Falling From Cloud 9
Honestly, he felt kind of like a fool. He had just left Astronomy and man, he was bored out of his mind. Admittedly, Clark slept through the last few minutes of class and following it, when it was time to leave, he begrudgingly woke up and stumbled out of the door, making his way to the corridors and towards the moving stairs.
He felt his heart palpitating, exhaustion getting the better of him. He laid on his stomach, resting his head on his crossed arms and he was going to sleep right at the top of the moving stairs, feeling no need to get up or do anything. He was fine as long as he did not roll in his sleep. Or sleepwalk.
Clark murmured, dreaming happily. Simon and Ben, his brothers, were giving him money in his dream as Clark demanded. His father was not as strict and let Clark destroy the house without consequences. At least, those were the thoughts he had during the seven minutes he had before he fully went to sleep. However, Clark wouldn’t be fully asleep. When the stairs moved, he felt a small jolt and it startled him. He stood up, placing his hands on the bannisters and looked down.
He had a flashback to December 23rd, and how he was suspended in the air, and he was so glad that he was not 30 or more feet in the air like he was right now. His heart raced, and he began to feel a bit of panic. What if he falls? He didn’t want to fall off of the stairs and hit the ground. His grip on the bannister tightened out of fear and his mind would only focus on one thing, making sure he was secure in place. He didn’t dare move, even when the stairs would stop momentarily.@Prat Pass

AEIOUSA𝔭rat's heavy eyelids felt like they were made of countless sleepless nights as he shuffled out of astronomy classroom. The weight of a thousand unslept nights pressed down on him, urging him to succumb to the sweet sweet delightful embrace of his bed. The cold castle and it's hard floors were the direct opposite of his warm, fuzzy blanket and bed. After a tiresome day, each step was like a battle for him, his legs moving as if they had a mind of their own and an unwillingness to move. The echoes of his classmates' chatter were faint whispers in his mind, akin to white noise. His thoughts focused solely on the bed that awaited him. He was aware he had to keep walking, if only a little longer. This short walk however was proving to be tremendously difficult, almost as if he was fighting a natural entity. All his body wanted was to collapse into his bed and let the sweet embrace of slumber take over.
Continuing his sluggish march towards the dorms, he couldn't help but notice the distinct form of a creature called Clark Baird. The boy he had encountered over winter break. Who was now a fellow student somehow. He didn't want to engage, nor did he wish to be drawn into a conversation that would only serve to delay his rendezvous with his bed. With a silent sigh, he made a conscious decision to ignore Clark's presence, focusing instead on the rhythmic pattern his footsteps made as he walked down the stairs. It was a decision born from a place of self-preservation, a potential safety next against the pull of any and all unnecessary drama this child brought with him.
Prat's thoughts drifted back to the winter break he had suffered through, the memory of his altercation with Clark as vivid as yesterday. The image of Clark's shriveled up face, contorted with rage and frustration upon getting punishment was all back in his head. The confrontation had been ghastly, a mixture of hate and resentment along with some admiration that had left them both reeling. And then, the aftermath of it all—his own punishment for standing up to Clark, and the unfair treatment of getting grounded by his own parents too. That grounding was supposed to be a void of disappointment that would consume his vacation were it not for the muggle toys at his aunt's house. Those things called TV were an addiction in their own league. He had learned the hard way that even he couldn't always escape the consequences of his actions.

His grip on the banister resumed and he turned to face Prat, also looking equally exhausted, but for him to ignore Clark? What a jerk. He pushed himself away from the banister, trying hard to forget the dizziness and the exhaustion triggering the random fear of heights that he normally would not have had in the past. He walked down the stairs, gripping the rails as tightly as he could, his legs feeling like jelly and his heart palpitating, his throat slightly dry, his tongue also dry. It felt like a lack of sleep and that he shouldn't trust his body.
He spoke, trying to get the Prat's intention. "PRAT!" He would yell, and should the dude ignore him, well, Clark didn't know what he would do. He lacked the energy to even take off his shoe and peg him in the back of his head.
The goblin continued to speak, "Prat. Our score has not settled." He thought back to when his dad interrupted their lovely little situation where Clark was obviously winning. 'Course, that wasn't true, it was about as true as there being a giant in the sky guarding a golden egg.
What could he say to get Prat to speak lividly? What would trigger the venom from this viper? Why did people have different trigger buttons for him to push, why could it not be uniform?
"You lack the traits of a Slytherin and your hair looks like someone stuck it into a toilet and said it looked magnifique. Your life is a fucking lie, like your mom." A far reach, in Clark's own opinion but maybe? Maybe it was enough to fully get his attention, rather than simply ignoring his name being said.@Prat Pass

