Date: Saturday, 30 November 2024
Time: Mid-morning
Location: Quidditch Training Pitch
· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Koko had been at the Quidditch training pitch for most of her morning, training on just about everything she could think of. She had attempted to practise scoring with the Quaffle, but the thing about that was that it was important to have someone else to block. Without that, not only was it unhelpful, but it was also boring. In a practice, who wanted to score each time? Without failure, you could not grow.
She was now working on speed training with dives. It wasn't as if she had to dive very often — she wasn't a Seeker, after all — but it was still an important skill to learn, she reckoned, to use if she ever had to help the Seeker find the Snitch or to even catch more falling teammates. It was important, she thought, to be versatile.
She was using her Oakshaft 79 — for the status, the prestige? for the familiarity? She herself could not be sure — as she tilted the shaft downwards, letting the wind pelt her in the face. Something about the rawness of flying without gear was liberating. The freedom of it, the lack of restraint from her obligations, might have been what made flying the thing that usually brought her happiness.
Usually — except this was one of those moments that was now rare, one of those moments when she couldn't help but smile from sheer exhilaration. She soared back up to the sky and inhaled sharply, levelling out, before drifting slowly to the ground so that she could breathe a bit more easily. She needed to do that again, and again, and again. Anything for that feeling of freedom. Anything.
She was so caught up in her newfound joy that she was rather removed from her surroundings — she likely wouldn't notice anyone near her, not unless they were close enough to easily strike up a conversation.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

Beater Than You
It was not two weeks after her very first Quidditch game, that while dragging on for ages had proven to be a good success story for the unruly girl. For the midmorning of Saturday she found her way to the Quidditch pitch like on so many Saturday mornings. The sun had already shown its face, though clouds and wind would bully it into the background. Oogie was hardly surprised, first of all she was used to Scotland's moods but it was also on the brink of winter. The crisp air would not hurt her however as a woolen scarf wrapped its way around her neck, further insulated by her thick hair exploding from her head and practically veiling her.
Her Firebolt was comfortably hoisted over her shoulder, her right hand gripping it at the tip of the handle for support. Both her hands were protected against the cold with black fingerless gloves made from leather that would still allow a proper grip on the handle when flying. A black pullover would make the top layer on her torso accompanied by some red pants and heavy, black boots. Her helmet dangled from her neck and rested between her shoulder blades, the clasp at her throat holding it in place or else it would tumble to the ground. The by now familiar and iconic froggy helmet she couldn't be missing. This was how she entered the pitch with a resting annoyed expression.
A short glance into the air to ensure there was space enough she slipped on her helmet and applied enough pressure downwards onto the broom handle for it to flip forward, over her shoulder, allowing her hand to grip it and fluidly push off the ground while maneuvering the broom so she could fly. And off she was. She loved the warm up most when practicing alone, just zooming around with the wildest maneuvers. Though she was sure that Pax would disagree in calling that a 'warm up' not that the girl cared.
Oonagh flipped herself over and flew through one of the goal keeper hoops with her head facing the ground, when she caught eye of another student practicing in these early hours and a smug smile appeared on her face as her mind was at work almost immediately, as she flipped over once more to fly the right way up. "On your left, dodge this!" she shouted and that would be the Slytherin's only warning before she released the bludger and started a bludger attempt. Of course Oonagh was no monster, not really, and would follow up with a catch attempt if she were to be actually successful.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Coming up from her dive at a rather steep angle, Koko had no cares in the world for anything else around her. She paid no mind to the chaotic child soaring through the Quaffle hoops in favour of levelling out. Once she was no longer heading upwards or downwards, she turned into a lap, for once taking it leisurely instead of attempting to force the broom to gain speed. She had long forgotten that flying could be nice, could be freeing, could be a break from competition.
'On your left, dodge this!'
'Huh?' Koko muttered. She glanced to her left, but nothing was weird. She chalked it up to some kid's voice carrying on the wind — perhaps some stupid first years were throwing things at each other again. She carried on with her calming flight and smiled, really smiled, something more than just the small smile she always wore. The crisp air bit into her skin, but Koko continued to fly forwards, gaze caught in the way the sun reflected from behind the clouds, giving part of the otherwise overcast sky an eerie glow until —
WHAM.
It hit her right in the stomach, head-on, and how she hadn't seen the stupid bludger coming was beyond her. Koko's face contorted as she clutched her broom tighter, amber gaze scouring the pitch to try to find the idiotic culprit of this atrocity. She slowly caught her breath and finally sat up so that her posture was straight and she sat at her full height, whatever that might mean, despite the bruising pain radiating from her abdomen. Koko glanced downwards at her shirt and found herself frowning as the pain was shoved to the back of her mind. Dirt streaked through the otherwise lovely light brown cashmere fabric of her cardigan.
