest smiles. It certainly would be entertaining!

“So when you are ready…” She started again, looking at the youngest students with an encouraging nod and smile, “Remember you will only have one hour to finish this challenge, when the time is over so it is your opportunity to succeed. Time starts as soon as you enter your challenge field. In your case, as soon as you cross the gate in the fence surrounding the pine forest. Time will stop counting when you return."

"Pay attention to your surroundings, remember everything you have learned so far, trust your companions and I’m sure you’ll be victorious! Good luck!”
Then she would give them a signal, letting them know that they were free to enter the forest and start their challenge.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
THIRD CHALLENGE FOR 1ST AND 2ND YEAR

- Retrieve a basket of apples from a dense patch of forest - it is guarded by Red Caps.

- The groups will be judged and rated by a prestigious panel of international wizards, by the following criteria:
1. Quality of the potions
2. Successful completion of the task
3. How fast they finished the task
4. Injuries and other harm to the competitors
5. Injuries and other harm to the beasts
jjjj
- The tasks will be performed in the same groups that brewed the potions in the first and second part. Each member of the group will have one dose of each of the two potions they brewed to use - but be careful, their effect will depend on the success of the brewing stage, and a bad brew might harm more than help!
(This potion is IC only and only usable for this thread - there is no potion item associated with this.)

- The event has a total of three moderated rounds, after which the time is up! Your characters can perform one moderated action per round (incl. casting spells - think adventure threads, balls, sports etc.). Using a potion as a bonus action (can be performed additionally to the moderated action). You can use both potions in the same round, in this case one potion counts as the first moderated action and the second as a bonus action. Will your strategy lead to victory?

- Moderations take place roughly weekly. The deadline for posting is six days (144 hours) after the moderation is posted. The word requirement is 200 words per post.

- The top team of each age group is crowned victor and earns eternal glory for their schools. And of course, a magnificent golden Cauldron!

- OOC reward: One dose of a potion depending on your age group for every participant who has posted in every moderation round:
1-2nd Year: Fire Breathing Potion
3-4th Year: Invisibility Potion
5-7th Year: Strengthening Solution

The wind was howling fiercely, and a swirl of red, orange and brown was being blow to the ground. Despite the unattractive weather, scattered groups of students were out on the grounds, all heading towards the Quidditch Stadium. Elisa, too, was among those students. She had her hair tied up for the sake of keeping it out of the way, and was wearing a scarf heavily wrapped around her neck. For the rest, she wore her normal school uniform, except the shoes were changed to some more practical footwear.

Though Elisa was not a frequent visitor of the Quidditch Stadium, she could still tell from afar that something had been changed - or perhaps added. A tall, dark mass seemed to have been put right in the center of the quidditch field. At closer glance, Elisa recognised it as a dense forest - magic was the only explanation to why the trees had grown to be so tall overnight.

Slightly shivering to the sight of having to go into the eerie forest for the final task of the Potions Championship, Elisa tightened her grip on her wand and patted her pockets for the two phials of potion she had prepared with her teammates. At least we aren't doing this in the Forbidden Forest, she thought, seeking to reassure herself. Plus, there won't be any real danger, would there?

Arriving near the edge of the new-grown forest, Elisa joined the group of first and second year students, searching for her teammates Pyxis and Kaito. She listened, paying as much attention as she could, as Professor Lennox gave her speech. Then, she'd nod at her teammates and with their consent, the three would venture into the dense woods.
⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤

Action: Venturing into the forest. First casting Bubble-Producing Spell • Bullarum Immortalem to any Red Caps encountered; then using a dose of Dizziness Draught on any Red Caps encountered.
If a red cap has already been targeted by Pyxis / Kaito, target different red cap.

Before the Fall Ball, 2024
The Quidditch Pitch was not a place Pyxis frequented, but he was still sure that the thick forest covering part of its lawn wasn’t normal. If it was, he’d probably be spectating Quidditch matches more often. Alas, the forest surely full of death traps was waiting for him and his teammates and after a lengthy period of brewing potions, the snake was finally ready to complete the final part of the task. When signing up for the event, he thought all the nerves would plague him during the aforementioned potion brewing task due to his total lack of skill in that field. Instead, he found that the initial portion of the event went by with a breeze and only now was his heart palpitating in an uncomfortable way.

