The Gathering Hall had never looked more colorful. The room was covered from front to back in plants, colorful feathers, and a variety of decorations in celebration of Carnival in Rio De Janeiro. Hours had been spent with the assistance of the house elves to make the large room look the way it did now.

The students had been given a day off from classes in celebration of Carnival, giving the students to opportunity to have their own little parties throughout the day, then attend the school wide party in the evening. When the students had been informed of the celebration, they had also been encouraged to get or make their own colorful costume or outfit to wear for the occasion. If students did not have the materials to make their own, Esmeralda had almost any material available for the students to use.

The Gathering Hall was split up into two major sections. The back of the room was the most open, a dance floor and area for music to play, allowing the students to let loose and dance to the music if they wished. Around the edge of the dance floor, a few smaller tables were set up for students to sit down and rest if needed. The front of the room was where the food and drinks were set up. Tables lined the left wall, covered in traditional foods and drinks from North and South America, hoping that there was something there for everyone to enjoy. It was not simple snack foods either, there was everything from stew to burgers and fries, making this the evening meal for the students. The center of the room had more tables for the students to sit at and chat with each other.

The right side of the room was where some smaller games were situated. Board games, card games, pretty much any small game someone could find was located in this area of the room. Esmeralda had spent the most amount of time collecting these games, hoping students would be willing to play them throughout the night.

The Gathering Hall was open to students starting at 5pm, anyone entering would be met with Esmeralda standing close to the entrance giving everyone a warm greeting. Anyone still around at 11pm would be escorted back to their lodges, although students were welcome to come and go throughout the evening.

OOC Information
This will be a slightly moderated thread, meaning try not to break anything but have fun. If you have an action that needs a roll, please include it in your post and I will do a moderated post on Saturdays.

You can make up whatever board games, card games, or traditional games you want. Esmeralda is from a muggle/muggleborn household so there could be both muggle and magical games available.

Have fun! Interact with each other, this is meant to be a party

There is no better day than a day off. Jason Aguilar walked out of his room after a long day of relaxing, whistling in his casual clothes: white t-shirt and army green cargo pants. He took the food served by the house elves in his lodging house and shoved it into his mouth, "Tasted horrible! What is this shit? Yesterday's leftover?" The boy pushed his plate away while clicking his tongue, "Where are my favorite cookers?" The food served by the house elves usually suited his tongue pretty well, but for some reason not today. It tasted like cooked by new, on probation, house elves.

"Are they all busy cooking for the Carnival?" Jason immediately left the dining table, came out of his lodging house and walked towards The Gathering Hall. He was hungry and he needed food right now, food from his favorite house elves that suited his tongue.

"God dammit. Right, Carnival and its colorful costumes..." Jason clenched his fists at his sides, "Forget it, I don't need any food." Just as he was about to turn around, his stomach protested with a loud groan. "Ugh, hell." Finally Jason's feet stepped into The Gathering Hall following his stomach's desire.

Jason didn't even take five minutes in the costume section, the Brazilian Boy just glued all the darkest feathers he found to make a kind of feather scarf. He wore it before stepping into the room decorated festively, as lively as a real Carnival.

Unfortunately, the boy didn't care about all the festive atmosphere. For real, he just wanted to fill his stomach. His feet walked straight ahead, towards the food section, taking what was first captured by his eyes: burgers and fries. Trying a bite, assessing the taste, then nodding his head in satisfaction, "This is what you call food."

Paranoid.
Arno's eyes surveyed the Gathering Hall. The vibrant splendor of the Carnival theme washed all over the hall, yet his mind remained skeptical with cautious contemplation. Memories of the last school-wide event, the chaos of the Hogsmeade disaster, continued to weigh heavily on his shoulders.

The thought of those dark moments made him clench his fists in his pocket. His plan for the day was simple: blend in, stay outside of attention, enjoy the festivities, and keep a watchful eye while stuffing his face full of delicious foods, even if just to help his own paranoia. But as the hours ticked by and the excitement grew, he found it increasingly difficult to shake off the lingering sense of unease within him. This day was important for everyone else, a chance for everyone to let their hair down and revel in joy. The costumes would be a brilliant array of colors and glitz, but he had instead opted for an all black option - a stark contrast to what most would pick.

He couldn't resist the warmth of the celebration pulling him along. His stomach rumbled, reminding him that he was, after all, still a gluttonous teenager. He glanced over at the food stands. The hunger gnawed at him, and he knew he couldn't resist the allure of the feast much longer. With a sigh, he pushed off from the wall he took support on and chose to weave his way through the throngs of colorful figures. His eyes continued to remain focused on the tantalizing spread before him. He piled his plate with a bit of everything.

"A cura da minha tristeza tem nome. Ela se chama Carnaval."
The cure for my sadness has a name. She is called Carnaval!
—Brazilian Portuguese saying

Anyone who had met Manu Macedo even once knew that the sixth-year duellist held a strict wardrobe of neutrals. Greys, black, white and dark blue on occasion, some browns and greens to match the distinctly earth tones of Castelobruxo and the rainforest surrounding them - but to be caught dead in bright colours, neons and pinks and oranges and golds, was something the teenager would never do. Unless, of course, it was Carnaval.

Then all bets were off.

