Slytherin M2 Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx

Bridget and Thora were doing well. They hadn't been hit by either of the opposing team's spells. Perhaps this was due to their small size, but regardless, it was a good thing, as they would both be on the ground right now if the spells had hit, Thora knocked over and Bridget searching for her wand. Also, both of their spells had made contact, Alexx on fire and Illowy sniffling. Oh, and Illowy was glaring at her. Bridget had the feeling dueling someone was not a great way to meet.

Bridget quickly brushed a stray hair out of her face with her free hand, the rest of her wavy brown hair tied back in a ponytail.

Alexx pointed her wand towards herself, no doubt to extinguish the flames dancing over her robes. Bridget felt a bit guilty, but their would be time for apologies after the match. She'd fix Alexx's robes, say sorry, whatever, but right now the opposing pair was still out to get her and the Fire-Making Spell had probably just made Alexx mad. They were all Slytherins, so she had the feeling this game could quickly turn pretty nasty...

Thora seemed to have gained some confidence and her and Illowy were once again aiming for each other. Bridget quickly thought over what to do. She didn't want to hit Alexx again while she was trying to put out the flames, as that seemed too cruel. Bridget had the feeling Alexx would have no problem attacking her if the roles were reversed, but she kept to her morals, instead pointing her wand towards Illowy.

Still conscience-stricken from setting Alexx on fire, Bridget decided to go with a spell that wasn't harmful but would still give her team an advantage. "Wingardium Leviosa," Bridget carefully pronounced, moving her wand in the S shape with a flick at the end they learned last year. If the spell succeeded, Illowy's robes would be levitated, taking her up with them. Also, as Jarleth Hobart had disastrously demonstrated, Illowy would be unable to move anywhere.

Bridget certainly didn't expect Thora and herself to continue doing so well, especially knowing her luck, but hopefully they'd get a few more hits in before things went downhill.

3rd Round

The Spell DC for this test is:

This duel was getting interesting. Both @Bridget Collins and @Thora Larkston decided that they were going to aim for one of the girls in a tag-team sort of way, one girl casting the Levitation Charm while the other cast Rictusempra at the sneezing girl. This strategy was something that Artemis himself would have used if he were dueling with a partner. Distract one and take out another, but never forgetting to keep an eye on the distracted opponent. There's no telling how long that original distraction would last. Miss Collins succeeded in making Miss @Illowy Magnard float and from the height level of where the young Slytherin was raised to, Miss Magnard wouldn't be returning to the ground for another two turns. It would be quite difficult for her to dodge any attacks aimed at her.

But at least she will still be able to cast back at her attackers. The girl better pray that her aim is true from now on if she wishes to help Miss @Alexx Séverin fight off their opponents. And speaking of the third year, the girl sadly failed to put herself out with the Extinguishing Charm and so her robes were still aflame and causing the girl some pain. Artemis knew for sure that she would be visiting the Hospital Wing for some Burn Paste later. And while Miss Séverin was trying to put out her own flames, Miss Magnard managed to cast her own Incendio at Miss Larkston! The girl wasn't on fire as the older Slytherin was, but she did take some damage from the initial attack.

'What is with these girls trying to set each other on fire? Well, at least they aren't Hufflepuffs. They would have instantly been running around like burning headless chickens,' Artemis thought to himself as he continued to watch the most recent round play out.

"Ow," mumbled Thora as flames hit her skin. Thankfully, the redhead wasn't aflame like the third year girl, Alexx, on the opposing team, but still. Not only that, but her spell just had to miss. Well, at least Illowy was floating in the air on top of a worsening cold. Thank goodness Bridget's spell hit.
At first Thora was planning to play it fair, but this was magical duelling? The redhead didn't want to hurt anyone, but apparently the other duellers felt otherwise. With a look of determination etched on her face and a bruised ego, Thora aimed at Illowy again. Let's try this again... thought the girl, praying that this time, her spell would connect. "Rictusempra!" said Thora, hastily moving her wand in a feather shape.

They spell hit! Certainly not as effectively as Illowy may have hope, slightly wanting Thora to go up in flames but she would take what she could get; simply thankful she didn't have the ramifications of the Tickling Charm the redhead at attempted to attack her with in addition. However, what she hadn't been counting on was for her other opponent to take her focus off her partner and then cast levitation.

Her feet left the ground and for a moment her heart stopped, at least she would have sworn it did. Nonononono, Illowy Magnard did not do flying in any capacity. Not on a broom and certainly on in the middle of a duel where she couldn't evade nearly as well. Her feet belonged on solid ground, "Bloody hell, Séverin! Smother yourself and help me already!" she barked, sniffling and rubbing her nose against her sleeve once more before sneezing.

The brunette was becoming all different sorts of frustrated by now; all the same, she needed to at least try to keep her head and not loose focus on her target, "Flippendo!" she shouted, wand aimed as clearly as she could at Thora. Naturally, by the end of this she didn't plan to hold any grudges against her competitors; this was the name of the game after all.

What?!? Of all the things that Alexx could possibly fail at, she failed to extinguish herself? Now was a terrible time to somehow be bad at spell casting! Alexx sighed, shaking her head. Well, if she couldn't set this damn thing out on her own, then she may as well just let this happen. Her eyes shot a hateful glare at her opponents, annoyed to no extent that the first thing they wanted to do was set her on bloody fire!

