'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.'
So, apparently, Novalie was insane.
Because here she was, once again, in the library with that same book on her Metamorphmagus ability, clinging to the wildly optimistic belief that this time, she’d make it past the first page. That this time, she’d actually understand at least one thing.
But, just as it had been for the past month - no, two months - actually, let’s be honest, since the beginning, really, the girl found herself reading the same sentence over and over without-
Wait. There it was again! Insanity.
Realizing that something had to be fundamentally wrong with her, Novalie stared wide-eyed at the book in front of her. How did people even read for fun?
Sitting still, staring at words on paper, and - what? - learning from it?
Sure, the redhead could understand getting lost in a fantastic story, but reading to gain knowledge? That was a different beast entirely.
Honestly, Novalie felt she’d made more progress with her ability just by experimenting. Still, there were a few things she desperately needed help with. And since other Metamorphmagi weren’t exactly common, her options boiled down to... these books. Books that dictated what was 'right' and 'wrong' based on other people’s experiences. Boring.
Novalie wanted to experience everything herself, to feel it, to discover her own truths, not rely on someone else’s. And yet..
With a heavy sigh, the Ravenclaw leaned back in her chair, her gaze drifting upward to watch the books floating lazily through the air, sorting themselves onto shelves as if they were alive. She watched them for a while, letting her mind wander, before her attention shifted to the students scattered throughout the library. Every time she got distracted like this, she somehow ended up roping someone into her orbit.
And this time, her eyes landed on a boy sitting near her table. He looked familiar.
Ruffled brown hair, a constellation of freckles around his nose, and - yeah no, she definitely recognized him from class! Harry? That was close enough, right?
Grinning, she snapped her book shut, stood up, and walked over to his table. Without so much as a greeting, she dropped into the seat next to him.
“Okay, so, like, I’ve got a question.”, Novalie began, skipping introductions entirely and barreling ahead without considering whether the boy was even in the mood to talk.
She jabbed a finger upward, pointing at the books still floating through the air, “You see those books up there, right? So, what do you think would happen if we cast an Ignition Spell on one? Would it fall down? Or would it keep floating? And if it did keep floating, would it still try to shelve itself? And if it did,-”, her grin widened, “...would it set all the other books on fire? And if it did that-”
Novalie leaned in now, eyes sparkling with reckless excitement.
“... would the whole library burn down?”
Before anything, Novalie whipped out her crooked wand from inside her robe and held it aloft.
“Let’s try it out, Harry! Right here, right now!”

So, what do you think...
20th Jan | #2D39B6 | @Novalie Moon‘A bookworm is a person who loves to read’Harrison felt as though this definition fit him like a dragon-hide glove.
He liked reading, to the point that the library was his favourite place at Hogwarts. Tall, wooden bookshelves filled to the brim with tomes, reading nooks scattered along the aisles, tables equipped with writing supplements like parchment, quills and ink bottles.
As much as Harrison would’ve liked to just take a moment to breathe in the warm, cozy atmosphere of the library - as he had done many times before since the start of the school year - that day, he had come with a goal.
Ever the diligent student, Harrison had come to the library to complete his assignments, namely Transfiguration and Potions. He was hoping to find a fair few books, and so he set out to look for them.
After much fumbling with the library cataloguing system, talking to himself just under his breath and at times - his guilty pleasure - running his hand along the shelves, just feeling the leathery spines of bound books under his fingertips, Harrison felt satisfied with the books he had found, and took a seat at a nearby table.
It wasn’t long before Harrison fell in a familiar rhythm, humming lightly as he jotted down notes and drew diagrams for Transfiguration. Despite it being a finicky and very precise subject, Harrison couldn’t help but be excited about it: changing the molecular structure of objects just seemed like the most wizarding thing to ever wizard.
Even Potions had its fun moments. In order to counteract the usual tediousness of the meticulous preparation of ingredients, Harrison liked to pretend to be a grand alchemist one step closer to brewing the Elixir of Life or some such extraordinary concoction. It did wonders for his learning, so long as he didn’t get carried away and distracted.
