Prelude
Most days he was focused and his thoughts were steady - filled with prayers, thoughts of those close to him, information he learned in classes, various broom racing maneuvers that might be used in the upcoming race, and on information he read on various topics. It was those days, most days, that the occurrences that happened over this past summer only lingered, a small slightly haze that rested in the distance and they didn't get much attention.Soon to meet @Ira Thornfield
But there were some days where that haze wanted to drift in, grow closer, envelope him. It was in those days, some days, that it blanketed him from any other thoughts and completely covered his mind. It was on those days that he had to replay all that happened during the summer and his mind was screaming for him to make sense of it - to put it all together. ....But what he was putting all together just didn't seem to make sense!
On the days when there was more thoughts than words he could put into, he turned to music. Music was so many things to Simon Kincaid but one of them was an outlet for his emotions. It was a way to place out those thoughts and feelings into something that could be heard even when he didn't know any other way to express it.
It was a Wednesday evening in the Scottish Highlands where Hogwarts rested, chilly and rainy and that kept most of the students indoors. Simon took to the Rehearsal Room in hopes that the piano was unoccupied and thankfully found it so. He sat down and began to play, allowing his thoughts and feelings to wander as he worked on a piece he had been working on for some time now - pretty much ever since first getting to know his father.

Prelude
It was one of those days when the rain poured relentlessly outside, shrouding the world outside in grey. Ira leaned against the corridor railing, her hand brushing the cool stone as she watched the needle like droplets race down.
On most days, she’d be wandering the castle grounds or seated by the lake, but the weather has a different plan for her. The thought of catching a cold—or worse, shaking like a leaf for hours—was enough to keep her inside today.
There was no way she’d sit idle, twiddling her thumbs until the storm passed. Nah, it wasn't her style. If anything, the rain was an invitation to move—perfect for losing herself in a dance, to savour the joy it brings. Giggling under her breath, Ira dashed to her dorm, an idea sparkled in her mind.
She rummaged through her belongings and grabbed the music box. Ira studied her simple, flowy white dress that reached her calves, a thoughtful frown knitting her brow. With a quick nod of approval, she slipped into her comfy slippers and bolted out of the room.
As her steps grew nearer to the rehearsal room, melodic echoes of piano keys drifted into her ears, delicate yet enough to catch her attention. Ira was surprised she hadn’t expected someone to already be here but now that she was on the doorstep, she wasn’t going to turn back. She might as well step inside and wait.
Ira entered the room with quiet steps, her gaze falling on a senior she recognized, though she didn’t know his name. If he looked up, she would offer a soft smile. She gently set her music box in the corner and moved toward the window, her eyes lost in the misty landscape.
The soft sounds of the music filled the room. It flowed into her ears, pulling her in. Though her initial plan was to sit and listen, her body, it seemed, had a mind of its own. First, her head swayed, a subtle movement in tune with the music. Her feet tapped lightly in time.
Then, in the span of a heartbeat, the gentle hum of the music flowed through her, guiding her body to follow its lead. Her feet glided effortlessly across the floor, her arms rising instinctively, accentuating her graceful twirls.
Her black waves danced with her and a genuine smile curved her lips. Ira’s whole body moved effortlessly with the rhythm, her dress fluttering gently in time. As the tempo picked up, her movements grew more playful and spontaneous, matching it. When it slowed, so did she. In that moment, Ira was completely immersed, her mind and body surrendering to the music.

Prelude

Talking with @Ira Thornfield
There had been murmuring at one point from those that were depicted on the portraits that hung on the walls in the Rehearsal Room of Hogwarts and Simon was barely aware of them as he played. Most likely one had bumped into another in an attempts to get a front row seat and he didn't have it interrupt his playing - not this song. This song was always for all the emotions that he just couldn't quite put into words, for all the thoughts he couldn't quite understand.
When he did finish, they applauded - more than their usual state which caused Simon to glance around the room and that's when he saw the girl in the room with him. From the look of her stance, she had just finished perhaps with a dance and he felt a little ashamed for not having had noticed that she had entered into the room with him. "Hi there," he paused once their applause was done. They were always so complimentary. It was a good thing - he had seen them even raise into applause with students just learning the piano.
"My apologies. I didn't hear you come in," he continued and brushed his hands along his pant legs and wondered if he should allow her the space. He knew how important sometimes that room could be to gather oneself. It was why he had been there.
She was a fellow Hufflepuff. He had gathered that much. He had been a prefect for two years and tried to recall all Puffs that were sorted but he didn't usually place a name with the face until provided one. The one time during the sorting ceremony just didn't work.
"It seems I've missed your performance," he smiled. "You won over the crowd."

Prelude

Introductions with @Ira Thornfield
"It's something I've been working on for...." he went to just say awhile now but his mind wandered to just exactly how long he had been working on this one piece. It was a piece that came to him whenever he had a lot on his mind about a particular subject. "...Years now," he continued.
He didn't know really which the audience would have applauded more for since he missed her performance but knowing this crowd they would have offered encouragement up to anyone, even someone just walking through the door if that were the case. They were a good group of portraits and Simon was glad they found their way into such a space that motivated the performers inside the room and entertained those upon the canvas.
He knew the girl. Sort of. She was a Hufflepuff and as a former Hufflepuff prefect he tried to at least recognize all of his fellow badgers but that didn't mean he always was able to put a name with the face so introductions were in order. Simon rose from the piano bench to approach her, hand out. It wasn't until he had done so that he hoped this wasn't lost on her. She had mentioned that perhaps his piece was from the muggle world as she didn't recognize it and he wasn't sure purebloods or wizardborns really shook hands in gestures when meeting or if that was solely a muggle thing. Still, he kept it outstretched. "Simon Kincaid, fellow Hufflepuff if memory serves me."
He had met someone who once didn't understand why everyone had to tell their house when first meeting another at Hogwarts but Simon thought it was a good starting point in getting to know someone. Sure, not all followed their house traits exactly but the sorting hat did sort everyone for a reason. It was a starting point.
"You dance often?"