Pointing her wand at Bridget, she glared even harder. "Obscuro!" She called out. She hoped that at least this would work. There would be Hell to pay if it didn't. Alexx was about ready to drop the wand and go toe-to-toe with these little kids.

Their luck hadn't entirely failed them yet. Thora was hit by Incendio, but luckily she didn't catch fire like Alexx did. Somehow, the Extinguishing Charm had failed Alexx and she still had fiery tongues dancing around her robes. Apparently the other team had no problem setting her teammate on fire, so her guilt died down.

Illowy was levitated a meter in the air, the result of Bridget's successful Wingardium Leviosa. Bridget was pretty sure that Illowy was scared of heights, what with her yelling at Alexx to help and the brief flash of fear that crossed her pale blue eyes.

Thora and Illowy were still aiming for each other and by now it seemed they had a death wish for each other. Bridget was tempted to cast another spell towards Illowy while she couldn't dodge, but she didn't trust Alexx to focus on putting herself out again. For one, failing at her previous spell probably just made her more mad, and besides, Bridget had the feeling Alexx was going for the element of surprise.

Her left hand trained her wand back at the third year. Spells raced through her mind. Her mercy period was over--now it was time to duel. Alexx certainly wouldn't have given her a break.

"Spongify!" Bridget said. She realized the majority of her strategizing was coming from looking at Thora, and she remembered that Professor Vernatis had said to strategize with your teammates. A bit of verbal communication could be a good thing.

"Should we formulate a strategy?" she asked the red-head, loud enough for her to hear above the yelling of incantations but not so as to let the opposing team catch her words. Things were heating up, and if they were going to work together, they needed to start now.

Artemis flinched slightly when the spell from Miss @Thora Larkston hit the floating girl. Not only would Miss @Illowy Magnard be floating for a while longer, but she was currently giggling uncontrollably from the Rictusempra thrown at her. Not being able to dodge really impacted the Slytherin, but it didn't keep her down. Even through all of her giggling, Miss Magnard managed to cast her own spell at her opponent and knock the other girl off her feet with a well placed Flippendo. 'Dodging might not be the flying snake's strong suit but she, sure enough, could shoot off a spell,' Artemis thought to himself as he watched Thora pick herself up off the floor. 

Looking over at the other two Slytherins, Artemis sighed as yet again, another spell of Miss @Alexx Séverin didn't go through. The blindfolding charm, Obscuro, didn't even flutter out of the girl's wand and Artemis wasn't sure if she was just lacking the confidence to cast spells since she was still burning, or if her luck was just really poor at this time. Either way, if the young third year didn't manage to get a spell off soon, Artemis was going to make her sit through a mandatory tutoring session after she left the hospital wing. 'At least she managed to dodge the Softening Charm from Miss @Bridget Collins. I know she can do better than this even though she's still on fire,' the man thought to himself. He looked over at the smaller Slytherin as she stood around glancing at her wand as her own spell failed just the same as her upperclassman.

"You ladies need to concentrate on what you're doing," the man muttered softly enough to be heard by the surrounding students but not by the four duelists.

Thora gingerly stood up rather ungracefully. That hurt. Why did she always have to get hit? Well, at least the redhead's spell had succeeded too. Shooting a small glare at Illowy, she turned back to Bridget. "Should we formulate a strategy?" the brunette asked in a low voice. 
"Um, sure," Thora replied in a loud whisper. "I'll keep going for Illowy for now, unless you have a different plan." She inched closer to her teammate to make sure the other team couldn't hear her words. 
Raising her wand again, she moved it in the shape of a flame. "Incendio!" called the redhead. Hopefully--hopefully, the spell would hit and Thora would remain undamaged.

Somehow, Bridget was still unscathed. She hadn't been hit by a single spell yet, which was surprising. She had the feeling Alexx didn't usually struggle this much at spell-casting, but Bridget certainly wasn't complaining. If Obscuro had hit... well, it would have been annoying, to say the least.

"Um, sure. I'll keep going for Illowy for now, unless you have a different plan," Thora whispered in response, picking herself up off the floor due to Illowy's Knockback Jinx. The red-head winced--getting thrown to the floor like that probably left a few bruises.

"Okay," she replied. Their communication wasn't changing anything, but at least now they were open to sharing their thoughts.

She was, if she was entirely truthful, a bit discouraged that her spell hadn't hit last round, but she shoved those thoughts to the back of her mind. At least her spell had made it out of her wand, unlike Alexx's. Again, she attempted the Softening Charm, very careful this time to aim her wand where she wanted the spell to hit.

"Spongify!" she called with a spiral motion of her wand. After all, as that annoying quote went, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

Artemis stared at the two girls who had already cast their spells and were discussing their strategy with approval. Looking over to the other team, he frowned slightly as he wondered what exactly @Alexx Séverin and @Illowy Magnard had planned to do since one was still floating in the air and the other was still on fire. Neither girl had made a move and the Charms professor had to wonder if the two girls were hit with Immobulus instead of Incendio and Wingardium Leviosa instead. Either way, the two would need to make a move soon. 

"Miss Séverin. Miss Magnard. If I were either of you, I would make a move as soon as possible. You opponents will either knock you out or win by default if you do not cast a spell soon," he paused as he sighed before continuing. "Do try to keep this duel entertaining," the man drawled, "I would hate to have to disqualify either of you for lack of participation."