AEIOUSA𝔭rat's eyes narrowed at the remarks, his obsidian gaze flickering with a slightly rage filled glint as he processed the barrage of insults thrown at him by the sniveling goblin in his presence. He knew Clark was desperate to get a rise out of him, but calling his mother into this was a low blow, even for an inept animal like him. He took a deep breath, fighting the urge to respond with a swift punch that would hopefully knock Clark's teeth out.
Instead, he spoke calmly, his words controlled. "Mind your words, goblin. I spared you last time out of respect for your father, I will not extend the same courtesy twice." Even a deaf man could understand how Clark's mouth wrote checks his tiny rodent-esque body couldn't cash.. He was afterall a mere goblin, not worthy of speaking to a wizard of Prat's standing. Infact, some would argue he was worse than a goblin, Ernest was a goblin goblin, Clark was just a disgusting abomination cloaked in goblin skin
The sneer on Prat's face grew as he digested all of Clark's words. The mention of his mother had hit a nerve, and Prat felt his temper rising with each second that passed. Today was not the day he wished to do this, nor did he wish to get another detention anytime soon. Yet, he continued, "Your kind is known for thievery and cowardice halfwit, i do not wish to engage you further. My hair?, You wish you could ever have hair this perfect on your grubby little head."
He knew he was being too unkind to Clark, perhaps a few words about his whole kin he wished he wouldn't have to voice, yet his intent was to get rid of Clark as soon as he could. With a disgusted look at Clark, Prat turned to walk away, his thoughts a collection of his rage and the desire to show this goblin a fall taller than that one during winters.

He felt kind of sad. Obviously, he was exhausted, but it was like a new wave just rushed over him. Why did he insult Pratt when he could have simply been nice? Either way, that little comment on his mother was not very funny or kind or anything. He could have been a little better with his insult, but he had to decide to speak and say whatever came to his mind first. He was just that stupid.
He heard the comment on his father, and he felt a little pissed. Now, he obviously wasn’t as angry as he would’ve wanted to let on, but he was still just a tiny bit pissed. How the hell did he go from tired to sad to pissed? What was this? Did nighttime really just bring about a wave of exhaustion that made you so emotional?
“At least I have a father that cares about me. You bloody dangled me in the air by my underwear! I’m glad he stepped in when he did, I think you would’ve just hung me off of the hook where I have the clear disadvantage of height, if he didn’t step in. So I have to at least thank my father. You are a horrible idiot and I hope you die in misery.” Clark said, feeling very very angry. How dare someone insult him and his lineage like that? How dare they install his father? That was his job. His job and his best friend’s job. Prat was not his best friend.
“Your hair looks like someone sneezed all over it and it’s dripping snot with every movement you make with your head.”
He was too kind. But it was about to get worse. Without thinking, Clark took off with a running start and lunged off of the edge of the platform, pegging Prat square in the chest. Before he realized it, the stairs began to move and Clark felt a pain like never before as he slammed against the rail with a hard and resounding thud.@Prat Pass

AEIOUSA𝔭rat took a deep, calming breath, his eyes carrying a hint of sadness as he processed Clark's heated words, this sadness however wasn't for himself; it was for clark. It was clear that he used anger as a mask for something deeper, something that had been festering within Clark for quite a long time. Prat knew it all too well, the desperate need for validation that often stemmed from a lack of affection in one's early life, Clark was the perfect case for it. Finding out his mother abandoned him only added to Prat's hypothesis. But he still couldn't let Clark's words go unaddressed, no no that would set a bad precednt, This was time to retaliate and not delve deeper into the emotional quagmire that was Clark's psyche.
"You know," Prat began, his voice measured and even, "You throw around accusations and insults like confetti at a wedding you weren't invited to, just like your Father's 73 marriages he's had so far. It's as if you're trying to fill the void of love you never received as a child by making everyone else feel as small and unwanted as you do." He paused, allowing his words to hang in the air with some weight.
Before Prat could move on, all he saw Clark's desperate lunge. He had anticipated something like this well within clark's course of action, but not quite so... visceral. The impact was surprisingly forceful, and for a moment, he felt the wind leave his lungs as he stumbled back into the stairs banister. As the sting of the impact registered in his chest and back, Prat got down, the force of Clark's impact definitely knocked the wind out of him if he wasn't sure before. He watched as the railing took the brunt of Clark's momentum, his body contorting in a painful embrace on the stairs. Prat knew what he had to do next, he had to strike where it hurt—both figuratively and literally.
With a surprisingly slow recovery, Prat stepped over to the now less-writhing getting better Clark, his eyes narrowing with a mix of anger and pity. He raised his foot and kicked it into Clark's calf, the sound of the kick resonating through the stairwell. "You're so pitiful, we didn't need to do this. I just wanted sleep." he spat, the venom in his voice belying the calmness of his demeanor. He kicked again. Prat knew he was pushing buttons, but he also knew that sometimes, a little pain was necessary to make someone realize their own wrongdoings. It wasn't like Prat started it and if was gonna do this, he might as well enjoy some of this.

