Claire watched Avery, fighting the urge to hold the girl's hand as Colin treated her. When Rose and Hana had to go to the doctor, she always held their hands when it was painful, but she'd only just met Avery, so she didn't want to make the Gryffindor uncomfortable.

"I'd love to practice together! A half-blood and a pureblood with a history of playing pretend at being a muggle! It'd be great! And who knows, maybe we can have a fun little rivalry once we both make it onto the teams?" Alice said with a wry grin. "There was a move I saw at the Slytherin and Ravenclaw game that was just incredible. It was called the 'alley-oop,' and maybe we could practice it together? Since you want to be a seeker, and I want to be a chaser, and all."

As she spoke, Claire's eyes were firmly fixed on Colin as he stood in the chair, attending to his paperwork. She watched him with a curious expression, as if trying to guess what he'd do or say next. She didn't know the boy very well yet, but he was painting a picture in her mind. With very large, clumsy brush strokes. It was wonderful. And she had to wonder: did Colin rhyme on purpose? 'That was fun...' '...and we'll be done.'

"I can lend you my shampoo!" Claire called out as Colin bolted.

"Did he just call us 'danger noodles?'" she asked Avery, shaking her head. "I think he's right. I think this place'll be much like a second home for us once we make the teams. How's your leg feeling?"

She watched the previously injured appendage as if expecting it to explode, or grow to twice its length, or who knew what, since they were in a magical school. She hesitantly reached out a hand, inches from poking the healed leg.

"That would be fun! As long as our rivalry is only on the pitch! You seem like too fun and sweet of a person to be rivals with all the time! Maybe we could be friends?" Avery hoped that the girl would want to be friends. She had really enjoyed Claire's company.

Right after she asked her question, Colin ran out calling them "danger noddles" and saying he was going to find out about sham-poo. Avery began laughing again. After all they had said about it, he still wanted to look it up. He was acting just like Avery when she had first learned about it too.

Avery wiggled her leg. No pain. What a relief. "So far, it seems good. I'm going to try and stand" Avery stood up slowly. Testing her weight on her leg. It seemed to be holding her without pain, so she began putting her actual weight on it.

"Looks like it's fully healed. Thanks again for taking me up here. Maybe we can do our practice in a few days, so I can get my leg fully healed?" Avery asked.

"Well, since my leg is finally healed, I better go get my broom and put it away. I wouldn't want it getting ruined. See you later?" Avery questioned as she walked out of the room. A new light in her eyes as she plotted what she would do next.

"A few days," Claire agreed, her cheeks flushed in excitement at the thought of having a friend to practice quidditch with. A friend to talk to after bad games once she made the team. A friend that she could encourage and be encouraged by in turn. Just... a friend.

She'd yet to make many close friends since coming to Hogwarts. It was hard, after leaving behind her two best friends and having to lie to them because of some stupid 'Statute of Secrecy,' or whatever the name of the law was, to open up and make new friends, but Avery was fun to be around. She was brave. She was everything Claire wanted to be.

"Maybe this Friday? After class?" she asked, smiling widely.

She watched almost nervously as Avery stood and put her leg to full use. Her arms hovered around the Gryffindor, ready to catch her if she began to fall, but Avery seemed to have a good handle on it, and her leg seemed just as strong, if not stronger, than ever.

"Right. S-see you later," Claire said, her fingertips moving in a small wave as she smiled at Avery's retreating form.

The word echoed through Claire's head, sending pangs of hope and optimism bursting into her chest: Friends...
