After a busy morning in which all teams had the opportunity to brew their best potions, using all their knowledge and best of skills, professors Melisande Lennox and @Méabh Regan would be waiting for the brave and daring contestants at the Quidditch Stadium. Alongside them was the prestigious and international panel of judges, constituted by Hogwarts' Hjørdis Jensen and Dusana Sabo, Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbatons, Évodie Ndoto Masudi of Uagadou and Hugo da Silva[NPC] former Castelobruxo's potions professor and a renown author.
It was mid-autumn and the Scottish highlands would welcome them with gray skies and a very unpleasant cold wind. Meli looked at the heavy clouds forming a dense blanket that threatened to dissolve into raindrops and hoped that wouldn't happen for a while longer. Behind her, the representatives of the various schools participating in the tournament were sitting comfortably, they would be the ones who would evaluate the performance of all the teams and they would be the ones who would decide the winner in the end. Who among them would deserve to walk out of the stadium with a shiny new golden cauldron and bring honor and prestige to their names? Melisande knew that she flinched a little when she saw some of the potions being prepared...now she only could hope for the best!
The Quidditch Stadium was completely renovated and prepared to receive the event. In it, three different sections could be found, each prepared for the challenges corresponding to each age group.
Third Section:
In the last third of the Stadium, covered by a giant greenhouse dome, there was another forest, but this one had a different flavor, it was a luxurious tropical forest, and instead of tall pine trees, we would find mahogany trees, strangler figs, passionflower flowers, orchids, bromeliads and soursop trees. Scattered on the ground and hanging on the trees were wicker baskets with soursops and...yes you're correct, swooping evils in the mix! Once the adventurous students entered the forest their mission would prove to be quite difficult, of course! To achieve prestige the challenges could not be easy to overcome!
Melisande and Méabh were standing together, making themselves noticed among the seated spectators, as they waited for all the competition participants to arrive at the place where the last part of the Potions Championship would be held. Once all the contestants were present, Meli, with her voice amplified by the Sonorus spell, would finally address everyone present, "Dear students and honorer guests, welcome to the third and final part of the Potions Championship. As you can see, in front of you is not the usual sight that we are used to finding inside our Quidditch Stadium. The organisation of this event took liberties and transformed it into a more suitable setting for this contest.”
“Inside that lush green tropical rainforest,” Meli continued pointing with her hand and outstretched arm towards the patch of tall trees, colourful, beautiful flowers and dense vegetation,“There are several wicker baskets with soursops. You have to be able to recover a soursop without disturbing the swooping evils that hide among the trees and the fruit baskets. You’ll need to use all your courage and wits to succeed in this dangerous mission."
"Completing your task should be your main goal, but let me remind you that you’ll lose points if you get yourself harmed or any of the Swooping Evils. I hope you’ve done your best and brewed the most outstanding potions!” She merrily ended saying, giving the crowd one of her brightest smiles. It certainly would be entertaining!
“So when you are ready…” She started again, looking at the youngest students with an encouraging nod and smile, “Remember you will only have one hour to finish this challenge, when the time is over so it is your opportunity to succeed. Time starts as soon as you enter your challenge field. In your case, as soon as you cross the door to the rainforest greenhouse. Time will stop counting when you return."
"Pay attention to your surroundings, remember everything you have learned so far, trust your companions and I’m sure you’ll be victorious! Good luck!” Then she would give them a signal, letting them know that they were free to enter the greenhouse and start their challenge.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:@Koko RiddleTHIRD CHALLENGE FOR 5TH AND 7TH YEAR
- Retrieve a soursop fruit from a patch of Swooping Evils.
- The groups will be judged and rated by a prestigious panel of international wizards, by the following criteria:1. Quality of the potions2. Successful completion of the task3. How fast they finished the task4. Injuries and other harm to the competitors5. Injuries and other harm to the beastsjjjj
- The tasks will be performed in the same groups that brewed the potions in the first and second part. Each member of the group will have one dose of each of the two potions they brewed to use - but be careful, their effect will depend on the success of the brewing stage, and a bad brew might harm more than help!
(This potion is IC only and only usable for this thread - there is no potion item associated with this.)
- The event has a total of three moderated rounds, after which the time is up! Your characters can perform one moderated action per round (incl. casting spells - think adventure threads, balls, sports etc.). Using a potion as a bonus action (can be performed additionally to the moderated action). You can use both potions in the same round, in this case one potion counts as the first moderated action and the second as a bonus action. Will your strategy lead to victory?
- Moderations take place roughly weekly. The deadline for posting is six days (144 hours) after the moderation is posted. The word requirement is 200 words per post.
- The top team of each age group is crowned victor and earns eternal glory for their schools. And of course, a magnificent golden Cauldron!
- OOC reward: One dose of a potion depending on your age group for every participant who has posted in every moderation round:
1-2nd Year: Fire Breathing Potion
3-4th Year: Invisibility Potion
5-7th Year: Strengthening Solution