'What the fuck!?' she spat.
Now, she turned her broom and actually focused on searching for the culprit. She surveyed the training pitch like an offended sentinel, brows drawn low over her amber eyes, one hand pointed out in an attempt at finding whatever the target of her wrath might be.
There! A child!
...A child. What type of child just sent bludgers — and rather strong ones at that — careening at innocent people!? The hand on Koko's broom tightened, and she gritted her teeth together. She flew to get a better look at the girl and sat primly on her broom, arms crossed over her chest as she stared at that ridiculous frog hat. 'I'm sorry, but just what do you think you're doing?' She fought the urge to roll her eyes at the child. 'Have you got any idea how much this shirt cost!?'· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

Oogie observed the course of her bludger, which frankly had been a weak shot even though her skill still managed to make it look somewhat acceptable. However especially with the warning she had given that girl in advance there was simply no possible way....
and she was hit. Oogie slapped a free hand in front of her mouth and spluttered out a little laugh, a moment forever seared into her mind, she would savor this. The person seemed mostly fine as well and it was only one hit anyway, so surely that person would be fine. Still oh so amused by this all, Oogie actually dared to approach the fuming creature, hearing the cuss which almost made her burst out in laughter again. Biting her lip to prevent that, she gave the other girl a look over and she seemed vaguely familiar. Oogie was however unable to hide the aura of smug pride emanating from her as she recognized the damage she had done despite it being such a bad shot.
As the girl however properly approached Oonagh, the Gryffindor couldn't help but snicker at the posh way she sat on her broom, like a fair maiden from old tales. "Well I warned ye and ye decided tae fly straight intae it" she responded nonchalantly and all it was missing was a shrug, which she left out since it looked way cooler on the ground than in the air. When she began to be upset over her blouse, Oogie could not help but roll her eyes. "Na, but do ye? Again ye were the one tae decide tae wear it to Quidditch, princess," she said and gave a mock curtsy with hand giving a little twirl and all.
"Also 't wis just a bludger, learn tae have some fun," she added and her gaze followed to where the bludger had flown off to after hitting her, just hovering in the air now. Was Oonagh quite possibly making the situation worse by not backing off? Quite possibly, but she did not care, especially with her counterpart being in such a high and mighty mood, it just caused Oogie to get bristly in return.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Laughter tinkled throughout the pitch, a devilish noise that only made the blonde-haired Slytherin's eyes narrow further. Any semblance of indifference in Koko's expression faded as her lips contorted into a scowl. She had to force herself to keep the rest of her body still, mostly relaxed, resting sidesaddle on the broom, legs crossed at the ankles.
As much as she would have liked to appear indifferent, the younger girl's insolent demeanour robbed her of that. She could hardly listen to this menace of a child's words. How was it Koko's fault that a bludger had hit her!? She bit back a growl, thankfully, and instead glared bitterly at the child. Oh, to knock that stupid fucking frog hat off of her stupid fucking head.
Then, the child had the audacity to roll her eyes, and — oh, oh no. Koko leant forward just slightly, maintaining her position on her broom, and she glanced down at the girl, attempting to make eye contact. 'Do not call me "princess".' Her tone was far less warm, light or airy than usual, bearing more grit than most things she had ever said before. Something shifted inside her when the girl gave a mock curtsy to accentuate her point. She tried, oh, she tried to come up with a comeback, opening her mouth slightly only to close it again, gritting her teeth. Finally, she, too, rolled her eyes. 'At least I haven't got a frog on my head. You look like an overgrown worm.'
She ignored the other girl's words about it being 'just a bludger'. 'Just a bludger' could, in a real game, be the difference between winning or losing — it could be everything. Her gaze followed the younger girl's off to where the bludger was waiting, its cold iron surface just calling out to both of them, begging to be whacked with a bat.
She was not going to be hit again, not if she could help it. Immediately forcing her broom into a speedy turn, she went after the bludger like it was a rogue Quaffle, fully intending to use it for herself.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

'Do not call me "princess".' was the prompt response of the other girl and Oonagh felt her own confidence expand as if she was a fire that had been fed oil. "Or what?" she asked, leaning equally forward when the other tried to get a look at her eyes, not backing off now. Oogie almost laughed, she heard jokes about her helmet before and she embraced them. "I don't think I am a worm, I'm clean still and they tend tae be covered in dirt," she responded smugly and to top it all off, pointedly glanced down at Koko's blouse, that had been smudged with dirt from the bludger, "yae know?".
When the girl took off after the bludger, Oonagh would not let that slide without trying to get out on top of this skirmish, however not having expected the other to strike back in quite such a way, gave the older girl enough time to catch up with the bludger before Oonagh could reach it. Almost immediately the girl zoomed off into a more safer distance that would still allow her to remain in earshot and see what the other girl would be doing with the bludger. "What are ye gonna do wi' it, huh?" she called out, egging her on.
