"Come on, baby, don't you hurt me anymore.... I'm not the same way that I was before. I got goosebumps all over me.... when you're around, hard for me to breathe-" Half singing, half muttering, Elena was sat near the balcony ledge. A breathtaking night sky was displaying above her, as she was scribbling in a notebook. At her right, standing on a tripod, was a midnight blue telescope, engraved with her initials. A gift from her dad at her 8th birthday, along with the notebook she was currently writing in.
Sketches of the nearby constellations, along with notes - almost unreadable, she had a terribly messy writing - and some random doodles filled the pages of the little black book. Pushing her blonde hair behind her shoulder, she got up and changed the orientation of her telescope. Andromeda. A tiny smile illuminated her face. She loved that constellation, along with her story. Taking a new page, she started drawing the princess's stars.
A cold breeze was blowing, gently playing with the girl's honey strands. Shivering, she tucked her hands in her sleeves, taking a break. Condensed breath was coming out of her mouth as she leaned against the pillar, staring at the moon. Picking up a piece of chocolate in the bag she had previously packed, she enjoyed the moment. Night sky, the moon, hot cocoa and chocolate. What more could she ask ?
A faint rustle suddenly interrupted the moment. Elena's sixth sense was immediatly alert, as she scanned the tower. Shit. Am I going to get caught ? Praying it was a random cat, she stared at the place where the sound was heard. The whole thing was silent. "Who goes there ?" she asked, fingers grazing at her wand.

Clear nights were common in October, and the lack of light pollution in the sky drew Luka to the Astronomy Tower of Hogwarts. He walked up the seemingly endless stairs that led to the top of the tower in an unhurried manner. He wore a dark tan, long-sleeve button-up shirt with straight-leg black pants, his blond hair combed but not styled. He carried with him a hard-cover copy of Leo Tolstoy's well-known novella, The Death of Ivan Ilyich. The book hits some rather heavy topics but the young boy was quite fond of the book as it was one of his grandfather's favorites.
Luka's pace slowed to stop as he heard a voice coming from the Astronomy classroom he had finally reached. The voice's high pitch assured him that he wasn't in threat of being caught by a professor. The curious boy leaned against the wall of the staircase, listening. It sounded like a girl, likely around his age, singing some English song he had never heard. Although, to be fair, he had never purposefully listened to any song that was sung in English. While Luka was fairly fluent in the language, having been taught it from a young age, it wasn't one that he particularly enjoyed listening to, music-wise. Most languages have a certain flow to them, but English's flow reminded him of a river during a thunderstorm, choppy and confusing.
Deciding he would investigate the source of the voice, he walked up the last few remaining steps and entered the Astronomy classroom. The walls were lined with bookshelves filled with hundreds of books and little figurines. Luka slowly made his way towards the open balcony, taking in the busily decorated classroom. As he walked through the room his boot grazed against a loose piece of parchment on the floor. Normally the sound made by that wouldn't be heard, but in the dead of night when the only sound around is your own thoughts it was just loud enough to alert the girl on the balcony. She spun around, cautiously glancing around the room.
"I apologize if I startled you, miss," his velvety voice echoing slightly in the empty classroom. Luka walked closer to the balcony, his pale skin appearing luminescent in the moonlight. His brown eyes flashing their reddish tint as he inspected the girl standing in front of him. She had long dark blonde hair and soft features, her eyes looked nearly black in the light given from the night sky, but there was a blueish hue to them. She was a rather attractive young lady, though girls' appearances had never been much of a significance to him, so he thought nothing of it. "I was just curious, what was the song you were singing just a moment ago?" he queried, his Russian accent rather prominent in his speech.

