AEIOUSA𝖙he Clack of the train's wheels against it's metal tracks lulled Prat into a peaceful trance. His eyes were fixated on the ever-changing tapestry of the countryside rushing by his eyes outside the window. The anticipation of his upcoming birthday gave him a warm and fizzy sensation, one much harder to ignore for him. He couldn't help but attempt to guess what his parents might have planned for him. His mother's cryptic writing and his father's short note in their last letters had been intriguing. But his attention in present was occupied by chocolate frogs. As he eagerly unwrapped one from the bunch of his unreasonable financial choices, he almost leaped with joy when he discovered a rare golden frog amidst the bunch. It was a person he had never heard of, but the mere thrill of finding something so unique made him feel as though the universe had proclaimed him the winner for once. Gently placing this newfound treasure into his pocket, prat kept observing the ever changing scenery ahead of him.

With time, the scenery outside grew blurry and the rhythmic gentle sway of this train rocked him into slumber, Prat's mind swam afloat within a whirlpool of his own dreams, further influenced by his wishes. In those drowsy thoughts, he saw himself soaring through the skies on a broomstick much faster than the one he currently had, a gleaming broom that responded to his every whim. He scored the winning goal for Gryffindor(????, he was confused too) in a Quidditch match that had the crowd roaring with his name. A moment of triumphant, one that felt so real he could almost feel the snitch against his palm. With succession it changed to his mother's laughter echoing through the dream, a sound he cherished as she proudly observed from the stands with his father, whose eyes seemed to be brimming with pride. Soon it transitioned to a birthday feast, his birthday feast. Laid out on a table so long it could host every student from Hogwarts if tried. The smell of these delicacies filled his nostrils, making his stomach grumble even in his sleep. He saw his friends, sitting around the table, their faces unrecognizable, almost smudged to a cohesive work. Before he could even get a glimpse of his gift, His dream transitioned once, again. With him falling endlessly as his body jerked seemed to be his breaking point.

With an end to his awful dream, Prat's eyes snapped open with the train's wheels screeching against the station's platform. The vividness of his dream clung to him, almost like an eerie embrace. The confusion of that dream carrying over to his reality. He quickly pushed his glasses back up his nose, the cold metal a reminder that he was back to his own reality, caged in this train compartment. He checked the golden frog card in his pocket, the tactile reassurance grounding him. The disorienting feelings from his dream faded into the cacophony of the station. The hustle and bustle of families reuniting meant he had no time to think on his dreams. His stomach rumbled again, a not-so-gentle reminder of the hunger he was feeling. Glancing around, he noticed the other kids gathering their belongings. The train's doors slid open with a hiss, revealing the welcoming sight of the parents of the kids around.

Unlike other students, no grand reunion at the station awaited him. No warm hugs or excited squeezes from a mother. Instead, he was to navigate the Muggle world once more, the side of reality that never quite felt like home, it was closer to one of those muggle attraction known as a "resort" or a "theme park". He gathered his bag and stepped onto the platform, the rush of other kids swarmed around him. The thought of staying at his Muggle Aunt's house brought a peculiar mix of comfort and claustrophobia. It was a place where he could be himself without the constant vigilance at their own house. Yet it was also a place devoid of their home's very essence, Magic. Sighing to himself, Prat pushed through the throng of people, quite eager to begin the next leg of his arduous muggle journey.

His eyes searched the sea of unfamiliar faces for any sign of his uncle, the only beacon of familiarity in this foreign land. The boredom grew with each second that ticked by, each minute felt as if it stretched into an eternity. It was during this that his gaze fell upon a peculiar object in Alyssea's hand, a small, metallic square that seemed like a miniature window to another dimension. It was one of those metallic bomb things that his aunt and uncle were obsessed with. His mother assured him they weren't bombs but why else would they blow up in wizarding word. He wondered why the muggles would carry such a device in their hand. Even at his muggle Uncle's place during holidays, he kept away from that creature. He did agree with himself on how Bombs and this badger seemed to go hand in hand. He cleared his throat, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible. "Alyssea, how does that... phone thing work?".

[OOC Note:] Big post since i had to add some lore, no need to feel forced to match word count.

The train ride back to King's Cross could not be any faster. Alyssea was getting tired of listening to silence, lest she pull out her enchanted radio and blast her music to everyone else. She also had a list of things to research on the internet as soon as she crossed the magical barrier between Wizarding London and Muggle London, all accumulated from random thoughts that came up throughout the first half of the year. So, with the internet just a few steps away, Alyssea was practically itching to get her phone and start scrolling.