At the very least she was not having a boring practice in which she just had to whack a bludger through the hoops and instead could do some actually interesting stuff like annoying the hell out of another student. It was even more fun because of how easily to anger the other student seemed to be, but her whole demeanor annoyed the young gremlin to no end and she delighted in getting to talk back to her. Who cared about the other person being far older and vaguely familiar. She did not care if this fight came back in an attempt to haunt her, she would haunt it right back if it came to it. But Oogie in this moment was also quite aware of the bludger the other student wielded.
Oogie was quite aware that one should not anger someone who had the upper hand but she also really wasn't one to just sit back and take it and frankly she did not care if she was hit by the other if it meant she had beaten her by making her lose that prim and proper demeanor. If experience was to suit her well, she learned that especially when angry, one is more likely to mess things up so riling the other girl up might just end up being the perfect strategy in this scenario. Especially because the girl more than deserved it at this point. "Don't hurt yourself, ye might get some dirt on ye, wouldn't want that.." she added defiantly, waiting for the girl to take a shot at her with the bludger she was now in possession of.
No matter how this encounter would end up, Oonagh would see it as a win to her own self. After all the other seemed livid and it was Oogie's doing.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Koko did not deign to dignify the little brat's 'Oh what?' with a response. Instead, she side-eyed the child, attempting a flippant shrug that, what with the disgust in her gaze, likely did not seem so flippant after all. Any airiness immediately left her expression when the girl pointed at her blouse. Koko's gaze followed the line of the girl's finger, and her expression soured further, lips curling into a halfhearted sneer.
Covered in dirt.
A huff of air escaped from her nostrils, but she refused to respond to the child. What could she even say? Instead, she poured her rage into her flying, manoeuvring towards the bludger until it was resting in her happy little hands. And now what?
The stupid little worm seemed to agree, although Koko noticed that the unruly-haired girl was at a distance where she would have to try harder if she actually wanted to do anything. Her words ate away at Koko's waning restraint, but she forced herself to pause and simply eye the younger girl. She was young, after all, and sometimes youth did equal doltishness. Plus, she had a duty to prevent harm from coming to students...
Except, what had this girl said? That it was 'just a bludger'? Well, if she could dole it out, then she should be able to take it, too. Koko smirked to herself before weighing the iron ball in her hands. It was not as easy to manage as the Quaffles she was so used to, not something she could handle deftly, but something she could work with nonetheless.
'Don't hurt yourself, ye might get some dirt on ye, wouldn't want that...'
She glanced upwards, once again attempting to force eye contact with the child. The bludger weighed cold and heavy in her arms. 'Soon enough the dirt won't be my problem. It'll be interesting to see how you fancy it — all over, and on your broom once you've hit the ground?' She raised an eyebrow, feigning interest, usually-warm eyes round with fake intrigue.
The ball left her hands halfway through her speech, thrown with a lacklustre sort of abandon. Her pale fingers, now smudged with dirt from the bludger, rested primly on the shaft of her broom as she watched the ball fly through the air, free as a bird let loose from its cage.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

Oonagh kept her gaze on the other girl unabashedly, happy to just watch the other girl's perfect appearance contort in anger. Perhaps Oogie was a little too relaxed for this entire encounter, but did she care or start worrying now? Of course not. She had already started this fight with someone who was clearly older, she might as well see it to an end.
It was honestly amusing when she thought that the dirt could hurt Oogie, as if she would care even half as much as the other girl did about it. Oonagh shook with laughter in response and began to get ready to avoid the bludger that would surely be sent her way. Or would the other prove to be too cowardice to follow through with her threat after all? Though the determination and calculated recklessness in the other girl's gaze made Oogie doubt these threats were empty. Regardless of the outcome, she was ready.
And then she was hit, a full blow and groaned when her stomach was smacked with the metal ball. Luckily the force behind it was dampened due to the lack of a bat but still it hurt and it only made Oogie grit her teeth and glare at the stupid girl. "Ye are absolutely crazy," she yelled back and raised her bat to smack the bludger right back at her, with full force and no remorse. "An we will see wha hits the ground first, princess!" She called back just as her bat connected with the bludger in return.
The other girl truly should not have made it so obvious how much she had disliked the use of the title. But good for Oonagh, as she would make full use of this knowledge if only to further annoy the other girl. Perhaps she would start screeching and throw a tantrum like a toddler soon enough. Surely if they had been close to the ground the girlie would have stomped her foot on the ground.