Having grown up in Rio de Janeiro, Carnaval was the one time Manu ever let loose - because the whole city did so with her. The break from school, both now and growing up, had always been a time for joy and laughter, music, dance, excellent food, and just pure celebration - more so growing up than now, though, since the Castelobruxo Carnaval often left something to be desired when compared to the festivities of her hometown. Still, the exactly two colourful outfits in her closet had been packed specifically for if the school decided to have a celebration this year, and the carioca person from Rio had been more than thrilled to find out that such a festival would be held in the Gathering Hall. Having spent the day mostly on her own, writing letters to family and her British pen-pal as well as practicing her duelling skills and trying - not once, not twice, but thrice to get her makeup for the evening just right (she was nowhere near as talented with the fashions as other girls in her year, whether here or across the ocean), Manu now donned her brightest, pinkest clothes and yanked her curly mess of hair into rather uncharacteristic pigtails to make an appearance in the Gathering Hall...

...only to realise, as soon as she entered, that many of the students had not read the dress-code. A huffy sigh escaped her as it occurred to her, suddenly, that of course they would not care about Carnaval - not all of the students here were Brazilian, and likely had their own cultures and festivals for which they cared far more. For many of her classmates, this was likely just a lazy break from school instead of hundreds of years of history, the beginning of Muggle Lent, and a time to celebrate one's heritage and culture.

Que pena. What a pity.

Suddenly uncomfortable with the brilliantly blush and butterfly-esque qualities of her shirt, Manu hugged her arms around her bare stomach, eyeing the food table and some of the children gorging themselves there with unhidden disgust. Hamburgers and fried potatoes... how horribly foreign. However, a plate of brigadeiros kind of like a Brazilian chocolate truffle at the end of the food table caught her eye, and she wandered that way with a watering mouth, popping one between her lips and biting down. As the rich chocolate flavour rushed across her taste buds, she caught sight of a pale, long-haired boy, probably about twelve or thirteen, creating a veritable mountain of food on a single plate nearby. His attire was entirely black, looking very much like something Manu would have worn herself on a normal day, and she felt an odd sensation somewhere between righteous frustration and jealousy come over her. If she were to have to embarrass herself in neon for the Tradition™, then others should have, as well.

Anyway, you are in Brazil, my little friend... act like it!

There hadn't been much place to store a wand in the tight-fitting outfit, but Manu had found a way, tucking it into platform black boots. Reaching down with one hand whilst pulling her leg up almost like an aptly-coloured flamingo, she freed the wand from its prison and subtly pointed it in the darkly-dressed child's direction, whispering under her breath, "Multicorfors." The clothes colour-changing spell wasn't one she used very often - in duelling, changing your opponent's robe to blue or pink wasn't going to affect them very much, or at least not as much as a good old-fashioned Knockback Jinx - but hopefully it would succeed in getting the kid a bit more into the Carnaval spirit. Or pissing him off. Either way, Manu was sure to enjoy the result.
Action: Trying to subtly change Arno's clothes' colour to some kind of neon

Esmeralda was desperate for this event to go well. She really wanted the students to like her as their new Headmistress and so far she was not sure if she was doing enough or not. So when students finally started arriving, a grin formed on her face as she greeted each of them with a smile and compliment to their outfits no matter how plain they were. While the woman had wanted the students to dress up, she knew not all of them would be comfortable in the bright and distracting outfits normally worm at Carnival.

"Beautiful feather scarf Mr. Aguilar" She greeted with a grin present on her face.

A soft left laughed at the sight of most of the students going directly to the food tables. She remembered her own time at Castelobruxo and going to the food tables as son as she would arrive at an event. The woman was social, but she loved food just as much as interacting with other people.

"Oh your costume is beautiful Miss Macedo." Esmeralda complimented the girl as she welcomed her into the Gathering Hall.

The woman would miss the beginning of the events that would follow, not seeing a wand being pulled out. What would surprised Esmeralda the most would be the suit of a student named Arno Dorian suddenly being turned a bright pink, a stark contrast to the black it originally came in. This would surely cause some problems.

One girl entered the Gathering Hall, looking festive with the full pink outfit and pigtails, showing her best participation in this event. Jason glanced at her from the corner of his eye while taking the last bite of his burger. The girl @Aly Salinger looked okay to wear that flashy color, maybe because of the confidence radiated from her eyes and gestures.

Even though he had swallowed the last bite of his burger, Jason was still hungry. Growth hormones clearly made him hungry all the time. His eyes went back to the food station, his feet walked slowly following the direction of his eyes. The food station brought him closer to another student, @Prat Pass who seemed to be his peer, with a cold look, dark-brown hair and upright posture. Somehow something made the boy looked... weird.

Jason instantly forgot about the food. His left hand was still holding an empty plate, but he was clearly no longer looking at the station, instead his body was also subconsciously directed towards the very bright pink suited boy. His gaze went up and down, eyes scanning for the first time, then brows frowned. Again, his gaze went up and down, then eyes narrowed. For the third time, his gaze went up and down before Jason finally couldn't help himself and blurted out what was on his mind, "Man, that suit doesn't fit your face," Jason eyed the boy's hair with a judgement sight, "You're trying too hard with that neon pink." Not everyone would suited best in bright pink. In this boy's case, he didn't look as confident and bold as the girl Jason saw earlier, and that was one of the huge minus point.