Pyxis drew his jacket tighter around his body to keep the cold air out as he mingled in the crowd of first and second years. His scarf was covering half his face and a hat was pulled over his head, so he hoped that Elisa and Kaito recognized him when he approached them. Listening as the professor gave the rundown for their quest again, the snake eyed the almost impenetrable foliage and wondered just how far his crew would get before they were accosted by the Red Caps. Despite his worries, the young wizard tried to calm himself down with the knowledge that like him, Kaito had a stint on the duelling team, and he had previously noticed Elisa’s name on the duelling waitlist. Thus, if their potions failed, at least their spellcasting could stop them from getting killed. Or worse… maimed.

When they were given the go-ahead, Pyxis turned to Elisa and Kaito and gave them a nod that he hoped would convey stability and strength, but probably did the exact opposite while the sweat of his palms threatened to loosen his grip on his wand. He took a deep breath before setting forth on their journey, stepping as lightly as he could over the bushes.
Action: Entering the forest. If a Red Cap appears and is not being targeted by Elisa or Kaito, Pyxis will cast Bullarum Immortalem at it and then he will splash the Dizziness Draught on it.

The day was starting to become fuller and more tiresome but Kaito knew that as sleepy as he would be by the end of it, this whole championship thing was miles better than sitting through classes. This was as exciting as school ever got and certain glory for putting in one-third of the work sounded like an awesome trade. But first, he would have to get through red caps before procuring the apples of success. If he was alone, he would probably have very little confidence in himself. But he was standing with two classmates that he trusted and while none of them knew how well their potions had turned out, Kaito had faith. Heck, they all showed up on time so that was an immediate green flag in his book.

He was less bundled up than the two, sporting only a beanie to keep his ears warm, though from the looks of the tightly packed forest they would have to pass through, he wondered if track pants would have been better than his school robes. Hoping the pine trees were enchanted to keep away bugs and the bushes weren’t spiky, he fished around in his robe pockets and pulled out both bottles containing the potions they brewed earlier. He placed one back into his pocket and kept the Dizziness Draught in hand. His other hand retrieved his wand from its sleeve and he returned Pyxis’ nervous nod.

“We’ve got this,” he cheered them on as they edged closer to the red caps’ habitat. “We’ve totally got this,” he repeated, a bit more to himself. Their first order of business was going to be taking care of those tricky creatures, so he kept his eyes peeled for any movement.

Round: 1
Wrapped tightly into her cloak to protect herself from the cold weather, Méabh had cheerfully pulled out her wand to point it at her own throat. "Sonorus." She was not part of the judges' panel - as an organiser, she was busy enough, and also likely not quite impartial as she was teaching most of the kids on the pitch right now, but she intended to enjoy herself to the fullest by commentating.

"The next group of contestants is another three person group from Hogwarts. Let's give some applause to Elisa Wagner, Pyxis Hellebore, and Kaito Foxglove!" she announced.

This group was showing another very unique approach to the problem. All of them held wand and a vial of potion at the ready - but what were they going to do with them?
Perception - Spotting Red Caps: WDC 15, Spotting Apples: WDC 20
Elisa perception:

Red Caps 2

Pyxis perception:

Red Caps 2
Wis: [d20: 11] + 10 = 21
Apples
Wis: [d20: 15] + 10 = 25

Elisa sees one group of red caps, but they have no apples. Pyxis sees nothing, 404 red caps not found. Kaito sees all, including the apples.
Leaning forward slightly, Méabh squinted at what was happening between the trees. "Oh? What's that? Elisa appears to have seen something - and she's casting!"

All three Red Caps are affected.
There was a cloud of fumes billowing from the hole, and Méabh hoped her students had listened to her in class, and stayed far enough away from the hole to not be affected themselves. "Judging from the colour, this was a Dizziness Draught. But something doesn't seem quite right? Are they sure they followed all instructions correctly?"

While two Red Caps were struggling to free themselves from the flood of bubbles, the third Red Cap came stumbling from the hole, clearly not too happy about the disturbance - and promptly attempted to attack Elisa with a wooden club, having identified her as the perpetrator.

"Oh, that looked like it hurt." Was Méabh's voice too cheerful for the occasion? Perhaps. "How are our young contestants going to handle this attack?" But then they were far from done.

Pyxis had not seen any of the Red Caps hiding in their holes, but the one attacking his team mate was hard to miss.

"This Red Cap seems to have some very sharp reflexes," Méabh commented as she watched the Red Cap nimbly dodge any bubbles coming its way. "I guess something went wrong with that Dizziness Draught, eh?"