Elena was frozen into place, staring at the place where the faint sound came from. A few seconds after, a voice rose from the shadow, making her slightly jump. A deep voice, with a heavy Russian accent, who could only belong to a boy. The mystery shadow man apologised for startling her, before stepping in the moonlight.
She rose an eyebrow at the boy's appearance. Who dresses like that in the middle of the night ? Although not understanding the need to dress so uncomfortably, the blonde girl's eyes appreciated a well put together outfit, and that boy certainly knew how to dress. Her own clothes suddenly felt underdressed, as she tucked her hands in her midnight blue sweater. She had just grabbed a pair of flared jeans, took the first sweater she saw and packed her bag. He had sandy blonde hair, paired with deep dark brown eyes. Elena thought catching a glimpse of red in them, but she shrugged it off.
Her eyes then fell on the book he was carrying, and a smile immediately split her face. "Tolstoy ? What did you think of it ? I preferred Anna Karenina, but this one was also a masterpiece." The words slipped past her lips before she could hold them back. Normal, Elena. Be normal. A faint blush colouring her cheeks, she cleared her throat, hands fidgeting with her silver heart locket. "Elena." She smiled. "My name." she added, mentally scolding herself. "I'm Elena Clark. You ?"
What is wrong with me ? Well, she knew : it was too late to properly socialise. The sudden apparition of the blonde haired boy had taken her by surprise, and she didn't know how to react. "I was just curious, what was the song you were singing just a moment ago?" The boy's question made her raise her eyes again, meeting the boy's - he definitely had some strange red reflections. She wondered if it was natural, or if he had some kind of backstory behind them. Focusing on his question, she cracked a smile at his accent.
"It's Nervous by The Neighbourhood," she explained "An American band. Do you know about them ? What kind of music do you listen to ?" Sitting back against her pillar, she attempted to grab the bag of chocolate, planning to offering some to the russian boy. Doing so, her notebook slipped and fell on the floor, opening at random doodles she drew when she was bored in class, a drawing of the constellation Lyra and Cygnus, along with scribbled notes about each story. Taking it back, she mumbled an excuse, "I just get bored sometimes, it's nothing really amazing."
The moon was shining brightly over the two kids, illuminating the balcony.

A flicker of confusion passed over Luka's expression before realizing what she meant, "Ah, yes, Tolstoy. I've quite enjoyed this one, it's my grandfather's personal favorite. I've yet to read Anna Karenina, but it's on my list." He held a neutral expression as the girl introduced herself as Elena Clark. Most definitely a Hogwarts student. The English smile at strangers, right? Like the Americans I believe. "Luka Antonov," he said with an emotionless polite smile and extended his hand to shake hers. For a moment Elena seemed to inspect him, but before he could determine that she started explaining what song it was that she had been singing.
"I don't believe I've ever heard of 'The Neighbourhood.' I don't listen to much American music," Luka told the blonde girl, while leaning against the door frame of the entrance to the balcony. "I don't listen to much music to be completely honest. Often it's because I don't have the means to, electronics don't exactly work at my house seeing as magic is quite present there," he explains in an unrushed manner, make sure to pronounce everything correctly. He's technically fluent in English but the lack of speaking it has caused his skills to grow a bit rusty.
While he had been talking Elena had grabbed a bag of what appeared to be chocolates, causing a notebook to fall to the ground. The curious boy tilted his head to the left to better see what was illustrated on the pages the notebook fell open on. Cygnus and... what's that one? He watched as she picked it back up and muttered something about getting bored sometimes, perhaps to explain the constellation drawings. "Cygnus, right? The swan, it's one of my Mamochka's favorites. She loves Astronomy and space. I've learned much from her, but I don't recognize that second constellation. What's that one called?" He fidgeted with the corner of his book, as he looked at Elena expectantly.

☆ Quietly nodding, Elena had a gentle smile lingering on her face. The sudden interaction had caught her off guard, but she was now relaxed, as usual. The night helped her ease her mind, especially on rough nights like this one. The moon's gentle rays illuminated the two students' heads, quietly watching them. An emotionless smile plastered on his face, he extended a hand, which Elena shook after a moment of hesitation. "Pleasure to meet you."
As he leaned on the doorframe, she tilted her head, surprised by his words. "Really?" she asked. "You should try it. I believe music heals the soul as much as literature or any kind of art." Various artists had helped her get through the long, sleepless nights of her childhood, and she owed a great deal to it. Hiding a smile at how he spoke, she nodded toward him. "You're Russian, right? From Durmstrang?" It was the only Russian school of magic she knew of, even if she didn't know much about it.
As the notebook fell to the ground, she noticed Luka being curious about her sketches. Surprised when he spoke, she considered him for a second. "Yes, it is," she said, surprise and delight evident in her voice. Her passion for astronomy and space wasn't often shared by her peers, and meeting someone who knew some things about the universe that surrounded them was enough to bring a smile to her face. "Your mother loves astronomy?" she asked, picking a piece of chocolate from her snacks. "She's right, it truly is fascinating. Fascinating to learn what we know, and fascinating to understand we know almost nothing about it." Her quiet and peaceful attitude returned again.
"Oh," she frowned, taking her notebook out again and flipping through the pages. "I believe it's Lyra, since it's right below Cygnus, but—oh, yes, it is." Finally finding the right page, she pointed at the drawing. "Orpheus's myth." Smiling softly, she ran a finger over the page before looking back at him. "Do you like Greek mythology? Or any other kind of mythology?" While talking, she grabbed the bag of snacks and offered him some.