@Prat PassHe groaned, ever so full of pain. Hearing the words of his father's degenerative ways made him feel worse. He could not control his father, only his father could. But no one degrades him, no one except for Clark. That was all his territory, his birthright. He looked back at Prat, towering over his downed body and with the words he just said, he saw the leg drawing back and felt his feet slamming into his calf.
Clark howled in pain, tears beginning streaming down his eyes. "What THE FUCK!" He yelled. He hoped a member of Hogwarts staff would come to his rescue, save him from the assaulting bully. Clark was innocent, he would plead that entirely! But gosh, if this boy would just leave him the hell alone, he would probably feel so much better.
Another kick. Clark decided he'd retaliate, tears coming down heavily and his leg in a lot of pain. He grabbed Prat's leg and pulled towards him, trying to get him to fall on his ass. "Stop." He paused, trying to jag his speech. "Kicking." He halted. "Me." Honestly, Clark would've been okay with a fight anywhere else, just not on the stairs. The stairs were terrifying.
A thought appeared in Clark's head, what if he.. dragged Prat close to the edge of the stairs while it was moving.. would it halt him from harming Clark?

AEIOUSA𝔭rat's eyes widened in surprise as Clark's quick action caught him off guard. He got confused and felt his balance waver as his leg jerked towards Clark.
The stairs beneath them kept spinning while he tried to recover, but the pull from Clark was too strong.
Prat toppled over, his body descending towards Clark with inevitability, Ouch this was gonna hurt, both of them. His thoughts were a mix of anger and confusion, anger because clark had forgotten who he was talking to and confusion because he had never anticipated Clark to even attempt to pull that off.
Did Clark really think that pulling him down would stop the fight? Before either of them could process the situation fully, Prat's knee connected with Clark's leg with a sickening thud, and he heard the sharp intake of breath that signaled pain.
Instinctively, his own hands shot out to break his own fall, but they only managed to graze the stairs before he landed elbow first, heavily on top of Clark, his elbows pressing down on the injured leg.
The impact was probably jarring. Prat felt somewhat regretful now. He didn't want to cause this much harm, he only intended to show Clark. He realized the situation had escalated in a way he didn't want.
Prat took his time to recover, helping clark to his feet and ran off to his own dorms.

@Prat PassStill on the ground, but he felt the need to laugh, not out loud, but internally. What a fool Prat was to even exist. Didn’t he know that Clark was simply so much better than he was? A challenge Prat was, he wasn’t sure how to interpret his behavior and actions except to say that he was simply an idiot half the time.
The goblin winced in pain as Prat’s knee fell onto his leg and good god he knew his leg was going to be way more bruised than a repeatedly given black eye.
He saw Prat run away, and he could not help but yell after him. “YOU GOD DAMN BABY, YOU RUN AWAY FROM EVERY CONFLICT OUT THERE! EITHER FACE IT LIKE A MAN OR DO NOT SHOW UP AROUND HERE.”
Was this a small challenge? Yes. Clark was challenging someone he considered a greater fool than Patrick Star. He stood up, clutching the bannister to put more weight on his other half of the body so his newly minted bruised leg would not have to feel as much pain.
He slowly made his way down the stairs, trying to hurry but take his time simultaneously just so he could get back to his dorms. He looked around, trying to see if no one was following him. He stood outside the barrel entrance to Hufflepuff and snarled at anyone who walked by, waiting for a moment when no one was around.