Kaito, in the meantime, had moved towards a different hole in the ground. Had he spotted more Red Caps over there? Perhaps some apples, too?
Kaito casts Bullarum Immortalem.
Wis: [d20: 1] + 10 = 11
Bubble Power?
Arc: [d20: 8] + 5 = 13
Kaito's spell backfires and the bubbles are now hindering him instead.
"Oof, that's too bad," Méabh drawled in her Irish accent. "That's a whole lot of bubbles, though."
Summary:
- Elisa spots some redcaps. They don't have any apples, she decides to make quick work of them and leaves two fighting with a flood of solid bubbles. The Dizziness Draught sadly does not work as intended and sharpens their reflexes instead. The last one does not appreciate this and hits her for 200 damage. [HP 200/400]
- Pyxis is not at his most perceptive today and only spots the red cap that is currently hitting on Elisa. In an attempt to teach him some manners, he casts more bubbles, but the creature's incredible reflexes let it dodge the attack.
- Kaito sees everything but needs to work on his spellwork. His bubbles are now hindering him instead.

Things were off to a wild start. Kaito felt like he, Pyxis, and Elisa barely made it five feet into the forest before they started making a mess. Even though that was actually their plan, he envisioned it to go a lot smoother than it did. His eyes immediately locked onto two holes in the ground. Glancing to the side, he noticed that Elisa had seen something too and was moving towards one of the holes. Perfect, he thought. He’d check out the other one. Inside were some red caps and - voila! The apples made their appearance. Now all he needed to do was pull out the bubbles as Elisa and Pyxis were hopefully also doing. Withdrawing his wand, he pointed straight at the hole, aiming to smother them in transparent orbs.

“Bullarum Immortalem!” he casted, expecting the bubbles to expel out of the tip of his wand and mosey on over to the hole. Instead, they reversed their direction and stuck to his robes. Trying to shake them off, he looked to his other teammates for help but they were also having their own problems. The hole Elisa targeted was teeming with bubbles and he just caught sight of her using the Dizziness Draught on the hole too. Suddenly, one of the red caps escaped the bubbles and ran straight towards her. He watched as the red cap struck Elisa with lightning accuracy and then expertly hopped out of the way of Pyxis’ attempt at bubbling. Hold on. Did they botch their brew? It sure looked like they did as the red cap was partially covered in liquid from the Draught but its senses seemed heightened rather than diminished. Oh shiz.

“Elisa, heads up!” Thinking faster than he ever thought before, Kaito uncapped his Dizziness Draught that he failed to use after bubbling himself. He splashed the contents of the bottle on Elisa. The girl didn’t look like she had a lot of stamina in her and they couldn’t risk her getting knocked out by the red cap, so he hoped that they could find some use from the failed potion. Then his focus went straight back to the untouched red cap hole. “Pyxis, the apples are in the other hole,” he said after getting the attention of his snake friend. “Get ready!” And with that, he brandished his wand again and prayed that the spell went to its intended target this time.

— STA 9 — EVA 5 — STR 1 — WIS 10 — ARC 5 — ACC 5 —
Action: Splashing Elisa with the Dizziness Draught, THEN (even if it missed) casting Wingardium Leviosa on the basket containing the apples. If successful, he attempts to levitate it high enough so that the red caps can't reach it but low enough that someone Pyxis-sized could.

The three second years ventured into the forest, wands held at the ready. They did not have to wait. Soon enogh the mischievous little creatures garding the apples crawled out of their holes.

It looked like the group had made the wrong decision to attack the red caps. Had they not aimed their wands at the little goblin-like creatures, those might not have raised their bludgeons at the three second years - or rather, at Elisa. Her spell successfully targeted the two red caps in the hole, but a third one emerged as she threw the potion on them. As soon as the liquid left the flask, Elisa noticed that something about it wasn't right. It was too late. The potion landed on the red caps, and instead of the awaited result it sharpened their senses.

The third red cap, obviously mad at the two attacks, launched at Elisa with surprising agility, and despite her attempt to dodge the bludgeon, the red cap's sharpened senses won over Elisa's. The young girl saw with horror the big heavy wooden stick hurling at her. The impact came, hitting her right in the stomach. She stumbled backwards, grimacing from the pain.

She straightened up, just in time to hear Kaito call her. He had the flask of failed potion in his hands and the lid was open already. After the fraction of a second's of puzzlement, Elisa understood, and could only praise Kaito's adaptation skills. He was going to use the failed potion on her to sharpen her reflexes, which would help Elisa tackle the red cap. She smiled, nodding approvingly. Then, she would let the potion spill on her and soak through her clothes without protest - indeed, she would even move towards it to make sure that it would spill on her and take effect.