He nodded slowly to Elena's question, "Yes, to both. There are two schools that accept students from Russia though, Durmstrang and Koldovstoretz." Luka's moms had wanted him to get out of the country for his school as it wasn't very accepting of people like him. Most of his cousins went to Koldovstoretz, the one who attended Durmstrang had graduated the year prior.
The shadow a a smile flickers over his face the mention of his mother. She'd taught him so much about the stars and every other thing in space. Her lifelong obsession had led to his obsession with black holes, which lasted about two years."She's actually the main reason I came up here," he said with a soft sigh. "She's never been to the UK, so she told me to spend some time looking at the stars over here. See what was different and all that," Luka wouldn't ever admit it to anyone, but he'd been feeling quite homesick, especially since arriving at Hogwarts. Stargazing was something he would do with his mamochka when the nights were warm. The two would be out there for hours during the summer talking and pointing out different constellations. He had rather fond memories of those nights. Even if he wasn't with his mamochka, just looking up into the night sky made him feel at home.
"Orpheus... So Lyra I assume is the lyre he was given by Apollo, correct?" Luka's grandfather had many books about Greek mythology and he had read them all by the time he was ten. So he was quite familiar with the stories of many constellations. "I suppose you could say that. I had a fascination with it when I was younger so I know a good bit about it," he said while raising a hand to politely decline the snacks she had offered him. "So, Miss Elena, what are you doing out here so late? Will you not get in trouble if you're caught?" he asked softly, a slight smirk in his expression.

| xxxxxxxx | Tapping her finger on the page, the young girl rose her eyebrows in surprise. "Really ?" She asked, curiosity meddling with the calmness of her tone. The various books she had read during the summer had not informed her of another magic school taking place in Russia. "What makes them different ?" She tilted her head, slightly frowning. To her knowledge, there was at least one magical school per continent, sometimes more, but she never heard of having two schools located in the same country. Her heart melted at his confession, a hint of nostalgia corrupting her gaze. Her passion for astronomy had been one of her father's legacy, and the countless nights spent stargazing with him felt like a blurry memory now. "That's adorable," she sighed. She brushed through the pages, tracing the outlines of her drawings. "You must miss her a lot." Looking up, she gazed at the distant stars, playing with the moon's light. "So ?" She asked with a playful smile. "Are England's stars different from Russia's ?" Fighting the urge to switch into full nerd ranting mode and spit out facts on that poor russian boy, she nodded, bitting her inner cheek. "Indeed ! Son of Calliope, and one of the only mortals who ever entered and left Hades's realm." Lost in her thoughts, she rolled a chocolate between her fingers before biting it. Smiling as he agreed on how exciting greek myths were, she leaned against a nearby pillar. "I was trying to learn ancient greek, but there's so many interesting languages that I have yet to learn..." She sighed. "Russian was my favourite for a while but I let it down." The golden haired girl always had a fascination for foreign dialects, and a desire to learn as much as she could. His sudden question caught her off guard, and she found an immediate interest in the intricate designs of her rings. Her thoughts racing, she blinked a few times, her navy eyes avoiding the insistant stare of the ink black notebook resting inside her bag. Pushing her blonde locks behind her shoulder, she looked back at him. "I had trouble falling asleep," she smiled, half-lying through her teeth. "And I had an astronomy homework I needed to work on." This technically was true, even if she sounded like it only happened on rare occasions. And not every single night. Luckily, she never seemed to get caught. Raising an eyebrow at him, she retorted, "And I could ask you the same question, Mister Antonov." She didn't know how to address him - the only russian she had met seemed to prefer titles and last names. "What brought you into these halls ?" |

"Koldovstoretz is younger," he shrugged. "I honestly don't know much about it, though most of my family attended it." Choosing which school to attend hadn't been difficult for Luka, Durmstrang was his dream school. His grandfather had gone to it and often produced powerful wizards.
He shifted his gaze up to the night sky, after a moment he broke the silence, "It's not too different actually. Because there's Orion," he gestured at the constellation as he spoke, "And you can see Orion from where I live as well. I assume the only difference is the time zone really. Looks nearly the same." He listened to her ramblings while keeping his focus on the sky, he was glad that at least he recognized the stars in a place so far from home.
He scoffed quietly at her question and crossed his arms, "Curiosity, I guess. And maybe wanting some distance from people. Even in the dead of night Hogwarts still seems so loud. How that's managed I have no idea..." He was slowly growing to somewhat enjoy Elena's company, her presence wasn't overwhelming, unlike most people he had encountered during his visit to Hogwarts. "And also the fact that the peak of the Orionids is near, was hoping to catch a glimpse of them. In my opinion, they're the best meteor shower to watch." Not wanting to sound like a star-obsessed nerd, he fell silent, turning his attention back to the sky.
