Can we just be honest?
Gum. Gum everywhere. Under the desks, the chairs, even in a corner of a bookshelf. Everywhere you look, there's gum.
It wouldn't bother her if it was fresh gum, little strips of fruity gum, bubblegum, strangely flavoured gum. Every single flavour of gum she loved... except for mint. But no, it's never fresh gum, any teenager would know that. It's always chewed up.
Woe upon those who accidentally forget and tap their hands on the bottom of a desk. It's even worse when what you feel is... wet. One can't recover from something like that.
Do people really find under desks to be the most convenient place to put gum? Don't they ever have tissues, can't they just walk a few steps to the bin? They could even stick it behind their ears for all she cared, but why under tables?
If you were to chew anything in class, gum makes the least sense. You don't even get to swallow it, unless you do it by mistake, or just want to experience what it's like, the panic. Lemon has done that one too many times. But why not chew on the back of a pen, a piece of bread, maybe even paper?