404 Red Caps not found.

Where the heck are those things? Pyxis was figuratively blind as he fell behind Kaito and Elisa. Over-paranoid that something would pop straight out of the bushes, the young wizard took every step as lightly as he could. But as hard as he tried to spot something out of the ordinary, there was just nothing to see. Maybe we’re lucky. That was his foremost thought before hearing his teammates yell out their planned incantations.

Scrambling forward, Pyxis caught up with them just in time to see a Red Cap whack Elisa. Cringing at what surely looked like a solid hit, the snake’s first thought was to aim straight at the thing and prevent it from doing more damage. That’s exactly what he tried to do, but his success was nonexistent. He watched as the bubbles floated off into the trees while the Red Cap stood unharmed. His brain raced through potential solutions for this problem, but Kaito was already thinking for them. Pyxis’ head whipped towards the Gryffindor, squinting momentarily in confusion at his bubbled state, as the lad thrust his potion out towards Elisa who just… stood there and let it happen? Remind me to stay with the group next time.

Kaito’s next words were for him. He’d spotted the apples in a hole? What hole? There were holes? An error message flashed in his brain, but he followed the direction that Kaito’s wand was pointing and there was in fact, a hole! And there were apples in there. He heard the incantation of the levitation charm and knew exactly what to do… he hoped. This wordless communication thing was new to Pyxis. He retrieved the Drowsiness Draught from his robes and hustled over to the edge of the hole, waiting for those apples to come straight at him.
Action: After Kaito's actions, throwing the Drowsiness Draught in the hole with the apples. Stepping back and, if Kaito's spell is successful, grabbing the basket of apples out of the air.

Round: 2
The stadium was buzzing with chatting and cheering, and Méabh smiled at the excited atmosphere, feeling it vibrating through her, fingers to toes. They should have events like this more often - opportunities for the kids to showcase their abilities, their cunning, their quick thinking, their ability to improvise.

Much like Kaito demonstrated, after observing how their dizziness draught clearly did not cause dizziness, when he threw his own dose of the potion over Elisa's unsuspecting form. It would do the trick - boosting her agility and reactions. A moment later, he'd try to snatch the basket of apples from the Red Caps guarding it... sadly without much success, the power of his spell failing against the more mundane muscles of the Red Cap clinging to it.

Red Cap 4 keeps the apples.
"These skinny little beasts are stronger than they look!" Méabh observed, tapping a finger on her chin. "Might not be that easy to get the basket from them with brute force." Meanwhile, Elisa was, understandably, preoccupied with the Red Cap that had just effectively walloped her.
Elisa casts Take Root at the Red Cap.
Wis: [d20: 2] + 9 = 11
Arc: [d20: 5] + 8 = 13

Red Cap is rooted to the ground and needs an action to break free.
"Smart thinking," Méabh said admiringly. "No damage, but should keep it busy for a bit. Now, what's Pyxis doing?" What was Pyxis doing? Tossing a Drowsiness Draught into the hole with the apples (and Red Caps). He also seemed ready to catch a flying basked of apples (random guess), but said basket never came.

Red Cap 5 and 6 are asleep.
"Well, that might make it easier to steal the apples next time." Two Red Caps asleep, one rooted to the ground, still left three others... although two of them were still caught in bubbles.

It does.

Red Cap 4 attacks Pyxis.
Acc: [d20: 12] + 8 = 20
Eva: [d20: 9] + 5 = 14

Hit, 200 damage.
With most of the Red Caps incapacitated, there was only one taking offense at the attempt at stealing their apples - and it came out to retaliate, whacking Pyxis with a club and considerable strength. "Well, at least it abandoned the apples," Méabh observed, wincing.
Summary:
- Kaito doused Elisa with their failed dizziness draught (smart thinking), and tried and failed to levitate the apple basket from the Red Caps.
- Elisa rooted the attacking Red Cap to the ground, it is incapacitated for this round. [HP: 200/400]
- Pyxis dropped Drowsiness Draught into the Red Cap hole with the apples. Thankfully this one worked, two Red Caps are asleep. He got clubbed by the remaining wakeful Red Cap. [HP: 800/1000]
- Of the Red Caps, two are asleep (with the apples), two are still struggling with bubbles. The rooted one broke free.