The Wizarding Schools Potions Championship

Cyrus had entered the potions championship just wanting an excuse to not think about Hogsmeade. It had worked, and he had gotten to make some epic brews out of it, but now, as he stood in front of the greenhouse, wand in one hand and potions in a satchel at his waist, Cyrus could not help but wonder if his ideas had been stupid. After listening to the rules, he decided to wait on his fire breathing potion, instead reaching into his satchel and pulling out his weakness potion.
He just had to trust in himself. He didn't think that weakening the swooping evils would hurt them — he just wanted to make sure they couldn't hurt him. He valued his brain, after all! And now, before he entered, he just had to think, think, think about what he could possibly do to keep his brains intact. He didn't really want to hurt the creatures — they were just little guys, after all, just little guys doing their very best, just like him.
But he still wanted to be able to do somewhat decently with this. And, of course, his brains were important. He needed anything, something, a distraction, and then — aha.
He stared at his wand and finally stepped into the greenhouse, uncorking his potion and murmuring, 'Animosus,' while pointing his wand at himself. Although he was always rather brave, he wanted to have the clearest head possible for this challenge.
He just had to hope he had brewed the potion well enough and that he would suffer little to no ill effects as he had never really understood what weakness was. He hoped it wasn't anything like the body-bind curse — that was something foul, something he wouldn't wish upon his most beloathed enemy. And he didn't want to hurt the little guys...

The Wizarding Schools Potions Championship
The icy wind continued to blow around the stadium, unwilling to show its mercy to all the excited participants and spectators. Meli suppressed a shiver as a delicate thread of cold air dared to penetrate the fabric of her scarf. With her bright sapphire eyes, she scanned the stadium field, not wanting to miss anything that was happening, both for her own amusement and entertainment, but also so that she could act quickly if something was going in the wrong direction. There ere too many variables that could make that competition turn to the wrong way.Round: 1
It was interesting to see how her students thought in such different and creative strategies to overcome their challenges. Cyrus, for instance, decided to start by casting the Animosus spell on himself, winning some extra courage that way.
Removing the lid from the bottle containing the Weakness Potion, Meli saw its essence spread through the nearest trees and fly further, penetrating inside the rainforest greenhouse. With some luck, the magical brewing would turn the Swooping Evils less menacing.Animosus - WDC:11

First round: +2 accuracy and +1 (19 arc)

Next round will have +1 accuracy +1 (19 arc)

After spending a while searching for the soursop inside those wicker baskets, the creatures started to feel bothered by the presence of Cyrus in their space. Two of them would finally spot him and decided to attack the Ilvermorny student.50% chances the swooping evils would attack while Cyrus was searching [11-20]:
d20=15
d20=16
d20=4
Two of the Swooping evils noticed Cyrus and attacked.
The first swooping evil dived towards Cyrus and the seventh year student managed to avoid its small but sharp wolf teeth. However, when the second creature followed the first, the attack happened too quickly, and Cyrus found himself unable to avoid the creature.1. Swooping Evil acc:

