Avery was walking outside near the forbidden forest. It was a beautiful day, and the sun was shining down on the grass. Making it glitter with the drops of rain still touching it. She breathed in the crisp air and sighed. Maybe being at Hogwarts for Christmas wouldn't be so bad after all. Maybe it would actually be fun. She glanced over and saw a group of students huddled around a sleeping bunny. He was cute, but Avery didn't care to stop. She just wanted to spend some time outside before it got too cold. As she was walking, she heard a rustling in the forbidden forest. That's weird. I don't think I've heard one of the creatures this close before. She shrugged it off and continued walking. Eventually, she found a spot beneath a shady tree that would be perfect. Then she pulled out a book and began reading. Suddenly, Avery heard screaming. She glanced over to see some kind of animal jump on a Slytherin girl. Avery immediately dropped her book, and ran towards the girl. She didn't recognize the creature, but whatever it was, she didn't want to risk it hurting the girl. "Get away from her! Shoo! Go away!" Avery screamed at it until it eventually ran off. Avery stretched out her hand to the girl and said, "All you alright? That animal was pretty big. Are you hurt?"

The girl. She had saved Karina's life. (Well, the animal didn't seem pretty dangerous...but still nice to think that someone really cares about her!)

"T-thank you. But why? I mean you're a Gryffindor, and I-I'm a Slytherin. Slytherins are known to be cunning, sneaky, mean. Well I'm not saying I am, but that's usually everyone's first instinct of thinking when they see a Slytherin. And well usually don't go around saving Slytherins. Thanks anyway."

Karina looked at the girl. She had silky brown hair. Of course. Gryffindor. Gryffindors are always helpful and kind to everyone. Why did Karina have to be sorted into the Slytherin house? Well, it wasn't all that bad. Being a Slytherin meant that she belonged somewhere. Except she didn't like belonging to the 'trickster house'.

Karina looked into the bushed where the girl had pushed the thing off of Karina.

"I'm Karina, what about you? If you want we can... we can... we ca-" Karina's face turned bright red, and her ears looked as though they were on fire. She had never been so nervous around others, why was she now? She mumbled the last few words of her previous sentence;

"It's no problem. No matter what house you are in, I don't care. Everyone needs help sometimes. Even the people that have a reputation to be tricksters. You didn't look like a bad person, anyway. You actually seemed pretty cool!" Avery responded to the girl. Avery smiled at the Slytherin girl. She was pretty with blonde-brown hair and grey eyes. SHe seemed very sweet, so that's why Avery decided she wanted to get to know the girl. She was obviously not like some former Slytherins Avery had met in the past. She seemed more. . . friendly? Open to being friend? "Nice to meet you, Karina. I'm Avery. If you want, we could go for a walk, so you can calm down. Whatever that creature was, it seemed pretty terrifying." Avery said to the girl, Karina. Avery wasn't sure what else to do. Was the girl already busy? Did she even want to talk to a Gryffindor? In the past, not all Gryffindors and Slytherins got along well together, but Avery didn't believe that. She thought that it was only old prejudice against each other that caused strife. Rather than it being the personality of the other person. Maybe if she got to know the girl, they may become great friends. Avery would love that! "Rwy'n gobeithio na wnes i ei dychryn. I hope I didn't scare her. Sorry about that. Sometimes I accidentally speak in Welsh when I feel nervous. I'm sorry if I scared you."

Karina stood speechless, trying to realize the thing she had just experienced. Did this Gryffindor really want to talk to Karina? It seemed more believable when the girl invited Kari to take a walk. She slowly nodded in approval. What did she say her name was? Avery? It's a nice name...

Karina kneeled down towards a bush. She had eyed some berries on it. They were weird and green. She took one off the bush and placed it in the palm of her hand, observing it. How far away had she wandered off from the school? It was sort of peeking out from the trees, and these berries don't grow near the school. Should they bring these over for observation?

Karina pointed to the berry. "What is this?" Then, without hesitation, she plopped it in her mouth!

It felt like the whole world stopped turning as she chewed the berry. It was sweet and surely wasn't anything she's ever tasted. Suddenly, she felt like she could fly. The colors that were normal, suddenly turned all neon. The trees look like they were dancing, and the leaves on them turned pink! Was Karina hallucinating? She tried to describe what she saw, but no words exited her mouth.