(No, she was not addicted. If she was, her time at Hogwarts would be a major problem. She simply... missed it, that's all.)

She found her parents on the platform, already prepared with a trolley to carry her bags. Well, it wasn't necessary since she packed so light (most of her clothes, some small trinkets she couldn't part with, and her ice skates for a start) but better safe than sorry, she guessed. Alyssea could very well have bought a whole new bag with things from Hogsmeade, though there really was not much to bring back from there, either.

Anyways!

A hug and a kiss later, her father finally handed her phone to her once they crossed the barrier. The battery was a bit low but not dead yet, so it would be enough to go through all her apps and get a quick gist of what happened since August. Most of it were irrelevant, like TikTok telling her about a new trend that happened twenty-eight days ago, so clearing her notification list wasn't as daunting as it looked. There were a few texts from unknown numbers, one of which happened to be Lilliana reaching out. Alyssea quickly saved her number as "lilli 💜" before a voice caught her attention.

"Alyssea," her mother called, "Your friend's asking you about your phone."

Said friend happened to be Prat Pass, fellow Duelling Captain (though that was a new role she'd taken up just last month) and duelling fanatic. She looked at him, then at her phone, and back at him while turning her (locked) screen to him. "This?"

She pressed the power button and watched it light up. "It runs on battery, which you charge whenever it gets low. I'm on 43% right now, so it's not too low that I need to charge but it probably won't last ages either." Alyssea was no expert on electricity or whatever field works on phones, but she knew enough to at least explain why it couldn't work in the wizarding world. "Is this your first time in the Muggle world?"

“I hope she'll be a fool — that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

AEIOUSAPrat looked up, as he snapped out of his own world and back into the reality of the bustling King's Cross station. He got so lost in his own thoughts that he hadn't even noticed Alyssea's parents standing there, he had approached her completely oblivious to their presence. His felt slight embarrassment as he realized his oversight, his mother would certainly not approve of this, he had to remedy this situation. Quickly, he extended his hand to her parents, hoping to cover this momentary social faux pas with a friendly smile. " Mr. and Mrs. Brown," he said, trying to sound as composed as he possibly could, "It's nice to meet you, I apologize for intruding."

He had always found greeting customs like handshaking to be a bit awkward, it was considered bad to have a weak grip but so was having a grip too rough on the other person. If it came with all these troubles, why even employ it? but it had been something he learned, as it was considered a sign of goodwill in their world. That was what he intended to replicate, hoping his sincerity would shine through.

As Prat shook their hands in a grip he diced was firm enough awkward handshake, his mind raced with thoughts, questioning whether he should answer Alyssea with truth or fabricate another lie which might be easier to explain. "Yes, this is my first time, i don't usually get a chance to be on this side." he lied. In reality, he had visited the Muggle world quite a lot of times, mainly thanks to his aunt's marriage to a Muggle. He had even attempted to best some of their video games, which were surprisingly entertaining despite the lack of magic, one he fondly remembered about a plumber and another about a blue hedgehog who looked closer to mouse. But those were private escapades, shared with only a select few.

He lied, it was better this way. He couldn't let someone from school find out he indulged in muggle interests, much worse if his grandfather found out. He fiddled with his hands and nodded politely. "It's quite... magical, this side" he said, choosing his words without a care, the irony in his own words not even apparent to him. The truth was, while he found some muggle contraptions amusing, others were utterly baffling for him, often leaving him befuddled. The phone she held was one of those devices, a creation that both puzzled him yet continued to intrigue him. But he wasn't about to admit that.

Prat's confusion only grew as she mentioned charging the phone. Charging? is that like Feeding it? he mused to himself, attempting to conceal his ever growing confusion. He had seen about these Muggle devices that needed something called "battery" to work from his aunt. But the concept still left him confused. It was akin to asking a wand to eat a carrot before it could perform magic. He decided to play along, tipping his head to the side in a display of curiosity.

"it charges?" he asked nodding his head (he has no idea what that even means), his voice tinged with a hint of amusement. "So, what else does it do??" he inquired, his tone earnest as he leaned in slightly, eager to learn more about this peculiar gadget.

But amidst his fascination, a thought surfaced, briefly breaking the spell his curious mind had cast upon itself. He had forgotten all about his uncle who was supposed to pick him up. Prat quickly brushed the worry aside. They were probably delayed, as they often were, and he had time.
