How to Chill in Four Easy Steps with @Oliver Armani
"Ohh..." The "Wrong House" conundrum seemed to make a little more sense to Emily now that Oliver was able to provide some explanation behind it. "I never really thought about how important that kind of reputation was for some folks before... I always thought getting accepted into the school in the first place would be cause for celebration enough..." And that was coming from a girl who had no clue about Hogwarts prior to getting her letter.
Back to their meditative mingling, Emily was excited to see that Oliver actually did seem to take an interest in her little routine she was proposing, even if it did appear he was still a bit unsure of the whole thing. That was still most likely on Emily's part. She was going about this a little more theatrical than anything. Still, if it was humouring him all the same, then she wouldn't stop there.
"Step number two... Just clear the mind! Let everything just melt from the brain wrinkles and relax. You can take a deep breath, shake the shoulders, whatever you feel will help!" She exaggeratingly went limp against the tree trunk to prove her point.
"Trust me, it feels good once you let go!" she grinned. "Give it a try!"

Oliver raised an eyebrow at Emily's words. To a lot of pure blood families that reputation was everything. Sure not all, but quite a few Oliver knew had a house or two that they were only sorted in. For the Armani's that was Gryffindor, to get anything other then that had been unheard off. Until him, and it was very disgraceful. The way she said things... Something about it really just made Oliver pause. Getting in the school was pretty much a guarantee, So of course it would not be enough.
There was a celebration of course there was. They celebrated his first instance of magic, but that had been more so not of his first magic but a celebration of the fact he was not a squib. They had celebrated when he got his letter, and framed it up on the wall along side all the other Armani Hogwarts letters. To ward off again a squib in the family. All the celebrations in the home had been 'rituals' if one wished to call them that, Oliver did not. To ward off squibs. The magic was there. They all knew it. If it wasn't, well, Oliver didn't know. They hadn't been a squib born in generations. Just like how there had not been one that wasn't a Gryffindor.
Until him.
And she told him to clear his mind? How could he do that? Not when his whole life was around having to be a Gryffindor and not getting that. A majority of his clothing was red and gold, not silver and green. It was not a possibility. He was a brave kid, perhaps the bravest one in the house, he was sure as hell proud of his family. Even if they weren't very proud of him at the moment. Oliver couldn't blame them, he wouldn't be proud of himself either. The house, and his stupid wand.
It hadn't been a month in and Oliver could already tell that he wasn't as good as some of his classmates. His spell work, he didn't know why, or how, the universe just had to hate him or something. It sucked. What took his classmates three, two, or the rare one try. Took Oliver five or six tries to get down. It just wasn't fair, he was pure blood. His magic was strong. So why, why did it take him longer to get it? He had the notes and lectures down to a T, could answer the questions. Was working on memorizing all the notes to. Just the stupid spell casting. Stupid.
And she wanted him to clear his head? What had she said? Something about 'brain wrinkles'? Oliver would not shake his shoulders, but a deep breath he could do. So he took one, then two, three, four, etc. He didn't feel much better. He just had to try not to think about this stuff right? Easier thought then done. Oliver did that for a while, deep breath in, then deep breath out. Doing his very best to clear his mind. Thinking about, well, nothing much. His cat, yes. His cat. Clearing his mind from the thoughts of his family, and the failure and more then likely shame he brought, and thinking of the orange hyper demon. "Ok, I think I'm getting it..." He said now, his shoulders seamed to relax. Maybe he was getting it.

OOC Notes: Sorry about the hex code! I'm too used to it >< We can wrap this up if you like!
For someone who looked like they were still a bit wary of this whole process, Oliver seemed to warm up to it now that he was seated and joining in. Or who knows, maybe he was only doing it to pacify Emily, who was still clearly enjoying her time spent on the ground, looking like she could take a nap right then and there. Well, he was participating at the very least, following the steps Emily gave him to make it a bit easier.
"I should preface that there's no real right or wrong way of doing this," she said. "These are just the steps I like to use to help me settle in the zone. If you find it's not working, then that's okay! Different things will work for different people, but no matter what, as long as you're feeling relaxed and de-stressing, then you're in the right state of mind...!"
She stretched her back out before cosying back up to the tree behind her. "My third step is usually to close my eyes and listen to the sounds of nature around me... Trees, leaves, water... In a way, it's like a nicer distraction from whatever else is on your mind."
And Emily was willing to defend that claim. If Oliver hadn't guessed by now, nature was Emily's second lifeline. There was something so inherently peaceful and calming about it, like a soothing balm to her otherwise non-stop, sometimes overwhelmed brain activity. It was no wonder natural plants and herbs were used for healing! Even being among the wildflowers and under the sunshine helped Emily when she had oceans of parchment to write for her assignments.
"And for the final step... A final deep breath in... And upon exhale, open your eyes again." Emily demonstrated. "And voila! There you have the four steps to detoxing mental stress and fatigue!"
She loosened her posture and sat more casually, her legs uncrossed and slightly slumped back as she sat against the tree, still feeling the satisfying stretch in her lower back.
"So, what do you think? Has it helped at all?"