Avery froze in shock as the girl picked a berry and held it out in her palm so Avery could see. She didn't recognize it at first. But, once the girl had eaten it, she stood there. Mouth hanging open. At that moment she knew exactly what the girl had eaten. Well, she didn't know the name of it, but she did know it was dangerous. She had to get the girl help. Now. "Are you okay? I think we need to get you to the Hospital Wing. If I remember correctly, those berries are very toxic, though I can't remember their name." Avery said in a panic. Unsure of what she was going to do. Would she have to carry the girl? Or could she still walk? Avery glanced around frantically. Searching for someone else that could help. But, with her luck, no one was there. Looks like she was going to have to do this herself. She just hoped that the girl would hang in there. This was going to be a long walk. Especially with how far away from the castle they were. She began walking towards the girl. Hoping to guide her towards the castle instead of away from it. She had nothing else she could do at this point anyway. The damage had already been done.

Karina kept standing there. She just watched as the whole world turned abnormal. Avery looked like she knew what the berry was. Had they learned about it, this year in Herbology?
And what was she going to do? Her legs became stiff, and refused to walk. Avery walked over to Kari, hoping to help Karina, but her legs just became too wobbly, and she fell to her knees.

Karina noticed that she had little time before she passed out. That couldn't happen. Not now. Not with a Gryffindor standing by her. So, Kari pushed herself of the ground. But, she used too much force and crashed into a tree.

Yet, Karina managed to stand to her feet, she wasn't 100% sure she could walk. Slowly, she grabbed onto the nearby trees and began walking to the school.

The next thought that came to Karina's mind was: "What would the professors think?
Would the Herbology teachers be disappointed? Would the school nurse think that Karina is some kind of psycho that just eats everything she sees?" Or would the Herbology professor be curious about this plant?" There were only 2 ways this situation could go. Just in case, Karina grabbed more of these berries and stuffed them into her pocket, in case professors needed more information...

Avery watched as the girl fell to her knees, but when she moved to help her up, the girl quickly shot up to her feet. Then she crashed into a tree. Avery winced. She knew from experience that crashing into things wasn't the greatest thing. Avery finally decided to help the girl since she really seemed to be struggling. There was no way that she would be able to make it back to the school without passing out. As she walked over to grab the girl's arm and drape it over her shoulders, she watched the girl grab a few berries and put them in her pocket. Smart thinking. Maybe the professors or nurse will recognize them. Avery grabbed the girl's arm and pulled it around her shoulders. Supporting most of her weight. Avery didn't mind. She was strong, and she wasn't about to let this girl suffer through the consequences the berry would give her alone. It wasn't fair to her at all. Avery knew they could make it if they walked fast enough. She didn't know how much strength the girl had left, though. She was already wobbly on her feet. All Avery hoped was that she would be able to get the girl to the Hospital Wing before she was knocked out cold.

Karina's Uncle Gregory worked with magical and poisonous plants. He often told Karina facts about plants; which to eat, which not to eat, which to touch, and which to not. Something about this berry, was familiar. Had her uncle told her about this one? Or was it a different one? Either way, Karina's mind couldn't think straight. She tried to walk, but her body felt dehydrated. Was she dying?

Karina reached her hand out, feeling for Avery's shoulder. She gasped for air and whispered slowly.

"Ave-ewy... I-I... wate-"

Karina couldn't speak anymore. No words came out. She didn't understand. How could a small berry make her so weak? She scrambled as she tried to stand straighter. Then, as if being controlled by someone, ran off towards the school!

Being so weak, how was she running so quickly? Was someone controlling her? Her arms were wailing above her head, trying to grasp on some twigs or branches. She couldn't stop her legs from running. She turned her head around, but her neck stiffened. What was going on?

Just then, Kari tripped on a thick root and fell to the ground. It took her a moment to catch her breath. Where was she? Karina thought her legs were taking her to the school, but it looks like they took a turn somewhere. Her vocal-cords suddenly began to scream. Not under Karina's control, though.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!"

Avery ran after Karina. Unsure of what was happening. She didn't want to lose the girl and end up having a manhunt in order to find her. Avery needed to get her to the Hospital Wing. And fast. Avery had no idea how much longer the girl could handle the effects of the berry. It already looked like it was taking a toll on her. That wasn't a good sign. Finally Avery found Karina lying on the ground screaming uncontrollably. She crouched down to check on her. "Are you okay?" Avery questioned. Laying her hand gently on the other girl's arm, so she could check on her without her running. Avery had to do something. And fast. It was obvious that they had to get out of there. Now. There was no other way. "Alright. I'm going to help you to your feet and help you to the Hospital Wing. It looks like that berry is giving you worse effects than I had expected." Avery grabbed Karina's arm right under her elbow and hoisted her up. Grabbing on to her in order to support her weight. Avery made sure she had a good hold on the girl so she wouldn't run again. That wouldn't end well at all. Now all they had to do was get to the Hospital Wing. And fast. Before the effects got worse.
