Her Story:

Alyssa Elizabeth Baker was born in the small town of Ampthill, England on August 5th, 2008 to her mother and father, Caroline and Geffrey Baker. They were an older couple, on their last few child-bearing years, and were absolutely delighted when Alyssa came begrudgingly out of the womb. Alyssa was the first and last child her parents would conceive, and so she was treated with the utmost love, and perhaps a bit of spoiling in those first years of life.

Unfortunately, every good story must have a bit of tragedy. And so, Caroline's mother, who had been a well-known master of potions in the region, and who had always been a sickly woman, passed away peacefully after a bout of Pneumonia she had simply not been able to overcome. There are some things, it seems, even magic cannot intercept. Alyssa was four years old.

Though Caroline's death was difficult to process, especially for a girl not even in primary school yet, the relationship between Alyssa and her father grew at twice the rate, and they overcame it together. Geffrey was a schoolteacher at the one upper school Ampthill shared with the neighboring town. He did not make heaps of money, but they had enough to be comfortable, living in their charming country house on an acre of land.

Alyssa spent many of her formative years exploring the lands they owned, and when every nook and cranny had been discovered, she took to the exploration of the entire town! People always thought Alyssa was a little odd, as she often over-analyzed the smallest details. A crack in the paint of the ice cream parlor, a little ant carrying a breadcrumb three times its size. Alyssa loved to wonder. She wondered how things worked, why people behaved in certain ways, and how everything came to be.

Alyssa spent so much time wondering, she didn't have much opportunity to make very many friends. She did, however, attract the attention of a small group of three friends who were very close-knit. They, like her, loved to read and play games of strategy rather than agility. They allowed her into their little group, and there she stayed, all the way until her Hogwarts acceptance letter came.

Now, Alyssa's mother had been a witch, but her father was a complete muggle, and Alyssa had been raised in the muggle world as well, with only the potion books in the family library and her memories to serve her magical knowledge. One day, at age seven, she flew into an adolescent rage quite uncharacteristically over simply taking the trash out, and a teacup sitting on a table in the adjacent room shattered into a million pieces. It was then that the Bakers knew Alyssa was indeed a witch like her mother, and the trash was forgotten as they threw a massive celebration, just the two of them.

Just after turning eleven years old, Alyssa's Hogwarts acceptance letter came in by owl, and another celebration was to be had! Caroline had graduated from Hogwarts many years ago, and Alyssa felt it her duty to carry on her mother's legacy. She hoped she would be a Ravenclaw like her mother, and absolutely could not wait to begin her studies at the best school for witchcraft and wizardry in the world.

Hopefully, she can live up to the massive expectations she's set for herself.