Oonagh had long stopped caring about appearing civil. And who cares about respect if she was the one who couldn't take a bit of dirt on her clothes and immediately made a scene because of it? If anything Oogie was doing her a service with a much needed wake up call, because sports were dirty and if she wished to remain clean and pristine the Quidditch pitch truly was not the best hang out spot.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·The laughter that echoed from the younger girl's mouth was more of an insult than any utterance of 'princess' could ever be. Koko had tried so hard, and she had come so far, had pushed herself up to and even past her breaking point, all to be laughed at like she was nothing?
She was not used to the rage that boiled in her veins. Usually, she didn't let it get this bad; moments of anger would be fleeting bursts of indignation, if anything. With the way this child kept going, though, what had started off as offence and annoyance had turned into neatly-simmering rage, something that Koko was finding fuelled her just as well as cold ambition.
'Look in a mirror!' Koko shouted at the insolent blonde. 'Can't take what you dole out?' Her usually-kind voice lilted with a hint of a cruel taunt, her otherwise flippant words holding a sharp edge.
She didn't even have time to feel bad when the girl called her 'princess' once again, causing her to roll her eyes and sneer only for a bludger to come careening at her. Ugh. At least Koko saw the bludger this time, the same one she'd tossed at the child, and she abandoned her cute little pose in favour of trying to fly out of the way. It didn't hit her in the chest this time, something she was grateful for, but it did hit her leg and caused her to spin upside down, messing up her hair — something she was not grateful for.
Coming back to being right-side-up, she spat out a long strand of blonde hair that was now more strawberry blonde from her lipstick, and hurriedly, she fixed her ponytail. Thankfully, her hair hadn't caught in her earrings. She glared down at her trousers. One of the legs of them looked slightly greasy, and she hissed out a sharp breath. At least she hadn't been wearing a skirt.
'Have you even got a clue who you're messing with!?' Koko raised an eyebrow at the other child as she raced after the bludger, falling into the familiar routine of quaffle grab and... not quite score, it seemed. She easily snatched the iron ball before the worm could and smirked. 'You really ought to respect your elders.'
As she threw the bludger once again, the strange mix of rage and a need to be the best made her smile as the ball careened towards its target. Why hadn't she tried this before? She could only imagine the fun she would have if she were allowed to do this in an actual Quidditch game. Merlin forbid she got a bat — oh, the power she'd have with such a thing!· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

Beater Than You
Oogie was on fire, she felt the adrenaline of the moment rush through her upon landing that hit. And oh how well she had landed it. Grinning from ear to ear she was only more amused by the other girl being so wonderfully upset and annoyed at the gremlin. "A can take it, but can ye? Ye seem a little upset!" she called back, lazily swinging the beater next to her , flexing her grip on it ever so slightly. "An' what's that mirror supposed to show me, huh? I'm spectacular!" Oogie said brimming with the enough confidence that made clear any insult on her looks would not even crack her surface. Oogie was invincible, she loved herself and would not want to change for the world.
She loved to watch her eat her words when she was sent spiraling by Oogie's bludger. And in a way it was good to see that she could dish out as well as she took that thrown bludger from the other student. "Oh gee, look, now yer clothes match again, yer welcome, lass," the blonde hurricane said with a barely suppressed giggle. It had been a nice display of lack of control on the other girl's part she had to admit, if only she was not so absolutely rude!
'Have you even got a clue who you're messing with!?' A very familiar phrase the younger girl had heard multiple dozens of times in her little life. And like all the other times it only made her puff up even more. "Why? Should I?" she retorted, in mocking innocence, batting her eyes at the older student. Honestly Oonagh could not care less who she was and if she was the headmaster's daughter. She did not care about her grades enough and if someone wished to fight her, she would fight back harder and was not opposed to use teeth and nail to win. "Ye can't be that much older, ye throw tantrums like a child, an regardless respect is earnit" the young lionness shrugged for sure now.
She then focused on the bludger sent her way and despite doing her earnest to dodge it, she was hit and pain blossomed from her stomach. Well now she was definitely bruised. But as long as no rip cracked she would prevail and fight back stronger. Though she was in a great deal of pain by now. Alas, she had a goal in mind and that was to destroy the other girl and make her eat her words. After all the other girl had been antagonizing Oogie and more than deserved it at this point. Oogie immediately chased after the rogue bludger intent to send it right back to the other girl. Perhaps she should aim at the head to knock some sense into her but even Oogie was not as devilish. Or maybe she was, but she was feeling gracious for sure and aimed the bludger at her throwing arm instead to hopefully make any further attacks from the other girl all the weaker.
The most frustrating thing for the other, however, would perhaps not be the situation in itself but the fact that while the other girl was getting angry, Oonagh was actually enjoying herself. This was much better than any practice session Oogie could have come up with on her own that did not involve getting in trouble for destroying some of the stuff around the pitch due to the lack of targets.