Harrison’s study session was going on without a hitch. Well, might’ve spoken too soon. “Okay, so, like, I’ve got a question.” Harrison, caught slightly off-guard by the sudden voice, lifted his eyes from his work and turned around.
Sat next to him was a young girl with fiery red hair - like a lion’s mane - and dark green eyes that stood out against her fair complexion. Harrison seemed to recall seeing her in the Ravenclaw common room.
He gave her a tentative smile, opening his mouth to introduce himself, but was abruptly cut-off by her, who seemed to prefer going straight to the point. At first, Harrison listened amusedly to her reasoning - it was interesting to think about the logistics behind an enchanted library - but soon enough, his smile subsided, replaced instead by a look of worry. Was she really serious about testing her theory?
The reckless sparkle in her eyes, coupled with the sudden unsheathing of her wand, gave him all the answers he needed.
“Woah, woah! Pump the brakes there!” Harrison quickly exclaimed, outstretching his hand over the girl’s wand so as to lower it down.“While I do think your theory holds some merit, I find it incredibly unwise to purposefully set a flying book on fire!” Harrison explained, his heart beating rapidly due to the sheer adrenaline and utter fear at the mental image of a fiery inferno engulfing his favourite place at school: of course a Ravenclaw would care about books first, instead of the other people who might’ve been in the library at that moment.
“If you’d like, we could look for a book about how the Hogwarts library came to be, maybe what enchantments were cast… We could even ask the librarian!” Harrison swiftly offered a few alternatives to her, hoping to set pyrotechnics out of her mind.

Noticing that the boy was listening to her idea - and, crucially, didn’t reject it - Novalie turned away before she could catch the flicker of alarm on his face as she drew her wand.
“Woah, woah! Pump the brakes there!”, he blurted out, quickly reaching a hand over her wand in an attempt to lower it. Well, it did work... for now.
The redhead tilted her head, a telltale sign of her confusion. Blinking her dark green eyes, she echoed the first part of his next sentence, “My theory holds merit.”
She blinked again, now fully taking in his troubled expression - though she didn’t quite understand why he looked so concerned. If she had to guess, it was probably because he’d never set anything on fire before. That was the real problem, wasn’t it?
It wasn’t that bad. Actually, it was really cool. Watching something go up in flickering gold and orange flames was one of the most mesmerizing sights in the world! And the possibilities! Would the fire spread wildly, unpredictable and exciting? Or would it smolder down, leaving behind beautiful, glowing red embers? Either way, it was fascinating.
“Then why don’t we try it out?”, Novalie asked casually, “Why would that be unwise?”
The boy suggested alternative ways to find the answer. Safer ways, of course.
“We could... read about it? Or ask someone?”
Novalie looked at him in pure disbelief, as if these words were more absurd than her proposal to potentially set the library on fire.
“Okay, no, wait.”
Her smile returned, slow and knowing, as she leaned in slightly, “I’m, like, not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but humor me for a second.”
Her grin widened into something undeniably mischievous as she scooted even closer, almost like she was about to crawl onto his lap.
Then, with a dramatic whisper and wide eyes, the girl began,
“Imagine... a hundred years ago, some random dude claimed that fire is hot. Everyone believed him. The information spread, got written in books, taught to kids, accepted as fact - no one questioned it. But for all we know, that guy was completely wrong. Maybe fire is actually cold, and the world just went along with it because no one ever tested it.”
Finally, Novalie leaned back slightly, giving a casual shrug.
“Well, I tried touching fire. And yeah, I got burned. But at least now I know for sure that it’s hot. Can you say the same?”
With that, the redhead raised her wand again, aiming at one of the floating books.
“I'm sure no one has ever actually tried what we’re about to do. And I’m not about to take the word of some librarian who probably never tested it herself either.”
Then, as if the matter was already settled, she grinned at him.
“Hey, let’s make a bet. The one who’s right about what happens gets a chocolate frog.”
A chuckle escaped her lips.
“So? What do you think is gonna happen?”
