Avery could feel the wind in her face as she gripped the school broom she had borrowed. Determination was etched across her face. She walked along the path toward the Quidditch Training Pitch where she would attempt to finally get some solo training in before she joined the Quidditch Team. She wanted to be as good as she could, so she would be a good player.

Finally she had gotten to the pitch. It was empty today, and she was happy about that. She needed somewhere to blow off some steam, since what she had found out the day before wasn't great. Yes, she was allowed to see her cousin and her home again over the summer, but her parents wouldn't be there too,

It wouldn't be the same. And that's why Avery needed something to do. She was very fidgety and could barely focus on her classes since all she could think about was what her father had said, and how now he knew why her mother was so distant. It broke her heart to not have a mother to talk to. All she had was her dad, and her dad didn't always have the answers that Avery needed. She just hoped that things would be better next year.

She carefully inspected her broom. Making sure that it was in good enough shape to actually ride today. After she decided that it was good, she mounted it, and kicked off. Finally in the air. She did a small warm up of racing around in circles just to make sure that she was ready. Then she released the small snitch out of her hand.

Avery chased the snitch. Racing at high speeds, or, as high of a speed as the broom could go, to try and catch the snitch. She needed to practice, so that she would be ready for when she was chasing the snitch in a real Quidditch match against other people. The snitch was within grasp. Avery reached out her hand. Making sure to keep one of her hands on her broom handle.

She was about to grab it when things went wrong. She was so focused on trying to capture the snitch that she hadn't realized how close she was getting to the wall. With her hand still extended toward the snitch, Avery quickly swerved the broom. Knocking her off balance.

She cried out in surprise as she was thrown off her broom. That's when she began to fall. Everything seemed to slow down as she fell to the ground. And once, she hit, everything came back. She must have blacked out for a few minutes because when she woke up, pain was shooting across her ankle. She groaned. This was not how she expected practice to go.

Avery laid in the grass of the pitch. Shocked. She had never fallen off a broom before, and it was an experience that she never wanted to feel again. She was afraid to even move. She didn't know for sure, but she guessed that her ankle was possibly broken. At least, from the pain she was in, that's what it felt like. I guess that's my first of many injuries in Quidditch. Avery thought to herself as she stared at the cloudy January sky.