2. Swooping Evil acc:

d20(5)+10=15
One of the Swooping Evils bit Cyrus. Thanks to the weakness potion, Cyrus only got 100 damage instead of 200. He will not get poisoned thanks to Poison Resistance.
Summary:
- Cyrus cast Animosus and got a better accuracy for two rounds (this one and next),
- He didn’t find the right fruit.
- Got attacked by two swooping evils. First one evaded, second one got bitten and lost 100 stamina. [1000/900]

The Wizarding Schools Potions Championship

Well, it could have gone much worse.
Somehow that was what went through Cyrus's head as he bit back a yelp, managing to avoid all but one Swooping Evil, and holy sprinkles, that hurt! He stood, shocked, wondering if this was even worth it, before deciding there had to be something more he could do, just to find that devious fruit.
Would it be cheating to just use the summoning charm? Cyrus figured so. If he was going to do decently at this, he might as well do it right. But then where was that stupid Soursop!? Why couldn't he find it? He wasn't supposed to be that unperceptive. He didn't know how he was supposed to better his eyes. Maybe there was a sight-bettering potion he just hadn't learned yet and therefore was unable to use.
At least his spell had worked — he was hardly afraid. He readied himself to search for the Soursop once again, and this time, he thought perhaps a distraction would get the Swooping Evils off his tail. It was his favourite spell that he was going to use, then, and better for it since he'd at least had practice with it. 'Avis.'
If it worked, hopefully the birds would distract the Swooping Evils from Cyrus's so-far-fruitless search.

Round: 2
It was a beautiful spell that came from the tip of Cyrus's wand, as a singing flock of small blue birds emerged through the scrubby vegetation of the rainforest, attempting to distract the Swooping Evils.Spells
Cyrus cast Avis [WDC: 16]
d20(11)+10=21 Success

- Cyrus was not able to identify the soursop.
Two of the Swooping Evils were disturbed by the boy's presence and the flock of invading birds and decided to attack the Ilvermorny student. The Wizarding Schools Potions Championship

The lanky boy scrounged around, scouring every little thing he could find for the thing that was supposed to be a soursop. Whenever he thought he might have found it, a grin broke across his features, but it quickly left his face when he realised he was wrong. 'Rats,' he muttered as he continued to rummage, probably making a mess as he did so.
Nothing. Big fat nothing.
'Aah!' Cyrus yelped as two Swooping Evils made their ways towards him. His birds weren't doing their job at all! Or maybe he was just not good at dodging. He tried his best but found himself stumbling over his feet as the creatures attacked. Shuddering, Cyrus leaned over and tried to catch his breath.
But, of course, because it was Hogwarts, that wasn't enough. No, there had to be vampires, too. Well, not exactly, but he was just a sad little Muggle-born dealing with all of this and he would call the mosps what he very well liked.
'Please, please, please no, please just let me thiiiiink,' he grumbled, staring up at the mosps dejectedly. His founds found cocoon after cocoon but no soursop, and then the stinging happened. 'Holy guacamole!' he shouted. 'Can you guys not!?'
He had to take a few deep breaths to keep his mind somewhat focused. Maybe he'd been taking the wrong approach with this all along. So much defence, when maybe he just needed to make his life easier. 'Lumos,' he said, finally lowering his voice.

The Wizarding Schools Potions Championship
As the championship drew to a close, and some competitors finished their tasks, the crowd in the stands was in high spirits. The noise was almost deafening, people were shouting, applauding and cheering for their friends and teammates. Melisande smiled brightly as she saw all the enthusiasm surrounding her, "We did good!" She said, leaning slightly towards Méabh and muttering in her ear so the potions professor could hear over all the commotion. She winked at Regan before turning her attention back to the Quidditch field, towards where the real action was still happening.Round: 3
Probably the unluckiest of all the participants, Cyrus once again found himself the victim of the merciless Swooping Evil. That creature seemed to be in a particularly bad mood, giving no quarter to the boy from Ilvermorny. Even Melisande began to feel some sting of pity for the competitor with everything that had happened to him and how he had acted during the test. Basically, everything that could go wrong went wrong. The History of Magic professor felt a sense of relief for him as time came to an end, "I think you'd better go see that one first Dusana, he doesn't look too well after all that, poor lad.".Cast Lumos to try to find the soursop:
